This is a special episode of Wrongful Conviction, featuring guests Delia D'Ambra, host of Audiochuck's CounterClock, and Frances Watson, President of the Indiana Innocence Project. In Lakeville, Indiana in 1989, Reverend Bob Pelley, his wife Dawn, and Bob’s step-daughters, Janel and Jolene were found shot to death in their home. Bob’s teenage son, Jeff Pelley, was a suspect due to ongoing tensions with his father, which were exacerbated by him restricting Jeff’s ability to attend prom night activities. Jeff claimed to have left home to pick up his girlfriend, but inconsistencies in his alibi and the timeline raised suspicions. Jeff was ultimately charged with the murders in 2002, over a decade after they took place, and convicted in 2006 based on circumstantial evidence. He was sentenced to 160 years in prison. Jeff Pelley has consistently maintained his innocence, and post-conviction litigation raised alternate theories, including alleged ties between Bob Pelley and organized crime from his past life in Florida, potentially involving his friends and the Hawley family who were implicated in various financial crimes. Testimony from a woman supported the theory that Bob might have been targeted for his past illegal financial activities. However, this evidence was deemed inadmissible, and Jeff's requests for a new trial have been repeatedly denied. Link / Link HOJE NO GIRO SOBRE PESSOAS QUE FAZEM A MÍDIA: 10 - ...As pessoas somos nós mesmos! Unmasking the Truth: Join us for an insightful interview with a veteran detective, as he reveals what it's really like to protect and serve. From reform needed within law enforcement to keeping victims at the forefront, Det. Williams shows us what it's like to live the life of a detective. It was truly eye-opening to talk to him about what it's really like and how Hollywood has done a disservice by dramatizing what LEOs deal with on a daily basis (think a LOT of late nights and even more paperwork) but Detective William's' shows us he's truly one of the good ones. It's been a long time coming, but we are finally bringing you the story of Lucy Letby. Lucy Letby, a woman, by all accounts, that was meek and a little nerdy, working as a neonatal intensive care nurse. A job not many people could handle. One would think she would be considered an angel for the work that she did caring for the tiniest and most fragile of babies. But this so-called angel was a devil in disguise. For our one year anniversary, we're taking you to Poland to tell you about the murder of Dariusz Janiszewski whose body was found floating in the Ober River in December of 2000. His case would be shelved after six months of no leads, but in 2003 a novel called Amok is published and it has a plot line that is eerily similar to Dariusz murder. Amok, though, is a work of fiction, it's just a coincidence. Or is it?For more information of the podcast, please visit our website at botdpod.comBlanco, J. I. (n.d.). Our card this week is Mary and Susanne Reker, the 2 of Hearts from Minnesota. On Labor Day of 1974, less than 24 hours before 15-year-old Mary was to start her sophomore year of high school, she told her parents she needed to make a quick shopping trip to pick up some last-minute school supplies and a winter coat. Her younger sister, 12-year-old Susanne, tagged along and they waved goodbye to their father, who was painting the exterior of the house when they left. On a day so ordinary, it never crossed his mind that that would be the last time he'd see his two daughters alive. While Renee's killer spared Caleb's life, their actions took away the person who loved him most and shattered his sense of safety and belonging for years to come.Today, a cold case detective is renewing the push for answers in Renee's murder, hoping to finally repair some of the damage that was done over 30 years ago.If you know anything about Caleb's birthday party or the reported trip to Dunkin Donuts that Renee and Caleb might've taken just before Renee's murder, or anything else about the 1992 murder of Renee McBreen, please call the Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 and ask for Detective Ray Reeves. Our card this week is Elizabeth Miller, the 7 of Hearts from Connecticut. In the summer of 1994, Elizabeth's body was found outside of an abandoned building in an area rife with crime. On this episode of The Journalism Salute, Mark Simon is joined by Justine Harman. Justine is a journalist and podcaster and current host of the podcast Killed. Killed is a podcast about journalism that gets … killed … for a variety of reasons. Season 2 from Audiochuck is currently ongoing. It's ranked among the most downloaded podcasts in Seasons 1 and 2.We talked about Justine's former career as a magazine writer and editor (she still does freelance work) at Elle and Glamour, and how she works to make celebrity features (like one she did on Jessica Chastain) be more than just a typical story. We then discussed the origin story for Killed, along with one example of the kinds of pieces the podcast touches on – a story that has had trouble getting published about a player for the Pittsburgh Steelers who believes he was cut because he had a white girlfriend.Justine also provided advice for those interested in working for fashion magazines and also for those interested in writing for podcasts.Justine's salute: New York Magazine.Thank you as always for listening. In 2021, we worked with Amanda Rickles to cover the disappearance of her uncle, Brian Wehrle. You may remember that 39-year-old Brian Wehrle, drove through the great Atlanta Flood of 2009 to be in his hometown of Carrollton, GA for a court date—one he never made. Now, Amanda has secured new, major coverage of Brian's case in hopes of pushing his case forward, but she needs your help, too: she's working to fund a billboard campaign in Carrollton, GA to draw awareness to Brian's disappearance. Thank you to Audiochuck for their willingness to bring Brian's case to their audience and help raise the profile of Amanda's campaign; this support is VITAL to help in resolving Brian's case. C&C Challenge: Chill out with the bitching and say one positive thing about yourself everyday! We have done a great job at keeping up this challenge since recording, sending each other a positivity reminder every morning and saying one thing positive about ourselves to each other to hold ourselves accountable! It has really helped us and we wanted to share this challenge with you, so grab your bestie and make a promise to do this with each other for at least one week, set a reminder in your calendars!! Morgan starts off this episode by digging into a haunting historical property in our neck of the woods: Tennessee's Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary!!! Our girlies at Two Girls One Ghost put us on and omg, prepared to be creeped out (but also laugh so hard, because that is our specialty)! Taylar then wraps up 133 by taking us down to Texas and covering the case of: the Harris County Jane and John Doe! A case that was partially solved thanks to podcasting, yes you heard that right!!! With the help of Ashley Flower's foundation, AudioChuck, Harris County was able to secure funding for research that flipped this entire case on its back and changed the lives of people who thought their loved ones were gone forever! One day, we will have the opportunity to make hands on change in the True Crime world, thanks to you all supporting us and showing us the cases that need attention, that is what True Crime podcasts are for! Such a cool episode with very personal and interesting cases! We will see you all next week! Say one positive thing about yourself, know that you are loved, and are apart of a community that has the ability to make big change! We love you, Besties! See ya next week! Produced by Dear Media

In fact, pretty much from birth she was set up for failure, with a very tumultuous childhood. After being sent to Knoxville Tennessee's Job Corps Center at 18 to get her life together, she meets fellow satanist, 17 year old Tadaryl Shipp, and it's love at first sight. Stacey Castor: Daughter, mother, wife, widow, wife.....widow? Stacey had a good life married to her husband, Michael Wallace. until Michael died at 38 of a heart attack due to his bad heart and substance abuse issues, according to Stacey. She finds love, again, in David Castor, 5 years after burying Michael, tragedy strikes again in the form of David committing suicide and poor Stacey is left alone again. it was truly a horrible, tragic situation, but there's one person that isn't buying it. PLEASE check out this week's musical guest Daylin, links are below! Transcript: Hey Pod lovers. I'm your host Marie and If you're joining us for the first time: Welcome! The Mastercast is a podcast recommendation show that brings you a brand new non-spoiler binge-worthy review every week of the best podcasts in a short and sweet 2-3 minute summary on everything you could want to know, from the number of hosts to on average how long you can expect each episode to be. New episodes come out every Monday. You can find the week's other reviews on the show's social on Instagram @themastercast and Twitter @mastercastpods. If you like what you hear and want to help out this independent show you can find me on Buy me a coffee by searching The Mastercast. I'd really appreciate it. This week's review is onStrangeland - No Spoilers! This true crime podcast from Audiochuck covers the 2003 triple homicide of mother, her 2-year-old son, and their nanny in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Also known as the Mile Massacre or the Koreatown Slayings, the execution of almost an entire family has left the Koreatown community with a mystery for what has become two decades. Hosted journalist Ben Adair and interpreter Sharon Choi, the podcast covers not only the crime but how crime can effect immigrant neighbrohoods and the investigations into those crimes very differently. It's a crictal and well-deserved look at how different the experience of immigrants can be in our criminal justice system. There are outside interviews weaved into the narrative and without trying spoil anything I'll say the podcast plays a part in investigation. The show has 4.2 out of 5 stars with 1,300 ratings on Apple Podcasts. There is some criticism of what seems to be staged dialouge between the hosts but I didn't find that it made the pod unlistenable. There are ten total episodes that are about 34 minutes long on average. The last episode does mention new episodes will come out as there are updates in the case. Overall a podcast everyone should add to their queue. Similar pods: The Other Latif, Lost in Panama, and Tom Brown's BodyAll right, guys, that's all for this week but remember if you want to see the cover art, sources or the written transcript for this episode be sure to check out the show notes. This week, Julie and Chad talk to the Queen of Crime Podcasts, Ashley Flowers. Ashley dissects quitting her corporate job in medical sales to build her podcast empire, Audiochuck, and clearing space to write a novel. She also shares how her interest in true crime has actually helped close a number of unsolved cases. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Ashley Flowers, the host of CRIME JUNKIE, is on a PR tour to promote a novel that she worked on with another writer. As part of that, ELLE magazine just published a long article referring to her as “the Queen of True Crime.” To our surprise, the Murder Sheet was also mentioned in that article. The article gets into the history of crime junkie and it's parent company Audiochuck, Flowers's upbringing, and flowers' close relationship with sarah Turney — a true crime podcaster who we'll note has often weighed in publicly on ethical issues but has seemingly not spoken about the controversy around Flowers. Interesting given that she also sits on the board of Flowers' nonprofit. It discusses a bit of the criticism we leveled at her for RED BALL. That podcast, you will recall, focused on the Burger Chef murders. As part of it, Bill Dalton of the Indiana State Police gave Flowers the exclusive right to monetize criminal investigative files that even the families of the victims are not permitted to see. We are quoted in the piece as calling the resulting programs badly written copaganda– we stand by that criticism but also note there were far worse ethical transgressions involved in the production of that program. In the same article, Flowers dismisses the plagiarism complaints against her. She says she did not use the work of other podcasters or paraphrase their words. She claims that “I didn't take anyone's work and make it my own.” We do not believe that to be true. But we thought it made sense to let you decide for yourself. So, as a bonus episode, we are re presenting an episode we originally released late last year which goes into considerable detail on the plagiarism charges Flowers tries to brush aside and the long lasting real world harm caused by the Bill Dalton/ RED BALL affair. It permanently affected the willingness of the Indiana State Police to use media to publicize cold cases– and cost at least one grieving family the opportunity to have the story of their loved one reach a natrional audience. Jason Cousineau and Eric Renderking Fisk discuss the latest controversy from The Crime Junkie host and AudioChuck founder Ashley Flowers. Her new podcast "The Deck" is an obvious, blatant rip-off of another podcast that's now in its second season: 'Dealing Justice.' Even after the countless charges of plagiarism from other True Crime Podcasters, it's a genuine mystery why publications like The New York Times would publish fluff articles about her without actually using the word "plagiarism" when describing her instances of actual plagiarism? Why haven't more True Crime Fans tuned her and her other programs on "AudioChuck" production company? Why is she still allowed to have a platform after committing a carnal sin in the realm of journalism that has caused journalists to lose everything for doing far less?
Audiochuck, the production house behind quite a number of popular True Crime podcasts, has been accused of stealing the concept for their newest podcast (The Deck) from the independent podcast "Dealing Justice." To be honest, it looks pretty grim for and paints them in a very poor light. I'll discuss it in this episode. I'll also discuss Listen Notes, and how I think it's causing more problems than it's helping podcasters - at least relative to data and rankings. Audiochuck's newest weekly show, The Deck, is hosted by Ashley Flowers and takes true-crime listeners through a deck of playing cards that is unlike any other. For years, state prison systems and local law enforcement agencies across the U.S. have replaced the face cards of queens, kings and aces in traditional playing card decks with images of missing and murdered people. Investigators have passed these modified decks out in jails and prisons hoping that they will make their way into the hands of someone with answers. These are the coldest of cases where investigators have no choice but to show their hand in the hopes of getting killers to fold.Join Ashley Flowers every Wednesday as she works with investigators and victims' families to recount the details of these cases in hopes that justice may finally be served.Listen to The Deck wherever you get your podcasts or visit https://thedeckpodcast.com/

Audiochuck's founder and CEO, Ashley Flowers, has founded a new non-profit called Season of Justice. Season of Justice (SOJ) is dedicated to providing funding to law enforcement agencies and families to help solve cold cases. SOJ provides grants to law enforcement for advanced DNA analysis solutions, such as forensic genealogy and next-generation sequencing. The organization also awards grants to families to support awareness campaigns, search teams and other initiatives that can assist in pushing their cold cases forward. SOJ's goal is to provide financial resources for both law enforcement and families in order to bring closure to those impacted by unsolved violent crimes.Though Season of Justice is completely separate from audiochuck, it's because of Crime Junkie listeners that we have been able to fund the organization so far. Every time you've ordered merch, signed up for the fan club or just listened to one of our ads on Crime Junkie we have donated to SOJ.Because of you we have already been able to award $145,000 in grants to assist with 25 cold cases. And that's JUST the beginning. We expect to award another $75,000 to $100,000 through the rest of this year and hopefully much more in the years to come.At audiochuck, we believe we have a responsibility to do more than just tell these stories. We believe you as listeners have a responsibility to do more than just listen. We really wanted to be able to move the needle in the true crime space and create responsible true crime content and we are doing that together. Because of you and because of this show, we will all be directly responsible for making a difference. For making sure justice is served. For doing right by the people whose stories we tell.Whether you've been here since day one or you just found our show – THANK YOU. Thank you for being a part of this journey. And thank you for helping us making a lasting responsible impact in the true crime space.Audiochuck will always continue to use the funds brought in by our fans to support Season of Justice and other non-profits and cases that are important to us and our listeners, but if you want to donate directly you can visit the website Seasonofjustice.org. Season of Justice is a 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax-deductible. Law enforcement, victims and families can also submit grant applications on the website for funding. One day we hope to wake up and say there are no more cold cases… That won't be tomorrow, but there is a future where that's possible. And thank you for making that happen.
