Have you ever been to a first Mass? In this powerful Easter reflection, Fr. Jonathan Meyer shares the beauty and grace of a priest's first Mass and how John 3:16 reveals the deeply Catholic truth of God's love—expressed through the Eucharist, the priesthood, and the sacraments. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son…” But how did He give us His Son? Through Mary. Through the Eucharist. Through the priesthood. This is not just a verse held up at football games. It's a profound expression of our Catholic faith.

First Mass of Christmas 2024
We say as a foundational point of the Christian faith, "God became man and dwelled among us." But do take moments to consider the realities of what it truly means that God became man. At ever point of His life, from His conception to His death, He entered into every suffering of fallen mankind. He willed Himself to suffer our entire existence that He might relieve us of our sufferings from the fall of man. Tonight, at the First Mass of Christmas, we ask God to reveal to us just how far He lowered Himself so that we may be raised up.

The day following his ordination, Steven celebrated his first mass at his home parish. Numerous brother priests and fellow seminarians celebrated this mass with Steven.Steven found the mass a mixture of both the surreal and natural. Natural in that he had prepared for this and surreal in the realization that this had all come to fruition. The homily for this first mass was given by Fr. Chris Stanish who served served as Steven's first Spiritual Director. Fr. Chris's homily focused on making certain that the mass never becomes routine. The experience of consecration impressed Steven deeply and he realizes that he will be processing this meaning for the rest of his life. Being ordained a priest changes who a person is. This caused Steven to reflect on the unity of his heart with Jesus and the life-long call to pour out his whole self. After communion the choir sang for Steven a song that was commissioned for his ordination. The lyrics of the song come from Prayer of Abandon which Steven prays every day. Finally, Steven thanked all those who helped and guided him along his path, notably calling out is Mother and Father last. Steven presented his Mother with the Maniturgium, a cloth used to clear the chrism oil that the Bishop poured on his hands. And to his Father Steven presented the Stole that he wore while hearing his first confession.Next up for Steven is his first assignment, which begins July 1, 2024 at Our Lady of Consolation. Much more to come!Link to Prayer of Abandon by Saint Charles de Foucauldhttps://www.charlesdefoucauld.org/en/priere.php

Canon Ross Bourgeois, ICKSP serves as Parochial Vicar at Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Canon Bourgeois was ordained in 2019. In Today's Show: Altar servers kiss the hands of priests during the liturgy, which is very beautiful. I understand the Eastern Christians venerate the hands of priests, even when they meet them in secular settings. Can laity kiss the hands of Catholic priests, apart from First Mass blessings? If so, please explain the etiquette. Are the terms of the marriage contract identical in a mixed marriage? Can I read daily devotions that are not written by a Catholic? Could a priest say the Novus Ordo with a Douay-Rheims Lectionary? Is it correct for an altar server to go to the tabernacle and put away the consecrated hosts after communion? What is the difference between how a deacon Baptizes and how a priest Baptizes, since a Deacon cannot anoint? How might dual citizenship affect one's enrollment with the ICKSP? Would Canon Ross mind sharing what were a couple of his favorite saints and why they're his favorites? I went to confession, but after confession I got into an argument and said some hurtful things. It's going to be at least a week until my next confession; does asking God sincerely for forgiveness in your prayers give you some of God's grace back, or must you confess to get any connection back with God? Is saying hurtful things a mortal sin? Is it ok to refer to an Institute priest as Father? Does it happen often? Episode 251: In the rural area known as Drummond Township, near Perth, Ontario, about a mile north of the village of Balderson's Corners, in the early morning hours of December 10, 1828, what appeared to be an accidental fire resulted in the deaths of Thomas Easby's wife and four eldest children. Only a month later, it was the word of Thomas's only surviving son that painted a different, more sinister picture. Thomas was arrested, charged with the murders and tried. Easby's trial was brief, he was convicted and sentenced to hang for what has been called Canada's first mass murder.
