fWotD Episode 2818: Ada Wong Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 21 January 2025 is Ada Wong.Ada Wong is a character in Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan), a survival horror video game series created by the Japanese company Capcom. Ada was first mentioned in the original Resident Evil (1996), before being introduced as a supporting character and antiheroine in Resident Evil 2 (1998). The character was initially conceived as a researcher named Linda for the prototype of the second game, but her name was changed to Ada and she was rewritten as a spy and mercenary for the final build to connect its story to that of the original. Over the course of the series, Ada is often hired to steal biological weapons for various organizations, although she betrays her employers on numerous occasions to save protagonist Leon S. Kennedy from dire situations.Ada is featured in several Resident Evil games, novelizations, and films, and has also appeared in other game franchises such as Project X Zone, Teppen, and Dead by Daylight. Several actresses have portrayed the character. Sally Cahill, Courtenay Taylor, Jolene Andersen, and Lily Gao, among others, have provided Ada's voice for her video game and animated appearances, while Li Bingbing and Gao have played her in the live-action Resident Evil films.Critics have positively responded to Ada as a character, highlighting her intelligence and resourcefulness as her key personality traits. Several journalists have praised Ada's portrayal as a femme fatale, and cited her as an example of a female character who is as competent and skilled as her male counterparts. Due to Ada's Asian ethnicity, however, concerns that the character perpetuates the Orientalist trope of the "Dragon Lady" have also been raised. Ada's outfits—particularly her red dress from Resident Evil 4 (2005)—have been brought up in discussions pertaining to the male gaze and criticized for being overtly sexualized. Gao's performance as Ada in the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 received unfavorable reviews. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:01 UTC on Tuesday, 21 January 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Ada Wong on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Emma.

Everybody is a little nerdy about something and for us here at National Voter Registration Day our thing is and always will be (of course) voting! Being democracy nerds, we naturally gravitate to other nerds of every stripe, including our longtime premier partners at Nerds Vote, a California-based nonprofit organization helmed by some very nerdy voice and screen actors who want to bring the good news of voter registration to comic cons and nerdoms across the country. This month, we sit down with Nerds Vote co-founders JP Karliak and Courtenay Taylor about how they're celebrating democracy in truly nerdy fashion. PLUS: Is Nicholas Cage related to one of our hosts? Is x-ray vision an inherently skeevy superpower? And how YOU can join the 2022 National Voter Registration Day team! Have questions or comments for the pod? Email us at podcast@nationalvoterregistrationday.org. It's now a few months since the events of Dark Hallowe'en and the holidays arrive in Appalachia. While Simon remains frozen and Chad and the gang celebrate a restored Susie (more on that next episode), a strange travelling caravan of performers arrives in Appalachia. Led by Lord Alastair Olivier (Wes Johnson), after their cast is decimated by a Scorched Beast, a casting call is held to refill their ranks and they get some fairly unusual responses. Staged as part of the Fallout For Hope charity drive to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, we are joined by Bethesda's Pete Hines and Sean Baptiste with the who's who of Bethesda voice actors from Fallout 3, 4 and 76 including Courtenay Taylor, Jan Johns, Craig Sechler and Mike Rosson. The curtain is about to open on their final rehearsal, and it goes about as well as you'd expect. EDITOR'S NOTE: As this was performed live via the Internet, in some spots audio quality isn't our usual standard, and we hope you'll forgive it. Written and adapted by Kenneth Vigue. When: Friday, December 17th @ 6pm EST Where: https://www.twitch.tv/chadfallout76podcast This is Kenneth Vigue wishing you the merriest of Christmases, the happiest of holidays and the warmest of season's eatings. I want to update you on what we've been up to. Since December 4th, we've organized a global superstream charity initiative to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital under the umbrella of an initiative I started last year: Fallout For Hope. Over 300 Fallout streamers and content creators from around the globe working together to raise funds for life saving surgeries for kids fighting for their lives at a time of year when they should be home. As of right now we've raised over $122 thousand dollars with 5 days to go. The pinnacle event the cast and crew has been working on however is a live broadcast episode of this podcast, with the cast and some exceptionally special guest voice actors bringing Charles' Dickens A Christmas Carol to Appalachia. This live broadcast pairs live performance with stage performance on movie scale soundstages built in Fallout 76. The cast is a dream with iconic voice actor Wes Johnson, voice of Sheogorath in Elder Scrolls and loads of Fallout characters is starring as Lord Alastair Olivier whose travelling caravan of performers arrive in Appalachia to bring that classic holiday story to life for raiders, settlers and Brotherhood alike. As you can imagine, it goes downhill from there. Bethesda's Pete Hines will be joining us again as Jacob Marley. Alex will not be playing Chad, but Oliver's protégé Tarquin Blowhard…and …ehm Alex came up with that name. Also joining us are Courtenay Taylor who voiced the female Sole Survivor in Fallout 4, Jan Johns whose voice work has been heard in Fallout 3, 4 and 76 from Bittercup way back when to Enola Walker in 76. Mike Rosson who voiced almost all memorable ghouls in Fallout 3 including Gob and even Charon. Craig Sechler whom you know better as that vault bully and original Chad in Fallout 3 Butch DeLoria. Bethesda's Sean Baptiste is also joining us as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and Twitch streamer Dust Monkey will be playing Fred Scrooge's nephew. From our cast, Jessica Dickey and Dr. Mark Hauswirth will be brining Brian and MaryAnne to the stage to annoy Lord Alastair and Dr. Mark's children Logan and Sophia will also be joining us again. Last but not least that silver voice on the microphone Fenwa Teryen will be playing a very musically gifted Peter Cratchit. This performance will be for charity with us dropping it after airs into your feed to enjoy as a standalone episode. It'll be happening this Friday starting at 6pm Est at twitch.tv/chadfallout76podcast I very much hope I'll see you there and of course, in the Wasteland. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fallout76podcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fallout76podcast/support
