Empezar desde cero en el mundo de Amazon no siempre nace de un plan estructurado. A veces surge de observar una oportunidad en el lugar menos pensado. Ese fue el caso de Sergio Alvarado, quien pasó de trabajar en un warehouse a construir su propio negocio vendiendo en Amazon. Su historia no parte de la teoría, sino de una experiencia directa con el sistema, entendiendo desde adentro cómo se mueve el comercio electrónico. El punto de quiebre aparece cuando detecta una limitación clara en su entorno. "Trabajaba en un almacén… Pasaba el tiempo y me di cuenta que en esa clase de trabajo estamos limitados con un techo salarial", cuenta nuestro invitado. Esa realidad lo impulsa a mirar más allá de su rol operativo y a interesarse por lo que sucedía con los productos una vez que salían del warehouse. Ahí descubre el potencial de Amazon y empieza a construir su propio camino. Lejos de encasillarse en una sola categoría, Sergio adopta una mentalidad flexible basada en la rentabilidad: "No tengo un nicho específico… el que veo que puede dejar ganancia, lo analizo si es rentable y me meto en el mismo". Este enfoque le permite adaptarse rápidamente al mercado y entender que, más allá de las tendencias, lo importante es leer los números y detectar oportunidades reales. Uno de los aspectos que marca su crecimiento es el control de la logística. "Empecé a almacenar los productos en mi casa y finalmente pasé a un almacén… Hoy tengo mi propia bodega", comenta. Ese proceso no solo le permite escalar su operación, sino que también abre una nueva línea de negocio al ofrecer servicios logísticos a terceros. La evolución no es inmediata, pero responde a una lógica de crecimiento progresivo. En cuanto a categorías, identifica rápidamente dónde están las mejores oportunidades. "La categoría que hoy me es más rentable es la de juguetes", sostiene. Pero más allá del producto puntual, su estrategia se apoya en el análisis constante del mercado: "Utilizo mucho Keepa… veo los precios y ventas a lo largo del tiempo". Esa lectura de datos es la que le permite tomar decisiones más informadas y reducir el margen de error. El trabajo con proveedores también forma parte clave del sistema. Sergio no deja esto librado al azar: "Me apoyo mucho en SmartScout y tengo un equipo que está contactando constantemente a proveedores". A esto le suma un criterio claro: evitar intermediarios poco confiables y asegurarse de conocer el origen de la mercadería. Esa trazabilidad es fundamental, especialmente en un entorno donde la autenticidad del producto puede ponerse en duda. Como en cualquier negocio dentro de Amazon, los problemas aparecen. "Muchos hemos pasado por alguna restricción en la cuenta, pero cuando tienes toda la documentación en orden, te reactivan la cuenta en unos días", afirma nuestro experto. Este punto deja en evidencia algo clave: más allá de los errores o reclamos, lo que sostiene el negocio es el orden y la capacidad de responder ante cualquier situación. Además de Amazon, Sergio también observa nuevas oportunidades en otras plataformas: "Walmart está creciendo bastante… ahora es el momento para aprovechar". Entender estos movimientos le permite diversificar y no depender de un solo canal, algo cada vez más importante en el ecosistema actual. Pero si hay algo que atraviesa toda su experiencia es la mentalidad de largo plazo. "Para el que está empezando… tiene que tomar conciencia que es un negocio a largo plazo", subraya. Amazon no es un resultado inmediato ni un atajo rápido. Es un proceso donde la constancia, el aprendizaje y la paciencia terminan marcando la diferencia entre quienes abandonan y quienes logran construir un negocio sostenible.
