Professor Jared Van Ramshorst from Cal Poly's Department of Political Science talks to KCBX's Meher Ali about recent student deportations and visa revocations that have impacted international students across the country, including at Cal Poly. Then, KCBX's Adam Solorzano reports on a state grant received by Morro Bay that will enable it to demolish abandoned boats docked at the Marina. Then, KCBX's Brian Reynolds is in conversation with Robin Greenfield, author and eco-activist, about the latter's immersive experience in non-ownership and living without money. Finally, Kathy Johnston, a journalist who volunteered at the Live Oak Music Festival last year, speaks to a “new generation” of young volunteers, many of whom grew up at Live Oak, about what makes it so special. Steve Ahlgrim edited all the audio and mixed it with music.

Massive infrastructures are planned 20 to 60 miles offshore from the Pristine Beaches and natural environments of the Central Californiia Coast. New industrial facilities plug in via huge cables. Industrial construction: Assembly in SF harbor, tow to Los Angeles, configure and tow to Morro Bay. Industrial infrastructure planned on central coast includes lithium battery assembly at Morro Bay harbor. Does this Systemic development integrate sustainably? As with concentrating solar in the desert, it's never been done before, here, in dark water, and the impacts to species of fish and mammals are unknown. Is there any connection to East Coast whale strandings near wind farms? Is this kind of “renewable” energy development good for the environment and for biodiversity? ###

Jess and BJ sit down with triathlete Sebastian Radilla, who recently captured the overall win at the now-infamous Ironman 70.3 Morro Bay. This year's race will go down in triathlon history as having some of the most chaotic conditions, which resulted in DNF rates close to 400. Most of these occurred during the swim due to a current that we heard was about 5 knots. The conversion is 1.15 miles per hour x 5—almost 6 miles per hour, which is faster than most people can swim. Sebastian, who swam competitively throughout high school and has continued to work on his swim through triathlon, came out of the water first in his age group and then moved through the field to capture the W on the day. Jess and BJ dive in with this champion to get a first-hand recount of his day and insight into what it takes to be a champion.
