You Me At Six are set to kick off their Australian tour this week, starting in Brisbane on January 24. The run of shows - that extends through Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth - will feature very special guests Holding Absence, the band British rock bible Kerrang! labelled as British rock's “new leading light”.YOU ME AT SIX are one of the most beloved British rock bands of all time, having delivered multiple number 1 albums, dominating charts, racking up hundreds of millions of streams, selling out arenas and headlining festivals; and along the way crafting some of the catchiest pop-rock anthems of their generation. Bite My Tongue, Take on the World, Underdog, Beautiful Way, Room to Breathe… the list of classics seems almost endless. The band's revival of infectious and spirited pop-rock earned them a mass of fans worldwide, seeing them sell out show after show across the globe.Choosing to bring such a storied 20-year career to an end cannot be easy. Doing so with your original line-up, on your own terms, and with the band members remaining best of friends is unheard of. But as the saying goes, go out at the top of your game and You Me At Six are certainly doing that.Having shocked the rock world recently by announcing their imminent demise, the band are setting out on their greatest tour, delivering a career-spanning 2-hour set and determined to leave the fans with a truly special performance to remember them by. “We've got a plan to play songs from every single album and make it a real victory lap. And everyone feels like that. We've looked at the setlists and gone, ‘Cool – those five can stay, the rest is going to be stuff we haven't done for years. We want to have 50 songs ready to go so that each night we can constantly mix it up and make it special.”“When we started YMAS we were kids. We only ever wanted to travel and to experience life as a group of friends. We feel like on the eve of our 20th anniversary as a band, now is a good time to call time. “We're in a fortunate position where our fans still want to see us live and come celebrate the life of this band. So that is what we will do for 2024 and 2025. We can't wait to see our fans on the road.” explains frontman Josh Franceschi.Dave Griffiths caught up with Josh to find out a little more about what to expect and how much fun the band plans to have on their final tour to this country.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kyra-Jade CoombsSydney trio Yours Truly stamped themselves on the Australian music landscape with their impressive 2020 album Self Care, which was nominated for an ARIA for Best Hard Rock or Heavy album.Rather than rest on their laurels, the band attacked their craft with even more intent, spending 2023 touring Europe alongside You Me At Six, ticking off their first-ever UK headline shows, supporting Against The Current in North America and touring Australia nationally with Neck Deep.Yours Truly kicked off 2024 with an appearance at THPS25 in Brisbane, celebrating 25 years of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with Tony Hawk himself in attendance, as well as embarking on their entirely sold-out Call My Name Tour across Australia in March. The band will also return overseas later this year, appearing at Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK this August alongside headliners Blink-182, Fred Again, Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher and many more.It is a fitting reward for a band who have championed the cause of Australian music at every opportunity, with their new album, TOXIC (out August 16), set to propel the band and their music to even greater heights.HEAVY caught up with vocalist Mikaila Delgado and guitarist Teddie Winder-Haron to venture inside the new album and the band's future plans."Nervous, and excited," Teddie smiled when asked how they were feeling about the impending release of Toxic. "Mostly excited. We've been hanging out a bunch prepping for all the shows we've got coming up and practicing a lot, so I think just being around each other is hyping each other up. Still a little bit nervous, but I guess that's part of it."HEAVY asks about the selection process for album singles."Call My Name we chose just because we loved it, so much," Mikaila began. "It was actually finished before we tracked the album. It was the first song we tracked for the record and everyone was like wait and see what other songs we get from the album when it is finished - because a song can change - and we got to a point where we thought this song is still gonna be good, let's just put it out. I think Sour was the same. When we wrote it, we were like, this is gonna be a single. I guess it's just having that gut feeling."Watch/listen to the full interview for more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Between You & Me over Zoom video!Fresh from the frenzy of their sold-out intimate headline tour, Australia's Between You & Me (BYAM) have today shared their brand new single and music video, “YEAH!” Opening with sunny acoustic chords reminiscent of early 2000s radio hits, “YEAH!” bursts into a feel-good verse carried by the distinct vocals of frontman Jake Wilson before moving into what is perhaps the band's most pronounced singalong chorus yet. In line with its bright and upbeat sound.Jake says the song is about “living your best life and not caring what anyone else thinks. I imagine this song playing in the montage scene of an early 2000s bratty comedy film. Stylistically it's a big shift for BYAM, but we wanted to bring beachy summer vibes to a fun and carefree song.”The band teamed up once again with Canadian producer Sam Guaiana (Armageddon - 2021), who flew to Australia earlier this year to record with the band at Beveridge Road Recording Studios in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges.“YEAH!” is the band's second independent release, and follows their addictive February single “Nevermind” which, on their recent run of intimate headline shows, proved to be a new fan favorite. Sonically “Nevermind” earmarked a new era for BYAM, and according to the band perfectly captured “the spirit of our band and our live show.” The single was swiftly added to rotation on triple j, and arrived ahead of a massive stint in the USA supporting Knuckle Puck and Real Friends, followed by an Australian tour joining Slowly Slowly on the road upon their return. BYAM also joined You Me At Six and Set It Off on their recent Australian run.In 2021, Between You & Me's acclaimed record Armageddon (Hopeless Records) took the band to new heights, featuring hit singles “Deadbeat”, “Butterflies”, “Change” and “Go To Hell” ft. Mikaila Delgado of Yours Truly. The electrifying 10-track record landed as triple j's Spotlight Album on release, alongside an interview on the station's Breakfast program, and has since clocked up over 13.5million global streams in addition to support from BBC Radio 1 (UK), Spotify, and more. To celebrate the album, Between You & Me stepped out on their biggest headline Australian tour in 2022, finishing with a milestone sold-out hometown show at Melbourne's The Corner Hotel. As the year drew to a close, the band took to the USA, joining American pop punk outfit State Champs on an extensive month-long run. With new singles “YEAH!” and “Nevermind” minting BYAM's newly independent era, the band are more motivated than ever to continue their global takeover. Fans both at home and abroad can expect more new music and touring news to come.We want to hear from you! Interview with Holding Absence (Lucas Returns!)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Holding Absence over Zoom video! From the moment of our first breath to the very last gasp we take before we die, we never stop growing as people. Every trial and tribulation, every heartbreak, success and failure, every scar, blemish and wrinkle is another brushstroke illuminating our life's unique canvas. As Holding Absence frontman Lucas Woodland sings on “The Angel in the Marble,” the closing track on his band's outstanding third album The Noble Art of Self-Destruction (out now via SharpTone Records), we are, each and every one of us, “a puzzle, a painting, a work of art in the making.”Holding Absence's new album is a testament to how our life's story is never fully told, with opportunities for change and growth found in every moment, from the depths of despair to the euphoria of our greatest loves. Whether adding flourishes of colour to an already picturesque painting, or chiselling away at the marble to reveal the beauty within, The Noble Art of Self-Destruction – the final act in a trilogy of records encompassing the first chapter of Holding Absence's career – speaks to how we are each an unfinished work of art with new meanings and qualities waiting to be discovered.A record Lucas describes as a form of self-therapy that sees him more candid and comfortable with his emotions than ever before, The Noble Art of Self-Destruction brims with a level of energy, excitement and sheer weight of feeling that is unparalleled in contemporary alternative music. Whether Lucas and his bandmates – guitarist Scott Carey, bassist Ben Elliott and drummer Ash Green – are performing relatable anthems about imposter syndrome and self-loathing like massive singles “Crooked Melody” and “False Dawn,” gushing love ballads (“Honey Moon”) or existential reflections on suicide (“Death Nonetheless”), the four-piece's approach on their new album is packed with the kind of vigour that saw Kerrang! label them as British rock's “new leading light” and Loudwire proclaim the Cardiff natives to be “the UK's most exciting new rock band.”Recorded at Canada's Jukasa Studios with producer Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Bury Tomorrow), The Noble Art of Self-Destruction builds further into the lore of Holding Absence that sets them apart from many of their contemporaries. Taking influence from a varied array of sources including Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo, sci-fi blockbuster Star Wars and the Japanese pottery art of Kintsugi, Holding Absence's new LP speaks to the desire of Lucas and his bandmates to create a project that exists as so much more than just a band.Having broken one million monthly listeners on Spotify and with top song “Afterlife” racking up in excess of 30,000,000 streams, The Noble Art of Self-Destruction looks a sure bet to bring even more success the way of Holding Absence, who've toured with the likes of Funeral For a Friend, Electric Callboy and You Me At Six. Previous LP The Greatest Mistake of My Life saw the band grace the covers of Kerrang! and Rock Sound, with glowing coverage from outlets including Loudwire, Alternative Press and Upset. The Guardian, meanwhile, praised Holding Absence as a band “making pop-rock anthems with rib-rattling drumming and mainstream appeal.”With that love only set to grow once The Noble Art of Self-Destruction is released, it's important for Lucas to emphasize how this album represents that what's come so far is just the beginning of Holding Absence's journey. We want to hear from you! Interview by Kyra-Jade CoombsYOU ME AT SIX – Josh FranceschiYou Me at Six are due to start their Australian tour for the first time in 5 years this July in Perth on the 9th and finishing up in Melbourne on the 16th. It's been a long-awaited return for the band and fans alike. Heavy took the chance to catch up with Josh Franceschi to chat about the upcoming tour and some insight on their newest album, Truth Decay.Australia has been a home away from home for the boys. Our knack for being welcoming and laid back has always been something Josh looks forward to and this time around they get to enjoy our ‘colder' weather instead of coming in the guts of our Aussie summers! There's always been a connection between You Me at Six and our Australian bands. Whether it be on our home shores or abroad they've always clicked and ‘banded' with our musos. We touched on playing shows or festivals with Parkway Drive, Yours Truly, Tonight Alive, Northlane and Tame Impala, for balance of course. One thing that stood out for me was Josh mentioning our (bands) have this self-sufficient ‘fuck this, we just got to do it ourselves' attitude that isn't waiting for anyone to sign them… actually getting out there making their dreams come true by themselves. This made me feel a huge sense of pride about our musicians. He isn't wrong, we have so many amazing bands that spend day in and out grinding to make it in this industry.Truth Decay has amassed millions of streams on platforms, and I wondered how this resonated with You Me at Six. Josh made a really good point in stating that this really didn't mean ‘fuck all'. A song can stream well and in a live environment can fall dead. He would rather gauge a songs success in how it is received playing a show, when they feel most connected to their fans. Seeing fans singing along to an album with all their heart when it's only just been released means so much more then any stream would. You Me and Six are just shy of being together for 20 years and I wondered how they nurtured their professional and personal relationship together to which Josh replied, “Our collective goal is to take care of one another verses anything else”. Keeping everything equal and fare, talking through decisions and never disrespecting one another for something that might feel ‘good' at the time. They've known each other since they were kids and treat each other as if there are truly family. “I could pick up the phone at anytime to their parents and know full well I'm doing right by their sons”. Being kind and respectful comes first and the music goes with this. I feel a lot of bands could learn from this way of thinking. There's plenty more covered in the full interview, have a listen and enjoy.

The Dark Side Of Music With Derek Hanjora
#391: Australian Alternative Band, Yours Truly... TRIGGER WARNING!

The Dark Side Of Music With Derek Hanjora

Australian alternative bright lights Yours Truly have announced their brand new EP is this what i look like? which will be coming out July 15th, 2022 via UNFD. The band have also released a new song and video “Hallucinate” which features Josh Franceschi of You Me At Six. This will be the first full release from the band since their huge debut Self Care back in 2020, and also features a guest spot from DR€W ¥ORK from Stray From the Path. Speaking about the new single Mikaila Delgado explains “'Hallucinate' is an anxiety attack turned into music, detailing how it takes over your body so totally that it feels as if you're under the influence of something. I've struggled badly with anxiety and it's debilitating every day to be at war with your own thoughts. It's one of the darkest songs we've ever written but I found a lot of power in pulling out the chaos of how anxiety feels and sounds to me and putting it in a song.” Watch the video for “Hallucinate” here. This brilliant new EP marks the start of a new chapter for Yours Truly, inspired by the music they are all collectively listening to now (Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, Bloc Party, Head Automatica), the seven tracks see the band scatter in every direction possible. There's the electro-thrash of “Lights On”, the aching alt-rock swagger of recent single “Walk Over My Grave” and the fearless pop stomp of “If You're Drowning (I'll Learn How To Hold My Breath)”. Though actually, this new EP was never meant to be a bold step forward for the group, and was originally planned as a three-track companion to their debut album Self-Care, called Self-Sabotage. The EP was meant to tackle something other than the “sunshine and butterflies” of their debut album, dig deeper, be more true and reflective of the band now. “We spent that whole album telling people everything was going to be alright but the world had clearly taken a turn. Over the past few years, self care has been incredibly difficult,” explains Delgado. “We wanted to explore 'that'.” is this what i look like? stays true to that goal, but once they got into the studio with their “anything goes” attitude, they realized these songs “felt like a different universe entirely.” Rather than running scared or trying to dial it back, the band decided to jump in, accept these new challenges and make themselves at home. It's a bold move for a band who, in it for the long haul, wanted to just gradually push things forward on every record. However two years without touring and without being able to get in the practice space together has changed that patient mindset. “Now we just want to write the songs we want to write. Let's not be afraid. Let's just be the best band we possibly can.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thedarksideofmusic/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thedarksideofmusic/support
