Off the top of this week's Overdrive Radio episode one thing's clear. Longtime Alaska-based truck driver Lisa Kelly is now a business owner. That's right, in the very long time since Overdrive editor Todd Dills last spoke to her (though not the last time you read about her in Overdrive), she bought a 2019 Peterbilt 389 and leased on with a company to work Alaska's Dalton Highway (the "Haul Road," as its known): https://www.overdriveonline.com/channel-19/article/14874578/haul-road-to-the-himalayas-interviewing-lisa-kelly It's also the 389 she's hoping to earn money enough to either repair or replace as shown in episode 1 of the brand-new season of the History Channel's "Ice Road Truckers" franchise, back after a long hiatus. Owner-operator Kelly's got long history with the show, part of the first seasons that were filmed in Alaska after it got its start along routes partially on frozen lakes in far northern Manitoba in 2007. She couldn't talk publicly about the fleet she's leased to today, per an agreement with the owner when she decided to go back to IRT, yet she was willing to share her own business's name. "I'm Arctic Fox Trucking," she said, and yeah, there's a story there. "Back in the day when we were filming in Alaska, Season Three," she said, the Arctic Fox moniker was bestowed upon her by a young woman among the show's producers, one among many nicknames passed around for cast and crew on the show. "She thought it would be funny," Kelly added, yet "I didn't get it" at first. Finally, though, she did, perhaps when Esquire magazine dubbed her the "sexiest trucker alive" in a headline back in 2010, coupled with photos of Kelly and the Kenworth she drove for well-known Alaska-headquartered Carlile Transportation. For all such attention she got back in those days, it was another quality that stood out perhaps more prominently -- a no-nonsense attitude toward the work of trucking. It all ended with her in a role as something of a de facto ambassador to the world for North American hauling. What's life been like for her since? Catch plenty more about all of that, including a good bit of time away from the road before buying that Peterbilt, in the podcast. The current "Ice Road Truckers" season -- find two episodes available for streaming today via this link: https://www.history.com/shows/ice-road-truckers -- features a cast of two other haulers with Kelly working for Operations Manager Bill Dahn's Muskie Creek Ltd. company, hauling north on six weeks' worth of winter roads to communities otherwise cut off from land routes. The first episodes also features Harris and Sons Transportation owner and operator Shaun Harris and his sons Riley and Zach, as they survey ice that just doesn't seem to be firming up fast as usual, with the work piling up for the season west in Saskatchewan. As always for the reality-TV franchise, there's plenty drama in those first couple episodes, offering an entertaining window into a brand of trucking that's certainly more man v. nature than most. In the podcast, drop into Kelly's story of how she came to truck ownership some years after the end of the "Ice Road Truckers" original run, as the owner-operator takes us back to her time as a Carlile Trasportation company driver, then all that's happened since. Short version, as it were, of a long, long story. "A lot happened, and nothing happened," she laughed, to start it off.
Today we're venturing to one of the most remote and awe-inspiring places on Earth - the Arctic. Where ice meets ocean, wildlife roams freely, and every moment feels extraordinary. There's a saying amongst explorers: “In the far north, every moment feels like a first.” Joining me to inspire your first journey to the Arctic are Cindy Hopkins, a photographer who has spent over 30 years capturing the Arctic's beauty, and Captain Ettiene Garcia, the first mariner to reach the North Pole of Inaccessibility - a point so remote even seasoned explorers dream about it. Together we chat about luxury icebreakers, rare wildlife encounters, unforgettable itineraries, and the stories that make this part of the world so magical. Looking to book a luxury hotel? In this episode, I touch on some recent Travel Photographer of the Year competition news and dive into a really interesting email I received last week from a regular reader and follower of my work, the crux of which is included below:'Hey Josh, You know I love your photography as this isn't my first email :-). You have a unique minimalist style that really sets your work apart; its truly wonderful that you not only find and create such amazing photographic art in this insane world but that you help others also achieve their photo dreams. But something has been bothering me and its these other workshop leaders who seem to be copying everything you do. I have followed you for years and watched you lead unique first of their kind trips for Arctic Fox, Greenland winter, Pallas Cat in Mongolia and more. I have also watched others copy exactly what you do. I am sure you are aware of it, but I get quite annoyed on your behalf when I see these others market themselves as 'the first', or 'class leading' or whatever term they choose to use. I have no idea if it bothers you, but I hope you continue to look forward and not back. Keep up the incredible work. I know there are many others out there who feel the same as me about your work and how you are being copied. I just wanted you to know you had some support out there and that we have your back."Firstly, thank you so much to the author for the wonderful words about my own work. Hugely appreciated. After I received this email, I had to think long and hard about how I felt about this topic. I had a subsequent follow-up email discussion with the author, and we both decided that this topic was worthy of a podcast. It's bound to be somewhat divisive, and perhaps that's what is required at this juncture? I am unsure, and I certainly don't want to come across as arrogant, but what I do know is that I have no rear-vision mirror of consequence for those who choose to follow in this field. I have always looked forward, and I believe it's firmly up to the person choosing and booking a workshop, whether they want to go with someone who chooses to lead in their field - or someone who follows the crumbs. Every person can and should decide who they travel with and why. Just one of the many reasons it's so important to do your homework when booking any trip. As they say, onward, forward and ever upward....Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com

In this episode, I look back at the incredible year 2024, the travel, the countries, experiences, and photographs, and I look forward to travelling and participating in workshops in 2025. 2025 kicks off in just a few days with travel from Australia to Mongolia for back-to-back workshops for Pallas Cat and Snow Leopard in both the far east and west of this amazing country. This will be quickly backed up by two back-to-back Arctic Fox workshops in the far north of Iceland. It's promising to be a huge year, and I am super keen to get underway. If I had to sum up 2024 in one word, it would be ‘gratitude.' I am grateful to have shared my passion for photography with many like-minded individuals. I am likewise grateful for a safe and prosperous year and for the incredible experiences throughout the year. My sincere thanks to all who travelled and participated in one of my trips this year; it was beautiful to have such fantastic shared experiences. It was an incredible year of travel and photography that sometimes left me breathless at the pace and intensity. Don't forget to check out my twelve favourite photographs for the year HERE.Last and certainly not least, I wish all of you a very safe and happy New Year, and may 2025 be one of health, happiness and one of travel, amazing light, and experiences for all of you. Get ready for a jolt of lithium and rare earth metals excitement. Arctic Fox Lithium (CSE: AFX | FSE: O5K) is making waves at its Pontax North property, a potential lithium goldmine in the James Bay Region of Québec, Canada. ⛏️In this exclusive interview, Arctic Fox's President and CEO Harry Chew reveals some exciting developments in their exploration efforts. The property is prime for lithium exploration due to the abundance of S-type pegmatites. Initial findings are also encouraging, with a lithium anomaly discovered exceeding 5.3 times the average concentration in the upper continental crust and co-occurring with niobium and cesium.Beyond its resource potential, the Pontax North Project sits conveniently close to existing infrastructure, offering significant advantages for cost-effective exploration and streamlined logistics. With the electric vehicle boom, the lithium market is hot right now, further strengthening the case for Pontax North's potential.Discover more about why Pontax North is a prime location for lithium exploration— check out: https://www.arcticfoxlithium.comWatch the full YouTube interview here: https://youtu.be/olSow25IBsEAnd follow us to stay updated: https://www.youtube.com/@GlobalOneMedia?sub_confirmation=1

In this podcast from 2020, hosts Chris and Angie discuss the behavior, physiology, and natural history of the Arctic Fox. Chris is broadcasting from New Zealand, continuing their mission of engaging audiences with animal conservation and highlighting local heroes. Angie provides a detailed account of the Arctic Fox's adaptations for surviving extreme temperatures, from their thick fur, ability to hoard food, and their monogamous mating system. The hosts also touch upon how the species mirrors the impacts of ongoing climate change. Particular attention is given to the foxes' acute senses, their comically long gestation period, the prolific number of offspring a female can produce, and their inclination toward more daring behavior leading to greater survival rates. The discussion rounds off by emphasizing the importance of not supporting real fur farms and making eco-friendly choices. The story informs children about the habits of Arctic foxes, how they bury some food deep in the snow during summer, using it as a lifeline when they can't find anything to eat in winter. In fact, many animals exhibit this behavior. It serves as inspiration and reminder for us humans as well, teaching children the value of cherishing food.
Arctic Fox Lithium's (CSE: AFX | FSE: O5K) President and CEO Harry Chew is pleased to share that his Company has completed its successful Phase 1 mineral exploration program on its lithium projects in the James Bay Region of Québec.Despite challenges, over 300 km of ground coverage was completed by the ground crews, with over 200 samples collected and sent to a laboratory for assaying. Harry says that Arctic Fox Lithium looks forward to the release of positive assay results in the coming weeks. As global lithium battery demand grows for electric vehicles, the assay results could strengthen Arctic Fox Lithium's position as an extremely undervalued junior mineral exploration firm and a lithium stock with assets located in the world's most prolific area for lithium discoveries. For more information, visit: https://www.arcticfoxlithium.comWatch the full YouTube interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr0ziOpW9EMAnd follow us to stay updated: https://www.youtube.com/@GlobalOneMedia?sub_confirmation=1

@arcticfoxlithium (CSE: AFX | FSE: O5K) CEO and President Harry Chew gives Global One Media a quick update on the company's upcoming LiDAR survey on its lithium properties in Quebec's James Bay region. Arctic Fox recently engaged XEOS Imaging Inc. to conduct an airborne LiDAR Survey on its Kana Lake, Delta Lake, and Pontax North Lithium properties. LiDAR technology, or Light Detection and Ranging, allows surveyors to get a precise 3D position of the ground surface and objects on the ground. Harry explains that the survey will allow Arctic Fox to narrow down its prospects within the properties and guide the company's ground team.Learn more: https://www.arcticfoxlithium.comWatch the full YouTube interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9ipdu6LrlAAnd follow us to stay updated: https://www.youtube.com/@GlobalOneMedia?sub_confirmation=1

Arctic Fox recently reported the staking of an additional seventeen (17) claims contiguous to the south of the project covering approximately 884 hectares. The Kana Lake project is located in the James Bay region of Quebec, which has been identified as a new lithium prospective zone. THIS IS THE SLEEP SAFE VERSION OF THIS EPISODE. THERE IS NO JARRING INTERRUPTION IN THIS VERSION.Beloved actors, comedy people, and podcast bon vivants Janie Haddad Tompkins and Paul F. Tompkins once took a vacation to the beautiful nation of Iceland and they took a lot of photos. So many photos. And they would like to share them with you in this episode. But wait, you say, isn't this an AUDIO podcast? Why yes. It is. I have just published Episode #63 of my Wild Nature Photography Podcast . In this episode, I discuss packing and equipment for my Arctic Fox expedition in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in north-western Iceland as well as discuss the often maligned Canon RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1 IS L series lens. This is a lens I was not too keen on initially based on its variable f-stop, but recent tests have made me a complete convert.
