Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Necronomicon (1993), and Gods of the Deep (2023) While Stephen King may dominate when it comes to movie adaptations of his work—good or bad—one might expect that H.P. Lovecraft, given his immense impact on the literary world, would inspire just as many films. Yet, despite his influence, far fewer movies have been made from his stories than you'd think. Perhaps it's because Lovecraft's horror isn't about the details of what his characters see, but rather what those horrors do to them—often driving them into madness. And therein lies the beauty of his work. In this episode, we dive into three very different films, spanning three decades, each drawing from the strange and unsettling tales of this enigmatic author from Providence, Rhode Island. If you're not well-versed in Lovecraft's work, this is your chance to experience three adaptations—loose as they may be—that offer a glimpse into his nightmarish imagination. Films Mentioned in this Episode: Castle Freak (1995), Color Out of Space (2019), Creepshow (1982), The Crimson Blade (1963), Crying Freeman (1995), Demon Wind (1990), The Devil-Ship Pirates (1964), Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966), The Dunwich Horror (1970), The Evil Dead (1981), From Beyond (1986), Gamera, Guardian of the Universe (1995), Gods of the Deep (2023), Hatchet (2006), The Haunted Palace (1963), Humanoids from the Deep (1981), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), The Invisible Ray (1935), Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988), Leprechaun (1993), Leprechaun 2 (1994), Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996), Leprechaun 5: In the Hood (2000), Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood (2003), Lovecraft Country (2020), Lurking Fear (1994), Necronomicon (1993), Re-Animator (1985), Return of the Living Dead III (1993), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), The Unnamable (1988), Vampyres (1974)
Ah, Fall. For many, it is the time for crisp, cooler air, pumpkin spice lattes, and bundling up all warm and toasty while you watch the leaves change from the colors of green to the colors of autumn. But if you're us? It's all about families of assassins, yakuza, military complexes, bear cults, and devious pro wrestlers. Or perhaps intrigue, spy craft, and amorous rendezvous aplenty! Oh, and murder. Just lots and lots of murder. All kinds. But mostly the kind of murder that's best served up by feet-knives.That's right, this time on the OSMcast we are talking about the manga and anime that is Crying Freeman! The manga was written by Kazuo Koike and illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami. The anime was adapted by Toei Animation and was directed by Higashi Shimizu and Ryunosuke Ono.OSMnotesCrying Freeman! The 1995 Crying Freeman movie is notoriously difficult to watch, which means that it has to be the most amazing thing ever right? Well, in addition to being a stellar live action adaptation of a manga, it has a few things going for it: Mark Dacascos in a starring role, well staged and edited action scenes and Vancouver playing Vancouver for once. Daryl and Gerald from the Anime World Order podcast pop by to analyze how well a Japanese crime story transplanted into a Canadian city holds up. (The answer is: pretty well, actually!)

Oder von Only The Strong? This week we begin the themed 'Old Blokes Read Manga' month on the podcast. First up in the co-host chair is comics historian Richard Sheaf who has chosen Volume #1 of Crying Freeman. Part of the big wave of Manga that hit the UK and US in the nineties and a series that even with a bit of awkward sex still stands up today. Tony and Rich discuss the creators and the legacy of this cracking series from Kazuo Koike and Ryiochi Ikegami. You can catch up on Richard's brilliant Blog Boys Adventure Comics by clicking the link. You can also find and follow him here on Twitter. Many thanks for listening.
#cryingfreeman #manga #romance #belleetlabête #christophegans Contacts email : lucasfilles2019@gmail.com Aurélie Instagram : @tricaurelie YouTube : Knit & Read Claire Tumblr : clairen45 Twitter : @DomanClaire Instagram : @claireno45 Enregistré le 1er Octobre 20201 Montage audio et vidéo : Claire Musique des génériques : Blue Dot Sessions – Reptile Theme Bannière et Thumbnail : Coralie FAIR-USE COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER : 1)This video has no negative impact on the original works.
American Splendor scene #29 (1:31:12 to 1:37:31) — Alex Robinson of Star Wars Minute joins Josh & Dean for the final scene of the film! (Well, actually, six little “scenelets.”) It's one year later, and Harvey & Joyce sign Our Cancer Year. Harvey is declared cancer-free! They adopt Danielle, and Harvey adjusts to being a parent (of a sort). The real Harvey retires from the VA hospital, and the movie ends with a group hug. For Alex, discovering American Splendor was "like LSD in reverse.” An ode to Alex’s work, particularly Box Office Poison and the characters Jane Pekar and Irving Flavor. We learn that “Pekar” means “baker” (in Czech)! The idea of a Harvey Pekar walking tour of Cleveland. “On the money": all the books Harvey published between 2003 and 2010 (his death). I look at the late, great manga writer's non-terrible and actually good collaborations with Ryoichi Ikegami. Anyone looking to make a drinking game out of this episode is advised to take a shot each time I mention "female wish fulfillment" when talking about "Crying Freeman." It really wasn't something I was expecting to engage with before re-reading it...

Mit Gebrüll: Wir betreten "Jurassic World 2: Das gefallene Königreich". Und sagen "Goodbye Christopher Robin". Außerdem interessieren wir uns für "Swimming with Men". Unausterblich gut.

Ryan (aka Blacotaku1) started an ambitious project 3 years ago: to scan his entire collection of vintage Japanese Newtype magazines from the 80s to the 90s and share them with other anime fans online via his Tumblr blog, Oldtype/Newtype. Not only that, but to try to share some of the rare old interviews and photos with various creators, artists, and other big industry names that had been lost to the ages. In this episode, I talk to Ryan and find out what got him started on this project, how he got into anime, and what it means to him to be able to share his love of older anime in print media form with the world. Sidenote: For some reason, this episode got cursed with various technical issues, so there's a few spots where the audio may sound a little wonky and it sounds like we're talking over each other--which, I assure you, we didn't do when we were actually talking! So please excuse these tiny hiccups. ^^; Stream the episode above or [Direct Download] You can also now subscribe on itunes & Stitcher! Relevant links: Follow Ryan on Twitter and Tumblr! HEY, CULTIES! CDR AND CBH THE CANADIAN GREMLINS HAVE SABOTAGED THE FEED AND THEY'RE BRINGING THEIR OWN BRAND OF HALF-ASSED INSANITY TO THE CULT!! This week we busted out a couple reviews chosen by guest co-host Mr. Christian Bates-Hardy of the Great White North. First we traveled to the criminal underworld of Vancouver, British Columbia with the tear-soaked action/crime saga Crying Freeman from 1995, starring Marc Dacascos and the disembodied voice of Ron Perlman. Second up we ventured to the far flung reaches of space and lost ourselves in the kind eyes of Kurt Russel with Paul WS Anderson's space/western epic, SOLDIER. So buckle up, slam a Monster Energy and get ready for serious comic book nerd-rage, monotonous Canadian accents and pain medication fueled nonsense!
