Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo react to coach Mike Tomlin's news conference at the team's South Side facility ahead of an NFL Week 4 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Is Justin Fields in line to start again at QB? How is Russell Wilson progressing in his return from injury? And has the plan for when he's fully healthy changed at all? Our duo tackles those questions and recaps a growing list of injuries to players including Alex Highsmith, Cory Trice Jr. and Jaylen Warren. What would that mean for the workload of existing starters including Najee Harris? And reserves like Cordarrelle Patterson, Darius Rush, Nick Herbig and DeMarvin Leal who are looking for opportunities?
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to ponder moves GM Omar Khan may make now that NFL teams have cut down to their initial 53-man rosters. Could he bolster his receiving corps behind George Pickens via trade? Or the addition of a freshly cut free agent like Noah Brown, formerly of the Houston Texans? Is there a need for help in the secondary behind top corners Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson? Or will coach Mike Tomlin press forward with Cory Trice Jr., Darius Rush and Beanie Bishop? And could there still be cuts along the defensive line and at tight end to accommodate such moves after Khan initially chose to keep fringe names like Isaiahh Loudermilk and MyCole Pruitt? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Brian Batko and Ray Fittipaldo recap a busy day at the team's South Side practice facility Monday as roster cuts loom. How is Jaylen Warren recovering from his NFL preseason hamstring injury? And will he be ready for Week 1 vs. the Atlanta Falcons? How is the battle to back up Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson at cornerback shaping up between Cory Trice Jr. and Darius Rush? Who has the edge at slot corner between Beanie Bishop and Thomas Graham Jr.? How many of receivers Scotty Miller, Quez Watkins and Dez Fitzpatrick will make the 53-man roster? How is Roman Wilson's ankle injury coming along? And how will coach Mike Tomlin decide to handle his fringe defensive linemen including Isiahh Loudermilk and Logan Lee? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, Alan takes us through the Steelers second day in pads of 2024 training camp. A fight broke out when Elandon Roberts made contact with Justin Fields after a play. Rookies Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick didn't take too kindly and a fight ensued. Russell Wilson was still limited in what he participated in. Roman Wilson didn't practice. We saw wide receivers and defensive backs take part in one on ones. We then answer questions on situational practice, how Darius Rush, Cory Trice and Cam Sutton look and Justin Fields' mechanics. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss! On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, the Post-Gazette's Christopher Carter and Adam Bittner weigh the Steelers' options at quarterback amid the NFL's eight-game suspension of Cam Sutton. Are Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson good enough as a 1-2 punch? Can depth pieces like Darius Rush, Beanie Bishop and Cory Trice Jr. step up to play prominent roles in Sutton's absence? Or will GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin need to make a move for another veteran cornerback like Chandon Sullivan? And how do the Steelers match up with the tough passing threats on their schedule including the Eagles' A.J. Brown, the Chiefs' Travis Kelce, the Browns' Amari Cooper and the Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase? Our duo tackles those topics. Then Pirates insider Noah Hiles joins Christopher to react to the team's 12-2 beating of the Brewers on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. Has Rowdy Tellez turned the corner for good? And is Quinn Priester proving he can be an MLB-caliber starter?
On his weekly Chipped Ham and Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes 93.7 The Fan's "Donny Football" Chedrick to pick the most likely -- or necessary -- breakout players for the team this season. Why does Keenau Benton seem like the most likely to take a major step after an encouraging rookie year? Can Joey Porter Jr. build on strong analytics to become a true shutdown cornerback? Can Pat Freiermuth still surprise people within new OC Arthur Smith's offense despite entering his fourth year in the league? Will George Pickens solidify his place as one of the league's best receivers? And why are names including DeShon Elliott, Nick Herbig, Darius Rush, Calvin Austin III, Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington among others to watch? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to the latest from Steelers OTAs. What should we make of Cam Heyward's return for the final week amid his contract dispute with the team? Will he get a news deal by training camp? Or is it possible he could end his career with another team? Our duo tackles those questions, then reacts to the mid-show return of Cam Sutton to the team's secondary. How does he bolster a unit that currently includes Joey Porter Jr., Donte Jackson and reserves like Darius Rush and Cory Trice Jr.? What kind of impact could his 2023 arrest in Florida have on his return? And does this move rule out the return of Patrick Peterson? Then later, Noah Hiles joins Christopher to react to Jared Jones' strong start in a 1-0 Pirates win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday at PNC Park. Learn more about your ad choices. And how will Wilson's leadership look up close. Our duo tackles those topics and also looks at other position battles to watch. Will any of the receivers including Roman Wilson, Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins or Scotty Miller prove they can be a serviceable No. 2? How will the cornerback room look with Donte Jackson arriving via the Diontae Johnson trade and Ryan Watts joining a young group that also includes Cory Trice Jr. and Darius Rush? And how does the absence of Cam Heyward loom over the proceedings? In his weekly YouTube appearance, Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise joins host Adam Bittner to analyze the Steelers' moves in NFL free agency. Was GM Omar Khan's early flurry of moves to acquire Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen and Donte Jackson via the Diontae Johnson trade enough heading into the NFL draft? Or should he have done more to address needs at tackle, center, receiver and cornerback to give the draft plan more flexibility? Did he box himself into needing to pick a right tackle like Amarius Mims, Tailese Fuaga or JC Latham in the first round? Or is he quietly more confident than the public about internal options like Dan Moore Jr., Darius Rush, Cory Trice and Nate Herbig? Our duo tackles those questions and more, including: How should manager Derek Shelton handle his closer situation with David Bednar struggling and Aroldis Chapman throwing well? How important is it for the club to get Jack Suwinski on track? What should we make of Andrew McCutchen's early struggles? And do we really need to see this Penguins team in the playoffs after a full season of depth players failing to meaningfully help stars including Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin? Nick Farabaugh joins Zachary Smith to discuss the latest surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers. Diontae Johnson and Larry Ogunjobi both returned to practice, which put a lot of minds to ease about any hamstring setbacks for Johnson. Joey Porter Jr., Levi Wallace and James Pierre are all questionable to play Sunday though after varied participation throughout the week. Luq Barcoo and Darius Rush both spent time with the starters during Friday's practice. There's been a little bit of back and forth between the Jaguars secondary and George Pickens this week as the game draws closer. TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith have been moving around a little bit more than normal, and that's something we can expect to see continue as the team looks for more creative ways to allow them to rush the passer. How do these teams stack up against each other and how do the guys think this one plays out? Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss! Learn more about your ad choices. Chris Carter of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Locked on Steelers joins Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith to discuss the latest surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers. Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin did some reshuffling of the cornerback room as they added Darius Rush from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad and plan to trade or release Desmond King. Rush fits the mold the team is clearly targeting similarly to Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice Jr. Dan Moore Jr. was working with the first team during Wednesday's practice ahead of Broderick Jones. A sign the former will be retaking the position on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Minkah Fitzpatrick's utilization this year has been interesting. He's been utilized a ton in the slot and hasn't been put in the right position to make a ton of splash plays. How can the team get him back to being the ball-hawking player that makes him so great? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers completed their 53-man roster while including another trade to move Kendrick Green for a draft pick. The moves from Omar Khan and Andy Weidl signal the Steelers' offensive line is in good shape to be the bullies the Steelers' need to control the line of scrimmage, both with their starters, and their depth players. Also, the release of Zach Gentry might've been a surprise, but it's also a signal that Darnell Washington is ready to rise. Washington's proven to be an impressive blocker and now he's shown he can quickly grow as a receiving threat. All that leads to him and Pat Freiermuth as Kenny Pickett's top options. Finally, the Steelers still could possibly use another outside cornerback to fit the bottom of their depth chart better than their current status. Could players like Darius Rush, Greedy Williams or Amani Oruwariye be the answer in free agency?
Or are Khan and Weidl already cooking up another trade? The Indianapolis Colts are holding on to Jonathan Taylor.. at least for now. A trade failed to materialize by the 4 PM deadline and the disgruntled star will remain with the team for at least another four weeks. In other roster news, fifth-round pick Darius Rush, WR Mike Strachan, and DE Al-Quadin Muhammad stand out as the team's most surprising roster cuts. The Colts have a shocking RPO roster. Indianapolis Colts release Darius Rush, but it made sense. The Colts only have Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs as Wide Receivers! With 5 Tight Ends, Indy have a LOT of mismatch capability. This current roster is going to be interesting, and innovative. The Indianapolis Colts Practice Squad. The back-up Offensive Guards are still thin in my opinion. Only have 2 healthy active Running Backs on the roster. This is the team that Head Coach: Shane Steichen designed. The Colts keep 6 (really 7) linebackers. The Colts defensive Line is as what was expected. This is just the initial roster, expect changes by week 1.
The Indianapolis Colts have done little to fix their offensive line this offseason, depending on bounce-back seasons from Quenton Nelson, Ryan Kelly, and Braden Smith to fix the concerns. Could the Colts stand to add more quality depth behind the starters (maybe a Dalton Risner or Justin Pugh signing)? We also dive into the cornerback position and discuss whether we should be worried about the youth movement of JuJu Brents and Darius Rush playing so early on.Find and follow Locked On Colts on your favorite podcast platforms:

The Indianapolis Colts' cornerback room is fascinating to study. Outside of Kenny Moore II and JuJu Brents, the depth chart is wide open for any other player on the roster to make an impact. Can fifth-round pick Darius Rush lock in a starting role in year one?Find and follow Locked On Colts on your favorite podcast platforms:
