Kimi Raikkonen's suspension failure on the final lap of the 2005 European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring is one of the iconic images of that season. On this episode of Bring Back V10s, Glenn Freeman is joined by Mark Hughes and Ben Anderson to look back at how close Raikkonen and McLaren came to hanging on in front of Fernando Alonso, and all the factors that led to Kimi nursing a badly flat-spotted tyre almost all the way to the finish. They also take a closer look at Ferrari's struggles that year, including a surprising admission from Michael Schumacher, plus the spat he was having with team-mate Rubens Barrichello coming out of the previous race in Monaco. There was tension elsewhere in the paddock as well, with Jacques Villeneuve in trouble with his boss Peter Sauber, and BMW denying rumours it was about to buy Sauber as its strained relationship with Williams was coming to an end.On track, BMW and Williams enjoyed a rare high spot with Nick Heidfeld claiming his only F1 pole and converting that into a podium, there was another tweak to the one-shot qualifying format, and BAR cheekily tried to replace its engines early on returning from a two-race ban.Plus - how David Coulthard threw away a potential first F1 podium for Red Bull, and Jarno Trulli's bizarre claim that he could have won this race!Want MORE BBV10s?

Seven-time Grand Prix winner Juan Pablo Montoya joins Tom Clarkson for the first episode of F1 Beyond The Grid's LEGENDS episodes. Going into the final two races of 2003, Montoya was only three points behind World Championship leader Michael Schumacher in a three-way fight for the title, with Kimi Raikkonen just behind them. But by the season finale, the Colombian was out of contention – so where did it all go wrong? Juan Pablo reflects on the highs of his wins at Monaco and Hockenheim that year, the lows of his championship-ending collision with Rubens Barrichello, and whether there was anything he could have done differently to become World Champion. Montoya also discusses whether he treated Michael differently to other drivers on track and addresses their famous incident at Imola in 2004. He explains how he got the better of teammate Ralf Schumacher, why he couldn't be friends with his rivals, and much more. Plus, Juan's son Sebastian drops by to talk about his Formula 3 ambitions this year, what it's like having an ex-F1 driver as his dad, and the best piece of advice JPM has given him.
“You just think there's no way I could be good enough.” When Sam Michael arrived in F1, he worried he wouldn't be able to keep up. But he became an influential and experienced leader at two of the sport's biggest teams. From a race engineer at Jordan in the late 1990s, to senior director roles at both Williams and McLaren in the 2000s, Sam enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top before leaving F1 in 2014. Speaking to Tom Clarkson, he reflects on more than two decades in the pinnacle of motorsport and reveals the people who influenced his life the most. Sam shares fascinating insight into some of the big names he's worked with; Lewis Hamilton, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Rubens Barrichello to name a few. He explains the characteristics that separate the greatest racers from the rest, how he made drivers take a test to understand their knowledge of cars, what he misses about F1 and much more. ¿Recordáis la famosa frase “Fernando is faster than you”? GP de Turquía, 2010. Red Bull.

My Guest today I and met during my first season in Turks in summer of 1994, but his first season was in Club Med Cancun in July of 1988 as Aide Gestion. Everyone, please help me welcome, Steve Cohn! Before Club Med, Steve attended Georgetown University and obtained a degree in International Finance. After his graduation, Steve went backpacking in Europe and met a few G.O.s on vacation that told him about Club Med. He applied to Club Med (by first calling 1-800 Club Med!) when he got home from his trip and asked to be an Excursions G.O. in his interview. His first season in Cancun was cut short due to Hurricane Gilbert, but he went on to work in many amazing villages from 1988 to 2006. In fact, we only covered a small fraction of the villages he worked in during this interview. We talked about his time in Sandpiper, Arziv, Wengen, Bali, and Itaparica, to name but a few. Steve also met his fair share of famous people as well: 90's model Ashley Richardson, French Open champion Yannick Noah, former world No. 1 tennis player Monica Seles and eleven-time F1 Grand Prix winner, Rubens Barrichello. As you can imagine, Steve has a lot of stories to tell, but my favorite would have to be when he exchanged English lessons for Lambada lessons with his future wife in Itaparica (before you flip out, it was her idea!). Steve is also the longest-serving American G.O. in his position (Gestionnaire) in the history of Club Med. I hope you all enjoy this trip down memory lane like we did. **My First Season podcast has always been free to listen to and is available on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora, Podchaser and Listen Notes.
