THE DOLLYROTS (Kelly Ogden) Interview - Punk Rock band

Jim and Mike TALK

Jim and Mike Interview KELLY OGDEN from the Punk Band THE DOLLYROTS!   Jim has been a fan of the band since 2007 when they released their cover of "brand new key". We had a lot of fun talking to Kelly about the new album (Down the Rabbit Hole), her acting debut on CSI, playing with Bowling for Soup, being signed to blackheart records, traveling with kids, Rabbits, Todd Rundgren on a train ... and more! *********** ABOUT THE DOLLYROTS: The Dollyrots are a Los Angeles, California based pop punk band made up of Kelly Ogden (vocals/bass) and Luis Cabezas (guitar/vocals). Since their formation 18 years ago the husband and wife duo has played over a thousand shows in the US and Europe, shared the stage with many of their idols, and released six studio albums along with several EPs, singles, splits, and a live concert film. Their last 3 albums have peaked in the Top 20 of the Billboard Heatseeker's chart, earning heavy rotation on Sirius/XM radio and followed releases on Lookout Records & Joan Jett's Blackheart Records.  What started as a hobby for New College of Florida students (and childhood friends) Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) became a career when Ogden and Cabezas decided to make their band, The Dollyrots, a full-time gig in 2001. The duo set off on a road trip to find a new home for the group and settled in Los Angeles in 2002; once there, the pair set about honing a pop-punk sound inspired by the Ramones, the Pixies, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and Green Day. Two years later, the band signed with Lookout!/Panic Button Records and released Eat My Heart Out. Following release of their debut the band appeared onscreen on CSI:NY performing two songs off the album. While playing the Vans Warped Tour in 2006 the band members met Joan Jett, who was so taken by the Dollyrots that she offered them a spot on her Blackheart Records label roster after hearing demos of their upcoming LP. The Dollyrots' second album Because I'm Awesome debuted on Blackheart in 2007. The album spawned several singles that made an impact on radio and appeared on film/TV (Easy A, Brave, The Vampire Diaries, Greek, Reaper.) A year later they recorded a version of Jett's song “Bad Reputation” for the soundtrack to the film Endless Bummer, followed up three years later with the slickly produced A Little Messed Up. The first single off this effort, “California Beach Boy”, was featured with a live performance by the band on The Price Is Right. The Dollyrots left Blackheart after that, releasing an EP on their own Arrested Youth label. For their next project, the group turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter, launching a wildly successful campaign that yielded 2012's The Dollyrots. Working again with co-producer John Fields, the independently released set featured Ogden and Cabezas firmly in charge for the first time in their career as they played all the instruments (save for a few parts done by producer Fields) and had final say over all facets of the process. By this point the Dollyrots had gone through a number of different drummers and generally operated as duo with guest musicians in the studio and on their various tours. Their 2014 release, Barefoot and Pregnant, was recorded during Ogden's pregnancy and was subsequently followed by the birth of the couple's first child. The album fared well critically and reached number seven on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. The all-acoustic Love Songs, Werewolves, and Zombies was released digitally in 2013 to the band's PledgeMusic supporters, and received a public release the following year. The Dollyrots continued to successfully fund their projects via crowd-funding and in 2016, they released their first concert album, the ambitious, double-disc/DVD set Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles. That same year also saw the release of the three-song EP Mama's Gonna Knock You Out. The end of the year saw them working on two new projects, another kid and their next album. The couple's baby girl was born in November and the John Fields-produced Whiplash Splash was released in early 2017. This was followed by a 7-inch single Get Radical, released on Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records. The band most recently released their album of B-Sides, Rarities and Covers entitled "DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE"   Be sure to visit their website at : www.thedollyrots.com for a ton of cool, unique items (we mention some in the interview) Jim and Mike Talk Music can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.   You can also view a portion of the video interview with Kelly on YouTube (search Jim and MIke Talk Music to find our channel) ******** COPYRIGHT CLAIM: The songs "Just Like All The Rest", "Mermaid", "I Know How To Party", and "Jackie Chan" used with permission from Kelly Ogden. ******** Thank you for listening!

Based out of New York, Arrested Youth debuted with “My Friends Are Robots” released October, 2017 on Lowly Records. Arrested Youth (Ian Johnson). Johnson grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and began writing lyrics at the age 15. Encouraged by friends and family to turn his lyrics into songs, Johnson released a series of mixtapes and a debut EP that climbed all the way up to iTunes Top 25 pop charts. With success came a strong sense of discouragement with the music he was making and the future of his career, Johnson chose to take a break from music and attend Indiana University, and triple-major in business. In 2016, Johnson graduated and took his shot at the American Dream with a position in Anheuser-Busch's’ Global Management Program.‘My Friends Are Robots’ is an ode to the lack of creativity and self-expression Johnson experienced while working in corporate America. “Working in corporate America was a struggle for me,” Johnson noted. “I found myself waking up every day feeling like a prisoner; I started writing music again as an outlet to express my frustrations.” “Eight months into the job I got offered raise and promotion where I would have to work 60+ hours a week. I decided to quit and move to the small town of Nyack to be closer to my family and pursue my music career."Johnson considers himself part of a “new alternative” class, and notes Kid Cudi and The Red-Hot Chili Peppers as two of his major influences.Listen to Arrested Youth:https://open.spotify.com/artist/4UhEx...Follow Sidewalk Talk:https://twitter.com/sidewalktalkshw (all updates)https://instagram.com/sidewalktalkrhythm See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Joseph P. Genera, national public speaker, teen mentor, life-long civil rights advocate, busy actor and book author, conducts his life as an active influencer even though parapalegically confined to a wheel chair lifestyle for the last 30 years. “Never give up, no matter how horrible life's twists and turns might seem,” advises inspirational and civil rights advocate Joseph P. Genera on Dr. Carol Francis Radio Talk Show December 10.  Genera provides help for everyone suffering from seriously depressing hardships. Author of a new novel, “Arrested Youth,” Genera discusses rising above the accident that immobilized his legs for 30 years and pursuing acting, teen mentoring, raising children and novel writing.  Joseph Genera's recent romance novel, Arrested Youth, autobiographically portrays beauty and tragedy. His novel is a compelling spin of teen troubles and hopes.  Genera is also founder of MuscleCar-a teen mentoring program teaching life skills through auto restoration.   Dr. Carol Francis, Psychologist, drcarolfrancis.com or 310-543-1824 provides services on-line & in person - Torrance, Manhattan Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, El Segundo, Long Beach, South Bay Los Angeles areas.
