Fervent fans of The Doughboys know their whole history, detailed on the Rock N' Raw DVD – they first got together in ‘64 and played in various permutations through the rest of the 60's. They gigged incessantly, won a battle-of-the-bands on Zacherle's Disc-o-Teen TV show, were the house band at the legendary Café Wha? in New York City in the summer of '68. They opened for every act imaginable including The Beach Boys, and released two 45's, Rhoda Mendelbaum and Everybody Knows My Name, on Bell Records (which later became Arista Records) before splitting up for what they thought was for good. The band members went their separate and interesting ways – Myke Scavone fronted hard rock ensemble Ram Jam who scored an international hit with Black Betty; Richie Heyman played drums for the likes of Link Wray, Brian Wilson and Jonathan Richman while simultaneously pursuing an acclaimed career as a singer/songwriter (under his full moniker Richard X. Heyman); Mike Caruso landed session work with such notable pop producers as Bo Gentry and Kenny Laguna, and even jammed with Jimi Hendrix!Mike CarusoSince the band re-formed in 2000 at a surprise birthday party for drummer Richie Heyman's birthday, The Doughboys have released six albums (Is It Now?, Act Your Rage, Shakin' Our Souls, Hot Beat Stew, Front Street Rebels and Running For Covers), numerous singles, and a documentary film with accompanying live disc (Rock N' Raw). They've played up and down the eastern half of the country, often sharing bills with such luminaries as The Pretenders, The Yardbirds, The Electric Prunes, Roberta Flack, Robin Trower and many others. They performed at the historic “Who Shot Rock n' Roll?” exhibition at the Allentown Museum, at an all-star tribute to George Harrison at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, at the “Long May You Run” benefit at The Hamilton Live in Washington, DC, and have appeared at prestigious venues like B.B. King's, the Sellersville Theater, the Stone Pony and the Starland Ballroom. Lead singer Myke Scavone is now also a member of The Yardbirds, touring the world as they continue to spread the gospel of the golden era of Rock n' Roll.In 2005, Gar Francis (of Stones tribute band Sticky Fingers fame, as well as work with Billy Idol and Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and The Raiders) entered the picture after the untimely passing of founding member and brilliant guitarist Willy Kirchofer. When Gar joined the band, The Doughboys branched out into recording their own original material, and it wasn't long before they entered the recording studio and laid down tracks for Is It Now?, the first album of their long and storied career. The Doughboys' songs have become huge favorites on radio around the world, especially with Little Steven Van Zandt, who named Shakin' Our Souls his favorite album of 2012, and who has bestowed the much sought after rank of “Coolest Song In The World” on eight of The Doughboys' songs on his Underground Garage channel on Sirius/XM radio. Additionally, Doughboys music is used extensively in film, television and advertising, including in such TV shows as “The Big Bang Theory”, “Californication,” “Breaking Amish” and “The Good Guys” and in the film “Coming Through The Rye.”

Stephanie got a chance for a quick chat with Brad Hallen the Bassist for Boston punk legends Nervous Eaters about their new single "Wild Eyes," and upcoming album on Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records. Two members are local Cape Cod boys and they have a show coming up at The Music Room in W. Yarmouth on Aug. 11. The Eaters were contemporaries of acts like the Ramones, The Police, Iggy Pop, The Pretenders, and a host of others, and eventually became the house band for the fabled Boston punk rock club The Rat, where they played with a who's who of punk and new wave luminaries, including The Police, The Ramones, The Cars, Patti Smith, Dead Boys, Iggy Pop, The Stranglers, Go-Go's and many others. Fun Fact: The Cars' Ric Ocasek produced the band's original demos, which got the band signed to Elektra Records back in the day. The band, led by founder Steve Cataldo, also features an amazing lineup of players including other Boston rock vets, bassist Brad Hallen (of Ministry, Ric Ocasek and The Joneses), drummer David McLean (of Willie Alexander's Boom Boom Band) and guitarist/vocalist Adam Sherman (of Private Lightning), and between them, they have recorded and/or toured with such artists as Ministry, Iggy Pop, Aimee Mann, Jane Wiedlin, Susan Tedeschi, Jimmie Vaughan, Lenny Kaye and many others. THE DOLLYROTS (Kelly Ogden) Interview - Punk Rock band

Jim and Mike TALK

Jim and Mike Interview KELLY OGDEN from the Punk Band THE DOLLYROTS!   Jim has been a fan of the band since 2007 when they released their cover of "brand new key". We had a lot of fun talking to Kelly about the new album (Down the Rabbit Hole), her acting debut on CSI, playing with Bowling for Soup, being signed to blackheart records, traveling with kids, Rabbits, Todd Rundgren on a train ... and more! *********** ABOUT THE DOLLYROTS: The Dollyrots are a Los Angeles, California based pop punk band made up of Kelly Ogden (vocals/bass) and Luis Cabezas (guitar/vocals). Since their formation 18 years ago the husband and wife duo has played over a thousand shows in the US and Europe, shared the stage with many of their idols, and released six studio albums along with several EPs, singles, splits, and a live concert film. Their last 3 albums have peaked in the Top 20 of the Billboard Heatseeker's chart, earning heavy rotation on Sirius/XM radio and followed releases on Lookout Records & Joan Jett's Blackheart Records.  What started as a hobby for New College of Florida students (and childhood friends) Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) became a career when Ogden and Cabezas decided to make their band, The Dollyrots, a full-time gig in 2001. The duo set off on a road trip to find a new home for the group and settled in Los Angeles in 2002; once there, the pair set about honing a pop-punk sound inspired by the Ramones, the Pixies, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and Green Day. Two years later, the band signed with Lookout!/Panic Button Records and released Eat My Heart Out. Following release of their debut the band appeared onscreen on CSI:NY performing two songs off the album. While playing the Vans Warped Tour in 2006 the band members met Joan Jett, who was so taken by the Dollyrots that she offered them a spot on her Blackheart Records label roster after hearing demos of their upcoming LP. The Dollyrots' second album Because I'm Awesome debuted on Blackheart in 2007. The album spawned several singles that made an impact on radio and appeared on film/TV (Easy A, Brave, The Vampire Diaries, Greek, Reaper.) A year later they recorded a version of Jett's song “Bad Reputation” for the soundtrack to the film Endless Bummer, followed up three years later with the slickly produced A Little Messed Up. The first single off this effort, “California Beach Boy”, was featured with a live performance by the band on The Price Is Right. The Dollyrots left Blackheart after that, releasing an EP on their own Arrested Youth label. For their next project, the group turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter, launching a wildly successful campaign that yielded 2012's The Dollyrots. Working again with co-producer John Fields, the independently released set featured Ogden and Cabezas firmly in charge for the first time in their career as they played all the instruments (save for a few parts done by producer Fields) and had final say over all facets of the process. By this point the Dollyrots had gone through a number of different drummers and generally operated as duo with guest musicians in the studio and on their various tours. Their 2014 release, Barefoot and Pregnant, was recorded during Ogden's pregnancy and was subsequently followed by the birth of the couple's first child. Welcome to “Punky Reggae Party” a special audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the historical origins and impact of reggae on popular music that will explore the phenomenon of punk and post-punk bands adopting the sounds of reggae. On February 27, 1986, the Cosby Show, then the most popular TV show in America aired an episode that featured the music of Black Uhuru. Let that sink in for a moment. How often did you hear roots reggae on American network television in the 80s? Though just a few minutes and part of a comedic bit it really is an extraordinary moment when a Black Uhuru song was broadcast into the American heartland. More than any other reggae artists, Black Uhuru have successfully and consistently transcended stylistic barriers tapping rock and other musical influences, yet they have done so without compromising either the genre or the philosophy that propels it. And after the death of Bob Marley in 1981, the mantle of bringing the sound of reggae to America and the rest of the world was taken up by Black Uhuru. They covered a song by Little Steven Van Zandt, licensed their music for use on TV and toured with the The Rolling Stones and The Police. They also played a memorable show at Soledad Prison. Ska Boom is hosted/co-produced by Marc Wasserman & co-produced/engineered by Rob George. And this album is very much a collaboration with producer/songwriter/guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt (aka, Silvio on HBO's "The Sopranos"). If you like horns, Motown, and Stax, you'll love Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

Scott promises he takes very good care of his dogs!  The Ramones: Scott meant to talk about "Chuck Berry, surf rock, and girl groups" to define their sound but he merged some of the words together Van Morrison: 1968-1979 - Astral Weeks through Into The Music (the latter part broke up a bit) When speaking about the E Street Band we certainly should've mentioned "Little Steven" Van Zandt as well (and probably Nils Lofgren and Patti Scialfa too) Christine McVie married the bass player not the drummer (doh!) Actually, though 1995's Outside was a good album, David Bowie's comeback really began in earnest in the '00s with albums like Heathen and Reality, and then later The Next Day and especially Blackstar. We also failed to mention a pretty darn good guitarist who played on Bowie's Let's Dance album: Stevie Ray Vaughan! Scott laments the fact that he forgot to mention that The Clash's Topper Headon emailed him to complain that he wasn't on the 100 greatest drummers list that he had on his old (now defunct) website.

OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY "Gotta Get Back Inside Your Mind" Meet You In The Shadows Burger Records (2019) https://burgerrecords.11spot.com/outrageous-cherry-meet-me-in-the-shadows.html Outrageous Cherry combined psychedelia, folk rock, art rock, and bubblegum music across more than 12 albums and nearly three decades. They attracted an international cult following and were a longstanding fixture in the Detroit rock and roll scene since their first gigs in 1991. MEET YOU IN THE SHADOWS is their final studio album, completed before the passing of founding lead guitarist Larry Ray. Some of the songs, like "Lies Feel Good" and "Creeps Retreat", address contemporary social and political turmoil, while "The Beginning of the End of the Night" and "Complicate Me" are more of a psychological hall of mirrors. The title track, "Meet You in the Shadows" is all of these things at once. The musicians are the same lineup that recorded the previous Outrageous Cherry album on Burger Records, THE DIGITAL AGE: Matthew Smith- vocals, guitar, keyboards Larry Ray - lead guitar Colleen Burke - bass Maria Nuccilli -drums ...with backing vocals by everyone. Outrageous Cherry began in 1991, playing gigs in coffee houses, bars, and art galleries. Like the Gories, who were on the Detroit scene a few years before them, O.C. used a minimal drum kit with no cymbals, which allowed the full range of their guitar tonalities to be heard without having to turn their amps up to 10. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1994 on Bar/None Records, followed by a sequence of albums on different labels, including a couple of years signed to Alan McGee's Poptones label. O.C. toured the USA and Europe, and were sometimes an opening act for bands like Wilco, Yo La Tengo, Stereolab, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Guided by Voices and others. The New Pornographers were also fans of the group and recorded an e.p. of Outrageous Cherry covers. Despite their prolific songwriting tendencies, Outrageous Cherry's best known song is probably their cover of Junior Kimbrough's somewhat psychedelic blues number "Lord Have Mercy on Me", which appeared on a 2005 tribute LP with the reformed Stooges, and later was used in the opening credits of the film "Black Snake Moan". Outrageous Cherry's music also reached a wider audience thanks to Little Steven Van Zandt, who regularly plays O.C. on his radio show, and also curated a CD compilation of his favorite O.C. tracks. The band was always working on new songs and new recordings, even while Matthew Smith was busy producing artists like the Go, Andre Williams, Nathaniel Mayer, and touring with Rodriguez, Crime and the City Solution, and the Volebeats. The band had a few personnel changes through the years in the rhythm section, but Matthew and Larry had a solid musical chemistry. The blend of Larry's lead guitar and Matthew's lead vocals was always inspiring them to keep cranking out records. MEET YOU IN THE SHADOWS finds Larry's guitar solos blasting over and under the vocal melodies and harmonies in as good an example of this chemistry as any of their previous records. On "The Last Nice Guy in Detroit", you can hear Outrageous Cherry in their kitchen rehearsal space and studio, playing a song they've just learned how to play, and then mixing it immediately with no overdubs at all, because it sounded fine right there in the room. In this track you can hear the band doing exactly what they would've been doing at their first rehearsal 25 years earlier. They didn't take these musical happenings for granted, knowing well that it's not easy to keep a musical entity thriving and relevant for so many years. They would look at how long Slade stayed together, or the fact that Kraftwerk were soon coming to town, and this was all the encouragement they needed to keep jamming and writing and recording.

Formed in Washington, DC by high school friends Bobby Atoms and Brian & Mick Maverick in high school, The Nuclears quickly made fans out of such rock royalty as Mike Watt (Minutemen, The Stooges) & Daryl Jennifer (Bad Brains) before before being awarded the title of “Best Band in D.C.” by Little Steven Van Zandt's (Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band) Underground Garage. After moving to the heart of New York City's underground rock scene in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the addition of shirtless, wild-man vocalist Nick Vivid (Drag Citizen) and powerhouse drummer Geoff Hug (NYCSmoke), the Nuclears five-piece line-up has solidified into one of the best live acts in New York City whose raw energy is harnessed and streamlined on the debut LP by this young and hungry act.
