The summer is slowly starting to wind down and we could not think of a better person to talk with us at this time than Erica Wiggenhorn! Erica is an award-winning author and is the founder of Every Life Ministries. We're so thankful to have her as a part of our church family! If you are a woman who attends Bible Study at Desert Springs, you have probably been a part of one of the studies Erica has written. In this interview we had the opportunity to speak with Erica on a personal level. We really appreciate Erica's realness; you're going to feel like you're catching up with a friend you've had forever over coffee. Erica's story starts in her time at Azusa Pacific University where she met her husband Jonathan (that's a funny story that you'll have to listen to hear). They married shortly after graduating college and later moved to Michigan for Jonathan's schooling. Moving to Michigan was a big step as Erica had never left California. This move is where she learned to seek out and cultivate real community. Life was bringing Erica a lot as she was trying to balance her husband's demanding schedule with her own career all while struggling with infertility. Having Christian community became vital while navigating all of these things. They ended up moving to North Carolina and then eventually Arizona to care for Erica's ailing father. We're thankful the Wiggenhorn family was able to become a part of Desert Springs after moving to Arizona. Multiple moves, being a new mom, the death of her father and the stresses of work were leaving Erica feeling exhausted and on the verge of burnout. She prayed in desperation to know God in a real way - and God's answer to Erica was to begin studying Ezekiel. This began the road to becoming the author so many of us know now. You're going to want to take notes as SO much wisdom is scattered throughout this real and candid conversation about what it takes to develop real and lasting community. God can really move when we being to take those initial steps. You'll hear so much about the groundwork that was laid simply by Erica taking the steps that were in front of her. God is always leading us into community with Him and others; we just have to follow. These show notes can hardly sum up this conversation, you've got to listen!Learn more about Erica and her ministry: https://ericawiggenhorn.comErica's books and Bible studies: https://ericawiggenhorn.com/books/Connect with Erica on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ericawiggenhorn/?hl=enWould you please subscribe and leave us a review? Episode Summary:  Do you long to feel a closer connection to God? To discern His voice, experience His peace, and live in His joy? Erica Wiggenhorn and I talk about how to experience God's faithfulness when surrounded by uncertainty, how to reignite our hope instead of losing heart, and how to realize the call of God, reawakening our purpose when we experience revival in our own hearts. Quotables from the episode: Revival is a personal heart cry before God, asking Him to meet us in our desperation and brokenness. We tend to doubt our beliefs and believe our doubts because of distraction, and as a result, God feels far away. Doubt can be the doorway to intimacy with God. Revival brings us to God who can do anything and is always doing the best for us. The enemy's desire is to cause us to doubt God's character. There is no intimacy without first an investment of time. Faith is always intermeshed with fear. What we see as punishment, like God saying no to a request, may actually be God's protection for us. Scripture References: Ezekiel 11:19-20 “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from then their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.” Ezekiel 20:42 “Then. You will know that I am the Lord, when I bring. You into the land of Israel, the land I had sworn with uplifted hand to give to your ancestors.” Recommended Resources:  The Unexpected Revival: Experiencing God's Goodness Through Disappointment and Doubt by Erica Wiggenhorn Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. Ready for an unexpected revival? Today's guest, Erica Wiggenhorn, shares how true revival differs from its usual definitions and has an awesome impact on each person's quality of life.  Erica Wiggenhorn is the founder of Every Life Ministries, bringing the truths of Scripture to transform lives. With An Unexpected Revival being her fifth release from Moody Publishers, she also serves on the writing team for Proverbs 31 Ministries' First 5 Teaching App, teaches in various local and national venues, and serves on the women's ministry leadership team for her church. She's also taught women in the Arizona State Prison system and overseas. Wiggenhorn explores how we seek revival externally, while God often chooses to change everything beginning within those who seek him. The Lord affects great transformation by revitalizing the inner being of one individual at a time. Erica shares the needs expressed by those she surveyed, noting people voiced a desire to learn how to pray more powerfully and grow more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. What does it look like to live and pray in the power of the Holy Spirit? We discuss the vital role of the Spirit in our faith journey and spiritual strength. We also explore the relational nature of God's heart for us in the process of revival. Wiggenhorn examines the Hebrew terms that demonstrate the loving, tender motive of the Father seeking to draw us into a closer relationship with him. She emphasizes how we can intentionally immerse ourselves in the goodness of God. Erica illustrates the concept of revival in the context of a loving, grace-centered Father. She shares two practical steps toward experiencing a powerful, life-changing revival and the closest possible relationship with the Lord. Repentance (not shame, but honesty) - Let go of the toxic behaviors, transgressions, and thoughts and turn away from them so you can turn toward Christ. Ask God what is keeping you from fully experiencing relationship with him. Reckoning among the leaders who slipped away from their purpose. Resist the onslaught of discouragement when sin in leadership is exposed, but instead recognize God's faithfulness when he purifies and holds leaders accountable. Wiggenhorn encourages listeners to begin intentionally seeking revival instead of growing numb or following a meaningless checklist of duties.  She emphasizes the unique, individual ways we each connect with God. How do you connect with the Lord? In hiking? In prayer? In Bible study? Wiggenhorn notes our ways could be different, but we each need to invest time and attention into our relationship with the Lord. Erica shares her personal story of having struggled with scripture as her motivation for making the Bible accessible and relevant in the studies she writes. Erica is the founder of Every Life Ministries and is the author of both Bible studies and books. Her most recent Bible study is An Unexpected Revival which studies the book of Ezekiel. She is also the author of Letting God be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck & How Surrender Sets You Free - which focuses on the life of Moses.   Take a few minutes to meditate on Acts 7:20-25 and then listen in to hear where God led Erica.   Some highlights from our conversation: How Erica thought the Bible was confusing when she started reading it – and how she wondered why she didn't get the secret decoder ring everyone else seemed to have. God's very specific timing – in the life of Moses, the nation of Israel and in our lives. How God viewed Moses versus how Moses saw himself… and how this may be true for us as well. The lessons we can learn from Moses's problem with relying on his own timing and method.   You can find Erica at https://ericawiggenhorn.com/ Follow on Instagram: @ericawiggenhorn Follow on Facebook: @EricaWiggenhornAuthor   The exact verses read in this podcast are Acts 7:20-25, NIV 20 “At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for by his family. 21 When he was placed outside, Pharaoh's daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. 22 Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action. 23 “When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his own people, the Israelites. 24 He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. 25 Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.

Today, on Karl and Crew Mornings, we continued our weekly theme: "The Wisdom of Proverbs", and we discussed the wisdom in our words.  Words are a reflection of our hearts.  Words can cut, or they can encourage.  There is power in the tongue, and only the Holy Spirit has the power to change our hearts.  How did God give you victory over your speech?  The scripture references were Proverbs 18:21 and Proverbs 4:23.  One of our guests was Erica Wiggenhorn.  She is the founder of Every Life Ministries and author of "An Unexpected Revival: Experiencing God's Goodness Through Disappointment and Doubt".  We also talked with Wes Ward, the new Vice President of Moody Radio.  He shared about MBI's Fiscal Year End campaign.  Finally, this is week three of our Bible memorization campaign, "Summer of 10".  The scripture passage is Hebrews 4:16.  You can listen to the Karl and Crew Showcast to hear highlights of today's program.      See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

One of the first things that invades our minds when God calls us to some new ministry or way of life is self-doubt, the haunting feeling that what God wants is just too far beyond us. Moses is the classic biblical case, told to become the instrument of God's deliverance of the Hebrews in Egypt. Excuses flowed from his lips: “I can't do it!” “I'm not qualified!” “I can't speak well!” “Just send someone else!”Sound familiar? Been there? Well, today's guest is going to help you with that. She is an award-winning author, and founder of Every Life Ministries, Erica Wiggenhorn. Writer of several books, she tells us in her most recent work, Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck and How Surrender Sets You Free how to overcome self-doubt from a biblical perspective.

Episode Summary: Today we're going to be talking about the tie between self-sufficiency and our fear of inadequacy. My guest today is Erica Wiggenhorn who knows what it's like to live under the shadow of the imposter syndrome, but who has learned how to untangle herself from the fear of inadequacy and let God be enough for her. She shares how she did it. Quotables from the episode: Early on in my faith walk, I cried out, “Jesus, how am I supposed to follow you if I don't understand you?” We have multiple barometers of success, but if it isn't based in what God says about us, we will continue striving until we are exhausted. The imposter syndrome is when you feel like a fraud or a fake and are waiting to fail and be rejected. When we feel like an imposter, inwardly we isolate and that creates a setup for great loneliness. Rather than striving, we have to rest in who God is and who He says we are. When I face circumstances in this life that are overwhelmingly huge I will know for a fact that I'm not enough and I'm not supposed to be God is enough. When I stop striving to be enough to everyone and in everything and allow God to be enough, I surrender in trust over to Him. When I make peace with my limitations, I find peace in my relationships. No human can thwart a divine plan. God's plan doesn't rest on our performance but on His promises. God is faithful to fill in our gaps. Our limitations provide an invitation for His limitless power. Scripture References: 2 Corinthians 3:5 NASB “Not that we are adequate in ourselves so as to consider anything as having come from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God. Exodus 3:11 ESV But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharoah and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon Me.  Recommended Resources: Free eBook set The Busy Woman's Bundle to Grow Closer to God Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck and How Surrender Sets You Free by Erica Wiggenhorn Unexplainable Jesus: Rediscovering the God You Thought You Knew by Erica Wiggenhorn An Unexplainable Life by Erica Wiggenhorn The Unexplainable Church by Erica Wiggenhorn Who God Says You Are: 17 Scriptures About Our True Identity Finding Your Identity in Christ: 20 Truths from God's Word Lies We Believe vs. Truths From The Bible About Our Identity – Episode 100 Our Identity in Christ is Certain Hope for Living in our True Identity in Christ – Episode 38 Remember Who You Are: 10 Scriptures to Remind You of Your True Identity Revive and Thrive Summit 1 Revive and Thrive Summit 2 Revive and Thrive Summit 3/4 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 1 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 2 Free Download: How To Fight Fearful/Anxious Thoughts and Win Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety's Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety's Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor's Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Social Media Links for Host and Guest: To connect with Erica Wiggenhorn: Website / Facebook / Instagram For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: Order Book Breaking Anxiety's Grip / Order Book Hope Prevails  /  Website  /  Blog  /  Facebook / Twitter (@DrMBengtson)  /  LinkedIn  /  Instagram / Pinterest / YouTube Guest: Erica Wiggenhorn is an award-winning author and the founder of Every Life Ministries, bringing you the truths of Scripture to transform your life. Are you weary of constantly striving? Have you tried everything to move your dream forward but find that no matter how hard you work it's never enough? Erica Wiggenhorn has been where you are. She has walked through the fire and been tempted in her journey to run after self-reliance, people pleasing and self-doubt. It's the reason she is so passionate about seeing revival in God's women in order that we might cease striving and choose to surrender and receive the abundant life Jesus promises. Erica's latest release Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck and How Surrender Sets You Free is hitting the shelves on September 7, 2021, and she's on the podcast today to offer up a little glimpse of the grace-filled Bible teaching to remind us of who we are in Christ and how that changes everything. Erica is passionate about teaching women to dig deeply into God's Word, to discover your unique purpose, accept God's promises, and live by His power. I know you're going to feel so refreshed after hearing from her in this episode. In it we're talking about: How our struggle to trust God when things get hard is actually a lack of intimacy with his character. She reminds us that this an invitation to press into Him and ask for help so we can see Him for who He really is: a loving Father. What to do if you're not hearing from God even though you've been praying and begging Him for answers. And how the poison of self-reliance is a tool the enemy uses to keep us questioning our faith and God Himself.   Loved this interview? Episode 106 - Stephanie welcomes Erica Wiggenhorn, bestselling Bible Study author, national speaker, and now releasing her brand new book, Letting God be enough. So, with that kind of book title, you can certainly expect a vulnerable conversation about self-introspection, daring to look at what's inside our hearts—the good, the bad and the ugly! What can we learn about our heavenly Father to overcome our fear of failure and inadequacy? Erica and Stephanie are close friends, and this conversation will probably feel like you're joining two friends over for coffee. We talk about our hearts, our sinfulness, and our desperate hunger for God. Do you feel like you're missing out on some secret other people know? Do you wonder why their faith seems so strong? Are you curious about how they find success around every corner, or their marriage seems so happy? Do you wonder how they're such good parents, or have such successful careers? It's easy to feel like things fall into place so easily for others while you're striving hard to keep life from falling apart. In a world where “never enough” is the norm, what do you do with those feelings of inadequacy? Do you strive more or expect less? And how does God fit into the equation? What are you afraid of, that you are hiding deep inside yourself and not dare to talk about? Erica shares a profound and hilarious story about finding dead lizards in her son's bedroom and compels us to ask: What are the squashed Lizzies that you have hidden in your spirit sock drawer? Only one way to find out. Have you ever felt that you were not enough? That you were a fake? That if people knew you, they would discover that you are not as amazing as they think you are? Are you afraid to reveal that you don't have it as together as you've been portraying? So today, we talk about imposter syndrome, about the fear to be “found out” as insufficient. God teaches us not to seek approval of our perceptions, but of Himself. Erica dives into the meaning of God's love and acceptance, and it might just transform your relationship with your Father who delights in you so powerfully, and has provided all you need for approval and acceptance.
