In this episode of Dia-Logue: The Diapoint Podcast, Pam speaks with Yonca Tokbaş and Ayşen Gilroy about the foundation of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil.   They discuss everything from harvesting to production, storage, and how to use it.   Ayşen Gilroy is a passionate olive oil entrepreneur with a profound love for the Aegean Region's liquid gold. Her and her family-owned olive oil business journey began with a deep appreciation for olive oil's rich history, health benefits, and culinary versatility.   Their journey began with a small grove and a dream, and today, their olive oil is celebrated for its impeccable taste and uncompromising quality. Their dedication to excellence was recently recognized when The Gilroy's was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal at the 16th National Natural Cold Pressed Olive Oil Competition organized by The Friends of Olives Association. This is a testament to the uncompromising quality and exceptional taste of their olive oil.   But that's not all. Ayşen's talents extend beyond the olive groves. She's also a culinary virtuoso, she is an amazing chef and the creative force behind The Gilroy Cookbook https://www.instagram.com/thegilroycookbook/?hl=en - a guide to beautiful healthy food and entertaining. This was created from her experience as a chef and owner of a boutique cafe.     Yonca Tokbaş's love of olive trees and olive oil comes from her grandfather who owned olive groves and produced olive oil in the Muğla region in Turkey. The ancient, wise and natural way of communal work for the olive oil business inspired many of her passions and for her to continue this journey.   She started her own olive oil brand and business 10 years ago in her small garden, with just 10 olive trees. With a certification in Permaculture Design, she now owns a grove in Şenköy, which is a Turkish village famous for its organic olive groves.   Her 2022 olive oil was awarded a gold medal and the 2023 harvest olive oil special series named HOPE has a record level of 1,041 polyphenol.   Aysen and Yonca are both partner members of Bafa Natural Life Agricultural Production and Marketing Cooperative which was founded in 2019 to bring together the agricultural power and unique ecosystem of the region under the roof of a new-generation production cooperative.       Join the Diapoint mailing list for exclusive insights, offers and diabetes wisdom.   Visit the D-Shop where we offer beautiful, practical diabetes supplies and lifestyle accessories.   The Ultimate T1D Game Plan: A game-changing home study program for parents of school-aged children with Type 1 Diabetes.   Diabetes resources.   Looking for health support? Meet Aysen Farag is an Indigenous Medicine Woman of Amazigh, Jieng, and Kuku-Bari heritage. She has worked as a traditional herbalist and ceremonial leader for the last eight years and has continued to support the roots of indigenous values, honor, and customs as a teacher of ethnobotany and indigenous rights through African narratives of understanding. She knows well the plight of indigenous peoples around the world, and the sense of urgency there is to use their gifts and knowledge to bring healing to the Earth and its human and non-human kin. She has been working diligently to revive her ancestors' old traditions and languages, fighting for land reclamation, and recovering sacred ceremonies that were lost due to colonialism. In addition, she offers support, healing, and mentorship to others wanting to deepen into their own ancestral traditions, whether directly known to them or not. Aysen's greatest dream is to redefine the narratives of African Indigenous and Diasporic people with the beauty, wisdom, and grace that they deserve. Aysen shares her incredible story from Turkey to England, from escaping political imprisonment to building her philosophy around activism - activism as a lifestyle. She offers a different take on activism, beyond demonstrations and protests. Activism is about knowing where you live and the people you live with. It's about talking to real people, real problems because change comes from how much you work within communities. It's about sharing with and caring for the people around you.

For the second episode, she discusses how it is decided who takes care of children after a divorce. Aysen Farag is an Egyptian-Sudanese Medicine Woman. She was born into a long lineage of Indigenous African healers, and has been initiated as a wisdom keeper, in the lineage of the Q'ero people from the Andes. She passionately shares her gifts in energy healing, sacred plant medicine, ceremony, and intuitive readings, while working with the wisdom gained from various elders and the medicines that have been passed down through the generations in her family. Aysen has studied ayurveda, yoga, sacred plant medicine, mantra/sound healing, sacred sexuality, and the shaman’s way. From all of these paths she learned about the importance of our physical existence, that the spiritual life is not to transcend the body, but to realize the divinity of our being as we are now, and to honour the body as a gateway into the soul. You can find her at http://www.earthdreamstotems.com Aysen’s website where she invites you to enter the beautiful offerings there Earth Keepers wisdom for the body and soul. In today's episode Aysen shares her wisdom around Story Medicine and why it's such a powerful healing tool. She talks about the impact of the ancestral lineages of soul and body. We discuss the how pushing away pain strengthens it's hold, and she explains how being present to our physical body and developing a relationship is the best way to access and heal that pain.
