We are delighted to have Andrew Weir our Chairman and Senior Partner and Vice Chairman of KPMG China join us on our latest episode of the Value Prop, where he provides us with some excellent commentary on the big topics concerning his clients and sharing some of his insights on the current status of APAC's economy and where its heading into the latter part of 2023. Q2 felt like a cautious quarter overall in terms of business leaders sentiment I have had the opportunity to speak to, partly due to uncertainty in financial markets. Further weakness in the financial sector, on-going uncertainty regarding monetary policy and continued geopolitical risk, all created a complex environment for investors to navigate. But in every perceived reality there are the exceptions. I.E. Japan's economy came into focus: The market hit the highest level in 33 years with the Nikkei reaching to 33,700 yen in June. That has partly been driven by continuous buying from foreign investors since April. In addition, the gains have come amid ongoing expectations of corporate governance reforms and structural shifts in the Japanese macro economy and the continuing appetite from foreign investors seeking alternatives to China Mainland.

“The recovery in London is quick…you have to be careful because it can smack you in the face – you can miss it because it happens so quickly.”My guest today is property veteran and Chief Executive at London Central Portfolio (LCP), Andrew Weir. Andrew gained his industry-wide reputation as a consummate professional in the property sector with over 30 years' experience, during a period of unprecedented growth and change within the Prime Central London residential market. He was involved from the early stages of setting up Foxtons to managing its growth and creating one of the best-known brands in the industry, taking it from private ownership to private equity and initial public offering. Andrew held the position of Managing Director from 2014, managing 300 people and a £76m+ revenue portfolio, subsequently becoming Chief Sales Officer. Subsequently, he has chosen to expand his experience into the Investment Advisory side of the industry at LCP. We discuss how the last few years has affected the capital's property market – from the effects of Brexit and the pandemic to what the city might look like in years to come. “I think London had got to a bit of an inflection point pre-pandemic, in those Brexit years. It was getting very expensive and becoming unaffordable and, given the Brexit vote, was potentially a little directionless,” Andrew explains. “I think the silver lining of the pandemic might be that London is forced to reinvent itself and that big influx of the younger generation into town could be a really positive thing.”We also talk about: The psychology of the property marketRental demand and the effect on property pricesThe migration of older people out of London and younger people into the cityThe return of foreign buyers Find out more about London Central Portfolio visit: https://www.londoncentralportfolio.com/ or follow @LCP_LTD on Instagram and Twitter. Get out that bottle of single malt whisky in the back of your liquor cabinet, which you’ve been saving for a special occasion. This Thursday is the 259th birthday of Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns. He’s not only the author of some of the most famous Gaelic poems but is also responsible for New Year’s Eve anthem Auld Lang Syne. Historically, the bard is celebrated with bagpipes, recitations of his poems, plates of haggis and glasses of whisky. While he died penniless, in the 1800s the Scots, looking for an identity, began to widely commemorate his birth. On this episode of Life Behind Bars, hosts Noah Rothbaum and David Wondrich, are joined by Robert Burns expert Andrew Weir from the episode’s partner Aberlour Single Malt Whiskey. The three discuss the traditional elements of a Burns dinner and the poet’s enduring influence as well as what Scotch you should pair with haggis. They, of course, indulge in a dram or two of whisky. Slàinte! Life Behind Bars features Half Full’s editor Noah Rothbaum and its Senior Drinks Columnist David Wondrich as they discuss the greatest bartenders of all time and how they changed what the world drinks.
