I'm so excited to share this special 20 min episode stack as a highlight with a powerful message. I'm publishing this curation to help you make the most of your time. The episode features segments from the episode 075, 076, & 077 featuring Becky Higgins and the following Aftercast & Solocast. https://richie.libsyn.com/becky-higgins-project-life-how-to-cultivate-a-good-life ====== Richie Norton interviews Becky Higgins! A veteran in the space of documenting and preserving photos and memories since 1996, Becky has been innovating + inspiring people since she was a 19-year-old college student who landed a job as the first creative editor of a scrapbooking magazine called “Creating Keepsakes”. After a dozen years in that work of publishing countless articles and 9 books, she transitioned to starting her own company in 2009 so that she could follow her passion for offering solution-based products to people who felt the pains of being overwhelmed by pictures and memories. Becky saw (and FELT) the problem, created a solution, and brought Project Life® to market. “Cultivate a Good Life and Record it” has been the tagline from the beginning because Becky believes deeply that it's not just about preserving the memories and getting photos in books … but also truly living life with intention, confidence, and gratitude. Most of us are young enough to remember a world without social media and yet, for many of us, connecting with others online has become a part of our everyday lives. Church leaders have spoken of the power of social media. We’ve been encouraged to use it in sharing messages of light and truth, but our prophet has also issued specific invitations to take a break from it. Becky Higgins engages with over 80,000 people online as she builds a business centered on documenting life. On today's episode, she shares her thoughts on what being a disciple looks like in an online world and how we can signal that the most important person we follow is Christ. "I don't mean to make social media sound like such a spiritual thing but it is. ...It's between you and God. Be really intentional with who you're following for your reasons." One time I almost considered becoming engaged to someone (not my husband!) because I was so scared to say no. My struggle with saying yes and saying no has been a long journey, friends, and it's one I'm still working on. In this episode I want to talk about how to guard your yes's and give you my personal experience with, and guidelines, on how to do that. Last year I lived a year of yes (anyone else read Shonda Rimes' book?) and learned a lot about myself, and others, who behave this way. Not only does saying yes, and even saying no, affect you, it affects everyone around you. Maybe that's not surprising. If this is something you struggle with, examine the feelings that come up when you give a mis-intended yes. Now let's not go crazy here, I don't like laundry but I still say yes to it, because of my life's priorities. That's the bonus fourth point I share in this episode, along with 3 other rules I follow to guard my yes's. If this topic is something you know you need to work on even more, check out Becky Higgins episode "Why You Need to Say No to Good Things". About a few other things... If this episode struck a chord with you and you know it's time to respect what you really want out of your life, see if the Progress Program is right for you. Through small group coaching I want to help you get unstuck in ways that stick. Doors close 2/28 (or before that if the group reaches capacity - I keep it really small!). I always thought I was a patient person...until I had kids. Can any of you mamas relate? I have a naturally easy going personality and I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I am telling you, these little humans of mine push every button and get me riled up and yelling like no one else can. But I want to be more patient with them, and I will say that it has gotten easier for me to stay patient the longer I’ve been a mom...and I think that’s because I have so many opportunities to practice. Every single day, right? There is almost no limit to the number of opportunities that I have to practice staying calm when I want to lose it. And hey, when I get it wrong and do end up yelling in one moment, I can rest assured that I will have a chance to try again probably within the hour. The opportunities to practice developing more patience are nearly endless when you’re a parent. I talk about this and so much more on today’s episode, which is actually an excerpt from when I was a guest on a different podcast earlier this year. I’m sure you remember our guests from last week’s episode of 3 in 30: Becky Higgins and Becky Proudfit from the (https://beckyhiggins.com/podcast/) . I had the privilege of talking with them about patience on their show back in April, and they were so gracious to allow me to air an excerpt of that interview here on 3 in 30, for those of you who may have missed it on their podcast. I love these ladies, and this is one of my favorite conversations I’ve ever had about reframing patience. I hope you enjoy it as well! Three Takeaways Three ways to cultivate patience (“a willingness to suffer”) within your parenting... Choosing not to yell, even when you desperately want to escape your suffering by unloading your emotions on your kids. Choosing not to turn on the TV or hand your kids a screen, even when you want to escape the suffering of your kids’ whining Choosing to persevere in giving your kids chores, even when it would be so much easier to do it yourself Key Points & Quotes from this episode: The formal definition of patience is “a willingness to suffer.” “Every mom encounters situations pretty much every day where we can stop and think in that moment, ‘Am I going to cultivate patience and be willing to suffer right now, or am I going to take the easy way out and escape?’” “Most parents see misbehavior as a disruption, like ‘We've got to fix this and get it under control because you're interrupting my life’ versus seeing the misbehavior as almost exciting, like ‘This is an opportunity for me to teach and connect with this child.’ “Most of us mothers probably can see that we've gotten more patient over time because we've had lots of opportunities to practice it, whether or not we were consciously thinking about that or not. So how far would we come if we were consciously thinking about it and practicing deliberately to become better at this?” “There's also an element of being willing to accept your kids for who they are, even if that means a little bit of suffering for you, but continuing to love and be patient and not try to change them--still teaching them the values, still expecting them to work, but recognizing that maybe this child just doesn't value this in the same way that I do or her brothers and sisters, but she'll be okay." As mothers, most of us face some stress, worry, and overwhelm every day--that’s just sort of the nature of caring for other humans and managing all of the moving parts of family life. But when do the everyday stressors of motherhood cross over into the realm of anxiety? And do you have to have a formal diagnosis in order to own that you’re struggling with this? For many of us, anxiety can feel so debilitating and unwanted, whether it’s big and diagnosed or small and annoying. But is there a way to reframe it and see some unexpected gifts within these uncomfortable feelings? We explore these questions and so much more in this episode. Three Takeaways Yes, it really is anxiety. Know your triggers. Let go of expectations. Key Points and Quotes from this episode: You don’t need a diagnosis or a lifelong debilitation to have experience with anxiety. Our anxiety is usually our body’s way of communicating with us. Name it and where you feel it. Ex: I feel tightness in my gut, I feel my heart pounding. Triggers could be lack of hydration, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, loose boundaries, certain life circumstances Expectations or perceived expectations from others (and especially from yourself) can be one of the biggest culprits for anxiety. I’ve known Ali Edwards for many years. When I was editor at Simple Scrapbooks, Ali was a regular contributor to our sister publication, Creating Keepsakes, so in a sense we worked in parallel—we both created content for magazines—we are both memory keepers and teachers and we often taught classes at the same events. A few years beyond that, Ali was one of the most popular online teachers at bigpictureclasses.com and we LOVED working with her. I shared more of her professional bio in the episode, but here let me add that one of the primary reasons I adore Ali so much is the inspiring way she documents everyday life with her family. She is real and open with life—the good and the difficult. Through her many workshops, she has led tens of thousands of women in their quest to document both the momentous and the mundane. Ali is also a fantastic example of how traveling with a single word can help you live your current story and enhance the quality of your life—in fact, I know you’ll LOVE this episode because we talk about the power of words — as it relates to memory keeping, family life and personal well-being. If you’re not familiar with Ali’s annual project, called One Little Word, be sure to watch this video. You’ll also get to hear Ali talk about her health and some of the changes she is making to preserve and promote her vitality and combat frustrating conditions. She mentions that she is currently following the Wahls protocol, so I’m linking HERE to Dr. Terry Wahls website. Ali is really great to share what she is learning about health and wellness on her @ae_wellness Instagram account, so if you’re wanting more detailed information, you will enjoy following her there. Ali mentions a few times using Project Life, which is both a memory keeping approach and full system of products developed by our mutual friend, Becky Higgins. The idea of reading a list of words came from Liz Lamoreux You can learn much more about Ali at aliedwards.com and specifically on her about page, HERE. Be sure to peruse her favorite pages and projects because that’s my favorite part. Ali’s scrapbooks are full of the kinds of details I love.As always I’m so grateful to you for listening. If you have questions or comments, leave them here as a comment or send me an email stacy@stacyjulian.com — I love hearing from you! And remember, YOU have exactly enough time for the important things in your life.

Today I’m welcoming Becky Proudfit to the podcast for episode 53. You may know her as one half of Becky squared where she cohosts the podcast Cultivate a Good Life with Becky Higgins. She is also a former Disney Princess, a wife and a mom to four, a lover of travel and a cancer survivor. In this episode you will hear Becky remind moms that motherhood is “not about you.” She shares why she thinks motherhood is not about her but about loving her children and giving them agency. Becky and I discuss not tying spiritual things to merely being obedient to parents. Rather, Becky believes in teaching children to obey out of love for Heavenly Father and the Savior. We also talk about teaching children spiritual self-sufficiency so they can rely on the Savior as a perfect friend. Becky frequently uses opposites, also a pattern found in the scriptures, to teach her children. She doesn’t shy away from talking about Satan and his counterfeits. She views times when Satan is working on you as evidence that you are doing something right. Becky gives advice to moms whose children have used their agency to choose different paths. She also shares an easy and practical way any mom can know how God feels about her and recognize how He is showing up in her life. Show Notes This is the quote by President Russell M. Nelson Becky referenced about spiritual survival. “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” Go HERE to read Elder Uctdorf’s talk, A Matter of a Few Degrees Follow Becky Instagram: @beckyproudfit Podcast: Cultivate a Good Life Follow Spiritually Minded Mom Blog: spirituallymindedmom.com Instagram: @spirituallymindedmom Facebook: spirituallymindedmom Podcast: Spiritually Minded Mom on iTunes

I'm so delighted to have Becky Higgins on the podcast, sharing how she grew up and raising her family now. Becky has a fabulous enthusiasm for life, that I believe is contagious, and it shines through in our conversation. She is a working mom who has built an empire out of her passion for helping others to cultivate a good life and record it. I've admired her for a long time (as you'll hear right from the start) and having this chat with her made me love her even more. I just know you'll feel the same. We talked about her growing up in a small town, what her parents did that built her self esteem, and choosing friends in high school. I also had so many questions about her thoughts on being a working mom, something I've grappled with myself throughout my life, and even touched on how she met her husband, which I then told her about my 30 chapter love story I've typed out. Favorite quotes: "Kindness Always Wins" "The purpose of the task is to strengthen the relationship." "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." I probably asked more questions than the average person might about her business, and we may have veered off on a few tangents, but I truly do feel like she and I are kindred spirits, and I just know you all will adore her by the end of our conversation, too. She is a storyteller, and I LOVE it! We talk about my August value of the month: KINDNESS! If you aren't already following along on my Instagram account, I decided I wanted MORE parenting discussions and I want to hear from all of YOU, as well! Follow along at @CapturingJoy.KristenDuke or Search the hashtag #IntentionalParentingProject to weigh in on the month themes and share your input as well! Come on over to my Instagram and give Becky some LOVE and tell her what stuck out to you from our conversation that you hope to implement in your family.

So, last Saturday, on June 6th, I visited Gothenburg and went to two classes that Cicci at Design in Papers had arranged. It was two classes with Becky Higgins - Classroom and Exclusive. For months I've longed for these classes. You can read more about them on the PLswe blog where most of our team there went to her classes.I got the huge privilege to interview her after the first class in the afternoon, at Quality Hotel 11, when there was a two hour gap betweeen classes.Do I have to tell you how nervous, starstruck and greatful I felt? Probably not. :)Excuse my English if it's not that flowing or perfect. I hope you can hear me anyway and can get something out of this interview. And if you don't know this already, Becky is a fantastic woman who's so down to earth. She makes everyone feel special. She's just great and I bet everyone who met her here in Sweden agrees with me!I feel so inspired and psyched to Project Life after her classes and me interview with her.And thanks again Becky for great classes, to come all this way to Sweden and for letting me interview you!Enjoy everybody! :)Ciza interviews Becky Higgins
