The climate crisis got horribly real this summer – but is it really true that ordinary people can't do anything about it? The National Emergency Briefing is a growing movement around a stunning documentary film that makes clear the reality of the crisis and what we CAN do about it. Green economist Angela Francis joins us to explain where the fight for a liveable climate is heading; how to beat the  Reform angle that it's just too expensive so we might as well not bother; and bring surprisingly good news about tech, investment and the coming battery.  Plus, house prices are falling (in some places), ULEZ is working, and Donald Trump decides North Korea is his favourite Korea. Well, it can't all be good news. • Find a screening of the National Emergency Briefing here and if there isn't one near you, you can request one.  ESCAPE ROUTES • Hannah went to see Jimmy Eat World and Rise Against at Crystal Palace Bowl.  • Jason has been enjoying the podcast Kevin Eldon's Speakers   • Angela has been reading How To Lose A Country by Ece Temelkuran and finally watching Call My Agent on Netflix.  • Matt watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day.  Buy books through our affiliate bookshop and you'll help fund the podcast by earning us a small commission for every sale. Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

On this week's rerun episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Eyedress. Born in Manila, Eyedress came to the US at five years old, moving through Arizona and California — discovering punk and skate culture along the way — before his family returned to the Philippines when he was 15. After years of self-releasing lo-fi bedroom recordings and slowly building an online following, he broke through with 2020's Let's Skip to the Wedding, which spawned global hits "Jealous" and "Romantic Lover" and eventually led to a deal with RCA. Since then, he's collaborated with artists like Mac DeMarco, King Krule, and Harmony Korine, carving out a sound that's equal parts woozy, nostalgic, and entirely his own. Eyedress and Joel dig into his journey from a rough childhood to building a life and family on his own terms, the anxiety that still follows him even after years of success, and why he believes the biggest leap of faith he ever took was also the best decision he ever made. Cosy fantasy, famous fathers, and spinning fact into fiction, with author Naomi Ishiguro. Our guest today is British author Naomi Ishiguro. She’s the author of the short story collection, Escape Routes, and the novel, Common Ground. If her name rings a bell, it could be because her dad is the Nobel Prize-winning author, Kazuo Ishiguro. The first book from her new fantasy series, The Rainshadow Series, is now out in the world. Book one, The Rainshadow Orphans, is a cosy fantasy read blending magical whimsy with real-world political stakes. In Bookmarked, Naomi recommends Nina Mingya Powles’ Tiny Moons: A Year of Eating in Shanghai and Small Bodies of Water. Enjoy! Follow Naomi Ishiguro here and Culture Club podcast here. Lehman Ave Church of Christ
"Finding Your Escape Route (1 Corinthians 10)" by Neal Pollard

Lehman Ave Church of Christ

February 8, 2026 - Sunday AM Sermon   This episode weaves together worship, Scripture, and practical counsel as the speaker moves from congregational singing to a focused lesson on escaping the traps of sin. The episode opens with a celebration of singing after deliverance — referencing Moses and Miriam at the Red Sea and noting early Christian practice (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16). Using the modern metaphor of escape rooms, Neal frames sin as a spiritual trap: universal, persistent, and learned. Citing Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Romans 3:23, he emphasizes that everyone stumbles and that ongoing struggle with sin is normal. The poem “Autobiography in Five Short Chapters” by Portia Nelson is used to illustrate stages of change and the hope of walking a different street. The core of the message draws from 1 Corinthians chapters 8–10, where Paul warns the Corinthian church about idolatry, immorality, and testing God. The speaker extracts four practical steps from Paul for breaking free: 1) avoid negative influences that lead to idolatry or immorality; 2) cultivate contentment and gratitude rather than grumbling (Philippians 4:11); 3) be honest about your vulnerability and avoid overconfidence; and 4) do not love anything or anyone more than God. Biblical examples (the Israelites' failures, Exodus 32, Numbers 25) and cultural warnings (the influence of permissive philosophies) illustrate why these steps matter. Practical next steps and pastoral counsel are offered: confess sin (1 John 1:9), seek accountability and help from others (James 5:16), and rely on God's faithfulness and the promise of a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). The speaker stresses that asking for help is not weakness but humility and courage, and he encourages listeners who are spiritually lost or struggling to respond to the gospel or request further study and support. The episode closes with an appeal to stand and sing in response and a reminder that, even if you feel overwhelmed, God provides a path out — whether through private repentance, communal accountability, or the saving work of Christ. Expect Scripture-rich teaching, practical application, pastoral compassion, and invitations to worship and prayer.   Handout: FINDING YOUR ESCAPE ROUTE (1 Corinthians 10)  Neal Pollard  Introduction    A. Nobody wants to imagine a large-scale war in Europe. But after Putin invaded Ukraine and Trump tore up Europe's security guarantee, it's horribly plausible. Is Russia as powerful as Putin wants us to think? Is there more to military power than tanks and guns? Why do strategists keep making the wrong predictions? And what does Pete Hegseth's unhinged locker-rom pep talk/incitement to the US military to commit war crimes mean for any American role in the world? In a fascinating, surprise-packed conversation Phillips Payson O'Brien, Professor of Strategic Studies at St Andrews University and author of new book War and Power: Who Wins Wars and Why gives Andrew Harrison and Jacob Jarvis an urgent update on the realities of military power.  • Buy War and Power through our affiliate bookshop and you'll help fund OGWN by earning us a small commission for every sale. Bookshop.org's fees help support independent bookshops too. It seems like there's no end to the horrors in Gaza, the torment of the Israeli hostages and Netanyahu's expansionism. And the more events escalate, the less we understand this nightmare. Today we're joined by UCL politics professor Julie Norman to take as sober a look as possible at how the Middle East has changed after the October 7 attacks and Israel's devastating response. Is Netanyahu prolonging the war to say in power? Does it fit the description of a genocide? And what happens next? Plus we have excellent questions on this topic in a special But Your Emails.  This episode was recorded before the anti-war protests in Israel over the weekend. • Don't forget you can watch full video of our panel editions on Spotify.  If ever we needed ESCAPE ROUTES it's this week… • Julie recommends Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run on its 50th anniversary.  • Raf recommends The Genius Myth by Helen Lewis.  • Andrew recommends Alien Earth on Disney+.  When you buy books through our affiliate bookshop you help fund the podcast by earning us a small commission for every sale. Bookshop.org's fees help support independent bookshops too. • Get our exclusive NordVPN deal here https://nordvpn.com/ohgodwhatnow. Dr. Phil goes on a drive-along with Sheriffs on Arizona's “Smuggler's Highway”. This border situation has become a political powder keg, with both sides of the aisle using it as ammunition in this upcoming election in just a few weeks. But tonight, we're focusing on the Arizona border. With 378 miles of shared border with Mexico, divided into the Tucson and Yuma sectors, Dr. Phil meets up with Sheriff Mark Lamb who offers to take him on a “drive-along” on that stretch of road where high-speed chases happen every day putting everyone on the road at risk. And sometimes, it ends tragically. Take the story of Wanda Sitoski. Her daughter, Valarie sits down with Dr. Phil to talk about how her mother's life was cut short when a 16-year-old American smuggler running from the law crashed right into her…killing her instantly. And Dr. Phil meets Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels who says he and his team are trying to protect 6219 square miles of rugged terrain. Plus our camera crew goes on a dangerous chase with Sheriff Dannels Interdiction Team.
