Last year, the provincial government overhauled its municipalities act. The new Towns and Local Services Act gives community governments more power to deal with their own issues as they see fit. The Town of Harbour Grace, supported by many other councils around the province, led the way in lobbying for one particular addition to the new law. The towns want to have the right to demolish derelict buildings that are either dangerous or have become eyesores. Don Coombs is the mayor of Harbour Grace.

Hello! Today we watched the critically acclaimed and Best Picture-nominated 138-minute $75 million Netflix dramedy Don’t Look Up so you don’t have to! We hated this. We hated it so much we didn’t have the heart to make a guest watch it. Sam is kind of ranty on this one. If you like hearing him angry, please subscribe. If you can’t do that (we understand!) please leave us a good review on your podcatcher of choice (but especially Apple Podcasts) so that more people can hear us. It’s the environmentally friendly thing to do.Our image on the site is a screengrab via the Frinkiac from the “Treehouse of Horror VI” short “Attack of the 50ft Eyesores” in Season 7 of The Simpsons. It is a much better use of your time. Our theme song is Louis Armstrong and His Hot 5’s Muskrat Ramble, made freely available by the Boston Public Library and audio engineering shop George Blood, LP through the Internet Archive. Don’t Look Up is copyright 2021 Netflix; brief audio excerpts from the film are used here for purposes of review. Trust us, that’s all we had to do with it. When the experienced and much travelled sustainability designers, Frank O'Connor and Jude Sherry of Anois identified and mapped out over 300 derelict properties in Cork city that can be restored for much needed housing, creative and work spaces you start to take notice BUT you automatically come up with many reasons why it is not possible. Frank and Jude debunk not only these reasons (myths) but also use other cities they have personally experienced including Amsterdam and Bristol as examples where it does happen. It is possible, but what does it take to make it happen? Enjoy the show! This show has been brought to you by Fuzion Communications, a Marketing, PR, Graphic Design and Digital Marketing Agency in Ireland with offices in Dublin and Cork. At a point in this talk, I mention to my guest, Alec K Redfearn, how I don't see the connection of his personality to that of our topic, Captain Beefheart. But I neglected to mention how I can see the relation to scope and body of work and sheer beautiful freakness. From The Eyesores or The Seizures to Say You Love Satan to D.U.M.E., Alec seems to me to always be pushing limits in more ways and musically even longer than the good Captain. Alec has a new release with his new electronic music project, D.U.M.E., which will be released on Wrong Whole Archival Bureau very soon. Don't forget to follow him on all social medias to get updates on that. And follow us too. All our links are at our website, www.psychicstatic.net Thanks! Love ya! Lets discuss Harris,Biden Ticket, More of Miami Dade Mayor Candidate, Ms.Cava. 08-13-2020. Lets discuss? Does a Harris-Biden Democrat Presidential Ticket guarantee them a Presidential win in November? Lets not make any mistakes, the Communist Party USA, made the selection of Kamala Harris, and this Ticket is scary, Donald Trump needs to worry. Also discussed more on Miami Dade Mayoral Candidate, Ms.Cava, what a Mayoralship under her will be like? Lets just say? I went into her District, and saw Eyesores, please go to Alexander News Show channel on YouTube and see latest Video. A Ms.Cava Mayor? Miami Dade will be? More Poverty, More Eyesores, like Abandoned Buildings, Illegal Dumping, Higher Crime, less Police Officers, because she will defund the Police, higher Taxes, she will rule with a Iron fist, while mismanaging all Miami Dade Departments. Real bad situation if she gets elected Mayor. Please follow Alexander Carlos on Twitter @Alexandernewssh. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/alexander-carlos/support

Un must.

James Howard Kunstler discusses public art in our cities and towns. Modern public art often lacks artistry and is an ironic representation of our 21st century junk empire. But Kunstler says we don't need any more irony. We need a dignified public realm. Instead of engaging amateurs and children to splash paint on the blank walls of publicly facing buildings, we need to stop creating blank walls in the first place. Even the skilled work of professional muralists often results in little more than a neurotic attempt to give our deactivated streets the appearance of life, when the real problem is that our streets are dead. Kunstler relates these issues to Potemkin villages, trips to Disneyland and do-it-yourself home improvement kits.
