In this episode of The Filmumentaries Podcast, I'm joined by filmmaker John Campopiano and producer Jim Beller to talk about their new documentary, The Farmer and the Shark. The film centres on Craig Kingsbury, a farmer from Martha's Vineyard who appeared in Jaws (1975), playing Ben Gardner, the local fisherman whose abandoned boat is discovered by Chief Brody early in the film. From that small but unforgettable role, the documentary explores Craig's life, his connection to the island, and how his story intersects with the legacy of Jaws. John Campopiano is the director of the film and is known for documentaries including Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary and Pennywise: The Story of IT. Jim Beller is one of the producers of The Farmer and the Shark - former producer of my Inside Jaws - A Filmumentary and all round Jaws expert.I should note that I haven't seen the finished film yet, so this conversation focuses on the making of the documentary, how the project came together, why Craig Kingsbury's story stood out, earning trust, and shaping a film around a real person whose life briefly intersected with a cinematic landmark. If you're looking for a calm, thoughtful conversation about film history, storytelling, and the people behind the scenes, I hope this episode provides a welcome distraction. Send us a textJust when you thought October was safe again... it's another franchise!!This year, Pete is hunting for the sequels to one of the greatest movies of all time, Jaws! Somehow, this cinema classic got not only one, but three sequels. And one of them is even a requel, starting well before Halloween made that its defining feature.Jaws 2, from 1978, is a mix of the classic Jaws formula and the then-budding slasher genre. This one features a ton of teenagers stranded in a remote location getting picked off one by one. And this time, the vengeful shark even has a horribly scarred face like all the slasher greats. The Brody family returns from the first film, as does the slimy mayor of Amity. Somehow, the local government STILL does not take Chief Brody seriously when he cries shark. However, no Quint and no Hooper means this movie only has a third of the charm as its predecessor.Join us as we discuss new shark lore, how explosive a water ski can be, the comfortability of love-making in a boat, and whether fish can truly seek revenge.Grab your life preserver, load your harpoon gun, and most importantly, don't get too scared!

Dana and Tom with returning guests Klarissa (I've Seen That One (IG)) and Ralph Esparza (Film Producer) re-revisit Jaws (1975) for its 50th Anniversary: directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb, cinematography by Bill Butler, score by John Williams, starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss.Plot Summary: Jaws is a masterclass in cinematic suspense, a film that grips the audience with primal fear and refuses to let go. Directed with surgical precision by a young Steven Spielberg, it tells the story of a seaside town terrorized by a great white shark—an unseen menace that lurks beneath the surface both literally and metaphorically. Roy Scheider's Chief Brody, caught between political pressure and his own conscience, anchors the human drama, while Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw provide texture as a scientist and a grizzled fisherman, respectively. But the real triumph of Jaws is its restraint. The mechanical shark's frequent malfunctions forced Spielberg to show less, and in doing so, he created more: more tension, more imagination, more terror. John Williams' iconic score doesn't just accompany the action—it is the shark. What emerges is not just a thriller, but a work of art that understands the mechanics of fear and the anatomy of heroism. It's not about a shark; it's about the people who must confront it—and, by extension, themselves.Guests:KlarissaI've Seen That One (IG)Previously on Roman Holiday (1953) RevisitRalph Esparza (Film Producer)Credited on Tollbooth, Mad House, Killer Date, An Occasional Hell, and One Degree Celcius@ralph_esparza on IGPreviously on Magnolia (1999)Chapters:00:00 Introduction and Welcome Back Klarissa and Ralph03:11 Relationship(s) with Jaws15:34 Cast of Jaws16:32 Why Doesn't Jaws Seem to Age as Much as Its Comtemporaries?23:23 What is Jaws About?33:07 Background for Jaws38:33 Jaws Success - Accident or Genius?40:35 Plot Summary for Jaws42:05 Did You Know?45:51 First Break46:48 What's Happening with Klarissa and Ralph49:38 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy52:20 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance54:22 The Stanley Rubric - Novelty59:24 Second Break01:00:07 The Stanley Rubric - Classicness01:06:28 The Stanley Rubric - Rewatchability01:15:15 The Stanley Rubric - Audience Score and Final Total01:17:57 In Memoriam01:19:55 Remaining Questions for Jaws01:33:22 Thank You to Klarissa and Ralph01:35:30 CreditsYou can also find this episode in full video on YouTube. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter,

Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, turns 50 this month. Chief Brody, played by Roy Scheider, is pulled in multiple directions after a fatal shark attack, and subsequent murders, none of which the town's local leaders take seriously. When Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss, comes into the picture, the two of them unite with the hope of getting to the bottom of the situation, with factual, scientific accuracy in mind. Hooper and Brody as outsiders, not locals, eventually team up with Robert Shaw's Quint to hunt down the shark, and end the beast's terror. Lisa Lake, a killer designer, awesome photographer, and drone pilot, vividly remembers seeing Jaws in the theatre and hadn't seen it since then, but she re-watched it for this episode.-With over twenty years of creative experience, Lisa Lake is a photographer, graphic designer, and drone pilot who delivers marketing and advertising, logos and dynamic websites, ad campaigns, pro-level photography, and video. In this first episode in a two part special edition, we look back at one of the most horrifying stories of all of World War 2, the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. This was the story made famous by a scene in the movie "JAWS" when the fictional Captain Quint relives his time in the water with Chief Brody and Matt Hooper.  It is used to explain the character's almost maniacal hunting of sharks.  That is totally understandable when you learn the real story from the survivors who lived through this nightmare. We move you in this episode from finally finding the ship at the bottom of the Philippine Sea to looking at how our  selected survivors ended up on the ship, to the night it went down and left them stranded in the water for five nights and four days.  They were stranded in the deepest area of the Pacific Ocean infested with the most aggressive of deep water predators, As Captain Quint said,  " by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men. I don't know how many sharks there were, maybe a thousand. I don't know how many men, they averaged six an hour." It is an extraordinary story , that captures in one tale the price our nation has often had to pay to be free. Our Podcast wished to recognize the veterans whose oral history and interviews we used to tell this story, all but one are now deceased : Edgar Harrell, Art Leenerman, Don McCall, Earl Wiggins, San Gabriel, Adolfo Celaya, and Harold Bray, (Mr. Bray is the lone survivor that is still living as of this production. ) JAWS Credit :Universal Pictures(United States, 1975)(Universal, An MCA Company, theatrical)Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine GaryJaws [Original Score] by John Williams released in 1975Listen to The Compass of PowerAnd ask where the politicians are coming from.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Questions or comments at , Randalrgw1@aol.com , https://twitter.com/randal_wallace , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

Second Breakfast with Cam & Maggie

For this week's Summerween, we're looking at an all-time classic. Jaws is the ultimate summer horror film, but after rewatching it, we also think it takes a quiet tour through some of our favorite horror subgenres. There's a horror sensibility running through everything here, from the crafty script that overwhelms you with doomed mentors, to the legendary score and paranoid editing. And at the center of it all lies Chief Brody, who strikes us now as an updated George Bailey from It's A Wonderful Life, and a shortcut into this film's similarly glorious anti-capitalist messaging. Last but not least, the shark is terrifying.   [As mentioned in the episode] The word "summerween" is not our invention, but one we've seen used across the internet for various Halloween/autumnal/horror content in the summer months. Maggie first heard the term from allisonpaiges on YouTube, who participates in the Summwerween read-a-thon hosted by gabbyreads and and oliviareadsalatte on YouTube. So today, we are re-releasing our episode on Steven Spielberg's Jaws, with a new intro. Chief Brody moved to the remote island community of Amity to get away from the horrors of urban life. However, his plans for a fresh start are derailed when horrifically mangled bodies begin washing up on the sea shore. Based on the evidence, Brody reaches a conclusion that nobody on the island wants to hear: the town is being terrorised by a Great White Shark. At time of recording the new intro, it ranked 206th on the list of the best movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.
