In this episode, host Kim Olver sits down with coach and human resources leader Josh Brumley for an honest, insightful conversation about building an internal coaching program, navigating the challenging shift from consultant to coach, and helping emerging supervisors lead with authenticity.Josh, a graduate of the Academy of Choice's 120-hour coaching program, shares how he used professional development funds to earn his certification and design a coaching initiative inside a university setting. He discusses the surprising challenges of transitioning from HR consultant to coach, the boundaries required to avoid slipping back into “just tell me what to do” consulting, and the delicate balance of honoring client goals while managing organizational expectations.Kim and Josh explore the pitfalls of internal coaching—especially how quickly a program can be misunderstood as disciplinary—and why framing coaching as a growth investment is crucial. Josh also reflects on the difference between managerial responsibility and coaching support, the risks of being asked to “fix” employees, and how leaders often avoid the difficult conversations that are rightfully theirs to navigate.Josh also highlights what he gained from the Academy of Choice program—from in-person instruction to mentorship hours—and how that foundation strengthened his coaching practice and leadership development approach. This thoughtful conversation offers valuable insight for HR professionals, aspiring coaches, and leaders who want to bring coaching into their workplace while preserving integrity, clarity, and client-centered practice.

Send us a textJulie Brumley is a domestic infant adoptee who was adopted seven weeks after birth in 1973, following four relinquishments during that time. Her birth mother had attempted to abort her twice, between 12 and 16 weeks of pregnancy. Julie only became fully aware of the influence of the primal trauma she experienced about three and a half years ago, though her journey began in 2010. At that time, a professor in her master's counseling program pointed out that unresolved issues related to her adoption could negatively affect others if left unaddressed. Since then, she has completed two rounds of EMDR therapy and started somatic work soon after. Over the past year and a half, she has been building a coaching program for adoptees, which she plans to launch at the end of the month.https://cominghometoself.co/revolutionhttps://www.pulledbytheroot.com/

Steve and Judy Skinner wanted to buy a haunted house. They'd been lifelong skeptics, but after a paranormal experience in Eureka Springs, they wanted to know more about the paranormal. As a doctor, Steve wanted to study and experience the paranormal properly, so he needed a “lab.” A place of their own, where nothing could be manipulated. And in 2018, they found just what they were looking for in the small town of Brumley, Missouri…the Haunted Castle House. They soon realized they had purchased a very active home. In fact, it's been called the “Most Haunted House in the Midwest.” Even on Realtor.com, the listing for the house said, “Buy it if you dare.” The house has seen lots of trauma, tragedy, and death…which could account for the apparitions, noises, knocks, voices, and all of the paranormal activity under its roof. Today on the Grave Talks, Part Two of our conversation about the Haunted Castle House with owner Dr. Steve Skinner.
