Lukujonossa keskustelemme Go Nagain ronskinraisusta klassikkosarjasta Devilman, joka 1970-luvulla rikkoi mangan rajoja. --- Kommentoi | Mastodon | Twitter (X?) | Instagram --- (01:00) – KUULUMISET: ÄÄNIJÄLKI - Afureko-blogi ja sen Äänijälki-podcast - Afureko Twitterissä - Nita Twitterissä - Mangakartan ja Äänijäljen ystävänpäivätempaus 2022 - Jakso 63, jossa puhuimme ystävänpäivätempauksesta alkukuulumisissa (03:56) – MANGAN VUOSIKYMMENET: ENNEN TEZUKAA - Jean-Marie Bouissoun tietokirja Manga: Histoire et univers de la bande dessinée japonaise - Ukiyo-e-puupiirrosteokset - Hokusai (13:04) – MANGAN VUOSIKYMMENET: 1940-LUKU - Petterin DesuTalks-luento Mies joka loi Osamu Tezukan (YouTube – videotallenne jäi traagisesti isoksi osaksi ilman ääntä, joka alkaa kuulua vasta noin tästä eteenpäin, jos volyymin säätää maksimiin) - Shin Takarajima (1947), Osamu Tezukan läpimurtoteos, joka on sittemmin nostettu modernin mangan alkupisteeksi ja peruskiveksi - Shin Takarajima olikin esillä myös British Museumin manganäyttelyssä vuonna 2019 - Tähän aikaan sarjakuvaa julkaistiin Japanissa lähinnä halpoina (kuva) ja tekijänoikeuksista välittämättöminä (kuva) akahon-julkaisuina, joiden seassa Tezuka erottui edukseen laadullaan - Fujiko Fujio -työpari muistelee jälkikäteen, miten päräyttävältä Shin Takarajiman näkeminen tuntui (kuva) - Floyd Gottfredsson ja hänen piirrostyylinsä, joka on tuttu kaikille vanhoja Aku Ankan taskukirjoja lukeneille - Squash & stretch on animaatioperiaatteista tärkeimpänä pidetty - Comics Journalin artikkelit: - Manga Finds Pirate Gold: The Case of New Treasure Island - Tezuka Osamu Outwits the Phantom Blot: The Case of New Treasure Island Cont'd - Sazae-san (1946–1974) (19:47) – MANGAN VUOSIKYMMENET: 1950-LUKU - Osamu Tezukan nousukausi - Viidakon valtias (1950), maailmalla tutumpi jenkkinimellään - Petterin kirjoitus Viidakon valtiaasta Anime-lehden numerossa 3/2013 (pdf) - Astro Boy (1952) - Princess Knight (1953) - Tokiwa-so, jossa Tezuka asui 1953-1954 ja josta muodostui Tokion mangapiirtäjien keskus - Shotaro Ishinomori - Fujiko Fujio - Weekly Manga Times (1956) – kustantajansa mukaan ensimmäinen pelkkää mangaa julkaissut lehti (22:56) – MANGAN VUOSIKYMMENET: 1960-LUKU - Viikottaiset mangalehdet rytmittävät nuorten elämää: - Weekly Shonen Magazine (1959) - Weekly Shonen Sunday (1959) - Weekly Shonen Jump (1968) - Weekly Shonen Champion (1969) - Akahon-puolella synkempää ja rankempaa sarjakuvaa alettiin vuodesta 1957 alkaen kutsua gekigaksi (“dramaattiset kuvat”) vastareaktiona lehdissä julkaistavan ja lapsille soveltuvan mangan (“sutaistut kuvat“) suosiolle). Live from the convention, Prede and Jon discuss the return of Otakon! They discuss many of the panels and events at Otakon 2021. On Friday, Prede discussed Daryl Surat's “Thirty Years Ago: Anime in 1991” Panel (including the infamous “is this a pigeon meme” from the 1991 anime “The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird”) which was one his favorites of the weekend, “Shoujo Rock Heaven” that detailed some all girl Japanese rock bands, “The Best Openings for Shows You (Probably) Didn't See” (also by Daryl Surat and the rest of AWO, much to Prede and Jon's irk, they did not include “Gunsmith Cats”). Friday also had “Bad Anime, Bad On Panel”, which showed some horrible anime. The Christmas cartoon featured in that panel is “Rapsittie Street Kids: Believe in Santa”, please don't watch it it's torture). Prede got to watch a real Japanese Tea Demonstration featuring Inosuke Hashibira from “Demon Slayer” (Really? YES!). The Satoshi Kon panel by Otaku Nate was incredibly helpful and interesting. They also discuss the video game concert, Open World. Saturday, Prede got to learn about Japanese Law through Ace Attorney, both attended the AnimEigo panel, Prede talked about the excitement at the Discotek panel and their amazing announcement of their plans to release and dub the Gainax classic Gunbuster! Prede learns he can't make Origami, and he sat in on “Your Anime is an 80's Movie!” which got a lot of criticism online. Ultimately a very educational con! Sorry the audio quality is not the greatest, this was recorded live at the con! Since our previous Lupin the Third episodes (on The Mystery of Mamo and The Fuma Conspiracy) have done extremely well and everyone seems to like them, we decided we definitely needed to do another one before 2018 was over. So, we did! and we made it extra special by having on Daryl Surat! You may know Daryl from his long-running anime podcast, Anime World Order, or from his articles in Otaku USA and on Anime News Network. And if you've ever been scarred at convention panels by the names of "Anime's Craziest Deaths" or "Panel of DOOM", you can blame this guy. (Anime World Order: www.animeworldorder.com) (Otaku USA: http://www.otakuusamagazine.com/) In this episode, we talk about the second Lupin the Third theatrical film, the legendary directorial debut of Hayao Miyazaki before he founded Studio Ghibli, Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro. During catchup we introduce Daryl, ask him what's been going on with AWO, Otaku USA, and how the First of the North Star game is going. Bill talks Red Dead II, Tobias talks SSSS. Gridman, and Austin talks Dark Souls Remastered (a game franchise that Daryl's 60ish year old father is incredibly good at). We then talk about the movie, the Lupin franchise at large, it's tonal differences, the production staff of Cagliostro, Miyazaki's flair, "asbestos suits", Tobias' experience watching his FIRST LUPIN THING, and how amazing Discotek is. Want to watch The Castle of Cagliostro for yourself? As of the release of this episode it is on Netflix and available on home video from Right Stuf and Discotek Media. (Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/70050576) (Right Stuf: https://www.rightstufanime.com/Lupin-the-3rd-The-Castle-of-Cagliostro-Blu-ray-Hyb-Collectors-Edition) We are happy to remind everyone that Bill has graciously provided a copy of The Rose of Versailles Part 1 as a FREE giveaway to one of you listeners out there! As we stated in the beginning of the episode, you can be entered to WIN by popping over to our iTunes account and leaving us a 5 star rating and review. (Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/third-impact-anime-podcast/id1313595090?mt=2) We will be announcing the winner on DECEMBER 13th, 2018 (one month from today) in our Facebook community group so make sure to join over there to know if you're the winner! (Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thirdimpactanimecommunity/) And that's it! We hope you enjoyed the show. The crowd at the Cannon Busters premiere at Otakon. Evan, Clarissa, Gerald, and Daryl are up in front. Evan and David went to Otakon 2016, but David got an early train out of town, so Evan had to settle for a huge supergroup of podcasters and bloggers in this post-Otakon show. Daryl Surat, Gerald Rathkolb, and Clarissa Graffeo from Anime World Order; Alain and Kate from the Reverse Thieves/Speakeasy; and Carl from Ogiue Maniax sit down to discuss their favorite and least favorite parts of Otakon 2016, and the future of the convention as it moves to Washington, DC in 2017. Topics include: accidentally winning eating contests, Koji Morimoto impersonators, and the presumed lowlight of the weekend, the GamerGate panel (“Politics in Video Games”). Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance And here it is, the long lost episode that is now waaaaaay out of date, but still contains messages and meanings most dire. And the message is all about Neveldine/Taylor’s Nicolas Cage-starring blockbuster of a Marvel film, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. We also discuss other things, like Mass Effect 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Tales of the Abyss, Knights if the Old Republic, and Doritos tacos. Joining us on this epic take is Daryl Surat from AWO, Niko from CineGeek, and Basil’s buddy Caleb. Oh and I guess I was there, too. OSMnotes BUY BUY BUY BUY. Also, we are back! And we will have another episode… SOONER THAN YOU THINK! Which considering how long it’s been since the last update, we have some leeway there. But sooner!
Crying Freeman. Daryl Surat. Y'ALL READY FOR THIS?

The gang's all... here? Just when you thought we were going to post our review of the new Makoto Shinkai movie first, we double back and release our FMA movie one instead! That’s right, this time the OSMcast tackles the movie Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, animated by Bones and directed by Kazuya Murata. We’re joined by Daryl Surat of Anime World Order, Otaku USA, Crunchyroll News, and wherever there is justice to be found. We also delve into the nature of the reoccuring shonen film staple, and Trigun: Badlands Rumble. It’s a fun time! OSMnotes When will Funimation out Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos? Chances are, as soon as they can. They know how to strike while the iron is hot, unlike some other studios (Anchor Bay!). However, Trigun: Badlands Rumble is hitting September 27th! You can tell Basil’s opinion of Trigun: Badlands Rumble as he keeps referring to it as Trigun: Badass Rumble. And Basil didn’t even like the original Trigun that much! So it should be a pretty safe buy. If you know, you like awesome stuff. Which we assume you do since well, you’re on our site. AWA Fun Times are a comin’! What kind of OSMcast panels are we throwing out for AWA this year?! Well here they are: Engrish Jambore II – Engrish Haldel: Basil and Drew started this panel at AWA last year, and we are returning once again to deliver tlue rove for all that rove engrish. Anime’s Creepy Uncle – Go Nagai At A Glance: Basil and Kevin gush how awesome Go Nagai is and why you should think he is awesome too. Getting Your Anime Groove Back: Think you might be getting out of anime? Well Basil just might have some shows to get you back in the game, as it were. And is an excuse to show off the first 13 minutes of Redline. We’ll probably have actual times and places for these panels closer to the con itself. Next time, we’ll actually post our review of the latest Makoto Shinkai film Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, along with AWO‘s Gerald.
The best movie of 2011 you probably never saw! This podcast was in fact so angry, we had to let it cool down for an extra two weeks just so we could get it out here. It’s all about Nicolas Cage’s latest vehicle of awesomeness, Drive Angry. Always angry special guest Daryl Surat joins us for this drive-filled action packed people talking exciting episode of excitement. We talk about all sorts of things that seemed really important at the time! And quite possibly still do! OSMnotes Sadly, as it turned out that even two eeks ago, Drive Angry was already out of our local theaters. It’s a real shame. But these things do tend to come out in home media form, so when it does, you should watch this film, 3D or no! Also, Momocon has already happened, but it was fun! A good time was had by all. Next up on the OSMcast Road Show? MTAC! We’ll be present two lovely panels for your education and also possibly amusement! We’ll be rocking out with the Getting Your Anime Groove Back panel that was discussed IN THIS VERY EPISODE. And also, Anime’s Creepy Uncle, a Glance at Go Nagai, which may or may not have been mentioned, I can’t remember. Still, it’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be awesome.
Hosts: Evan "Vampt Vo" Minto, Mitchell Dyer, Daryl Surat Topic: Mass Effect 1 (Mass Effect 2 and our expectations for 3 are in part 2) We've got Anime World Order's Daryl Surat with us this episode to talk about the science-fiction action-RPG series Mass Effect. In part a, we talk about the first Mass Effect game ("Mass Effect 1" for clarity), touching on the parts we both liked and didn't like in both the storytelling and the gameplay. While I mentioned that the episode would have a lot of spoilers, this first part is relatively spoiler-free in terms of plot twists. However, we do discuss the meta-game a bit, so if you'd rather not know that, listen at your own risk.
In this episode, Daryl Surat and I review Crank, Crank 2: High Voltage, and Gamer -- quite possibly the Greatest Movies EVER!
This is the REAL Mazinger, MAN. For this TWO HOUR BEHEMOTH of an OSMcast_!_, we are once again joined by Daryl Surat of Anime World Order and Otaku USA to talk about STUFF. We talk about anime, video games, the State of The Mecha Genre, but really we mostly talk about S** hin Mazinger Z**, the awesome new re-imagining of the classic Go Nagai series, as the director Yasuhiro Imagawa only knows how: By making it really, really awesome. Protip: Due to magical and mystical nature of audio processing Daryl sounds a touch softer than Kevin and Basil. It makes us feel more important than we actually are. Also we trip over each over a little bit, as while Daryl is used to talking via the Internets, Basil and Kevin are not. You have been warned! Promo: THIS IS NOT AN ANIME PODCAST! Those liars! They talk about anime ALL THE TIME. We met these guys at AWA and thought they are pretty cool. These dues talk about anime and video games and other neat nerd stuff that means they tend to cover similar stuff as us. Which again, means they are pretty cool. They will be even cooler when they get an RSS feed! (Just sayin’.) Durarara!!, It's like BACCANO! only in modern day and less caps lock, but extra punctuation. OSMnotes First off, technically we are releasing late on Monday but it’s still Monday so it counts! The file initially exported to mp3 wrong so we had to reprocess it. after DJ Inubito got home from work. Crazy, I know. Sadly right now the only way to get this show is via fansubs. This would probably be a good place to start. And if we ever get a retail release you can be sure that we will be preaching it from the mountain tops. Before this episode went up I (Basil) asked for suggestions to fill the text space up. After a few posts of nothing (well Cleavland has an idea) Lee then bombarded me with 15 bazillion ones. I suppose he must have been really bored at work today. I was going to delete post once I had a good topic but since he gave me SO MANY topics the post will stay up so I’ll have a list of options whenever I need to fill up space. I’ll call it Lee’s List. Like so~ Dragon Age: Orgins AKA Baldur's Gate III. This is a Good Thing. Also Ogres turn out to be wusses in this game. FYI. Lee’s List: Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People – I don’t know I only play good games. I kid, I kid! I haven’t played it. Too many other games I want to play before I get to before I lose myself into the land ofTelltale Games. Well. That was too short. Okay how about… Lee’s List: How Annoying it is when one of your coworkers CLIPS THEIR TOENAILS in the cubical next to yours. Geez, guy. NO MAN FUCK YOU. I GOT TO CLIP THIS SHIT BEFORE IT GETS OUT OF HAND! THESE TOENAILS. OH GOD. THESE TOENAILS. THEY ARE GROWING LIKE A CANCER THAT GROWS LIKE A TOENAIL OU** T OF TOE FUCK!** PS: While Pad is still the worst name ever in the history of ever, you can’t actually change names in Nostalgia so just accept it and find better things to complain about. Like Gonzo! But that’s pretty much beating a dead horse. Hmm…
Hell, I dunno either! This latest podcast is all about the anime con that just happened. It’s called Anime Weekend Atlanta. It was pretty awesome. And so here are two nightcap sessions we recorded on Friday and Saturday night. Aside from the usual crew of OSM Central, we also have our ever-present buddies over at Akihabra Renditions. And add that extra something with just adding Basil won’t cut it, Chad Bonin of GaijINside on Friday’s section and Niko of MTAC and GMX fame on Saturday’s section. Oh! And some guy named Dusty who happened to be on the room Friday night. We get the BIG NAMES here folks! MAJOR SCREW UP: And once again, we apologize for mixing up names on the first half. When we say Rikki Simons, we actually meant Jonathan Tarbox. These two gentlemen are both awesome guys and we feel bad for mixing up names. We blame the fact that it was really late at night. Because honestlt, Tarbox is a freakishly amazing name and I have no idea how we could forget such name. I mean, Tarbox. Man. OSMnotes Do you? AWA was amazingly awesome! Most excellent panel shout outs go out to Drew, Richard, and Dave Merrill for the great Classic Mecha panel. Clarissa’s Blackjack panel was also kickass, and major thanks for joining us for the Podcaster’s Roundtable. Gerald’s History of Hentai and AIC ( Darius was awesome too!) panels were wondrous. And, of course, I do in fact Believe in Daryl Surat. Helen McCarthy’s Unknown Tezuka Panel was illuminating. Carl Horn’s and Jonathan “Completely not Rikki Simons” Tarbox’s State of the Manga Industry was excitingly candid. And any other panels I’m not thinking of, were also probably amazing. I'd like to say Rail took the picture at this angle. So I will. … Like Vertical’s which has helped me start working on my Xmas list. See, there was just too much stuff to remember it all. Speaking of the Podcaster’s Round table, I know one or two new podcast start-ups were there talking to us after the panel was over. EMAIL US. Basil commands this! It is osmcast@gmail.com. Anyone else, they can do this too! But especially the ones I’m talking about you know who you are. Also, everyone can always call us on the OSMline: (209)-OSM-LINE aka (209) 676-5463. And before I forget! Basil was a guest on the Channel Z podcast from Dragon*Con, and this one is _ video_. Where we read Naruto fanfiction. Terrible Naruto fanfiction. You have BEEN WARNED. Next week we’ll get real about AWA. _Really _real.
Fallout 3 In this week’s episode of the OSMcast, we’re joined by the Anime World Order‘s Daryl Surat to talk about Fallout 3. It’s Bethesda Game Studios’ take on the classic video games series Fallout by Black Isle Studios. So of course we talk about those too. All in all it’s a very Fallout-y podcast. Except when it’s not. Spoiler Alert: After the podcast Inubito and I did leave to try and see Crank: High Voltage. However, the fools that we were decided to get food first and missed the last showing. So instead we saw Fast & Furious, which was neither fast nor furious. OSMnotes You can pretty much find this game everywhere that you can find remotely new games. Hell, I think some places still have Collector’s Editions floating around at discounted prices. And who _wouldn’t _want a Pip-Boy bobble head and a Fallout 3 lunchbox. I mean really. As far as I can tell, this game is pretty awesome, and you all should totally buy it. Speaking of things you can buy… You know it's good when the cover art in some regions features a guy punching through another guy's head. Rumor has it that Toys ‘R’ Us has the PS2 game God Hand around for $20. This one of the best action games around. In fact some may say it’s even the best action game, EVER. (It also has the best ending credits song, too!) We’ve mentioned the game in the show before, as it’s one of those weird games that’s really good but got some really bad scores. Why? I have no clue, maybe some people just don’t like fun. Oh, and if you too lazy to leave your house, that’s fine! It looks like their website has it, too. We’ve mentioned it before butjust in case: Our glorious DJ Inubito, has teamed up with some fellow DJs and have formed Dou(gai)jin Recordings and have already released their first promo EP. And best of all? You can download it right now. Beyond Nerdcore, BEYOND REMIX. ... NERDMIX. OK, so I need to work on better taglines. In the next thrill-packed episode of the OSMcast, it’s all anime all the time as we tackle several shows that just hit for the Spring 2009 Anime Season. Not exactly full reviews since at most we’ve seen maybe three episodes, but our takes on what the show looks to be about and if it should be on your radar or not. We’ll also be announcing a brand new contest! It’s EXITING. If you’d like to contact us, you can send us an email at osmcast@gmail.com, check out our forum, leave a comment in the comments section, or even give us a call on the OSMline (206-202-0071). And finally we hear at OSM Central wish Daryl all the best of luck on his surgery today. But frankly, we aren’t worried. We're positive that he can take it like a champ.
Slayers Revolution In this episode of the OSM cast_!_ we decided to throw down with the latest adventures of Lina and the gang by talking about Slayers Revolution! OSMnotes Right now Slayers Revolution is kind of hard to get to at the moment. When the series started up a small while back, you could find fansubs of it. But with a _quickness _Funimation grabbed up the rights to both it _and _Slayers Evolution-R. Fansubs dried up really quick (because if anyone knows where to look for places to throw some cease and desist orders, it’s Funimation.). Not that this is a bad thing! Especially since they’ve promised us streaming versions of Slayers officially subtitled soon. How soon, I have no clue. I’m sure that we’ll talk about in a future World of OSM when it happens. Baccano! It's pretty darn awesome. Speaking of streaming and Funimation, they also have Baccano! You can actually watched the first episode on their site, although it is dubbed. We talked about Baccano! in Show #10, although it is spoileriffic and me might have missed a fact there or two. If you would rather have a less spoiler-filled podcast, Daryl Surat of the AWO recently covered it. Or you could just buy it. Trust me, this was the best show of 2007 this side of Gurren Lagann. You will not be disappointed. Just to remind everyone who might be going to MTAC, so are we! Infact we’ll be on the podcasting panel, where there will be special secret prizes. What will these be? I don’t know I’m not handling it! But I hear that there will be some. And I’ll be there to run my mouth off in person. I see no reason why this is a bad thing, really. Maybe we can try that whole taking photos thing again, the cosplay kids seemed to like that. MTAC: It's where it's AT, come April 3rd-5th anyway! We mentioned that the nerdcore anime hip hop group The Band of Seven will be there to run MTAC’s dance off. I asked them for a link so that you all could check them out and what do they do? They sent us three. These guys have their stuff together way more than we do, with our measly one URL. To wit: They are planning to release their second album at MTAC, that is said to be produced while on a spaceship. If this is true, I want to know where one can _find _one of these things. I’m in the Rocket City and so far, no dice. Spaceships are the best. How do these guys do it? I know not, but if you do, let us know! Or how this podcast was, a question you’d like answered, or maybe you were trying to conatct someone else but found is instead! So if you would like to contact us, fret not! There are many, many ways one can acconplish this. And by many, I mean three. Way Number One: Leave a comment in this very post! Way Number Two: Email us at osmcast@gmail.com! Way Number Three: Send us a voice mail at 206-202-0071! It is fact, _that _easy.
In this episode, Daryl Surat and I review Doomsday -- undeniably the Greatest Movie EVER!
Alternate title: "Noah, When I Want Your Opinion I'll Take My Cl*t Out of Your Mouth and Ask You For It." Rather than edit our own con report which was hastily recorded a few days ago, here's the Ninja Consultant Otakon 2008 report recorded LIVE at the con! With special guests Daryl Surat and Gerald Rathkolb from AWO! Also, Mike Dent from R5 Central, Tyler Waldman from Rangercast, and James Veronico from Animepodcast.net! Featuring Dave Riley from Fast Karate for the Gentleman, and Mike Toole as the Voice of God. Recorded Saturday night from about 1 AM to 4 AM WHILE COMPLETELY SOBER. Except for those Irish anime podcasters. You can't keep them away from the bottle.
