Love At First Sight is a 2023 Netflix Romantic Comedy film directed by Vanessa Caswill based on the 2011 novel The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. This is the story of Hadley Sullivan played by Haley Lu Richardson. Hadley never has a charged phone  and is chronically late, evidenced by the fact that when we meet her, she is in the process of missing her flight to London to attend her father's wedding. This is also the story of Oliver Jones played by Ben Hardy, Oliver is a British Yale student who is obsessed with statistics, hates surprises and typically keeps a very charged phone… this is how our love interests meet, at an airport, exchanging phone charges on the way to London. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I'm not a snob when to comes to romantic tropes. I don't discriminate: the more outlandish the better, and I love them all. Every beat might be as familiar as the back of my hand, but my attitude is: bring it on again. It's even better when there are little refreshing updates to beloved romcom plots, like in the new Netflix movie Love at First Sight. This unimaginative title promises the most smarmy movie experience ever, but it turns out to be a tender, warmhearted, romantic story about different kinds of love, fate, and the bravery it takes to embrace it all. (I tried to make this episode spoiler-free, but if you're good at picking up clues, you might want to watch the movie first).https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comFor once a really good trailer that communicates the fun and irresistible romance of this movie but doesn't hint at the emotional plot points at the center of the story. Gold stars all around. And for those who appreciate a really good spoiler synopsis (whoops, Oliver didn't miss his flight, Hadley joined him on his —insert googly heart eyes here in place of my brain). The script is co-written by Jennifer E. Smith, based on her YA romance The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. The entire cast is delightful.I certainly don't agree with all opinions in this movie review, but one thing I do agree with: Haley Lu Richardson needs to star in more romcoms."Do people really meet and in moments simply know they're meant to be? New evidence suggests: Yes, they do." We are diving into a new theme for September. We are covering movies with Growing Pains. The first is one of Tam's favorites (Corinne not so much) called The Edge of 17. It stars Hailee Steinfeld as Nadine, a wallowing 17 year old who thinks the world is against her, especially when her bestie Krista, played by Haley Lu Richardson starts dating Nadine's older brother. In this episode: we have another stockings/pantyhose sighting and speculate on the purpose of the stretchy cotton fabric in the crotch, wonder if Nadine's bad haircut was the true culprit in her fathers death, and petition to change the name of bangs to fringe (like the Brits) because it makes more sense. We relive our own high school experiences in this episode and it stirs up our own growing pains but we push through them to get to The Edge of 17.

Haley Lu Richardson, best known for playing Gen Z poster-child Portia in “The White Lotus” season 2, has been angling to dance in a musical for at least 12 years. “I've been putting this out into the universe since I was 16. That's my biggest dream, for sure,” Richardson tells us. (She's currently “talking to people about it,” she adds. There are “ideas circulating.”) That desire isn't just a throwback to Richardson's days as a dancer before she transitioned to acting—it's an extension of how she still approaches performing. “The thing I love about acting the most is the thing I love about dancing the most. It's this thing that comes from your soul; it's just such a vulnerable, abandoned thing,” she says. “The first time I really felt like I was acting was actually through dance. Now when I think about, what is my [acting] process? It is such an internal thing. It's in my body, it's listening to music.” On this episode of In the Envelope: The Actor's Podcast, Richardson makes a few more discoveries about her own acting process, gets candid about the reaction to her “White Lotus” character, and reveals the iconic script she once turned down. Fran and Babs from Over/underrated: a music podcast return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Frans choice The Edge of Seventeen. The Edge of Seventeen is a 2016 coming-of-age comedy-drama starring Hailee Steinfeld as 17 year-old Nadine who is dealing with recently losing her beloved father, falling out with her best friend, boys and other teenage dramas. Directed by Kelly Fremon Craig is also stars Woody Harrelson as her school teacher, Haley Lu Richardson as Nadine's (ex) best friend Krista and Kyra Sedgwick as Nadine's mum. Despite its slightly gloomy synopsis The Edge of Seventeen swings more towards the comedy elements as Nadine navigates being a teenager in a world that doesn't understand her while realising the world is not actually as against her as she thinks. Anchored by a strong performance by Steinfeld, The Edge of Seventeen is an above average teen film. However, Edge of Seventeen the song sadly does not feature on the soundtrack. Strong recommendability but slightly repeat viewing scores gives The Edge of Seventeen an overall score of 3.75.   [supsystic-tables id=277] Episode #265 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #265 Crew of Barbara (@flame_me_up) and Fran (@OUmusicpod) from Over/underrated music podcast Find their Websites online at  And at https://t.co/84i7d2rDrA And at https://linktr.ee/overunderratedmusicpod   More about The Edge of Seventeen For more info on The Edge of Seventeen, you can visit The Edge of Seventeen IMDb page here or The Edge of Seventeen Tomatoes page here. Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy return after a week off to catch-up on reviewing 12 new movies for you. They include a baseball documentary that premiered at SXSW this year (Facing Nolan), a new film written by Paul Schrader (There Are No Saints) and the great Haley Lu Richardson stars in a film about revisiting family trauma (Montana Story). They also revisit a Sundance comedy about two black friends trying not to get blamed when a white girl passes out in their house (Emergency) and one of the choices from the Chicago Critics Film Festival is a documentary about the longest hostage standoff in New York history (Hold Your Fire). Someone who never held their fire is given the four-hour documentary treatment by Judd Apatow (George Carlin's American Dream). Four is also the number of television shows getting the feature length treatment including a pair of sequels (Downton Abbey: A New Era, Jackass 4.5) and two animated ones (Chip ‘N' Dale: Rescue Rangers, The Bob's Burgers Movie). Erik and Steve have divergent thoughts on the new Alex Garland film (Men) but they are certainly wingmen when it comes to throwing cold water on the latest legacy sequel (Top Gun: Maverick).   0:00 – Intro 0:55 – There Are No Saints 7:54 – Facing Nolan 13:00 – Downton Abbey: A New Era 22:57 – Jackass 4.5 29:39 – Hold Your Fire 40:47 – George Carlin's American Dream 53:06 – Montana Story 1:01:56 – Emergency 1:10:12 - Men 1:23:02 – Chip ‘N' Dale: Rescue Rangers 1:37:44 – The Bob's Burgers Movie 1:48:58 – Top Gun: Maverick 2:08:42 - Outro

In this episode, the guys discuss ‘After Yang,' an adaptation of the Alexander Weinstein short story 'Saying Goodbye to Yang' in the collection 'Children of the New World' (2016). The film was written and directed by Kogonada ('Columbus') and stars Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Justin H. Min, Maela Emma Tjandrawidjaja, and Haley Lu Richardson. The conversation ranges from the film's expansion from the source material, a distinct visual style and aesthetic from the director, and whether or not we really need Showtime in our streaming lives. "I had the worst thought: I've got to spend the rest of my life with myself." Just as the school year is starting to wind down, JJ and Steve take one more trip back to high school with 2016's The Edge of Seventeen. First time director Kelly Fremon Craig is at the top of the class with her original script. The theater department is also stocked with talent: Hailey Steinfeld, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake Jenner, Kyra Sedgwick, and Woody Harrelson. Falling into solid Dramedy territory, this is not a typical teen comedy. This rewarding character piece will appeal to teen and twenty-somethings, while also delivering a smartly written story that will entertain adults. Bonus: JJ describes his favorite camera shot from this movie with such loving detail that it almost brings him to tears just talking about it.
