(Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) يتغلب كيس ومولي على التدخلات القانونية السيبرانية ومحاولة خيانة من ريفيرا لدمج وينترميوت مع نيورومانسر، وينتهي الأمر بكيس يعيش في عالم جديد شجاعأفلام:·        Escape from New York (1981)[40][41]·        Burst City (1982)[42]·        Tron (1982)[43]·        Blade Runner (1982)[44]·        Brainstorm (1983)[45]·        Videodrome (1983)[46]·        Repo Man (1984)·        The Terminator (1984)·        Brazil (1985)·        RoboCop (1987)[47]·        The Running Man (1987)·        Gunhed (1989)[48]·        Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)·        Circuitry Man (1990)[49]·        RoboCop 2 (1990)·        Hardware (a.k.a. In this episode, Chris welcomes back Lisa from the "I Love That Movie" podcast to discuss the first volume of one of her favorite manga, “Battle Angel Alita”. Yukito Kishiro creates what many consider to be his magnum opus with this seminal manga series. In a dump in the lawless settlement of Scrapyard, far beneath the mysterious space city of Zalem, disgraced cyber-doctor Daisuke Ido makes a strange find: the detached head of a cyborg woman who has lost all her memories. He names her Alita and equips her with a powerful new body, the Berserker. While Alita remembers no details of her former life, a moment of desperation reawakens in her nerves the legendary school of martial arts known as Panzer Kunst. In a place where there is no justice but what people make for themselves, Alita decides to become a hunter-killer, tracking down and taking out those who prey on the weak. But can she hold onto her humanity as she begins to revel in her own bloodlust? Dystopian societies appear in many artistic works, most notably in stories set in a future time period. A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 dystopian crime film adapted, produced, and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel of the same name. It employs disturbing, violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs, and other social, political, and economic subjects in a dystopian near-future Britain. Equilibrium is a 2002 American dystopian science fiction film written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, and starring Christian Bale, Emily Watson, and Taye Diggs. The film follows John Preston (Christian Bale), an enforcement officer in a future in which feelings and artistic expression are outlawed and citizens take daily injections of powerful psychoactive drugs to suppress their emotions. After accidentally missing a dose, Preston begins to experience emotions, which makes him question his morality and moderate his actions while attempting to remain undetected by the suspicious society in which he lives. Ultimately, he aids a resistance movement using advanced martial arts, which he was taught by the regime he is helping to overthrow. Alita: Battle Angel is a 2019 American cyberpunk action film based on Yukito Kishiro's manga series Gunnm (or Battle Angel Alita in English). It was directed by Robert Rodriguez, produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, and written by Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Rosa Salazar stars through performance-capture animation as Alita, a cyborg who awakens in a new body with no memory of her past and sets out to uncover her destiny. Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson star in supporting roles. The Bad Batch is a 2016 American dystopian thriller film directed and written by Ana Lily Amirpour. The film is about a young woman (Suki Waterhouse) exiled to a desert where she is attacked by a group of cannibals (led by Jason Momoa), barely escaping alive to a bizarre settlement run by a charismatic leader (Keanu Reeves). Other actors include Jim Carrey, Giovanni Ribisi, and Diego Luna. It was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. It was released in theaters on June 23, 2017, by Neon. www.wyrdrealities.net follow us on social linktr.ee/wyrdrealities --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wyrd-realities/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wyrd-realities/support

Continuing with our season of manga about being a manga artist, we talk about the first volume of Shunju Aono's fictional story ‘I'll Give It My All.. Tomorrow', (Orewamada Honkidashitenaidake). Where a 42 year-old Salaryman quits his job to become a successful manga artist. How delusional is such a man is something we will find out. Skip synopsis @ 5:08 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com   079: I'll Give It My all… Tomorrow vol. 1 By Shunju Aono Translation by Akemi Wegmuller Lettering by Steven Rhyse   Synopsis: The middle aged Shizuo Oguro quits his fulltime job as a salary man to become a manga artist, or colloquially speaking a mangaka. Much to the malaise of his father and his teenage daughter, Suzuko, who he lives with. In between drawing manga and meeting publishers he works part time slinging burgers and serving fries. Shizuo is an easily distracted man, he likes spending time drinking with his long-time friend Miyata and playing videogames at home, during one of his distractions he discovers that Suzuko is a sex worker, as a favour he asks her to leave and instead to focus on her exams. He is also quickly swayed by the influence of others, he'll do stunts on his bike when he sees kids are off school, simply to gain some semblance of glory. Shizuo will also project his insecurities onto Miyata and when he sleeps, he dreams of a person, presumably the voice of God if not Shizuo's subconscious, confronting Shizuo on his laziness. When Shizuo meets the 26-year-old Shuichi Ichinosawa he finds inspiration to draw up a hard-boiled delinquent manga. In a bonus chapter we are also introduced to Yukiko, a young woman who struggles to find purpose and meaning in her life. And it seems that by befriending Shizuo it has in some ways saved her life. Topics: Shunju Aono's humour, particularly Shizuo's dad crying when told his son wants to be mangaka. And walking in on Shizuo as he sees him dressed in school uniform. Shizuo's beliefs and tenants, how they are formed by the people around him. We see characters have fully formed beliefs in fiction all the time but it is a sign of a good writer when you can see how the character develops them and reflects the views of other characters if not project their views on to others. James compares the Shizuo character to Alita in Yukito Kishiro's Gunnm series; both characters have strong beliefs yet one is amnesiac. People who have found success later in life and the stakes of attempting to do so. Purpose and Meaning of Life. What the Shizuo character and the story tells us on a personal level and how it speaks to our own fears of growing old. Other references:   Aika – At the time of the manga's original published run she was a very popular real life Japanese singer and saxophone player that Suzuko listens to. Her music tends to be categorized under the pop genre with rock and jazz influence. Furthermore, in 2011, Aika released “Dancing Arrows” that was used as the official theme song/promotion song of the Hollywood movie “Ironclad” featuring Academy Award nominee and golden globe winner Paul Giamatti (Barney's Version, 12 years a slave), Brian Cox (Troy, X-men), Kate Mara (House of Cards), James Purefoy (The following). Aika also sings the theme song for the award-winning movie “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” featuring Tina Fey. Furthermore, Aika co-wrote the song “Save Your Life” for platinum artist Daniel Powter, featuring Ayaka Hirahara. Her latest release “Heard and Angel” debuted at Spotify “Best of Indie” playlist. Konowata, despite the name “Sea Cucumber”, this is not a vegan food and is basically salty seafood. Apparently, Suzuko reads “Dazai”, most likely a reference to the Japanese writer/author Osamu Dazai. His most famous work outside of Japan is ‘No Longer Human', which has been adapted to manga form twice now by Usamaru Furuya and Junji Ito. Its fair to say that this has been an influence on Shunju Aono. Facebook Instagram Twitter Official Website   Email

And James and Steve can't help but compare it to films like Aliens, War movies and Westerns, not bad for a cyberpunk story, no? Skip summary @6:27 071: Battle Angel Alita vol. 6 Chapters 30 to 35 “Judgement Day” and “Rainmaker” By Yukito Kishiro Translation by Stephen Paul Lettering by Scott Brown   Synopsis After the defeat of Zapan, Alita is condemned to disposal for the crime of using a firearm. However, she is saved by a man known as the Director Bigott Eizenburg, he communicates to her via a dream in the middle of her disposal procedure before saving her, Alita is hesitant to believe him, but when Bigott reveals that he is after Desty Nova it is then that Alita decides to work for his group TUNED, in the hopes that she can find Ido by tracking Nova. We head towards an ambiguous time in the future where the authority of the scrapyard a.k.a. ‘the Factory' hires mercenaries to protect their cargo from a gang of bandits. A man called Figure Four Joins them, his most distinctive trait is that he is an organic flesh and blood man who is able to fight machines and cyborgs through his Qi and Hertza Hauen martial arts. He meets another mercenary, Yorg, who warns him about the dangerous woman on the other carriage. Alita. Figure Four introduces himself to Alita by pinching her harmonica and playing it badly! Luckily for him Alita finds him charming. The train is attacked by Bandits. Their leader being Knuclehead. Alita manages to extinguish this threat and keep Knuclehead detained, cutting his vocal cord so that he can no longer make verbal threats. During the attack the nuclear-powered train went into meltdown, both Figure Four, Yorg and Alita survive the fallout by ditching the train; but it becomes apparent that the two men only slow Alita down. This leads to a tense discussion with Bigott on deciding the fate of the men. Figure chooses to settle things by fighting Alita. He loses. And he wakes finding out Alita has left him with Yorg and took off in a Dune Buggy. A lot happens during these events, Alita obviously has a conscience, and Yorg has a family back home so she returns to pick up the men, but a cyclone creates the contrivance of losing Knuckehead and Alita and the mercenaries stubble upon ruins of a city not knowing at first that it is a military base owned by Barjack. The whole cyclone ordeal has Figure tie up Alita and scavenge for rations until he can trust her again. And although Alita is very happy to be fed by Figure Four, the man isn't exactly a smooth operator when it comes to winning Alita over. A repaired Knucklehead returns with reinforcements, a party of the Barjack rebellion lead by Colonel Bozzle. Alita gives away her position by screaming and shooting at a butterfly, apparently the appearance of beady eyes on its wings creep her out. A shot from a tank targets them. Alita manages to save them due to the wall that falls having smashed out windows. Bozzle is an old friend of Yorg's and so Yorg sides with Bozzle in order to save his himself, this brings confusion to the fight and Alita is apprehended whilst Figure Four is left for dead. Alita loses her legs and is interrogated by Bozzle yet Knuclehead is angry at being used as bait for the attack on Alita, Knuckehead attacks Bozzle and his socket soldiers. He kidnaps Alita and in their final showdown Figure manages to make a surprise attack and save Alita. Alita goes to give Figure a kiss until she is interrupted by gunfire. Bozzle and an unknown socket soldier have survived and seem to want to settle the score. In a twist of fate, the soldier is Yorg, and his final act of redemption is to rebel against Bozzle. Yorg dies in the arms of Figure and Bozzle dies too. After burying Yorg, Alita and Figure travel on foot through the desert wasteland, with one last bastion of hope being that Figure thinks he can make it rain by singing. And you know what? By some miracle it does. Why fish is pouring from the Sky has yet to explained. Topics The ending and the ambiguity of the miracle. The disposal scene. The train ambush attack. The romance between Alita and Figure Four. Yorg as a character. Other references Figure Four is the second character appearing to use Hertza Hauen and Qi, the first being Jasugun during the Motorball arc. The Dryad Butterfly, Minois Dryas. Alita shares the fear of this butterfly with the Author Yukito Kishiro. Volume 6 contains visual allusions to the 1987 movie, Robocop, Alita smashes her hand through a wall to grab a soldier by surprise. And the socket Soldiers themselves are based on Peter Weller's costume and bald cap headpiece in the movie. Yukito Kishiro must have thought the bald cyborg in that film resembled a lightbulb and the socket soldiers are screwed into their bodies through such a way. This is no surprise since, Kishiro has mentioned how at one point he hoped the Robocop director, Paul Verhoeven would direct a live action film version of Alita/Gunnm, according to the October 1993 interview in Animerica magazine with Seiji Horibuchi. For Kishiro's interview and more you can purchase this book here. You can also find old scans and transcripts online too. After the ApocalypseA Pandemic Survival StorySeason two, Episode three “The Hungry River”Janet glared through the sleet, up the hill, searching for the Humvees that she expected to appear over the crest at any moment.   “Persistent deadbeats…” She swore under her breath as the chain saw chattered in her hands. She knew if she could slow them down, even for a minute, it might give the bus enough time to escape....Outro S2 E3https://shows.acast.com/after-the-apocalypse Hello and welcome back survivors. Here we are, episode 3 of season two and it feels like we're hitting our stride. This was a fun episode to construct. I love the visual of the river devouring the bridge.  Just a great picture in my mind's eye. The other thing that happened here, not to give you too much of the sausage-making, was a roller coaster ride. It's a series of tension builds and releases, where we are just letting you off the hook and we slap you again with a new shock wave.  I would be interested in your feedback on how all that worked for you. We are moving right along in season 2 and keeping up our production schedule. Which is great because I've been super-busy in my real job.  Last weekend was the Wasteland Weekend.  We'll have to ask Mike Darling how it all turned out this year with the actual apocalypse still going on in the US. It sounded like they had a full schedule out there in the desert and that attendance was going to be good. As a reminder that is a desert festival every year with an apocalypse theme. Which sounds scary and dangerous – but probably is just a lot of fun.  Imagine you're out for a hike in the desert and you come across a gang of folks dressed like Mad Max characters? Would you be scared? You probably shouldn't be. In my experience the folks that do this type of character playing aren't the dangerous types, they're the arty types. I‘ll tell you a story. A few years back I had to drive into Boston to pick up my daughter who was attending Anime Boston, one of the big regional conventions. I pull into the Marriott and the place is full of kids in bizarre costumes. Monsters, aliens, etc. you get it. And I asked the bellman who was standing there if this was a hard week for the hotel with all these crazy, costumed kids hanging about? And, he said, “No, they're just nice kids. No trouble at all. Last week we had the police convention, and they tore the place up.” That was a lesson for me. You can't judge a book by it's cover so to speak. Speaking of books and covers, I'm still stalled out on the season one manuscript. I've been super busy. But, I'll keep working on it. As long as I'm still creating new content the offering just keeps getting stronger. Sampled a couple new Apocalypse type media pieces this last week that I'll share. I watched Alita Battle Angel 2019 American cyberpunk action film based on Japanese manga artist Yukito Kishiro's 1990s series Battle Angel Alita. It is loosely a cyber-punk themed future Earth after some apocalyptic war with Mars.   But this only has a pasing cyber-punk content, it's more of an anime themed film. I have always loved the cyber-punk genre of science fiction. Neil Stephenson's Snow Crash was a revelation in 1992. It brought cool to tech. I wasn't that much of a comic book or anime kid.  Anyhow, what keeps this film from being the same as every other Anime-marshal-arts film is it's investment level and pedigree. It was produced by James Cameron, while he was making Avatar and you can see the Avatar influence. Especially that mildly creepy performance captured animation.  It was directed by Robert Rodriguez, yes that Robert Rodriguez of El Mariachi Fame and, by the way you should read his book Rebel without a crew if you haven't, it's a fantastic glimpse into the making of a director.  I bet Makeshift sleeps with a copy under his pillow. Alita is a decent story and a watchable movie. It's got some good acting and tries hard.  Worth a watch if you're decompressing after a long day in the salt mines. I also watched the original Ip Man movie. This is a Chinese martial arts movie dubbed in English with the subtitles. But, it's a Chinese marshal arts movie, so do you really need subtitles? Do you really need dialogue? It is just one big marshal art movie trope, but somehow it works. It think it's because the main character, played by Donnie Yen, is just so likable. So again, worth a watch if you've got time on your hands and is currently on Netflix. The protagonist, Ip Man, is based very loosely on the story of the kung fu master who trained Bruce Lee.  And if you don't know who Bruce Lee is then there is no hope for you. I am still working my way through Heinlein's Stranger in a strange land. I'll have more thoughts on it when I get to the end. It gets a bit slow in the middle. Next, our friend Dave, one of the editors here at Apocalypse HQ, tipped us off to an apocalypse podcast story. It is on a podcast named StarShipSofa – all one word and the story he tipped me to is episode 603. It is a story by Elad Haber titled “Number One Hit” read by Jonathan Danz. I listened to it on my long bike ride last weekend and it was outstanding. So my survivor friends, I hope you're enjoying Season two.  We are up over 25,000 downloads. As always you can leap over and join us at the Facebook group by searching for ‘oldmanapocalypse'. I've been informed by one of you that you can just search for “After the Apocalypse” in FaceBook and that will probably get you there. The URL is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/oldmanapocalypseYou can find these notes on ACast with all the links imbedded and you can help keep the show going on Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/AftertheApocalypseAnd Do me a favor – Keep Surviving! Battle Angel.

Welcome to the fifth episode of 'Cinemafia' – the film-review show where one of us lies. This Week: 'Alita: Battle Angel' – a 2019 American cyberpunk action film directed by Robert Rodriquez, based on the original Japanese manga 'Gunnm' by Yukito Kishiro. As always, we recommend you watch the film before listening, as we don't go over the plot in detail and much of our discussion may otherwise be meaningless and frustrating (if it isn't already). The premise: we review a film, but one of the hosts (the Mafia) is covertly distorting their opinion, and it's the job of the other hosts (the Villagers) to deduce who the Mafia is and thus vote for their lynching... while at the same time everyone (hopefully) provides engaging critical analysis. If you would like to know who the Mafia is before listening, head to https://tinyurl.com/cinemafiaspoilers. Next week we will be reviewing 'The Princess and the Frog' – a 2009 American animated musical produced by Walt Disney Studios and directed by Ron Clements & John Musker, so give that a watch in readiness for next week’s dose of your favourite disingenuous film-review podcast. ________________________________________________________________ Official Podcast: Youtube – Apple Podcasts – Podbean Instagram: @cinemafiapodcast

The origin of Alita: Battle Angel starts with Yukito Kishiro's intricately plotted 1990 manga, something this adaptation has to simplify in order to make it palatable for wide-release audiences.  The setting is an Earth five centuries from now, a mostly tumultuous and vice-filled world that suffers even more by comparison to the life of luxury from the beaming city utopia called Zalem that floats above their heads. Christoph Waltz plays Dr. Ido, a brilliant scientist who has been through he trash-heaps of history to find something of value and meaning. Ido soon discovers the remnants of a robotic entity, taking it back to his lab for rehabilitation, resulting in a cyborg creation he has dubbed “Alita” (which was also the name of the daughter he lost in a tragedy), who has the mind of a teenage girl and hard-shell body to match. She walks, talks and understands, but one thing she can't readily do is remember who she is or why she exists. Ido provides fatherly guidance, but Alita is drawn to battle and action by her nature, stoked further by an interest in the local boy named Hugo, who sees more potential in Alita's abilities that could make her formidable in a world that values such adept skills in the arena of conflict.

They begin with a classic, the first volume of Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita. Kodansha Comics has recently started to release this legendary cyberpunk series in nice deluxe hardbound editions -- the second deluxe volume is due for release in late February -- and the guys are excited that the title is back in print. Neither Shea nor Derek was familiar with Battle Angel Alita before, outside of hearing about the upcoming James Cameron/Robert Rodriguez film adaptation due out in 2018, but now both are hooked. In their overview, the guys highlight the kinetic quality of the illustrations, the ways in which Kishiro contextualizes even his most nasty characters, the complexities (and embedded mysteries) of his storyworld, and the ways in which he visualizes the title character...which, for Shea at least, is a little problematic. Next, they look at Abi Umeda's Children of the Whales, Vol. 1 (VIZ Media). This is another post-apocalyptic narrative -- at least the guys think things are set in a post-apocalyptic world -- and the storyworld that Umeda maps out is quite complex. In fact, as Derek suggests, there are so many nuances in this first volume that the story runs the risk of toppling over due to sheer ambiguity. However, the author is able to maintain a comprehendible balance in her tale, although several passages may require more than one reading. There are a lot of questions posed in this book, and while Derek is willing to continue on in future volumes to get the fuller picture, Shea isn't as enamored of the story. While he admires Umeda's art, he feels that the story's premise, especially as it relates to the Committee of Elders, may be a bit too predictable. Still, Derek feel that the volume is worth checking out.
