My guest today is Kate Petersil. You might find this last name familiar, she is the wife of Gil Petersil, a networking expert who we had here about a month ago. They are definitely a power couple.  Kate is a mother of three and an entrepreneur, she is a co-founder of Meet Partners. Kate's focus is on education and personal development. She is on a mission to empower women that wanna have it all: outstanding relationships, kids, business, and stay honest to their inner feminine nature. I invited Kate because many of our listeners are women, who are building businesses, I am sure she will have an interesting perspective on how to be an entrepreneur, mother, and wife and have it all. We are not going to talk about e-commerce in this episode, but we are going to go deep into relationships and mindset, which often is the prerequisite in building a great business. In Episode #79, I'm sharing my tips with ways to love the ones your stuck with right now. It's acrazy time to navigate, but if we can all share tips along the way, it will be easier as we go.We were the family that always had people with us. Our kids were raised in this tribe of friendsthat were like family. Our house was where everyone came to eat. If someone didn't comeover, my kids wondered what was wrong. We didn't vacation alone. We didn't truly doanything alone as a family. We were flooded in one time for three days and thought we were going to lose our mindsbecause we were so accustomed to having friends around. Up until then, we had alwaysthought it would be so cool to own a private island. It seemed so romantic and adventurous.Until we were trapped on our own island of sorts without people being able to reach us. Theactual conversation my husband had at that point was “Babe, I was wrong. I don't want to liveon an island. I love my family, but I need my friends.”Many of you find yourself on what feels like an island right now. You're stuck with your spouseand kids only and you have no idea how you all are going to survive. I get it. That was us tooup until the last few years. Through some life events and growing pains, we found ourselveschoosing to spend most of our time with our immediate family. At first it was hard, I'm notgoing to lie.Our kids were 8 and 11 and they had only known a life of being surrounded by people. Thefirst time we went on our boat, just the four of us they were completely confused. I'm not surethat they knew we could take the boat out without anyone else. They asked daily who wascoming over and why it was just us.It felt lonely and isolated. My husband and I loved each other and enjoyed each other'scompany, but we didn't know how to be alone together. We had always had distractions in ourmarriage. We had people around. If we were irritated with one another, we had a friend wecould vent to. If we wanted to avoid one another, we had friends we could escape to.In the beginning, it was easy to turn on one another. We would let the loneliness push us to theedge where we snapped at one another and snapped at the kids.HOW TO LOVE THE ONES YOUR STUCK WITHUNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A NEW SITUATION FOR EVERYONEWhen the kids asked who was coming over, we would be irritated and tell them that they didn'thave to always have people around. However, we had to understand that we had created thissituation. They were accustomed to being raised in a village. We had never taught them howto be content with one another and only our family because had always had distractions.EXTEND GRACE TO ONE ANOTHER• As we began to enjoy time with just our family, we deiced it was a great time to buy amotorhome and take off for a 12 day journey. We had dreamt of owning a motorhome for tenyears and were so excited about this adventure. Within the first four hours of the trip, I wasregretting the purchase and wondering if it was too soon to late to back out. While we hadgotten used to spending more family time together, we were not accustomed to being sotogether in such closed quarters. The kids were constantly wrestling, fighting, or asking forsomething. My husband needed me to help him with navigation, and needed things fromme. I needed peace and quiet to get work done. At the end of day 2, we were all ready tomurder each other. This was when it hit me that we had never really spent that muchuninterrupted time together. So, we had to have a family conversation that looked like, Dadapologizing for having a short temper. Mom apologizing for losing her mind and cursing. And, the kids apologizing for being a-holes.... yeah, that was an actual conversation. And,we all were able to extend grace to one another to learn how to navigate this newexperience. Now, that motorhome and a two week adventure is our absolute favorite familytime! We found our groove.• When the kids are fighting with one another, we give them the grace to work it out because,it's a lot of togetherness!HAVE PATIENCE• Know that this does not happen overnight. It takes time.As we distanced ourselves a little more from others, we fell into the rhythm of a new normal. My kids started to realize that when we were the only ones in the boat, they could wakeboardfor as long as they wanted to and not have to take turns with all the other kids.• Know that each day spent without friends or external family around is one more day spentgrowing closer to your immediate family.TAKE PART IN EACH OTHER'S ACTIVITIESRealize that your routine doesn't look the same when it is only your immediate family. You,your husband, and your children do not have friends around to participate in the activities thatthey normally would.• If your kids play baseball or jump on trampolines with neighborhood kids, play video games,be the parent that takes interest in that activity and fill that void. Do the activity that theirfriends normally would.• I love a fire pit and glass of wine on the patio with girlfriends. Instead of girlfriends, myhusband has stepped in and filled that void and it makes my heart so very happy. Can I tellyou, it's completely awesome?• But, he's willing to do so because when my husband wants to watch one of his car shows orwork on something in the shop, I hang out with him. Heck, this week, I jumped on the backof his dirt bike and let him take me for a ride! He was thrilled, I was terrified...BE FLEXIBLETry new things that you wouldn't normally have done as a family. You may end up finding anew family favorite.• We've recently taken up hiking. I've teased on all of our vacations that I want to be oneof those hiking families. We hike now, talking and sharing along the path.• And, mushroom hunting. It's a new family pastime that I would have never taken up if Iweren't willing to experience new activities with just my family.COMMUNICATE WITH ONE ANOTHER• If you need a time out from the family, (like I did today while preparing this episode)communicate that. Explain that you need the quiet time to focus on your task at hand orsimply to have a moment.• Talk to your family about the situation and how while it feels weird to not have others around, you're grateful for the opportunity to grow closer as a family.• Show gratitude to one another: If we've been on a two day road trip and have only stoppedto sleep without the kids getting to stretch their legs, we thank them for being such awesomeroad warriors. Same goes for this quarantine process. We daily thank our kids for beingsuch troopers in the midst of all this.FREE STUFF———->Want to check out the best email platform I have ever tried?
