On today's show, guitarist and singer/songwriter Steve Conte reminisces with Joseph over all the popular spots in New York City they've each played gigs and provides his assessment about just how much the NYC music scene has changed. Steve also plays a few licks on his guitar, including a full live version of his song (co-written with Andy Partridge) FOURTH OF JULY. GUEST OVERVIEW: Steve Conte is an American musician; guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer & music educator – both on tour and in studios around the world. His most recent album, Bronx Cheer was released on Little Steven Van Zandt's label, Wicked Cool Records in the fall of 2021 to great critical acclaim. The album spawned 5 singles, 3 of which were featured as “Coolest Songs In The World” on the Underground Garage Radio Program. Steve is currently working on a new release for Wicked Cool Records on which he has written 5 of the album's 10 songs with his songwriting hero – the incomparable Andy Partridge of XTC. Besides a rich solo-career, Conte has recently been instrumental in helping some legendary artists like the New York Dolls get their groove back. After 6 years, 4 albums and a never-ending World Tour with the Dolls, he joined up with former Hanoi Rocks front man Michael Monroe as guitarist, songwriter and backing vocalist to release 5 albums of new original material. On the Horns And Halos album (2013 Spinefarm) Conte wrote the lion's share of the songs and it was nominated for “Album Of The Year” by the Finnish “Grammys” as well as The Nordic Music Prize. In addition to playing in the USA, Steve has toured extensively in UK, Holland, Belgium and France with his Netherlands-based band as well as playing solo shows in Spain, Italy, Finland & Sweden. https://stevecontemusic.com/

Steve Conte Live on Game Changers with Vicki Abelson What a great time, as always, when old pal Steve Conte sits down to chat and sing. That voice! Those songs! The stories! Steve played his latest Coolest Song in the World, Fourth of July, co-written with Andy Partridge of XTC, which was a dream come true for Steve and anyone fortunate enough to hear it. He opened the show with that tune, and then almost at the close, after hearing the back story of his admiration, their meeting, growing friendship, and how it bloomed into co-writing 5 of the songs on Steve's upcoming LP coming soon from Little Steven's Wicked Cool Records, and the particulars of this one in particular, after a bit of coaxing, we got to hear it again, with new meaning and appreciation. It's not oft such an opportunity presents. Worthy. And rockin' fun! Steve, who started out on drums, courtesy of his obsession with The Beatles, and Ringo, had a couple of great tales about that, how he switched to guitar, bouncing brother John to bass, exactly where his gift belonged, Steve's first album, first concert, and how that led to his greatest onstage experience. No spoilers here… Nor to his second, third, well, his top five. Suffice it to say, he covered playing with Chuck Berry, singing with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle, the Everly Brothers, opening for Alice Cooper, getting huge gigs without auditions… joining The New York Dolls, and Michael Monroe, whom after 13 years, he still tours with today, being produced by Todd Rundgren… and the songs that keep pouring out of him, many of which have garnered Coolest Song in the World on Little Steven's Underground Garage. Steve Conte is one of the coolest guys in the world, with one of the greatest rock voices I've ever heard. Steve was a rotating regular at every club I booked and was part of my After Midnight Rock Jam for years. I just can't get enough. Fortunately, I don't have to, and neither do you. When it comes to Vince Clarke, we just can't get enough (was that too obvious?).  So "don't go" anywhere (how 'bout that one?)! Born Vincent John Martin on July 3, 1960 in South Woodford, Essex, England, Vince Clarke is a classically trained musician who got the bug to make electronic music after hearing Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark in the late ‘70s, which led to the formation of a band with school chum Andy Fletcher called No Romance In China.  Shortly after, the duo added Martin Gore to the mix and called themselves Composition of Sound.  With the addition of lead vocalist Dave Gahan, Composition of Sound morphed into Depeche Mode.  Following the first Depeche Mode album Speak & Spell, Clarke teamed up with Alison Moyet for Yazoo, releasing two huge albums and a string of singles that hovered near the top of the charts. After Yaz, Clarke took up various production duties and projects, most notably The Assembly, before landing upon his most formidable partnership with Andy Bell in Erasure - an alliance that has resulted in 19 studio albums to date, including 5 that have hit #1 in the UK, and some of the most beloved singles of the past nearly 40 years.  That's only scratching the surface, of course, but let's just put it this way…he is an electronic music pioneer, a synth-pop legend, someone who helped to expand the definition of what a rock star looks like and sounds like.  Because some might say that we have trouble at times sticking to the topic at hand, we also cover the newly minted adult in Uncle Gregg's house (hint: it's not him), intimacy issues, a genius (question mark?) way to save the planet, jorts, hot knees, and cuddles.  Lots o' cuddles.  And what does Hollywood legend Jamie Kennedy have to do with Vince Clarke?  We're not sure either. One thing's for certain...we will NOT be calling ourselves Only Three Lads US! Awww yeah! Our O3L Spotlight Artist of the Week is UK garage rock trio The Len Price 3, whose 2007 debut album is being reissued on April 7th by Little Steven's Wicked Cool Records.  The record will be available on vinyl for the first time, and also contains four unreleased bonus tracks on CD and digital.  We are thrilled to play one of those unreleased tracks, the incendiary "Break Your Neck" on this week's episode.

Philadelphia Rockers SORAIA lead singer ZouZou joins STRIKE A CHORD to celebrate their new album Bloom (2022) in both digital streaming and collector's vinyl edition. Bloom was released on Friday October 28th, 2022 and featured LIVE on our show. The last album SORAIA produced was in 2019. This new release explodes from the pressure building up from the last 3 years of not screaming on stage! Lead singer ZouZou recalls the hurdles of getting this record to the studio—but it was worth it. This LP is powerful and passionate—"It's the beginning of another great cycle of our career. We're very excited. We've waited a long time for this one in particular.” AND Steven Van Zandt under Wicked Cool Records is IN on this band! What's the success of your magic? The band's latest single “Tight Lipped” is blowing up the charts! “I think you just persevere in anything you do… if you really want it… you don't stop.” “I Seek Fire” OR should we all take the slow road to love? This track makes you think twice about dating apps. Falling in love is all about chemistry. Taking a shared risk in love is not easy. It should happen organically—BUT can we fight our biology? Stephanie got a chance for a quick chat with Brad Hallen the Bassist for Boston punk legends Nervous Eaters about their new single "Wild Eyes," and upcoming album on Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records. Two members are local Cape Cod boys and they have a show coming up at The Music Room in W. Yarmouth on Aug. 11. The Eaters were contemporaries of acts like the Ramones, The Police, Iggy Pop, The Pretenders, and a host of others, and eventually became the house band for the fabled Boston punk rock club The Rat, where they played with a who's who of punk and new wave luminaries, including The Police, The Ramones, The Cars, Patti Smith, Dead Boys, Iggy Pop, The Stranglers, Go-Go's and many others. Fun Fact: The Cars' Ric Ocasek produced the band's original demos, which got the band signed to Elektra Records back in the day. The band, led by founder Steve Cataldo, also features an amazing lineup of players including other Boston rock vets, bassist Brad Hallen (of Ministry, Ric Ocasek and The Joneses), drummer David McLean (of Willie Alexander's Boom Boom Band) and guitarist/vocalist Adam Sherman (of Private Lightning), and between them, they have recorded and/or toured with such artists as Ministry, Iggy Pop, Aimee Mann, Jane Wiedlin, Susan Tedeschi, Jimmie Vaughan, Lenny Kaye and many others. On this episode of Analog Smile, Sherry speaks with Steve Cataldo and Brad Hallen from The Nervous Eaters. The Nervous Eaters are an original rock and roll band from Boston, MA who helped define the Boston underground garage/punk rock scene of the late 70's. The band was formed by Steve Cataldo on the North Shore of Boston in Beverly, MA. Fueled by the raw sounds of Link Wray, early Chicago Blues greats and British guitar legends Beck, Clapton and Page, the Nervous Eaters created a raw edgy song style uniquely their own. The Nervous Eaters were one of the more popular rock & roll bands in the Northeast, eventually headlining at venues throughout the United States and Europe. The band has opened for numerous National Acts that included Iggy Pop, Squeeze, The Go Go's, The Pretenders, The Police, The Ramones and The Split Enzs. Other bands from the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia have covered songs by the Nervous Eaters. Ric Ocasek of The Cars produced a demo for the band that was picked up by Elektra Records and released nationally in 1980. They have also recorded for Penimman Records, No Tomorrow Records and Ace of Hearts Records. The band was signed by Wicked Cool Records in 2021 with new songs premiering in 2022. The current band is Steve Cataldo on lead guitar and lead vocals, Brad Hallen on bass, back-up vocals, Adam Sherman on rhythm guitar, back-up vocals and David McLean on drums. Though the band itself has quite a long and interesting history, its founding members go back even further. Now back on the road in support of a new release — a 24-track collection of B-sides, rarities and covers called Down the Rabbit Hole — on Wicked Cool Records, the story continues for Kelly Ogden and Luis Cabezas. Prior to a recent show at X-Ray Arcade, The Dollyrots welcomed My First Band host Tyler Maas into the band's RV to talk about Down the Rabbit Hole, the ongoing tour, upcoming European shows with Bowling For Soup and Lit, and the possibility their biggest hit is still to come. THE DOLLYROTS (Kelly Ogden) Interview - Punk Rock band

Jim and Mike TALK

Jim and Mike Interview KELLY OGDEN from the Punk Band THE DOLLYROTS!   Jim has been a fan of the band since 2007 when they released their cover of "brand new key". We had a lot of fun talking to Kelly about the new album (Down the Rabbit Hole), her acting debut on CSI, playing with Bowling for Soup, being signed to blackheart records, traveling with kids, Rabbits, Todd Rundgren on a train ... and more! *********** ABOUT THE DOLLYROTS: The Dollyrots are a Los Angeles, California based pop punk band made up of Kelly Ogden (vocals/bass) and Luis Cabezas (guitar/vocals). Since their formation 18 years ago the husband and wife duo has played over a thousand shows in the US and Europe, shared the stage with many of their idols, and released six studio albums along with several EPs, singles, splits, and a live concert film. Their last 3 albums have peaked in the Top 20 of the Billboard Heatseeker's chart, earning heavy rotation on Sirius/XM radio and followed releases on Lookout Records & Joan Jett's Blackheart Records.  What started as a hobby for New College of Florida students (and childhood friends) Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) became a career when Ogden and Cabezas decided to make their band, The Dollyrots, a full-time gig in 2001. The duo set off on a road trip to find a new home for the group and settled in Los Angeles in 2002; once there, the pair set about honing a pop-punk sound inspired by the Ramones, the Pixies, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and Green Day. Two years later, the band signed with Lookout!/Panic Button Records and released Eat My Heart Out. Following release of their debut the band appeared onscreen on CSI:NY performing two songs off the album. While playing the Vans Warped Tour in 2006 the band members met Joan Jett, who was so taken by the Dollyrots that she offered them a spot on her Blackheart Records label roster after hearing demos of their upcoming LP. The Dollyrots' second album Because I'm Awesome debuted on Blackheart in 2007. The album spawned several singles that made an impact on radio and appeared on film/TV (Easy A, Brave, The Vampire Diaries, Greek, Reaper.) A year later they recorded a version of Jett's song “Bad Reputation” for the soundtrack to the film Endless Bummer, followed up three years later with the slickly produced A Little Messed Up. The first single off this effort, “California Beach Boy”, was featured with a live performance by the band on The Price Is Right. The Dollyrots left Blackheart after that, releasing an EP on their own Arrested Youth label. For their next project, the group turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter, launching a wildly successful campaign that yielded 2012's The Dollyrots. Working again with co-producer John Fields, the independently released set featured Ogden and Cabezas firmly in charge for the first time in their career as they played all the instruments (save for a few parts done by producer Fields) and had final say over all facets of the process. By this point the Dollyrots had gone through a number of different drummers and generally operated as duo with guest musicians in the studio and on their various tours. Their 2014 release, Barefoot and Pregnant, was recorded during Ogden's pregnancy and was subsequently followed by the birth of the couple's first child. The album fared well critically and reached number seven on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. The all-acoustic Love Songs, Werewolves, and Zombies was released digitally in 2013 to the band's PledgeMusic supporters, and received a public release the following year. The Dollyrots continued to successfully fund their projects via crowd-funding and in 2016, they released their first concert album, the ambitious, double-disc/DVD set Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles. That same year also saw the release of the three-song EP Mama's Gonna Knock You Out. The end of the year saw them working on two new projects, another kid and their next album. The couple's baby girl was born in November and the John Fields-produced Whiplash Splash was released in early 2017. This was followed by a 7-inch single Get Radical, released on Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records. The band most recently released their album of B-Sides, Rarities and Covers entitled "DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE"   Be sure to visit their website at : www.thedollyrots.com for a ton of cool, unique items (we mention some in the interview) Jim and Mike Talk Music can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.   You can also view a portion of the video interview with Kelly on YouTube (search Jim and MIke Talk Music to find our channel) ******** COPYRIGHT CLAIM: The songs "Just Like All The Rest", "Mermaid", "I Know How To Party", and "Jackie Chan" used with permission from Kelly Ogden. ******** Thank you for listening!

We had the pleasure of interviewing Steve Conte  over Zoom video!  New York City guitarist, singer and songwriter Steve Conte has found the way back to center stage with his first solo album in five years, the attitude-infused Bronx Cheer, out now on Wicked Cool Records.Long known for his memorable guitar work as a member of New York Dolls, as well as former Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe's band (with whom he still performs), Steve found international fame in recent years via his collaborations with Japanese composer and artist Yoko Kanno on the soundtracks to several hit anime series, including Cowboy Bebop. The core of Bronx Cheer consists of Steve on guitar and vocals with bass by his brother John Conte (Southside Johnny & The Jukes, David Bowie, Ian Hunter) and the renowned Charley Drayton (Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, The Replacements) on drums.Conte produced the album with Andrew Hollander, who in addition to work with Indie bands like White Rabbits has also composed and/or produced with Pop stalwarts like The Chainsmokers and Carly Rae Jepsen.Raised in a musical family – Steve's mother Rosemary Conte is a noted NY/NJ jazz singer – Steve started spending time in New York City as a kid, his father bringing him to his first Madison Square Garden concert, by none other than Chuck Berry. Some years later, Conte found himself playing an entire show onstage in Berry's band. His own music first gained notice when his band Company Of Wolves signed to Mercury Records, releasing a self-titled album on the label in 1990. Over the years he's also worked with Peter Wolf, Eric Burdon of The Animals, Willy DeVille, Billy Squier, Willie Nile, Maceo Parker, and even been Paul Simon's tour rehearsal vocal stand-in.Conte first met Wicked Cool founder Stevie Van Zandt when the Dolls played Van Zandt's Underground Garage Festival in 2004.We want to hear from you! Jessie Wagner is a singer, songwriter, and multi-talented artist who has toured the world with Lenny Kravitz, Chic, Kid Rock, Stevie Van Zandt, and Duran Duran. Her debut solo album Shoes Droppin' reveals a very personal collection of songs and is out now on Wicked Cool Records. Jessie is also the lead singer of Army of the Underdog (formerly known as Envy), which is a five-piece rock and soul band from New York City. Led by Jessie's aggressive and soulful vocals, AOU blasts a sexy, original rock and roll sound. With hard hitting beats, writhing guitar riffs, and savagely intoxicating bass lines, AOU created a hybrid of hard rock and sultry soul that is ass kicking, exciting, and a breath of fresh air in today's humdrum music industry. AOU recordings include the Envy EP, Handle It and Army of the Underdog (released under the name Jessie Wagner and Envy). AOU is currently working on a new EP and it should be ready for listeners in 2022. If you're a fan of the power-pop genre, you're almost certainly also a fan of Kurt Baker. Over the past dozen years, the singer and songwriter has released a bunch of great records under his own name (and using the "Kurt Baker Combo" and "Kurt Baker Band" project names as well). He has also toured regularly, earned a spot on Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records label and relocated from Portland, Maine, to Madrid, Spain. As impressive as his solo career has been, it's only the tip of the iceberg. Recently, Baker spoke to My First Band host Tyler Maas about living in Spain for the past eight years, the process of making his latest album (After Party — out now!) and his performance plans after an isolated year-plus. Of course, the conversation also turned to Baker's musical past, including his early bands in Maine, playing and promoting shows at a formative local all-ages venue called The Well, and really going for it in his teens and early 20s with his band The Leftovers. Along the way, the power-popper talked about his first European tour, playing with The Queers and Tommy Stinson, and the time his band blew three amps just minutes before opening for The Offspring. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. You can also listen to rebroadcasts of previous My First Band episodes on WMSE every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. CST. Summer: it's a time to get dirty and a time to shine. It's only natural, then, that summertime 2021 will see the release of a collection of new songs capturing both sides of that spectrum: 'Still Dirty,' the rollicking Wicked Cool Records debut release from Portland, Maine's Kris Rodgers & The Dirty Gems, which drops Friday, July 23. Known as “rock n' roll's secret weapon”, band leader and front man Kris 'Fingers' Rodgers has been a recording & touring sideman in top touring garage rock and power pop acts like The Connection, Scott Sorry, The New Trocaderos, Bullet Proof Lovers, and Kurt Baker Band for years. The fast-paced, horn-accented “I Can Still Feel It” is the band's new single, with the feel of a rave-up a la '70s-era J. Geils Band. “It's got that classic sound but it's new and fresh,” Kris remarks. He adds, "I Can Still Feel It is about that initial excitement you experience discovering what you're passionate about. The “wow” moment." Philadelphia rock quartet Soraia is giving fans new music for the start of the New Year. The band will release a 7" single titled "Tight-Lipped" (with a b-side cover of Aerosmith's "Angel," ft. a guest appearance by their Wicked Cool Records labelmate Jessie Wagner) on January 8th. Stream/buy "Tight-Lipped" here: https://orcd.co/tightlipped. Of the new track, frontwoman ZouZou Mansour says, ""Tight-Lipped" is about a woman who politely refuses to challenge the status quo and direction of her life. It's a final recognition of the part she has played in her own oppressive censoring - a soulful rebuke of her former beliefs on how to live. But by the end of the song, it becomes a triumphant declaration of who she now is: "'Meet Ophelia--no more promises. I refuse to be so tight-lipped.'" The single follows on the heels of Soraia's most recent studio LP 'Dig Your Roots' which is streaming here: https://orcd.co/digyourroots. That album was produced and engineered by Geoff Sanoff (Bruce Springsteen, Fountains Of Wayne, Dashboard Confessional) and spawned a number of singles, including "Evergreen", "Wild Woman" and "Superman is Gone." To celebrate the release of "Tight-Lipped", Soraia will play a special event to be live-streamed from The Bowery Electric on January 15th at 8pm ET. Tickets are available at https://bit.ly/35gjysC and are also good for “on-demand” viewing through 1/22. Guitarist/songwriter/singer Brian Ray continues his string of provocative singles with “Got A New Thing,” out November 13 from Wicked Cool Records. The track was written, produced and arranged by Ray who sings, plays guitars, and keyboards on it. He’s joined by Weezer’s Scott Shriner on bass and background vocals along with Abe Laboriel Jr., Brian’s fellow Paul McCartney bandmate, on drums and additional vocals. “Got A New Thing” is backed with Brian’s appropriately raucous take on Procol Harum’s “Whiskey Train” on which Textones doyenne Carla Olson is featured. Brian plays guitars, bass and keyboards. The single will be released on orange vinyl and available at brianray.com, wickedcoolrecords.bandcamp.com as well as digital outlets this Friday. Brian Ray’s career has included stints as guitarist and musical director for Etta James as well as studio work with a wide range of notable artists including Steve Goodman, Rita Coolidge, Kelly Clarkson, Juanes, Willy Deville, Shakira and France’s legendary Johnny Hallyday. These were precursors to his ongoing tenure with Paul McCartney. As a member of “Macca’s” touring band, Brian is featured on guitar, backing vocals and bass, the latter whenever Paul picks up a guitar or sits down at the piano. Both Brian’s solo career and his work with The Bayonets, the band he fronted with Oliver Leiber, have been championed by Steven Van Zandt with heavy airplay on his Little Steven’s Underground Garage channel on Sirius XM, dating back almost a full decade. Six of his last single releases have been certified as LSUG’s “The Coolest Song in the World” including such recent releases as “Pirate Radio,” “I Ain’t Superstitious” and “One Heartbeat” featuring Smokey Robinson who originally recorded the song, penned by Ray, in the late ‘80s. Speaking of guests, The Bayonets’ “Vagabond Soul” featured Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler on vocals and harmonica. “Got A New Thing,” explains Brian, “was inspired by garage pop’s ease in expressing exultation and the idea of righteous justice being meted out. It’s the “you’re gonna get yours” kind of expression found in so many great garage tunes.” He went on to suggest the theme of the song is “about justice for the victims of sexual assault. It imagines the corrupt abuser being taken away in handcuffs and the victims going on to a new life, a ‘New Thing’, if you will. “Got A New Thing” premieres worldwide on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on Friday, November 13 with a full radio service to multiple formats thereafter.

Interview with Jessie Wagner

Bringin' it Backwards

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jessie Wagner over Zoom video! It’s been a long journey to center stage for Jessie Wagner. Having gained her greatest exposure to date by singing songs everyone knows the words to, on some of the world’s biggest stages, it’s only now, through sharing her own triumphs and pain, that the spotlight is shining directly on her at last. After logging thousands of miles as an in-demand vocalist on tour with Lenny Kravitz, Chic, Duran Duran, Kid Rock and most recently Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul, Jessie Wagner reveals a very personal collection of songs with Shoes Droppin’, her debut solo album for Wicked Cool Records.Displaying an impressive range encompassing bluesy R&B, neo-soul, acoustic balladry and rock a la John Mayer’s more confessional side, Shoes maintains a unified sound rooted in ’60s and ’70s style production. The songs trace times of darkness and redemption for the Norfolk, Virginia native, now based in New York City, who also fronts the rock/soul band Army of the Underdog.“’Shoes Droppin’’ was the song I wrote when I was at my lowest point,” Jessie says of the stomping, bluesy title track which opens the album. “My ex went into cardiac arrest and almost died. He spent the next couple of years fighting to regain a semblance of his former existence, and because of that, my life was arrested in a strange way. I thought I’d have to give up my music career. I fought my way back from that, and ‘Shoes Droppin’’ is a testament to losing and regaining your faith in what is possible.”Recorded during downtime from the Little Steven world tour, the album was produced by drummer Dave Diamond (Bob Weir, Derek Trucks) with engineer Chris Laybourne. Seasoned soul guitarist Sherrod Barnes has the most co-writes with six; he’s previously written for or with Beyoncé, Angie Stone and Ashanti as well as recording with Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack and Queen Latifah. The album’s striking horn arrangements are by longtime Little Steven cohort Eddie Manion, who’s also worked with Bob Dylan, Diana Ross and Darlene Love.Wagner never expected singing in Stevie Van Zandt’s band would lead to being signed to his label for her own work. “When Stevie said he thought I was a real artist, I could’ve cried.” Jessie recalls. “After fighting to be heard in this industry for so long, it means so much for someone of his stature to say your voice is unique and needs to be heard.” Stevie says, “Her music is eclectic and unique and impossible to categorize, which makes her the perfect Wicked Cool artist.”“I started the year with a record deal, and then shortly after, the world fell apart in so many ways,” Jessie comments on the COVID-19 pandemic. “I’m happy that I have this album to look forward to. It gives me some purpose and determination.“This album really addresses every aspect of me as an artist. I don’t settle well in any box. I’ve hinted at that with my rock band Army of the Underdog. But this really shows my versatility – or my schizophrenia! I like that It’s honest and playful, with touches of hopelessness, but also the idea of redemption and faith.”After singing for so many legends, it was a special treat to arrange and sing both leads and harmonies for herself. “That’s something I love doing. After talking to Dave [Diamond] about how I thought ‘What You Get’ sounded like a Paul Simon song, I asked a friend how to say ‘This is me’ in Swahili and it sounded so beautiful. Then I had to figure out how to sing it and make it fit with the song.”The sassy soul of “Over And Over” already conquered satellite radio, to be followed in August by the girl group vibes of “End Of Time.” “Jorgen Kjaer sent me a piano idea and it made me want to write an Amy Winehouse type song.”Future single “My Darlin’, My Dear” has a slow burn kind of feel. “I had Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in mind. It was this person begging to be recognized for her worth, and it needed to be bluesy and gritty.” Another projected single, “Passin’ Me By,” is propelled by those crucial Manion-arranged horns.Pandemic conditions upended Jessie’s plans to tour on her own name this year. “That will be the dream realized,” Jessie says of the day when that will happen. In the meantime she’s doing live streaming shows and putting together several music videos and lyric videos within the constraints of social distancing. The latest Wicked Cool release distributed by The Orchard, Shoes Droppin’ is the next gem from the label whose 2020 slate also includes new music from Jesse Malin, WYLDLIFE, Ryan Hamilton & The Harlequin Ghosts, The Empty Hearts and Kurt Baker. We want to hear from you! Acabamos con James Maddock, un incondicional de Willie Nile y Karen Jonas, su quinto álbum The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams, un sueño de canciones americanas.⦁ Bruce Springsteen, Letter To You ⦁ Josh Ritter, Time Is Wasting ⦁ Lloyd Jones, Where's My Phone? ⦁ Grant Lee Phillips, Gather Up⦁ Vanessa Collier, Weep and Moan ⦁ Molly Tuttle, Standing On The Moon ⦁ Molly Tuttle (Feat. Join Sherry for Just Push Play - A Music Podcast with Larry Kennedy from The Jellybricks joining the show as her guest! The even-keeled ascent of The Jellybricks is living proof that a band need not be an overnight sensation to feel lucky. A Rock group in the classic two-guitars-bass-drums tradition, this Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based crew persevered for two decades before claiming the spotlight with Some Kind Of Lucky, their first album for Wicked Cool Records, out October 4.  The Jellybricks began as a vehicle for Larry’s original songs in the mid-’90s but has steadily evolved over seven releases into a four-headed collaboration with all four writing and singing lead.  In the wake of heavy airplay on SiriusXM and syndicated terrestrial radio, the band signed to Wicked Cool for a double-A-sided single at the dawn of 2019: the Big Star-influenced road song “Brooklyn” – also notable for being the first track co-written by all four Jellybricks – and swirling call-and-response rocker “D O A.” Both grabbed Coolest Song bragging rights, setting the stage for the new album. Recorded in Youngstown, Ohio; Baltimore; Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Van Zandt’s own Renegade Studios, NYC, these recordings from disparate locations play cohesively courtesy of the mix by engineer Geoff Sanoff, whose credits include notable work with Bruce Springsteen and Fountains Of Wayne. PS - Larry wanted to mention the song he wished that he had written from the last five years is "Beautiful Music" by The Northern PIkes!

Palmyra Delran is inciting espionage. “Come Spy With Me is an invitation to come for the ride and listen to the record with me,” says the trash-pop maven of her new album on Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records, out November 9. “Plus, spying is all the rage these days. I know there’s a movie from 1967 with the same title as my album, but I haven’t seen it.” Spy builds on Palmyra’s growing notoriety within the Garage Rock universe, which has seen many of her tracks named “Coolest Song In The World” on Little Steven’s Underground Garage. One of them, “Baby Should Have Known Better,” was even SiriusXM listeners’ choice for “Coolest Song Of The Year” in 2008. Another fan favorite, “You’re My Brian Jones,” was a highlight of her last full-length effort, 2013’s You Are What You Absorb. The Doppel Gang consists of bassist Michael Lynch (“a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who’s been in tons of cool bands and released a few records of his own”), drummer Mark Brotter (“he’s played with Hem, Evie Sands, Alan Merrill who wrote “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” and Bowery Boys”) and Richard Dev Greene (“true rock ’n’ roll to the core, he was in Pale Face Of Youth who re- formed as Pale Moon Gang, and he’s doing gigs with the re-formed Plimsouls”).

Josh and Maureen have on the fabulous ZouZou Mansour, lead singer of the hot rock band Soraia - "ZouZou has been referred to as "a true mix of Iggy Pop and Joan Jett" onstage." Not only is the band represented by Wicked Cool Records, but they've been featured in Rolling Stone, and their new single, "Monster" is tearing up Youtube. ZouZou Mansour and Travis Smith are the core of this group -- their songwriting rooted in early garage rock with strong dynamics and melody -- and their live show  frenetic and intensely interactive.  ZouZou has been referred to as "a true mix of Iggy Pop and Joan Jett" onstage. They have toured constantly throughout the US, playing the dingiest corner dive bar, to the most massive amphitheaters in their career, even opening Milwaukee's Summerfest in 2009. Venue highlights include playing their hometown stadium, Wells Fargo Center, as supporting act, as well as opening  for national bands at The Rave in Milwaukee as far back as 2006. Their ever-blossoming writing career includes four studio albums, one live cd, one EP, and many singles.  Their last record garnered their first #1 song with their attitude-laden, punk cover of The Kinks' "(I'm Not) Like Everybody Else" on rock radio in South America (Radio Doble Nueve in Peru) after spending 10 weeks in the Top 40 there. In addition,  Little Steven Van Zandt's SiriusXM Radio Station "The Underground Garage" Channel 21 chose their song "Electrocutioner" as the #1 "Coolest Song of the year 2016". Previous records also reached the Top Ten Songs of the Year, with single "Love Like Voodoo" as the #2 "Coolest Song of 2013", and their cover of The Kinks' "(I'm Not) Like Everybody Else" was the #5 "Coolest Song of 2014" (according to their listeners' poll). In addition, both rock n' roll legends and deejays Bill Kelly, Genya Ravan, Kid Leo, and Michael Des Barres chose Soraia's single "(I'm Not) Like Everybody Else" among their favorite "Top Ten Coolest Songs of 2014". Above all this, Soraia's ferociously energetic, intoxicating live shows are their trademark calling card, showcasing a will to defy and survive. True rebels of rock 'n' roll, Soraia has overcome hundreds of obstacles other less fortuitous bands would never survive thanks to their unwavering love of music and all that it encompasses. Whether in a hot, sweaty rock club or huge amphitheatre, Soraia's charisma and spirit transcend the concert stage and reach all those who witness the band live. Rarely will you see a band with as much magic and soul as Soraia, and never will you hear a journey so full of hope and heart as this band's story. Their every breath is a testament that miracles really do exist, and that the underdog really can win the whole world.
