Sunday 11th May 2025 - West and North SitesSunday 18th May 2025 - Central AM & PMSpeaker - Pete SpiersIn the latest in the “Now Go!” series, Pete examines the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch recorded in Acts 8, and lists some of the barriers that we encounter when we want to share the gospel with others. He highlights the growing openness to faith in society, and encourages us to engage in evangelism through prayer, compassion, and courage._________________Acts 8 v 26-4026) Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, ‘Go south to the road – the desert road – that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.' 27) So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means ‘queen of the Ethiopians'). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28) and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29) The Spirit told Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.'30) Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. ‘Do you understand what you are reading?' Philip asked.31) ‘How can I,' he said, ‘unless someone explains it to me?' So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.32) This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:‘He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.33) In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.'[b]34) The eunuch asked Philip, ‘Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?' 35) Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.36 ) As they travelled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptised?' 38) And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptised him. 39) When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40) Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and travelled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.Recorded at West Site - 11May2025
Send us a textArnie, Fred and Glenn continue their discussion of what the Bible says about Christ's Church or men's churches. In this episode, we begin our discussion about the membership of Christ's Church. We begin by noting what Peter said about the saved when he preached the first gospel sermon on Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. We next look at what Jesus said that individuals who heard the gospel were required to do. We return to Acts chapter 2 to note that some of those who heard Peters sermon that were convicted of having Jesus crucified, wanted to know what they must do because of what they did. We talk about his answer. There was an Ethiopian eunuch, a proselyte Jew, who was returning to his home country that Philip was sent by the Holy Spirit to teach. He was reading from Isaiah chapter 53 and invited Philip up into his chariot to learn what it meant. We note what Philip told him and what the eunuch said and did. We next move on to talk about the name Christian and when it was applied to Christ's disciples. We close out this episode by looking at how long Christ's Church and words will last. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

This week we're reading the story of Philip, and the Ethiopian eunuch as told in Acts 8:26-39. In that story, an angel tells Philip to approach the chariot of an Ethiopian eunuch who is heading home from his visit to the Temple in Jerusalem. When he approaches the chariot, Philip hears the eunuch reading Isaiah 53, one of the songs of the suffering servant. When the eunuch asks Phillip to help him understand, Phillip interprets the gospel for him, leading the eunuch to ask for baptism. We discuss the role of Philip in this text as a human intermediary for the Holy Spirit, going where he is called and meeting people where they are. And we discuss the eunuch, who has been seeking community elsewhere but finally finds full welcome in the community of Christians. And we wrestle with our own offerings of the welcome, and the ways that we, too, can be conduits of the Spirit, knowing when to teach and when to get out of the way.

The Gospel Illustrated: The Ethiopian Eunuch Introduction: In our last two lessons we have explored how we should be thinking and responding when the scriptures refer to the “gospel.” We have had a narrow view of the Lord's purpose for us by thinking that the Lord is just trying to “get us saved.” This has […] The post The Gospel Illustrated: The Ethiopian Eunuch appeared first on Woodland Hills Church of Christ.

In Acts 8, we meet two men on different journeys who model one thing: simple obedience to Jesus. Whether you're a seasoned disciple or brand new in faith, God's invitation is the same — hear Him, trust Him, and follow.
Acts 8_26-40—Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch by Lettered Streets Covenant
In one of our most horrifying episodes yet, we look at a man who clamped and amputated the genitals of potentially hundreds of men, and carried out unimaginable sexual torture – all from his basement flat in North London. But what makes this story truly unbelievable is that every one of those victims wanted for it to happen. They belonged to a secretive community of 'nullos' – people who fantasise about the removal of sexual organs. And each procedure was filmed and streamed for a waiting online community of tens of thousands of members. There, disembodied penises and testicles were auctioned off… and even eaten. It's time to discover the savage online empire of the Eunuch Maker.Exclusive bonus content:Wondery - Ad-free & ShortHandPatreon - Ad-free & Bonus EpisodesFollow us on social media:YouTubeTikTokInstagramVisit our website:WebsiteSources available on redhandedpodcast.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Luke 19:10 // Matthew 9:13, 37-38 // Mark 16:15-16 // John 20:21 “…Making disciples is fairly easy. You simply bring people along in your spiritual journey. Making disciples is more about intentionality than technique: Discipleship means teaching others to read the Bible the way you read it, pray the way you pray, and tell people about Jesus the way you do. If you have Christian habits in your life worth imitating, you can be a disciple-maker. It doesn't require years of training. You just teach others to follow Christ as you follow Him.” — J.D. This week, Adnan teaches on the encounter between Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8. We look at what the story reveals about listening to God's Spirit, believing that he has something to say to each of us, and how hearing God is rooted in Scripture.
This is message 19 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 18:1-7 Ethiopia's role in biblical prophecy reveals God's sovereignty over nations and His control over history. Though powerful in trade and diplomacy, Ethiopia's alliances could not secure its future—only the Lord could. In time, Ethiopia would recognize His authority, bringing tribute to Zion and embracing the truth of God. From the Queen of Sheba's visit to Solomon to the Ethiopian eunuch's conversion, the nation's spiritual journey reflects God's plan to draw all people to Himself. On January 20, 2025, and within hours of returning to power, the Trump administration issued an executive order that the U.S. government would recognize only two genders, male and female, defined at birth. In contrast, in 2014, the Supreme Court of India ruled that transgender people have the right to self-identify as male, female, or a “third gender.” The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act of 2019 in India allows transgender people to have a self-declared gender identity and receive a certificate of identity. It is currently estimated that there are more than 3 million third-gender people living in India alone. Similar rulings and laws have been passed in neighboring Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. What are the implications and impacts on the transgender people of the rest of Asia and the United States? At a time when the current U.S. administration has issued an executive order recognizing only two genders, we will discuss this and other issues with Amrita Sarkar, one of the leading transgender activists of India, and Zia Jaffrey, author of The Invisibles: A Tale of Eunuchs of India. Amrita Sarkar is a leading activist who has been working for the transgender community and their wellbeing for more than two decades and has been involved in numerous capacity-building initiatives for the same communities at the national and international level. She is the one of the founding members and the Secretary of IRGT – A Global Network of Trans Women and HIV. She also has made two films on transgender issues. Amrita is a trained counsellor and had completed her post-graduation in social welfare. Zia Jaffrey is the author of The Invisibles: A Tale of the Eunuchs of India (Pantheon/Vintage). She has written cover stories, features, and book reviews for many publications, including Vogue, The Nation, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Elle, where she ran the front of the magazine, wrote literary pieces, and cultivated new voices. Her work has been anthologized in several tomes, most recently, in PEN America's India at 75, and Toni Morrison: The Last Interview and Other Conversations. She has covered South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings, AIDS, and the Israel/Palestine conflict, and is currently writing a book about Palestinian-Americans. Meet Stilicho, the half Vandal, half Roman soldier who joins Emperor Theodosius' bodyguard in his late teens, catches the eye of the emperor's niece, marries into the imperial family, and rises to the highest military ranks in the Empire! A devoutly loyal and honest man, Stilicho makes a plethora of enemies along the way, but never loses sight of his loyalties, to Emperor and nation. Amongst those enemies are Rufinus the Prefect, Eutropius the Eunuch, and a young Goth warlord who would be king someday, Alaric. This is the origin story of two of the most consequential, and mysterious men in the final chapters of the West.
These two parables are interesting in their similarity (give everything for it), and their difference (one was searching, one just happens to find it), something like the Eunuch searching and the Philippian jailer who happened upon the truth. Hi friends, happy Wednesday! Over many cultures and many years, being a Eunuch--or someone who has been castrated--has meant something different. Like In ancient China, Eunuchs were thought to be more trustworthy, so they became political advisors. Or In Italy, they realized it stopped men's voices from developing. So Eunuchs formed a special class of opera singers. Sometimes the process of becoming a Eunuch was voluntary… And other times… not so much. It was done by force or even coercion. But where did these traditions start? Well my friends, today, we're talking about the dark history of … EUNUCHS. I appreciate you coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History. ________ FOLLOW ME AROUND Tik Tok: https://bit.ly/3e3jL9v Instagram: http://bit.ly/2nbO4PR Facebook: http://bit.ly/2mdZtK6 Twitter: http://bit.ly/2yT4BLV Pinterest: http://bit.ly/2mVpXnY Youtube: http://bit.ly/1HGw3Og Snapchat: https://bit.ly/3cC0V9d Discord: https://discord.gg/BaileySarian RECOMMEND A STORY HERE: cases4bailey@gmail.com Business Related Emails: baileysarianteam@wmeagency.com Business Related Mail: Bailey Sarian 4400 W. Fr. Mike focuses on the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch and how it demonstrates the importance of having guidance when reading Scripture. Although God's Word is infallible, we can easily misunderstand it without proper interpretation, which is why we have the Magisterium of the Church. Lastly, Fr. Mike also touches on the role of persecution in the life of the Church, and St. Paul's encouragement to abide by the law of love. Today we read Acts 8, Romans 13-14, and Proverbs 27:15-17.
