#WeirdDarknessRadio WEEK OF APRIL 13, 2025HOUR ONE: What caused complete darkness to engulf the New England town of Newburyport in 1871 – and what were the strange lights seen by dozens of students and their teacher? *** Engineers working to link Scotland and England with cables on the floor of the ocean have stumbled across an amazing find from Word War 1… a submarine that was sunk due to a sea monster! (The Submarine Sunk by a Sea Monster) *** “The Mira Theater Haunting” by Bili White ==========HOUR TWO: “MJ12: JFK and UFOs” *** No one likes uninvited guests – and it appears, neither do those in the afterlife. (Dead Village) *** Ask Pedro Rodrigues Filho and he'll tell you he's a nice guy. After all, he may be a serial killer – but he only kills bad guys. (The Real-Life Dexter) *** What caused the sky to go dark in the middle of the day back in 1780? (New England's Dark Day)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: Paul Bernardo, with the help of his wife Karla Homolka, stalked a Canadian suburb with a number of terrible rapes that were only the beginning of their life of cruelty. They would come to be known as the Ken and Barbie Killers. (The True Horror of the Ken and Barbie Killers) *** When you think of a con artist, you think of slick players like Johnny Hooker and Henry Gondorf from “The Sting”, masters of disguise and ID like Frank Abagnale from “Catch Me If You Can”, or even the mysterious Keyser Söze from “The Usual Suspects”. But I'm guessing what you never picture in your head is a Victorian woman named Madame Rachel. She never got her own movie, but she was the real deal. (The Con Woman Madame Rachel) *** A forest in beautiful West Sussex, UK is only beautiful from the outside – for within, witnesses have seen mysterious things… including UFOs, mysterious deaths, and unexplained vanishings. Happy New Year everyone! This Most Notorious Encore episode revisits my conversation with Alan Logan, originally released on May 19, 2021. Most of us are familiar with the critically acclaimed film called Catch Me If You Can, based on the autobiography of legendary confidence man Frank Abagnale. It's the story of a brazen teenage imposter who through charm and intellect was able to pass as an attorney, a doctor, a pilot and a university professor in the late 1960s and early 1970s. My guest, Alan C. Logan, has done extensive research into Frank Abagnale's well-known and near-mythical narrative, found it riddled with holes, and lays out some of what he has discovered for us on this week's episode of Most Notorious. Frank Abagnale is one of the most notorious con artists in history and the inspiration behind Steven Spielberg's film Catch Me if You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. He claims that before his 19th birthday, he successfully performed cons worth millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor, and a Louisiana parish prosecutor. But this is a complete embellishment. As Javier Leiva of the Pretend Podcast found out, Frank Abagnale was actually in PRISON while he supposedly carried out these elaborate cons. Tom Hanks chases Leonardo DiCaprio in one of the most fun cat-and-mouse chase thrillers of all time! And it's all “inspired” by a true story! As the tagline says, it's “a true story of a real fraud.” Okay. So how true is it? Well, we looked into it and……. Guys, what we found out is depressing.   Frank Abagnale didn't do any of the things he claimed he did in his book. You know, the things that are interesting, the things you're here for. He didn't pretend to be a lawyer or a doctor, he didn't forge millions of dollars of checks, he didn't travel the world as a fake pilot. Indeed, when his book was published in 1980, reporters who bothered doing even the tiniest amount of due diligence were able to debunk his claims. Skeptical reporting has followed Abagnale his entire career. It hasn't mattered. His story is more fun.   Does that affect the way we view the movie? Imagine uncovering the hidden world of a modern-day con artist. Our latest episode kicks off with an exclusive update on Christopher Lee Lind, a notorious fake paramedic likened to the famous Frank Abagnale of "Catch Me If You Can." Discover how Lind managed to secure multiple EMT licenses under various aliases and built a significant following on TikTok—all while perpetuating his deceitful persona, including falsely presenting himself as a Marine. Despite dedicated efforts from an online community, there have been no new developments since May 2023. We then switch gears to explore a curious case involving a Mingo firefighter accused of impersonation and theft, segueing into personal stories of our children graduating high school and the chaos of organizing family events. As we prepare for an exciting trip to England, we also take a light-hearted look at the quirky world of jaywalking, its historical roots, and the everyday pedestrian behaviors that drive us all a little crazy. From identity fraud to public safety, this episode is packed with intriguing stories and heartfelt moments, all underscoring the importance of community, family, and adhering to basic social rules.Tickets for 1st RespondersConcerts, Sporting Events, Comedy Shows and more at INCREDIBLE discounts!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. A quick update and then I introduce you to my colleague, Javier, who runs Pretend Podcast. Pretend is a true crime podcast hosted by investigative journalist Javier Leiva. The show delves into the world of real people pretending to be someone they're not. Leiva dives into swindlers, snake oil salesmen, undercover FBI agents, cult leaders, and more. One of his seasons covers Frank Abagnale, known for his infamous exploits as depicted in the film 'Catch Me If You Can.' Leiva's investigative reporting has garnered attention from major players in the entertainment industry, and he has been featured in respected publications like the New York Times and BBC. He was also featured in the Netflix documentary 'Don't Pick Up The Phone.' Pretend has consistently ranked as one of the top true crime podcasts in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia on the Spotify Charts. Pretend: Who's afraid of Ladonna Humphrey? obviously centers around LaDonna Humphrey, a true crime mogel. Every enthralling installment of this new season introduces a new voice woven into Humphrey's past, each carrying their own secrets about Humphrey, culminating in an interview with Humphrey herself. In the latest episode of "Life of a CISO" with Dr. Eric Cole, the focus is on preparing oneself to become a Chief Information Security Officer, especially for those who lack experience. Dr. Cole emphasizes the importance of adopting the mindset and behavior of a CISO from an early stage in one's career. Drawing parallels to the concept of social engineering, he highlights how individuals like Frank Abagnale successfully assumed roles by acting the part, demonstrating that perception often precedes official title or experience. Dr. Cole provides actionable advice for aspiring CISOs, urging them to proactively seek opportunities to immerse themselves in the world of cybersecurity and business. From reading business books to volunteering for security awareness initiatives within their organizations, he encourages individuals to invest in developing the skills and knowledge required for the role. Moreover, Dr. Cole underscores the significance of seeking mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals, as well as the value of taking initiative and asking for opportunities to learn and contribute beyond their current roles. Through these proactive steps, individuals can lay the groundwork for a successful transition into the role of a CISO.

Weird Darkness: Stories of the Paranormal, Supernatural, Legends, Lore, Mysterious, Macabre, Unsolved

HOUR ONE: What caused complete darkness to engulf the New England town of Newburyport in 1871 – and what were the strange lights seen by dozens of students and their teacher? *** Engineers working to link Scotland and England with cables on the floor of the ocean have stumbled across an amazing find from Word War 1… a submarine that was sunk due to a sea monster! (The Submarine Sunk by a Sea Monster) *** “The Mira Theater Haunting” by Bili White==========HOUR TWO: “MJ12: JFK and UFO's” *** No one likes uninvited guests – and it appears, neither do those in the afterlife.
