AI has long dominated ag industry headlines—but turning it from concept into day-to-day agronomic practice requires far more than a product launch. In this episode of Ag Tech Talk, FS Agronomy Director Brendan Bachman of GROWMARK breaks down the operational reality behind scaling AI across one of North America's largest cooperative systems, from building data infrastructure to navigating the complexities of a federated organization. Rather than positioning AI as a disruption, Bachman describes it as a practical layer within existing workflows - one aimed at reducing friction and helping crop specialists make faster, more informed in-season decisions. The discussion highlights the less visible work of adoption: aligning systems, earning grower trust, and driving buy-in across FS locations, while tools like MyFS Agronomy increasingly reshape - not replace - the agronomist's role in the field.

This month on Laura Flanders and Friends, we're revisiting conversations around work, workers, and the Labor Movement on the Move. This week we explore how the folks at The People's Network for Land & Liberation (PNLL) are building for the future in the midst of the crisis facing us now. They say the forces that got us here are bigger than one bad leader; entire systems must be taken down. This show is made possible by you! After decades of flat electricity demand, the U.S. power sector is suddenly racing to keep up—and rural electric cooperatives are on the front lines. In this episode of The POWER Podcast, Jim Matheson, CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), joins executive editor Aaron Larson to discuss how roughly 900 co-ops serving 42 million people across 48 states are navigating surging data center load, supply chain pressures, and a shifting regulatory landscape. Matheson explains what makes the co-op model distinctive—not-for-profit, consumer-owned, and locally governed—and why affordability isn't a talking point but an operational imperative for utilities that serve 92% of America's persistent poverty counties. He then digs into the generation debate, drawing a key distinction between always-available sources like coal, gas, and nuclear, and intermittent resources like wind and solar, and makes the case for local flexibility over federal one-size-fits-all mandates. Other topics covered in the conversation include: • Why Matheson believes viable power plants shouldn't be retired before replacement capacity is in place. • The long-term outlook for nuclear, the status of small modular reactors, and a notable Michigan plant restart driven by two co-ops. • Where energy storage fits today—and what a true long-duration breakthrough would unlock. • How global supply chain pressures and tariffs are driving up costs on everything from turbines to meters. • NRECA's 2026 policy priorities, including EPA rule rollbacks, permitting reform, raising the USDA Rural Utilities Service lending cap, and FEMA reform. • The contractual and operational complexity of onboarding hyperscale data center loads, and why existing consumers shouldn't subsidize them. • How roughly 200 co-ops are now bringing broadband to underserved rural areas—a modern echo of 1930s rural electrification. Whether you're tracking the AI-driven load boom, policy developments in Washington, or the unique role cooperatives play in the U.S. electric sector, this conversation offers a clear-eyed view from someone who represents member-owned utilities covering 54% of the nation's land mass.
Co-operatives have a long and sometimes colored history in agriculture, across the Western world. What role will they play in the future of agriculture? As agriculture becomes increasingly shaped by digital technologies and artificial intelligence, the question of who owns, governs, and benefits from farm data is still unresolved. Could co-ops be the answer? In this episode, Sarah Nolet is joined by Tenacious Ventures co-founder Matthew Pryor and the creator of Upstream Ag Insights, Shane Thomas, to explore the history of co-operatives as a means for farmers to pool resources and address market power imbalances. They also unpack the business model behind co-ops and analyze whether the principles of co-ops could also be applied to digital infrastructure. This episode is the first in a series of business model “breakdown” episodes we'll be producing this year, where we'll dig into how agriculture systems, structures, and even specific companies work, why they matter today, and the impact of agtech in their evolution. This format is an experiment and we'd love your feedback! Sarah, Matthew, and Shane discuss: Why agricultural cooperatives emerged and how they address power imbalances in agricultural markets. How the cooperative model could extend from physical infrastructure to digital infrastructure and farm data governance. Whether co-ops could serve as trusted intermediaries for training AI models using aggregated farm data. How governance tensions between different types of farmers might play out in a data-driven future. How consolidation of cooperatives and changing farm structures could shape the future of technology adoption. Got a business model you'd like for us to break down in a future episode? Let us know! Formula 1 is officially back — and the 2026 season kicked off with a chaotic and fascinating Australian Grand Prix.In this episode of the Everything Trackside Podcast, Seán, Coops, James, and Mairéad break down everything from the season opener in Melbourne. George Russell took the victory in a race packed with overtakes and strategy battles, while Ferrari once again managed to become their own worst enemies on race day. The team also dives into one of the biggest talking points of the weekend — the new engine regulations. Qualifying in particular sparked major debate, with drivers losing huge speed on straights due to energy harvesting and downshifting mid-straight, something many fans and drivers found frustrating to watch. Despite the qualifying controversy, the race itself delivered plenty of action, with over 120 overtakes compared to just 45 last year, showing that the new era of Formula 1 might still produce exciting racing. The crew also rate the race, discuss the biggest winners and losers from the weekend, debate whether the new regulations need fixing, and look ahead to next week's Chinese Grand Prix.Checkout this amazing video of Lynda Britten - https://youtu.be/kdkXVmnjSI0

Electric co-ops are grappling with rising costs, but members are in no mood for rate hikes. Load growth can help, but it's not without risks. In this episode of the Power Plays podcast, S&P Global's David Bodek and CoBank credit leader Rob Galena take a hard look at the landscape and map out co-op financial flexibility.

In New York City real estate, few decisions generate more confusion or more debate than the choice between a condo and a co-op. On paper, the differences seem straightforward. In reality, buyers quickly discover that this decision touches everything from lifestyle and financing to governance, resale flexibility, and long-term value. Condos offer autonomy, liquidity, and fewer restrictions, but often at a premium. Co-ops, which still dominate much of the city's housing stock, can provide more space and value, yet come with board scrutiny, financial disclosures, and rules that can surprise even seasoned buyers. So why, in 2026, are buyers still struggling with this choice? Is it about control versus community? Flexibility versus stability? Or simply understanding how these two ownership models actually work in today's market? Today, we're breaking down the real-world trade-offs between condos and co-ops in New York City—what buyers need to know, what they often misunderstand, and how to make the right decision for their goals, not just their budget. The energy grid is facing a challenge unlike anything we've seen before.Think about this: one Virginia co-op has over 20 GW of demand in its queue. That's more than the energy demand of New York City. As electrification and data center expansion accelerate, public power and electric co-ops are on the front lines of solving this surge.Electric cooperatives and public utilities are facing a wave of electrification, data center load, and manufacturing demand that rivals the size of major cities. That's what major power providers are up against — but they're not backing down. This Tactical Tuesday episode is your front-row seat to a high-stakes, high-impact conversation hosted by Sheri Givens, CEO of SEPA. She's joined by two utility leaders tackling today's fastest-growing energy challenges while maintaining reliability, affordability, and equity. They deliver on active solutions - from smart customer programs to creative tariff structures and innovative infrastructure partnerships.Expect to learn:
Data center development is surging to meet demand for cloud applications, cryptocurrency, streaming services and AI. Electric co-ops are at the center of it, with some fielding multiple new requests at a time to serve data centers. These large loads can benefit co-ops and their communities in a number of ways—and they also pose a host of challenges. Og over hele landet. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
#320Today on the Clean Power Hour, Brandon Wagoner, Vice President of Strategy at Middle Tennessee Electric, explains how the second largest cooperative in America manages explosive EV adoption, deploys 32 megawatts of battery storage, and builds 113 megawatts of solar arrays while keeping rates low. His secret weapon: load factor optimization.Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) serves 350,000 meters south and east of Nashville and leads Tennessee utilities in electric vehicle adoption. As the largest co-op in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) service territory, MTE operates through strategic partnerships rather than vertical integration, working directly with TVA to solve generation and distribution challenges together.Key Discussion Points:• Load factor optimization as the primary metric for grid infrastructure decisions and rate management• 32 megawatts of two-hour battery storage deployment scheduled for Q1 2026 across their service territory• 3.25 MW tracking solar array operational, with 110 MW TVA solar project launching in 2028• Night Flex rate program incentivizing EV charging during six six-hour overnight windows• Community solar programs serving renters and members without rooftop installation options• Pro Solar advisory team provides trusted third-party guidance for members evaluating solar developers• Strategic approach to serving diverse demographics from high-income first adopters to conservative rural members• Co-op structure enables focus on member service rather than shareholder profits• Partnership model with TVA replaces traditional utility customer relationship• Programmatic rebates, including $50 EV charger installation incentivesConnect with Brandon WagonerWebsite: https://mte.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/midtnelectric/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/charles-brandon-wagoner-pe-2822146/ Support the showConnect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. For decades, we've been told that high performance is about gathering the brightest stars—the so-called “super chickens”—onto one team and watching the magic happen. But what if this approach is exactly what's holding us back? In this episode, we challenge the myth of the lone genius and superstar culture, inspired by the research of evolutionary biologist William Muir and our guest, Jon Levy, author of Team Intelligence. We dig into why the true driver of organizational excellence isn't the brilliance of any one leader or individual, but the collective effectiveness of the team. Jon shares surprising findings from research on team dynamics, showing that stellar individual credentials often don't correlate with high-performing teams—and sometimes even torpedo them. Together, we explore what makes teams “intelligent,” the concept of bursty communication, and the underappreciated power of “glue players”—team members who multiply the effectiveness of everyone around them, often quietly and behind the scenes. If you've ever found yourself thinking, “We have the right people, so why aren't we clicking?”, this conversation gives you an entirely new framework for team effectiveness. It's not about outshining one another; it's about amplifying each other.Five Key Learnings:The Super Chicken Fallacy: Prioritizing only high-performing individuals can lead to toxic rivalry and stifle collaboration, ultimately reducing the team's overall output.Fluid Leadership: Effective teams allow leadership to flow based on expertise, not title—leadership shifts to those best suited to solve the problem at hand.Emotional Intelligence Matters Most: The best predictor for team effectiveness is the group's collective emotional intelligence, not the average or highest IQ.Glue Players Are Multipliers: Certain team members—rarely the stars—can significantly raise the performance of those around them by prioritizing team success, facilitating communication, and demonstrating forward-thinking.Aligned Incentives Create Real Teamwork: Misaligned incentives that reward only individual performance sow competition; when incentives support team outcomes, collective intelligence and output flourish.Get full interviews and bonus content for free!
