Amid an ongoing crisis in recruitment, the military has found a novel way of enticing teens to enlist: thirst traps. “MintCast” co-host Alan MacLeod joins Mnar Adley for an in-house edition of the podcast to describe how the military is using young teens' horniness against them, utilizing an army of attractive women posting sexually suggestive content on social media – in effect, turning a generation of young men from simps into soldiers.Alan MacLeod is senior staff writer and podcast producer for MintPress News. He has worked at the company since 2019. Before joining MintPress, he was an academic and freelance journalist specializing in Latin America and in analyzing media and propaganda. In recent months, he has specialized in analyzing U.S. military propaganda and exploring the national security state's ties to big social media organizations. His latest investigation, “From Simp to Soldier: How the Military is Using E-Girls To Recruit Gen Z Into Service,” can be read exclusively at MintPress News.Chief amongst these new Army e-girls pushing their followers to join up is 21-year-old Hailey Lujan. In recent months, Lujan's social media profile has exploded, with the young star now boasting nearly three-quarters of a million followers on TikTok alone. In between posting highly sexually suggestive content and zany memes, however, are subtle and not-so-subtle commands to her army of loyal followers to join up. “Don't go to college; become a farmer or a soldier instead,” she says in one recent video. The plot thickens, however, when we look into Lujan's background. She is a member of the Army's psychological operations division, whose job it is to carry out online propaganda and influence operations. Despite constantly hinting that she is a “psyop” herself, Lujan strenuously denies that the Army controls her content.MacLeod told Adley that it is almost a moot point whether the Army is actively directing Lujan, stating:I think if you were [psychology expert and father of modern propaganda] Edward Bernays, you might say that it doesn't really matter whether she is or isn't being supported by the military, because, ultimately, what this is doing is getting people who look at this content – and there are millions of people watching this stuff – to associate lustfulness and horniness with joining the military. It's literally making them horny for war.”Support the showMintPress News is a fiercely independent. In 2012, Andre Benz launched Trap Nation on YouTube in order to create a playlist he and his friends could listen to while playing RuneScape. Just 15 years old at the time, the nascent channel exploded almost overnight, with Andre masterfully scaling it into one of the most successful music networks on YouTube, as well as a formidable record label which was approached for acquisition by every major label on the market. Today, Andre is the co-founder of SoundMint, a generative audio-visual platform that believes the current version of music NFTs aren't incentivizing enough for fans...or even the musicians minting them. To date-, the most popular incorporation of music into NFTs is to fractionalize ownership of a song and imbue it with some type of utility, whether that be giving holders a special access to the artist, letting them have input in the creative process, or discounts to merch and shows. SoundMint believes that this format is more akin to a Patreon than a way to provide true value to holders, and they think they have the solution, which you'll learn about in the episode. Working to empower and unify people through his music, Egzod is breaking boundaries between cultures by merging sounds and instruments from around the globe, as well as a focus on spirituality and meaningful moments built into his productions. We both went to Full Sail University and crossed paths a number of times but we never got to officially meet. Egzod and I talk about philosophical questions that he has to ask himself in order to produce such an eclectic genre of EDM. He has released music on NoCopyrightSounds, Lowly Palace, Trap Nation, and many others. Releasing on Synesthesia Records, Inspired by a love of baroque music and making bangers with harpsichord melodies and the original OG: J.S. Bach. Scoring an original track for the video game, Sunset Overdrive. Working with Reason and loving the interface, the look of the mixer and racks and the block arrangement views with block arrangement view with entire section color coding to create a great arranging tool. Choosing a DAW for the user experience because all the audio engine's sound so good now. Breaking down the production techniques of each of the stems ( Bass, Drum Bus, Melodic Bus, Blur FX, SFX Bus, Vox Bus) from the Social Kid hit track: Epica. Using the Blur FX (sweeps up and down and heavy impacts) to transition between sounds and sections. OTT for multiband upward and downward compression on the blur FX bus to glue the entire track together. Vocal processing techniques using panning and pitch shifting on each track and OTT and EQ (to cut out the low end) and delay & reverb on the group to create an "Epic" otherworldly sound. The concept and history of K Theory. Meeting Dylan at Pyramind. Partnerships and collaborations. Falling in love with Dubstep early on. Looking for accessible exposure by bringing Dubstep to a "new level" by electrifying it and modernizing it in 2010. Pivoting to a lower tempo experiment with Glitch hop and mid tempo in 2011. Releasing tracks on Simplify, Mal Label and getting great exposure in the underground dance scene. Experimenting with 808's and Trap with vocalist Malcolm Anthony. Cutting edge EDM with Rap vocals and Trap production launching K Theory to a whole new level. Playing lots of festivals like Red Rocks to Coachella, Electric Forest, Lightning In A Bottle, Snow Globe and Lovelution. Producing remixes for lots of artists posted on Trap Nation. Getting nominated for a Grammy for the GDFR remix. Having a great dynamic in the K Theory partnership with dual productivity. Dylan networking & doing shows while Dusting stayed back to produce tracks. Creative differences and getting disillusioned making very poppy music. Wanting to make heavy dance music. Getting kicked out of K Theory despite producing all the music. Experimenting by slowing down progressive house to mid tempo creating the Social Kid sound. Rez blowing up on the Deadmouse label creating a conduit for Mid Tempo and making Transmissions to be released. Releasing Chrystal Satellite on the Blood Moon EP and blowing up Social Kid. Breaking down Transmissions. Taking all the Pyramind classes twice and bringing 20 years of production chops after graduating from Pyramind in 2007 and becoming a mentor on the Pyramind Network! He discusses the various jobs he's had over the past decade, which includes sync licensing, A&R'ing, influencer marketing, running brand campaigns, and more. "Having worked with labels and artists, I saw how broken the music submission landscape was and wanted to streamline it so it worked for both artists and labels." Ed Brew is the Founder of 3 companies, created with the mission to make the music industry better and easier for artists to succeed. Ed is now the CEO of LabelRadar, a platform that allows artists to directly submit clips of their music directly to their favorite record labels. He is on a mission to make the demo submission process easier for artists, labels and promoters. Ed unintentionally got his first break in music after he put together a successful music compilation to raise money for a charity event. Soon after, he joined a content licensing agency, working with popular Youtube channels like Trap Nation and Proximity (creators of Digital Mirage Digital Festival) to secure the rights to music for their playlists. Once he got his feet wet in licensing, Ed expanded his experience into sync licensing and soon created his first company, Visceral Music, focusing on securing music from electronic artists for film, TV and video games. He worked with brands like EA Games, HP and Bridgestone and working with lots of artists nationwide. With years of creating relationships with artists, he founded his second company, Hello Group, that focuses on talent management. He has worked with Grammy winning songwriters, artists and music influencers; one of which grew from 40,000 subscribers to 2 Million subscribers in just 4 years. Tyler (Fairlane) talks to Dr. Justin Trosclair DC on A Doctor's Perspective Podcast. Fairlane discusses partnerships in the music industry, tips from 180 million streams for doctors to utilize for their local audience, and behind the scenes of the DJ, EDM, Trap music genres. How did these 100,000 people in attendance electronic dance music festivals (EDM) come about and is it a goal to headline one of them? What are the unique challenges of bridging from an online music guy to live venue entertainer? Why do someone people have millions of streams but can't sell out a 500 person venue? REMEMBER: every like and stream is an actual person. How do we leverage those likes and fans? Partnering: Sometimes you have to do free stuff, so the right partner, agency, other doctor or crossfit gym in town takes notice of you. Then you can do joint ventures or joint collaborations and leverage each others audiences. This could be youtube video series on certain conditions or what have you. Much like all aspects of life and business, who you know, meet and connect with (inner circles) can play a major role in building these partnerships and ultimately your big break. Favors Come Around Full Circle What is your Unique Viewpoint, Angle, Unique Selling Point (USP) so that others want to work with you? Another option he has done, is being a part of a bigger group (trap nation) allows for reciprocal favors. You put my song on your channel and I will put one of your core artists on tour with me for a few shows. Both individuals are happy because of the different types of exposure they are looking for. One person wants more youtube clicks and the other wants more live show experience. Sony, Interscope, Capital Records all license their music exclusively to Trap Nation. This is how you can find so many artists to listen to for free without being taken down for copyright infringement. Side note: just because it's licensed doesn't mean the Nation gets to solely monetize, they still have to work a deal out with the record companies. Because of the fact that most trends or artists can fizzle out over time, how and what do you do to plan for longevity and diversification Importance of branding and maybe a small gimmicky piece. Could be a special font you use, icon, visualizer for video intros, a sound or a piece of clothing. Fun question: why do dj's always fiddle with the buttons? Is syndication (sync) on commercials or TV shows as good of a deal as it appears to be? You can hear a 30 second clip of his new single Replay featuring Syence and Kwesi at the end of the episode. Mickey Valen is a classically trained musician and producer who's released on labels like CloudKid and Lowly Palace, and his song Meet Me (feat Noe) currently has nearly 60M plays on Trap Nation's YouTube Channel. We start off with Mickey Valen's background, looking at his late entry into the production world. He studied music in college, but he didn't start producing until after school while he was working a corporate 9-5. We look at how he grew his production skills on the side, and how he eventually made the leap to working full-time on music. He got his start producing for vocalists, and he reveals how he built these connections early on without an artist project. On the production side, we spent a while talking about his songwriting process. Even though Mickey Valen is classically trained, he feels this hurts him at times. He discusses how all producers, no matter their theory knowledge, should approach songwriting. He also walks through his favorite distortion plugins, how he adds creative and background textures, and what his writing process looks like when working with vocalists. We also discuss how to embrace the difficult and annoying parts of being a producer, the pros and cons of moving to Los Angeles, and some of the hidden streams of revenues available to producers. Show Notes: edmprod.com/120 This week, Gill Chang sat down to chat on the EDMProdcast Gill Chang is a Taiwanise producer based in LA who's released music on outlets like Trap Nation, MrSuicideSheep, and Proximity, and he's also known for his best-selling Splice sample packs. Show Notes: edmprod.com/119 This week, Arcando sat down to chat on the EDMProdcast. Arcando is Dutch producer who's released on labels like Sony, Armada, Revealed Recordings, and Trap Nation, and he's released official remixes for artists like Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, and R3HAB. If you listen to the podcast often, you'll enjoy this episode as we talk a lot more about branding, marketing, and social media than we normally do. We start with Arcando's music background, discussing how he built his career from the ground up, including his first release on Armada Trice that, believe it or not, he produced in GarageBand. We talk about how he pivoted from the big room sound he started with into a more open style, a turning point in the growth of his career. If you're looking to launch an artist project soon, this episode is for you. We talk about how to find the right brand for your project, how to choose the best label for your music, and how to leverage unofficial remixes to build a fanbase. Later on, Arcando discusses why he feels quantity is as important as quality, and why focusing on a signature sound could be killing you creativity. He also breaks down how he would build an artist project from scratch in 2020, a goldmine of advice for artists struggling to grow their fanbase. On the production side, we spend a while talking about his mixing workflow. Show Notes: edmprod.com/111 This week, Nurko sat down to chat on the EDM Prodcast. Nurko has released on Armada, Proximity, and Trap Nation, and has high-profile remixes for artists like Morgan Page, Lost Kings, and Dabin. We cover a lot in this interview, starting with his background in music and how he discovered the distinct sound his project has. Instead of trying to force through a certain sound, Nurko let it come naturally to him, working in different genres until a sound came out they he enjoyed making and people respond well to. If you're currently struggling to find your own unique style, Nurko has a ton of valuable advice for you in this interview. On the production side of things, we dive deep into his workflow and production process. We spend a while talking about how he finds the right layers for his drops, what he does to make them more exciting, and how he adds several layers without muddying up the mix. Nurko also offers his best advice for newer producers, discussing what helped him accelerate his growth early on. Based out of New York, Arrested Youth debuted with “My Friends Are Robots” released October, 2017 on Lowly Records. Arrested Youth (Ian Johnson). Johnson grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and began writing lyrics at the age 15. Encouraged by friends and family to turn his lyrics into songs, Johnson released a series of mixtapes and a debut EP that climbed all the way up to iTunes Top 25 pop charts. With success came a strong sense of discouragement with the music he was making and the future of his career, Johnson chose to take a break from music and attend Indiana University, and triple-major in business. In 2016, Johnson graduated and took his shot at the American Dream with a position in Anheuser-Busch's’ Global Management Program.‘My Friends Are Robots’ is an ode to the lack of creativity and self-expression Johnson experienced while working in corporate America. “Working in corporate America was a struggle for me,” Johnson noted. “I found myself waking up every day feeling like a prisoner; I started writing music again as an outlet to express my frustrations.” “Eight months into the job I got offered raise and promotion where I would have to work 60+ hours a week. I decided to quit and move to the small town of Nyack to be closer to my family and pursue my music career."Johnson considers himself part of a “new alternative” class, and notes Kid Cudi and The Red-Hot Chili Peppers as two of his major influences.Listen to Arrested Youth:https://open.spotify.com/artist/4UhEx...Follow Sidewalk Talk:https://twitter.com/sidewalktalkshw (all updates)https://instagram.com/sidewalktalkrhythm See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
