In this episode, my friend Ward De Paepe and I have explored the good old gas turbine. Sometimes it appears as a technology of the past, but actually there are still a lot of developments and Ward is definitely in the driver seat. I also asked him to define Exergy (no pressure Ward, you are the first one to do it). Since 2017, Ward De Paepe has been Professor at Université of Mons. He did his PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on micro gas turbines. Then he continued as a postdoc first at VUB and then in the team of Professor Alessandro Parente at ULB. In his research, he is striving towards highly operational and fuel flexible carbon-clean small-scale cogeneration applications with a particular focus on micro gas turbines. In this episode, Hall welcomes Amrit Robbins of Axiom Exergy. Axiom Exergy's cloud-based platform provides active power management services for buildings with large thermal loads. Today, 60-70% of a typical building's electricity bill is driven by w it consumes power, and 28% of all electricity consumed by US commercial and industrial buildings is used for thermal services ($56 billion/year and growing in the US alone). Amrit began his career wanting to accelerate the clean-energy future. As an entrepreneur and engineer, he realized that the most promising solutions would be economy-driven rather than policy-driven. Amrit talks in-depth about power management and refrigeration industry, and how it is traditionally a high-volume, low-margin space. He discusses how Axiom has approached this space by essentially putting unused data to good use, using AI techniques. Amrit also talks about some of the challenges Axiom overcame in building into this space. Finally, Amrit highlights how refrigeration technology could be part of the key to mitigating the climate crisis.

There’s no doubt that blockchain boosts the level of transparency and security marketers need to do their job better and boost customer trust in the process. And it’s clear that Bitcoin is a disruptive technology that marketers need to get to grips with how to avoid losing ground to competitors in years to come. The opportunities are massive, and so are the problems marketers face when they seek to distill reams of news into knowledge they can use to know, for example, where their ad spend really pays. This is just one use case our host Peggy Anne Salz discusses with Peter Rujgev, a multi-faceted and multi-talented crypto authority who freely shares his insights via CoinPM News, a one-stop destination for industry developments and news. Peter provides a crash course in crypto, sharing his pick of top trends and destinations you need to know to stay ahead of the curve. A native of Bulgaria, Peter also talks about his other interest and ventures, which include the startup Currant and his work with Exergy, a sustainable engineering company based in the U.K.

One of the more popular diesel conversions around is the Duraburb. A Suburban, Tahoe, or Escalade with a Duramax engine. Duraburb is a Florida company started a decade ago when someone wondered out loud why no manufacturers made a diesel SUV. Company founder-owner Eric Swanson decided to try and the rest is history. In those 10 years, Duraburb has done 300 conversions for mostly affluent clientele. Duraburbs look just like they rolled off the manufacturer's assembly line - every switch, light, and gauge - just like the OEM built the truck. In this episode, Eric explains to Paul and Chris why Duraburb exists and is so popular. This week's sponsors: Wherli Custom Fabrication WCFAB.com Exergy http://www.exergyperformance.com/dealers.html
The 1970 Chevy C-10 looks the part - rust mixed with a turquoise green, regular cab. Under the hood and on the ground is a different story. The old Chevy sits on an '06 LBZ frame and the engine bay holds a compound set-up pushing 750 HP to the ground. The truck belongs to WCFAB's Ryan Werhli, manager of the shop's fab department. Ryan started the project two years ago after he found the original '70 Chevy truck on Craigslist. Since then the project has appeared on a magazine cover and just about everywhere else as an incredible conversion. Ryan tells the story to Paul and Chris in this episode of the Diesel Performance Podcast. Conversion Month continues on the podcast with a conversation with Sean Patterson of Diesel Conversion Specialists. The company offers the harnesses and other components to install Cummins mechanical and common rail diesel engines into Fords and GM trucks. This is an interesting segment of the aftermarket because it continues to grow as more and more owners convert their trucks into dependable, mileage friendly and reliable vehicles. So what's the most popular project for Diesel Conversion Specialists? Paul and Chris find out. Danny and Paul keep finding exciting things to talk about at the UCC. This time they found podcast friend Ric Newberry.
Ric Newberry of Exergy Engineering says he could talk for three days about injectors. Exergy is one of the industries best injector modification and diagnostic providers. In this episode, Paul and Danny ask Ric to define the various parts on an injector - from the pulse width, percent versus horsepower, along with many, many others. Ric describes building the largest injector so far - 700% over for the Ultimate Callout Challenge event coming up in April 2017. On the fuel side of diesel performance, the injector is front and center for engine performance. It's one of the first considerations for a modified diesel truck.
The Diesel Performance Podcast is the official podcast for the Ultimate Callout Challenge - a performance diesel event like no other. By invitation only, a couple dozen trucks and drivers will compete this April in Indianapolis - they'll drag, pull, and dyno against each other for the ultimate bragging rights. Last year's event resulted in several trucks running over 2,000 horsepower. This is our first profile of a UCC participant - Nick Priegnitz of Calibrated Power Solutions. The DPP plans to interview all the participants, so we thought we'd start with someone close to home. CPS will drive a 2011 Cummins dually with a displacement of 10.4L - increased from an 8.9 ISL. Twin 14mm fuel pumps and 500% over injectors from Exergy. DT's UCC truck will also sport a 10-foot bed instead of the eight-foot factory configuration.
