Every year, we love to celebrate the holiday season with our listeners, and there is no better way to do that than with our 2025 Holiday Special! It all started 10 years ago with a random idea: we were big fans of holiday specials, yet podcasts seemed to skip over the idea completely. Therefore, we decided we can do whatever we want here at The Hollywood Outsider, so let's create our own tradition and the Annual Holiday Special was born! Every year we rekindle the past (and occasionally add a little something new), assembling some of the best moments from our hosts for the most fantastic holiday special ever! Debating what constitutes a Christmas movie and specials we love, what makes for a great Christmas movie, Christmas cliches, and even our Holiday Spirit Movie Battle Royale! That's not all, oh no. The Christmas spirit kicks into overdrive as we open up and share our personal memories of the holiday season, stories that remind us of Christmas. And no holiday special would be complete without a visit from the big man himself, so get ready for as much St. Nick as legally allowed as Santa Claus drops by the studio to tell us just how naughty or nice we are, all throughout the episode! With a special game from Amanda, Santa in his sleigh, John's obsession with puppets, Troy's intriguing selection of Holiday Spirit films, Scott's first Christmas Poem, Bad Santa, and a lot of fun for everyone – This is the one podcast you don't want to miss this holiday season!

Merry Christmas you beautiful people. It's a packed show and we start off with with our exciting new quiz Santa Banter. I describe a situation and you have to work out the rhyme. I bought it at the car boot sale and I'm testing it on you lucky people... probably only this once.Next up is Bob Baker with Do You Hear What I Hear and he's look at 'pants'. Bob's done the research and it's pretty darn interesting. Then we take a look at Cozy Little Christmas by Katy Perry. It was a question in last week's quiz, and I thought I'd never heard of it, turns out I had and it's not as obscure as I thought. Plus the video is fun.Have a watch here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg8Gk1iXEIsAfter that it's this episode's version of A Christmas Carol and it is not very good at all. It's called "Mrs Scrooge, A Christmas Poem" by Carol Ann Duffy, and it's a modern take on the legend telling us what happened to Scrooge's widow.I read it so you don't have to.Then Bob is back with Spread A Smile Of Joy and it was suggested by yours truly. Why not tidy up your local area with a bit of litter picking, you'll feel great and your neighbours will be pleased as well.Check out Bob's pod here:https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/Last week we looked at the history of Christmas trees, this week we're looking at the history of one particular tree, perhaps the world's most famous Christmas tree, the one at the Rockefeller centre. 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house / Not a creature was stirring, not even a...FRAUD!? In this episode, Jacke dives into the dispute over one of the most famous Christmas poems of all time, "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (also known as "The Night Before Christmas" or "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"). Long attributed to the somewhat curmudgeonly figure Clement C. Moore, new research has called that authorship into question. Does ANOTHER Christmas poem by Moore unlock the mystery? PLUS History of Literature superguest Marion Turner (Chaucer, a European Life; The Wife of Bath: A Biography) stops by to discuss her choice for the last book she will ever read. Greg reads a Christmas poem, then he answers questions about being required to ask patients for their pronouns and “sex assigned at birth,” a biblical perspective on extreme sports and dealing with the pitfalls of fame in a sports career, and whether people need to hear the gospel to be saved. Welcome to a special episode of "A Medic's Mind," where I'm thrilled to share a personal favorite, "A Soldier's Christmas Poem." As Christmas approaches, we're reminded of the poignant sacrifices and the unspoken stories of those who serve. This episode is not just a recitation; it's a heartfelt tribute to the bravery and resilience of soldiers, especially during the festive season. In this episode, I delve deep into the evocative lines of "A Soldier's Christmas Poem." The poem paints a vivid picture of a solitary soldier on Christmas Eve, offering a stark contrast to the usual festive cheer. It's a reminder of the quiet, often unseen sacrifices made by our military personnel. As I recite each line, you'll feel the chill of the cold night, the solemnity of the soldier's room, and the depth of gratitude and respect for these unsung heroes. Join me in this emotional journey as we explore themes of duty, sacrifice, and the true meaning of Christmas. It's a reflection on what it means to be a soldier during a time of peace and festivity. This episode is a tribute to our soldiers' dedication and a reminder of the freedoms we often take for granted. Tune in, reflect, and let's honor the brave men and women in uniform together. Share this episode with friends and family to spread the message of gratitude and remembrance this Christmas season. Remember to subscribe and leave a review if this episode resonates with you. Let's keep the conversation going. #ASoldiersChristmas #MilitaryTribute #ChristmasPoem #AMedicsMind --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/amedicsmind/message

I've got a fun one today - I'm talking about my favorite holiday drink, eggnog! My guest today is Trisha Barton, the A&E Dairy Marketing Manager and Egg Nog enthusiast. In my opinion, they make the absolute best eggnog, so I reached out to see if I could find out all about their product, history, and magic of NOG. We talk about A&E's history, how the nog is made (spoiler: Christmas magic!), some healthier alternatives to straight nog, and of course recipes! See the link below for more information. How often have you heard the question, "Are you ready for Christmas?" How do you respond? Do you base your readiness on whether your Christmas shopping is done? Cookies made? I must admit, in past years, I tended to gauge my readiness for Christmas on my shopping list--but not this year. This year feels a little different. Our entire home flooded in September, and we're still not back in it. I usually have a tree dressed to the nines by now and lighted garland adorning the entryways. Gifts wrapped, bagged, and tagged and cookies baking in the oven (well, the Pillsbury Dough Boy ones, and you can read about that here in my post, Confessions of a Faker Baker). This year? Not so much. At first, I feared the dreaded FOMO (fear of missing out) when I'd see all the beautiful Christmas tree photos plastered all over social media. Not being judgy, I usually plaster mine there too. But I realized what I feared most were my feelings. How would I feel about not putting up a real tree and not having a living room ready to put it up in? How would I feel about not decking the halls with boughs of holly? Then it hit me. I don't need a tree or boughs of holly--I have Jesus, and He is all I need. We hear the phrase "the reason for the season," and Jesus truly is our everything. God didn't give us a spirit of fear, and He makes it clear in 2 Timothy 1:7: "for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." Self-control--hmmm ... That's a fruit of the Spirit, and we've already received it when we are in Christ. So we can focus on what is really important this Christmas--the birth of our Savior, and because of His birth--we can accept Him and become children of God. We can celebrate because not only did Jesus put on flesh to dwell among us--He's coming back to get us. We'll be back in our home soon enough, and all will be good again. But even so, God is still good and hope is still ours because we have Jesus. Speaking of hope, I hope you enjoy this special episode where I read a Christmas poem and offer a Christmas prayer. If this season is a hard one--know that Jesus placed His joy in you that your joy may be complete. With a special game from Amanda, Santa in his sleigh, John's obsession with puppets, Scott's first Christmas Poem, and a lot of fun for everyone – This is the one podcast you don't want to miss this holiday season!
