West Ham battled through to the FA Cup fourth round by beating Stockport County 1-0 on a boggy Edgeley Park pitch that would have made some Sunday league teams turn their noses up. Craig Dawson leaped like a salmon to nod home the 83rd minute winner after David Moyes’ men had huffed and puffed all night against the deep and well organised National League side. Hammers fans finally said Au Revoir to Sebastien Haller who left for Ajax in a £20-25million deal. There were very few people sad to see the disappointing Frenchman leave but there was barely a dry eye among West Ham fans when the club announced Robert Snodgrass had left for West Brom. Will Pugh (https://twitter.com/WilliamPugh_) is joined by James Jones and Tom Edwards to discuss all of that and more as the Irons approach the midway point of what is undoubtedly a make or break month. The boys are also joined by Mark Gevaux – more commonly known as the Ribman – who pulls no punches as he gives his unfiltered views on the club’s board and their transfer activity. David Sullivan and David Gold appointed new directors at West Ham this week – Sullivan’s son Jack and current partner were two of them. Tom gives the run down on the long list of strikers the Hammers are being linked with and the lads have a general chat about West Ham transfer news. Name That Game is back in dramatic fashion with one of the guys having an absolute mare. West Ham’s women had ANOTHER game postponed because of Covid-19 as their trip to Man City was axed. But the lads discuss other comings and goings before giving details on the New Year shirt giveaway. James reads out some outstanding reviews including a list of belting comparisons between the lads and some current players. Please SUBSCRIBE to the pod and like, rate and share our stuff. At the end of the show today we lost Steve. Like, he didn't wander off somewhere and get lost, he lost internet connection and wasn't able to be on the show for the last 30 minutes. But, he was still able to get through home schoolin' before his internet went completely kaput. All of that and much more on today's show!
This week we are treated to the second set from the band's performance in Troy NY at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on May 7, 1978. This is a solid set throughout, featuring the opening Scarlet>Fire which clocks in at over 20 minutes with some exceptional Garcia licks. The 'Estimated Prophet' that follows features some nice Garcia work on the wahwah as well. 'He's Gone' slows things down a touch and leads into Drums. A great 'Iko, Iko' comes out of drums - and I read that Donna and Bob were doing a hulu dance during it ;) 'The Other One' that follows has some nice Phil bombs. 'Black Peter' follows and is as charged with emotion as any you'll hear. 'Around and Around' closes the set, and they come back for a 'U.S. Blues' encore. Grateful Dead Field House - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY 5/7/78 - Sunday Two Scarlet Begonias [10:50] > Fire On The Mountain [10:00] ; Estimated Prophet [12:26] > He's Gone [12:14] > Drums [17:33] > Iko Iko [9:39] > The Other One [8:17] > Black Peter [12:27] > Around And Around [8:37] Encore U.S. Blues [5:52] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod052220.mp3 My deepest thanks for your kind support of the Deadpod. Boy is this one going to eat up my quota! There is almost 2 1/2 hours of smokin' Grateful Dead music in this week's Deadpod, from the second set on 2/23/74 at the Winterland in San Francisco CA. I'm bound to overlook something that you will enjoy in this set, nevertheless I'd call you attention to the wonderful opening set (Row Jimmy through Stella Blue).. as well as the HUGE segment from He's Gone through Eyes of the World.. that 'Other One' is fantastic, including a 'Slipknot' sounding segment.. this recording is excellent for listening to the individual contributions, especially Phil the bombardier here! I would have loved to have been there... can't imagine how everyone felt going out of there after this night of music! Grateful Dead Winterland Arena San Francisco, CA 2/23/74 - Saturday Two Row Jimmy [8:34] ; Weather Report Suite Prelude [1:16]> Weather Report Suite Part 1 [4:15]> Let It Grow [12:21]> Stella Blue [8:13] ; Big River [4:36] ; Ramble On Rose [6:45] ; Me And My Uncle [2:41] ; He's Gone [13:45]> Truckin' [7:55]> Drums [3:24]> The Other One [20:41] (1)> Eyes Of The World> One More Saturday Night ; Casey Jones Encore Johnny B. This week's Deadpod features the debut of another classic Dead song, 'Standing on the Moon', as well as a fine pre-drums 'Playing in the Band' featuring a nice interplay betwen Jerry and Phil. I think this is a well played set, while it doesn't feature a ton of fireworks, it does have an interesting, if slightly dark, feel to the drumz segment and Brent's 'I Will Take You Home' always tugs at the heartstrings. 'He's Gone' is a bit on the slower side, but a wonderful 'Morning Dew' and a particularly rocking 'Johnny B. Goode' must have sent the folks home very happy! Grateful Dead Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center Oakland, CA 2/5/89 - Sunday Set 2: Tuning Cold Rain & Snow -> Man Smart, Woman Smarter Standing On The Moon > Playin' In The Band > Drums > Space > I Will Take You Home > He's Gone > I Need A Miracle > Morning Dew Johnny B. A song inspired by a true family history story. A young woman finds herself expecting only to discover that the father has also gotten another girl pregnant at the same time. Will she tell him? Will she keep the baby?
Lucky us! We get to listen to this wonderful second set from December 1, 1979 at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh PA on this week's Deadpod. This is a fine recording and the music is quite good, even thrilling at times. The China>Rider opener is just right, then pay attention to the fine opening to 'Looks Like Rain'.. quite unique. 'He's Gone' is done quite well alos, and leads into a wonderful jam that is clearly the highlight of this show.. including a 'Gloria' refrain'.. but just let yourself be carried by Garcia's shaping of the musical atmosphere here.. Listen to how worked up Bobby gets in the (first ever) CC Rider.. The rest of the set is more standard, but still a pleasure to hear, including a very fine 'Black Peter'. Grateful Dead Stanley Theatre Pittsburgh, PA 12/1/79 - Saturday Two China Cat Sunflower [5:21] > I Know You Rider [7:18] ; Looks Like Rain [7:37] ; He's Gone (1) [23:33] > C C Rider [6:58] > Space [6:#52] > Drums [10:26] > Not Fade Away [8:51] > Black Peter [11:14] > Sugar Magnolia [8:21] Encore One More Saturday Night [4:51] Comments (1) includes a Gloria Jam You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod121319.mp3 Best of luck to you today! This week we follow up last week's Deadpod with the second set from the band's performance on August 16, 197 in Telluride Colorado. I have to admit to scratching my head at this 'Push' opener, but the 'Samson and Delilah' that follows is always on point for a Sunday show :) 'He's Gone' leads into a mildly interesting Drums and Space, but the highlight for me is the quite good 'Other One' for the time period. 'Truckin' leads into 'Black Peter' and a closing 'Good Lovin'. They return for a double encore - 'Touch' into the wierdest 'Brokedown' you'll ever hear. Grateful Dead Town Park Telluride, CO 8/16/87 - Sunday Two When Push Comes To Shove [4:25]> Samson And Delilah [6:58]> He's Gone [10:28]> Drums [9:48]> Space [5:40]> The Other One [6:47]> Truckin' [6:18]> Black Peter [8:56]> Good Lovin' [8:17] Encore Touch Of Grey [6:01]> Brokedown Palace You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod082319.mp3 thank you my friends for your kind support "Summer flies and August dies the world grows dark and mean"
For this 'Days Between' week, on the day following what would have been Jerry Garcia's 77th Birthday, we feature a wonderful set from July 29th, 1974. The band returns following a Seastones' set and leads off with an unusual 'He's Gone'. 'Truckin' follows and while Weir screws up the lyrics, Garcia breaks out into what becomes around a 23 minute jam, in and out of a hint of 'Spoonful' then 'Nobody's Fault' and the first verse of 'The Other One'. There's a great jam out of that into the tight 'Wharf Rat' 'Around and Around' follows them they doubleshift into 'Peggy O'. The 'US Blues' that follows is hot, as is the jam in 'Sugar Magnolia' to close the set. While 'Casey Jones' is listed as the encore, I've read that the band never left the stage... Grateful Dead Capital Centre Landover , MD 7/29/74 - Monday Three He's Gone [13:21] > Truckin' [8:35] > Nobody's Fault But Mine [2:49] > The Other One [14:39] > Spanish Jam > Wharf Rat [9:26] ; Around And Around [5:11] ; Peggy-O [6:05] ; U.S. Blues [5:34] ; Sugar Magnolia [8:56] Encore Casey Jones [6:44] Comments Spanish Jam timing included in the Other one. This months podcast takes us back to the Spring of 1973... this era of the band shows them jamming with a very jazzy approach, and its a lot of fun. At halftime, Bob delivers some great Clapton. This week we are fortunate enough to be able to hear the second set of the band's outstanding performance on October 2nd, 1972 in Springfield MA. If you caught last week's Deadpod you know this is a fine recording and that the band is at the top of their game. While the set starts out a bit slowly I think it more than makes up for it by the time we get to GSET. The Half-Step into Stella Blue is a wonderful surprise. The 'Truckin' has a great buildup into the short but sweet 'Nobody's Fault' jam that leads into drums.. The 'Morning Dew' is wonderful. Sugar Mag closes and they return for a delicious double encore, Grateful Dead Springfield Civic Center Arena Springfield, MA 10/2/72 - Monday Two The Promised Land [3:00] ; He's Gone > Me And Bobby McGee [#5:15] ; China Cat Sunflower [6:21] > I Know You Rider [4:56] ; Tomorrow Is Forever [5:25] ; Greatest Story Ever Told [5:36] ; Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo [8:09] > Stella Blue [7:09] ; Truckin' [7:33] > Nobody's Fault But Mine Jam [2:20] > Jam [1:20] > Drums [1:23] > Jam [8:07] (3) > Morning Dew [11:52] ; Sugar Magnolia [8:05#] Encore Uncle John's Band [7:23] ; Johnny B.
