With 2024 almost here, the Pixels and Ink crew take some time to look back and remember some of the most impactful moments that shaped gaming going forward. From the incredible set of releases that are gobbling up everyone's time to the heartbreaking series of layoffs, this year won't be soon forgotten. Brendan, Jordan and Chris also take some time to remember some of their personal favourite games and look back on some of the personally impactful memories. With events now back on and no shortage of newsworthy moments, this is your perfect podcast to wrap up the year in gaming that was 2023.
With over 100 million people tuning in, the Game Awards once again proved to be one of the biggest nights in gaming. But with so many eyes on the event, has the focus on what an awards show should be about been lost? This is the question that the Pixels and Ink podcast tackles this week as the panel of Brendan, Jordan, and Chris dives into what the show means to gaming, what was done right, and what could be improved for next year's show. As if that were not enough, the cast also dives into the winners, discusses some of the big announcements from this year's show, and dissects what the categories mean and if there are games that are unfairly paired in ways that do not help their change.
The Pixels and Ink gang gathered around the virtual campfire this week to discuss the highlights and snubs of this year's Game Awards. They agreed that this year's line-up was solid, with many titles well worth playing. Touching on what made last year's winner Elden Ring such a dark horse entry, they delve into all the titles on this year's shortlist, including Resident Evil 4 Remake, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Balder's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While it's hard to say who will walk away with this year's big prize, the crew dives into the arguments for each option and why they're worth your time. From everyone thinking that Resident Evil 4 Remake was an odd inclusion to the fact that Balder's Gate 3 has a strong case to walk away with some major accolades, this is shaping up to be an exciting night in gaming. As if that were not enough, Jordan and Brendan delve into the sad state of the Silent Hill franchise and the hopes that Silent Hill 2 Remake can revive the legendary horror franchise.
With Halloween just around the corner, the Pixels and Ink crew dive into all things autumn game releases, with a nice dash of horror thrown in for good measure. From the latest reviews of games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder to an in-depth look at Alan Wake 2 and what made it so exciting, this is one podcast you won't want to miss. To bring the magic of autumn, Jordan, Brendan and Chris are joined by Justin Wood to ensure we know everything we need about the darkness lurking in Bright Falls. It's going to be a full show for everyone, so sit back, grab a nice cup of coffee and let's dig in.
CGMagazine is back this week with The Pixels & Ink Podcast Episode 432, and we are switching things up! This episode is all about conventions! After returning from Lucca, Italy, for Lucca Comics & Games, Dayna and Brendan reflect on the event, and it inspires a conversation about conventions as a whole. Brendan, Dayna, Chris and Jordan then discuss their first conventions, like Niagara Falls Comic Con, Anime North and more. The team has also been to some less-than-conventional conventions, but we will let you listen to find out which ones! The cast rounds out the podcast with some of their dream conventions, like PAX West, Tokyo Game Show, gamescom and discusses some of their favourite convention moments like interactions with the Sons of Anarchy cast, karaoke at Anime North, Star Wars interviews and killer demonstrations at Lucca Comics & Games.
This week CGM presents The Pixels & Ink Podcast with Brendan, Chris, Dayna and Jordan. The cast gives a quick—or not—rundown of where everyone has been. Jordan has been power-binging shows for review, like Loki Season 2. Chris took on the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 preview in LA with Sony. Brendan hung out with Intel in Malaysia. Dayna and Brendan headed to Iceland again for EVE Fanfest and had a great time learning about EVE Vanguard. Dayna saw something top-secret while Brendan covered some cool Nintendo previews like WarioWare: Move It! And finally, Dayna and Brendan got to check out Ubisoft Montreal for the Assassin's Creed Mirage launch! Now that they're all back in person, it's time to catch up on what everyone's been playing. To no one's surprise, Jordan had some thoughts on the Nintendo Direct from a few weeks back, and Dayna won't shut up about Fae Farm. But mostly TV has taken over Jordan's life with Loki, Fionna & Cake and Castlevania. Chris just finished up Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless and is currently working on his Marvel's Spider-Man 2 review, so no comment! On this week's Pixels & Ink Podcast, the team chats about Starfield and all the ups and downs of reviewing the title ahead of its August 31 embargo. Justin and Dayna have spent two weeks hands-on with Starfield, and though they believe the beginning was rocky, it pulls through to make it one of our top games of 2023 so far. From there, the cat talks about the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and wonders how the festival will work while actors and writers are rightfully still on strike. Dayna and Justin attended Fan Expo Canada, where actors could still attend but were unable to discuss their work, and Chris headed to London, Ontario, to check out TennoCon and learn more about Warframe and Soulframe. They finish off with a quick rundown of upcoming events, including Dayna's Forza Motorsport preview that she just came back from New York for, which you can expect on September 11th, our newest issue, The Summer of Gaming 2023, Eve Online Fan Fest and some top-secret previews to come! Avoiding major spoilers, the crew discusses everything from what is new and exciting about the game to dispelling misconceptions about the series and what FF XVI brings to the table. As if that wasn't enough, the latest Nintendo Direct took place this week, so the crew took some time to break down the biggest announcements and look at what made the selection of releases so exciting or disappointing, as the case may be. With over 20 games announced during the Direct, there was a lot to digest, and the whole crew had plenty to say about the biggest titles making their way to Nintendo Switch.

On this very spooky edition of Pixes and Ink, the crew is joined by Cody Orme, as they dive into all the exciting news and events of the week. This was a big week for Horror, as both Silent Hill and Resident Evil have streams showing off all the new things coming two both iconic franchises. Things don't stop there, though, with the Bayonetta 3 voice over situation still raging on, with a back-and-forth between Hellena Taylor and the studio. With Overwatch 2 now out in the wild, the crew also dives into the launch, the review and how the game is looking now that people are playing.

This week on the Men at the Movies podcast, Paul McDonald and Steven Falletti talk about Minority Report. Systems might change our behavior, but they won't change our heart. What will we do when the systems we depend on fail? Those failures bring us face-to-face with the divine: will you receive healing and love by letting go, or end up with a halo in hell holding on to a broken system? Everybody runs—so lets run to discover God's truth in movie. About Steven Faletti Steven Faletti, aka SMFreehand, has been writing fiction since he was in the fourth grade (when he was obsessed with Goosebumps and Animorphs), he and a friend started writing a collection of short ‘scary' stories. He continued honing his writing skills haphazardly until his late 20s, when he realized he had a passion that desired to be cultivated. He began getting involved in writing groups, eventually leading his own called Tea & Ink Writing group, which later gave birth to the Brew & Ink Podcast. He has two books from his Sci-Fi series in the works as well two from a Fantasy series that are works in progress. www.brewandink.com www.facebook.com/BrewandInk Insta: @brewandink Twitter @brew_ink Questions How do you balance between God's sovereignty and our personal choice? It is a big week for leaks, with Diablo IV and GTA 6 videos appearing online. With this the CGMagzine crew dissect what these leaks mean, how the games are looking and what this means for development. This leads to a bigger discussion about embargoes, how some creators try and break agreements, and how there has been a major series of events that makes many people in the industry question how insider information really gets out to the public. While there may be plenty of leaks, Twitch.TV is making waves this week with the new rules about gambling, and a mix-up in how it shares revenue on the platform. Moving away from a more favourable split, into a 50/50 model that has many bigger creators very upset. To wrap things up for the week, the crew look at all the new peripherals that are coming out, and how they at times can cost more than the consoles or the games they are meant to work with. From $1000+ racing wheels, to high-end controllers, it is an interesting time to invest in gaming.
With the fall now here, TIFF is back, and so are the many movies that come to the festival. With Brendan and Dayna both on site for the festival, they join the cast to discuss the best and brightest that people should look out for. They also discuss how some films they walked in excited about managed to let them down in different ways. But TIFF did not dominate the news this week, with both PlayStation's State of Play, and the Nintendo Direct releasing a range of news that should excite gamers everywhere. From news about Golden Eye making its way to modern consoles, to the details about God of War Ragnarök, this is a cast you won't want to miss if you are excited for all the new games coming this fall.

Now that gamescom is over, Eduard joins Jordan, Dayna, Chris and Brendan to break down all the big announcements, previews and spectacle that made up this year's show. From the countless games that line the massive convention centre, to the crowds and publishers flooding one of the biggest in-person gaming events since the pandemic, this show was one to be remembered. Beyond the talk of gamescom, the crew took some time to talk about the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power along with The House of the Dragon and how these massive shows are shaping the landscape of streaming moving into the fall. To round things off, with the summer now coming to a close, the crew look back at the games that were released, and how even though the months are normally slow, this has been a monumental time for gaming, both indie and AAA.

With the release of Stray on PC and PlayStation consoles, the debate about how a game's story should be told has started once again. Many people love to be completely immersed in the experience, with others wanting to ensure the option to be handheld as they work through the experience does not go away. In the latest episode of the Pixels and Ink Podcast, Eduard, Dayna, Chris and Brendan dive into the topic and see what really makes sense going forward. Beyond this, the news of the full TIFF 2022 lineup is finally here, so the crew takes some time to delve into the list, how the festival is different this year, and what we all hope to see as in-person events are slowly coming back.

With episode 400 now here, the CGMagazine crew talk about the years of the magazine, and what were some of the most memorable moments up to this point. Chris, Dayna, Brendan and Jordan reminisce about the many gaming announcements, special guests, and news stories covered over the many years they have all been working together. If that were not enough, the crew sit down and dissect the recent announcements from James Cameron about movie length, the new games coming to PS Plus, the latest antics from Ubisoft, and the excitement of Amazon Prime Day.
On this week's Pixels & Ink Podcast: Brendan, Chris, Dayna and Jordan sit down to talk streaming services like Netflix, Xbox Game Pass and Disney+, Canada Day and some of their favourite Canadia media and game devs. It turns out that some major players in the game industry are Canadian! WB Games Montréal is currently developing the new Gotham Knights and were previously responsible for Batman: Arkham Origins. This year, the newly created Haven Studios in Montréal announced that they are developing a "AAA multiplayer experience". All of that doesn't even touch on studios like Bioware, Yellow Brick Games or even countless indies created in our own backyard. Streaming services were next up on the docket, and the team had some strong opinions, mainly "they own us". Starting off with movie and TV services like Netflix, Crave, AMC+, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV, they clearly found out just how deep the streaming hole goes. Factoring in their console subscriptions, game subscriptions, even music and underwear subscriptions, this conversation went on a while. The last love letter to Canada was surrounding Canadian media. Being Canada Day, it only made sense,. The cast discussed the number of Canadians in the limelight, even some that surprised them. They also touch on Canadian filming locations like St Catharines in A Christmas Story, or Toronto for The Boys, The Umbrella Academy and so many more, since it is "little New York".
Sequels, remakes and re-releases are dominating the sales charts, but is that a good thing? On this week's Pixels and Ink, Brendan, Chris, Dayna and David explore what these releases in movies and games do for the industry, and are they good for fans. Is it always better to release a new entry in an existing series, or is it sometimes good to go outside the box and see what new concepts could be explored. Even with the year being dominated by sequels and re-releases, there are still some amazing titles both in movies and games that are worth everyone's time. For the second segment, the crew discuss some of the best of 2022 so far, looking at the best and must experience titles that may have slipped through the cracks.
