Our North Pole Radio News report the other day about mail coming in to the North Pole about the Elf on the Shelf has resulted in an investigation and new discoveries about Elf on the Shelf. For years on SantaUpdate.com we have avoided questions about Elf on the Shelf because nobody really knew a lot about them. There is no official department at the North Pole that runs Elf on the Shelf and Santa himself has long denied any knowledge or association with Elf on the Shelf. After doing some digging, I've learned how this whole thing started long ago at the North Pole. In this new emergency episode of the North Pole Podcast I share that story and discuss what all this means for Santa, the North Pole and anyone who has an Elf on the Shelf. We invite you to listen to this discussion and weigh in with your own thoughts.
Send us a textOur kids recently started doing the Elf on the Shelf tradition with me, and it has completely changed their mornings. They don't think about anything else first except for that little mischevious elf. They can't wait to wake up and see what new thing he has gotten into. Their joy and excitement convicts me. What is my routine when I first wake up? Do I grab my phone? My coffee? Go back to sleep? Or are my first thoughts about God? Thanking him for this new day and asking him to direct me? Do I wake up joyful, reading to wake the dawn with praises? #SetYourMindAbovePodcast

This week's email comes from a DL who sounds less than enthusiastic about the magic of Elf-on-the-shelf... Naturally, Mr Whitehall agrees completely, but is there some advice from the other end of the sofa? Of course there is!You can email your questions, thoughts or problems to TheWitteringWhitehalls@gmail.comOr, perhaps you'd like to send a WhatsApp message or Voice note? Why not?! What's up Big Wigs, we're back and wrapping it up like Spotify did (us dirty) this week! We're recapping Thanksgiving in Jersey and Philadelphia, how family time was, how Anna's mom thinks she's a major VIP now, Andrea's tired out from her nephews... We're also learning about the new Jersey Shore Roast that was filmed in Atlantic City, Anna's got a Broadway recommendation for you this holiday season, and are we so proud of Luann on her Us Weekly cover?! You bet. We also discuss some funny stories from the past like when Anna's parents got her a bigger bed and she was sad about it, or how there's a new Elf On The Shelf and we're not into it, and were you surprised Whitney Leavitt is going to be in Chicago The Musical? This episode is full of funny takes - like should Staten Island be in NY or NJ? Were Andrea's leftover Nachos criminal or creative? Lastly... What did Spotify do to us this year!? Traumatic! It's all in here!! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

Welcome to our ✨Holiday Special✨! In an episode that is ostensibly about Elf On The Shelf (or Mensch On The Bench — for Sarah), we explore our collective annual search for meaning and self with the great Meaghan O'Connell, author of And Now We Have Everything and noted Elf On The Shelf apologist. Pressing items interrogated lightly include: Should Elf On The Shelf be a Dad thing? Does holiday magic necessarily include lying to our kids? What do we say when our kids ask if we're Santa? What is the true magic? How do we even know what we enjoy and what we don't in a season this busy, and should we take Miranda's recommendation to do a witchy ritual to remind ourselves? They have gift recommendations for every type of kid, from the sports obsessed (tickets to a game are always a win) to the young scientist (science kits like those from Kiwi Co. are sure to be a hit), they have ideas to help you make all the kiddos happy this season. But first: A listener has a very important question - how do they end the yearly (exhausting) tradition of the Elf on the Shelf. Is it possible to “kill” the elf while keeping holiday magic? Parenting can involve big ideas, public debates and the odd festive guilt trip - and this week, we’re tackling all three. The man who created Adolescence has a new idea for how dads can connect with their sons - it’s beautiful, but one of us hates it. Plus, Amelia dives into the kids party photo that’s divided Australia: can you really “bags” a park table? And finally, it’s Elf O’Clock. Monz realises she’s the last mum on earth without a tiny spy living in her house, and wonders aloud if there are some traditions that should just be left alone. Our recommendations:
