We have Sunny Singh, also known as hate5six, for this one. Most hardcore fans know him for popping up at shows across the country with a camera in hand but he has also made a huge impact on the community as a whole. Ever since Sunny decided to leave his full-time job, he has made a pact with himself to push even harder with the new year. This year's goals currently sits at 1,000 recorded sets, in which Sunny was way ahead of schedule when this episode was recorded. What makes hate5six so honorable is that he's willing to give new bands a shot. Someone can send a simple message over social media and Sunny will be in the audience that night. There are countless bands that will contribute quick success to a video that the hate5six name releases of their set. It's a one man project but Sunny releases at the speed of a company of 100+ employees. Since the beginning the goal has been to help bands find an audience. The channel has always been accessible to newer and younger bands. Hard work always seems to pay off when someone has a vision and is willing to put in the time. That is what happened to Sunny when he was asked to jump on the most recent Rage Against the Machine tour for select dates. Sunny had the opportunity to continue to build his name while watching one of his favorite childhood bands return to the stage. Sunny is someone who speaks up about topics that matter dearly to him. He wants to use his platform to educate his followers with the research he conducts. That mindset falls back to his early days with Rage Against the Machine. They opened the door for speaking up for yourself and creating clarity for a large population. This is a project that demands endless hours. Sunny is the definition of "perfectionist." Some would believe that he is filming at a faster rate than most people can consume, but Sunny is beating the odds. His page is closely watched on a daily basis. Sunny is careful with his edits, but the end result is rewarding. These videos are timestamping music history.

Episode 083 - (Recorded Monday night March 7th) In a serious episode of The Upgrade, Len & Gary get into an in-depth discussion about the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. The boys discuss Len's recent trip to California to record Glassjaw and Glassjaw's subsequent cancellation, Doc Coyle and the upcoming Bad Wolves tour, and Sunny Singh & Hate5Six. From there the conversation turns to Russia & the Ukraine… Starting off with some background history, the discussion turns to growing up during the Cold War and how that concept was forgotten over time, “The Day After” TV movie, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. From there it gets tied into the current situation in the Ukraine and its impact elsewhere…. Putin's motivations, Gary's long standing theory about an alliance between Russia, China, North Korea and other countries, uneasy situations in Asia and how it will affect US imports, the “shadow civil war” in the United States, influencer culture, Trump, and the weakening of the United States on the world stage, China's impending economic takeover and how corporate greed enabled it, China's advances in technology and why the US can't keep up, Ukranians fighting for democracy vs Americans fighting against democracy, the role of racism in the decline of America, US inaction in the Russia/Ukraine situation and the drastic effect it will have on the 2024 presidential election, setting the stage for the re-emergence of Donald Trump, the complete insanity of the Republican Party and the complete incompetence of the Democratic Party, the question “has World War III already started?”, speculating on the future of this conflict and its long term effects on America and the world, and some discussion of fictionalized invasions of the mainland US including the movie “Bushwick” and the comic book (and upcoming HBO Max series) “DMZ”.http://www.theupgradepodcast.net#theupgrade #theupgradepodcast #podcast #landminestudios #billyclubsandwich #hardcoremusic #nyhc #newyorkhardcore #nyhardcore #russia #ukraine #worldwariii #worldwar3 #politics #democrats #republicans #fucktrump------------------------

Welcome to the first real episode of the Codec Projects Podcast. My name is Anthony and today we’re talking with Sunny Singh of Hate5Six.com. Aside from being a computer science genius and an all around great guy, Sunny has taken it upon himself to document the underground hardcore scene like no one that’s come before him. He’s amassed the largest known film library of hardcore shows and he’s actually also an amazing flatland BMX rider. Along with Chris Wrenn of Bridge Nine and Sully’s Brand, Greg Walsh of Wolfbrigade gym and Steve Crandall of FBM Bike Co and Drop In Coffee, Sunny is one of the four people featured in the "Don’t Stand In Line" docuseries . We cover a lot of ground in this episode and hit on few topics that we didn’t discuss in the documentary. Whether you know Sunny or not, I think you’re going to enjoy this one. So here we go. Ok that was Sunny. If you get a chance, please leave us a review in iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you’re listening to this. It really helps build awareness and it would mean a lot to me. Radults are back with one of our most inspiring episodes yet as we're joined by Sunny Singh. Known to most by the name hate5six, Sunny is a former computer scientist turned digital archivist who makes past and present show footage and social movement amplification accessible on a free global platform. Sunny started filming hardcore shows while he was in high school as a way to document and contribute to the scene he loved. Since launching hate5six in 2008 he has dedicated himself tirelessly to grow the site and by extension the online presence of the hardcore genre. Having filmed, edited and uploaded thousands of shows, amassed millions of views and fostered a unique and passionate online community, Sunny is now considered the foremost videographer of the modern hardcore scene. He is also a bit of a tech genius, having created the database hate5six uses, as well as developed an advanced editing algorithm. An entirely self-made success story, Sunny has been able to work full-time on the hate5six project since 2018, continuing to push the limits of what the site is capable of, while lending his talents and influence to emerging bands and social movements, further amplifying the ethos and the message that he believes in. Sunny is an absolute Radult who brings a rare and positive energy to the world. So throw on your best mosh shorts, put your hood up over your head and get ready to stage-dive off of your couch or desk with hate5six. Episode topics include: How he got into hardcore, why he started filming shows, how the idea for hate5six came about, establishing and growing the site, conquering YouTube, crowdfunding, his motivations, his work with social movements, his camera set-up, what a show day is like, that Harms Way meme, where he sees hate5six going next and of course, his tips for being a Radult. www.hate5six.com @hate5six on Twitter @hate5six on Instagram You can find Radults @Radults on Facebook and Instagram@radultspodcast on Twitter. radultspodcast@gmail.com

On this episode, Sunny takes us down the rabbithole, from the beginning of his archive collecting, to bmx and early show footage. There is alot in here that hasn't been heard before and 99% is a great blueprint or inspiration to those who are looking to do something and need the drive or extra push to start. From his high school days through college, we follow him to his first year shooting This Is Hardcore. What started off as a novel concept grew Sunny and Hate5six.com from a local videographer to a name that is known throughout the world. Sunny's work would bring hardcore bands live sets to all the corners of the globe, and would later take Sunny out to Europe, Asia and Australia filming bands. Sunny uses Hate5six.com platform to inspire new generations of Hardcore Punk fans, shed new light on old tapes from the past and also shed light on the plight of marginalized peoples struggling against fascists. The interview runs well over 2 hours, but again when you sit down and give it a go, it will breeze by. Sunny has a great story, and incredibly inspiring drive to learn new skills, which would give him the opportunity to further his drive to shoot more bands, deliver more live sets and ultimately change his destiny from a computer programmer to a full documentarian/videographer. There is just too much in this episode to jot down here, but its worth the full time and you will come out having new found understanding and respect for this man's drive or just be inspired by his ingenuity. https://www.hate5six.com https://www.youtube.com/user/hate5six https://www.instagram.com/hate5six/ https://twitter.com/hate5six

My guest for Episode 174... Part 2 in the "Bane 2.0" series is bass player, Brendan "Stu" Maguire! Stu played and toured with "Bane" extensively and recorded the "World Series" 7" collection in 2009. We begin this episode speaking about his battle with pancreatic cancer. For what this man has gone and is going through, his positive attitude and fight is second to none. It's inspiring to say the least. We both called the first half hour or so of this conversation, "The Ailment Episode" since he tells his story, then I wasn't going to, but he wanted me to tell mine as well. Not that we're comparing, but my story doesn't even come close. We then go into his history, growing up, and his time in "Reach the Sky". I never met Stu in person and really hope that I do sooner than later. The man is an inspiration and my hat goes off to his amazingly supportive family. The final Bane set was released when a 20k goal was reached within 24 hours via GoFundMe set up by Sunny from Hate5six. Once the goal was reached, the last set streamed. But the goal has been raised to 50k to help him and his family get through this ordeal. So... if you can, please visit the link below and help. https://www.hate5six.com/stu Thanks for your time Stu. I hope you all enjoy this episode. Respect.

We often talk about "agile outside of IT"...what about lean/kanban concepts applied "in real life"? This week join Jay Hrcsko as he chats with Sunny Singh from Hate5Six Productions, a one-man video production company. They discuss concepts such as prioritization, WIP limits, throughput, predictability, and dependency management as applied to Sunny's work as a videographer. Enjoy! Sunny Singh has been capturing the live hardcore music experience on film for over a decade with Hate5Six. With an arsenal of over two thousand high quality live performance videos online, Sunny has invested thousands of hours in shooting, editing and broadcasting killer hardcore bands in their element - live and dangerous. In this in-depth conversation, we explore his history, tech, hardcore music, transformative shows, Rage Against The Machine, art as a defiant response to the corrupt systems of late capitalism, the emotional feedback loop of live music and the decision to launch his Patreon in 2018, which has allowed him to make Hate5Six a full time job. WELCOME CINEPUNX: HAVE WE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU! This week we were lucky enough to sit down with the venerable Johnpaul Golaski, (@johnpaul215 ) stalwart of the Philly punk scene, veteran of the awesome WKDU , creator of Philly Shreds (where I used to go for so much show information) and freelance sound engineer for a number of movies and TV shows Johnpaul is a true Cinepunk in that he is both more punk than either of us, and ACTUALLY involved in creating cinema. So that is pretty amazing. Johnpaul has been involved at the amazing WKDU for 20 years and you can hear his show 1100ccs Of Hate on Sunday nights from 10pm to midnight. He is also a fun and interesting guy to talk to, and we had a wonderful conversation with him. Thanks Johnpaul for being a part of the show, for some sound equipment advice, and for maybe having us over to WKDU sometime (which I have never been to). IMPORTANT LINKS: We didn’t discuss too many specific movies this week, but we did a few. Here are some links to other things discussed: 1. WKDU 2. JOHNPAUL’S SITE 3. PHILLY PUNX PICNIC 4. THIS IS HARDCORE FEST 5. INTERNATIONAL HOUSE PHILLY CALENDAR 6. THE MAHONING DRIVE IN 7. SLEDGEHAMMER (UPON WATCHING THIS I KNOW WHO SLEDGE HAMMER IS NOW) 8. FANDOR 9. PHILLY OUTDOOR MOVIES 10. THE AWESOME FEST SOUND NOTES: This week we owe a HUGE THANK YOU to Len Carmichael of LANDMINE STUDIOS Basically we had some equipment issues. We had to do both the soundboard and the USB mic again, and there were some delay issues which led to a huge echo issue in the second half of the episode. WITHOUT THE HELP OF LANDMINE STUDIOS THIS WHOLE EPISODE WOULD HAVE BEEN SCRAPPED. Basically, through the brilliant sound manipulations of Len, we were able to get our episode back. Thanks man! Support Landmine Studios, Len does great work including the sound for most of the THIS IS HARDCORE FEST, videos done by never-guest Hate5six ,and recording great bands including my good friends One With Nothing. All that to say: throw him your support please. OK, so thanks for checking us out. Please subscribe, rate and review us. Welcome to the latest re-imaging of the 80s classic, CINEPUNX! In this creative new vision we have cast Liam in the role of Ricky Martin, and Josh in the role of Weng Weng! Ok wait no, this is the episode where we discuss remakes, in depth, and with our friend Jackee Sadicario! You may know Jackee from the literary magazine Bedfellows which is exactly what it sounds like. We think it sounds awesome, so that is what it is. Jackee is also a long time fixture in the Hardcore scene, and though she is from Long Island, has been in Philly for 8 years. Being from Long Island, she cannot help but discuss Crime in Stereo on the show, but we love her anyway. We also spend no small amount of time talking about how great Spy was and then Jackee bad mouths that band FRAMEWORKS, actually she talks trash on almost all the bands that opened that recent MODERN LIFE IS WAR show. It was so cool. Things we discuss in this episode worthy of links: 1. Bedfellows 2. Young Ones 3, How there is nothing Filipino about Starship Troopers 4. Philadelphia Hardcore Shows 5. Exhumed Films 6. The Mahoning Drive-in Not sure if those links are all that helpful, but links encourage clicks, right? RIGHT? Jackee was a dream to talk to, had some great insights about remakes and specifically the Dawn of the Dead remake and the upcoming The Craft remake. Hope we can have her one again soon SOUND NOTES This week, thanks in some small part to Sunny of Hate5six we were able to record through a soundboard. I think the sound turned out noticeably better, what do you think? Let us know in yonder comments. Ok, thanks. HOT OFF THE PRESSES, NEW CINEPUNX DETAILS!!! or you know, just a new episode for you all! (Don’t want to miss an ep? Subscribe to us on iTunes!) On this week’s episode we sat down with Dan Fraga of Exhumed Films to discuss how he got into both Hardcore Punk and Horror films, as well as the connections he sees between the two. Dan was great to talk to, and has the coolest basement. Unfortunately we did not have time to play any of his awesome cabinet video games or pinball machines, but maybe sometime soon! During the episode Dan mentioned some upcoming Exhumed Films events, such as: MILLIGAN MANIA on April 10 and PAUL NASCHY CREATURE FEATURES “AS SEEN ON TV” on April 15 and of course Liam’s favorite EX-FEST: PART V SPEAKING OF UPCOMING EVENTS: Some of you know, some of you do not, but we are hosting an event as part of the CINEDELPHIA FILM FESTIVAL that we are very excited about! HATE5SIX RETROSPECTIVE: An evening with Sunny Singh of Hate5Six.com That should be a lot of fun so check it out, and tell your friends all about it. There were references during the episode to some classic bands that, if you don’t know, you should find out about. There was also some discussion of the classic tv series NIGHT FLIGHT. Do you remember NIGHT FLIGHT? If you do, tell us about it in the comments below. SOUND NOTES: There is a brief section where Dan’s mic cut out, but we stopped and were able to get it working again. There is also a brief edit where I let slip some confidential info, oops. You may not notice it but you may! Finally, we get an echo toward the end of the episode, and Liam wasn’t feeling well so at points you can here him breathing loudly. Yeah, we are a class act. Keep an eye out for our campaign soon to improve our sound! Thanks for listening, and please if you check us out on Itunes rates and subscribe! Thanks!
