In this episode I bring you another great conversation with Dr. John Ogrodniczuk. This is the third time he's been on the podcast and it's always an honour to speak with him.John is a Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the UBC Psychotherapy Program, one of North America's largest medically based psychotherapy training programs. His research program focuses on a variety of psychotherapies and patient populations, with a particular focus on personality disorders and men's mental health. Dr. Ogrodniczuk has held several grants to support his research, which has led to over 300 scientific publications. John is also the Founder of HeadsUpGuys, a leading global resource for supporting men with depression. This episode marks a special occasion as his organization, HeadsUpGuys, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. In addition to his research, Dr. Ogrodniczuk is involved with teaching medical students and psychiatry residents, serves as a mental health consultant for various organizations, and maintains a psychotherapy practice. We had a lot to talk about in this episode, including a Heads Up Guys campaign called Step up for Him a campaign taking action in support of the millions of men across the globe – our brothers, fathers, partners, sons, friends, colleagues – who struggle with their mental health, often in silence. Clink the link to learn more about how you can get involved.HeadsUpGuys is the world's leading online resource for men's mental health. That's why we wanted to have this conversation - not to "fix" it, but to hold space (see what I did there..) for us to really talk about why it's so damn hard, what may be influencing our desire to fix or solve, why we struggle to make a change towards just holding space, and some tools we have used to help our own individual experiences with friends, family, acquaintances, and intimate relationships.  Follow Modern MaskulinityInstagramTikTokYoutubeConnect with the Host'sAtlas Mecca | @therelationshipcoach_Anwar Ahmed | @anwarahmed4Featured On: Top Masculinity Podcasts Audio Produced by: Chris Smith

Does it allow me to be who I really am, or do I have to wear a mask everywhere I go? Is success what I want, or am I actually scared of playing big? So our purpose with this weeks episode is to dive in: what is our edge, how do we find it, how do we know when we have moved too far beyond it, and what exactly are healthy ways of finding our edge that are driven by desire and not by desperation or insecurity? To support your journey with us, here is a quote we mention from the book, "The Way of The Superior Man." “In any given moment, a man's growth is optimized if he leans just beyond his edge, his capacity, his fear. He should not be too lazy, happily stagnating in the zone of security and comfort. Nor should he push far beyond his edge, stressing himself unnecessarily, unable to metabolize his experience. He should lean just slightly beyond the edge of fear and discomfort. Constantly. In everything he does.”Sponsors:MenzLeague: an online personal development platform for men. Unfortunately, the negative affects of porn on our psyche and what we believe is "real sex" are also substantial. Men, it's time to talk. This is one of the most important conversations we have because sex is a huge topic in our lives, and yet something we rarely ever talk about with full honesty. We go deep, we share very vulnerable truths + hilarious stories, and we share our take on how to go about changing our own perspectives towards sex + how to start thinking about the next generation.   If you enjoyed this episode or any of our previous episodes, please leave us a rating! Dr. John Ogrodniczuk talks about anxiety over the holidays, breathing, sleep and visualizations can help you get through some of these stressful periods of your life. Heads Up Guys is an online resource created at the University of British Columbia and was created by Dr. John.  Men will often talk about feeling angry or irritable rather than sad or down. These myths can also feel like handcuffs for men, preventing them from reaching out to others for even a little support. This contributes to many men not seeking support until their depression is very severe, if at all. This can place men at an increased risk of taking their own lives HeadsUpGuys | Manage & Prevent Depression in Men
