A Clare MEP is set to head up an EU Committee tasked with keeping tabs on artificial intelligence. Scariff's Michael McNamara has been appointed Co-Chair of the European Parliament's AI Monitoring Group, which has responsibility for implementing the Artificial Intelligence Act, that became law in August. The group will aim to ensure systems used by businesses, schools, states, and the general public are fairly regulated based on the risk they pose to society. Independent Member of the Renew Europe Group, McNamara says its vital the technology isn't abused.

Paul Minter, formerly of the Blues and Royals, was one of the first soldiers into Helmand, and many years later one of the last to leave. With the words of an MP briefing him before his first tour - "Don't worry, not a round will be fired" ringing in his ears; 4 tours of Afghanistan, 1 in Iraq, a Mention in Dispatches, blown up twice by IED's, and countless contacts began to leave their mark. Next thing you know you are arrested in London by the Bomb Disposal squad... In search of a solution to his problems Paul sought out help and then like all good recon soldiers, gathered as much intelligence as he could and dragged himself back from the abyss. Paul was born in East London and played in the streets close to his beloved West Ham United. By the age of 8 he had already made his mind up that he was going to be in the military.His first choice was the Royal Marines but the recruiting office that he went to steered him towards the 9th /12th Lancers. He eventually trained in the Royal Tank Regiment and then transferred to the Blues and Royals. One of the officers in the Blues and Royals at the time was James Blunt. During his service Prince William, Prince Harry and Arthur Soames (Winston Churchills grandson) were also officers in the regiment.Paul saw active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq and saw war first hand. He was continually engaged with the Taliban and was subjected to one of the biggest ambushes in the Afghan conflict. It was during this fight that he worked alongside one of the UKs most decorated soldiers Mick Flynn. The military angels were looking down at Paul and his comrades. They were engaged in a fight and despite being small in number they successfully defended their position. Some of their colleagues were less fortunate.Mental trauma began to take hold and during an incident Paul had convinced himself that a man on the tube was carrying a bomb. Paul tackled the man to the ground and when police officers attended it was quickly discovered that the man was an innocent commuter and Paul was duly arrested and taken away in handcuffs. Despite the best efforts of some members of the military Paul remained in service but was eventually medically discharged..After losing several comrades to suicide, Paul founded Head Up to enable veterans and service personnel to access mental health support. How can I assess integrity and growth plans if it's communicated casually as opposed to a place to access/as a resource? -- Think about providing various touchpoints of opportunity to learn more about people on a behavioral level -- Understand what the Rising Stylist does well and how they want to grow from a technical level -- Goal alignment: Where do you want to be, and how can we both push each other to grow and learn together?-- There needs to be more intentional conversations (less open-ended) but also honesty about the vision for the salon/space, how you are looking for folks to grow, and what might be coming that is on the road map. This will help Rising Stylists make informed decisions and Owners be more comfortable about talent coming into their space.-- This is not an individual profession; being a business owner is not an individual task (you're leading & managing people and shepherding a vision. You can't effectively shepherd without being able to share a clear vision, get feedback, and share expectations.-- At school, people have varying experiences because they don't know what they should experience. -- Do the educators stay with you for the whole haircut or walk away and come back? How do we work together?-- Victor predicts that we will return to caring more about the fundamentals (WE all need to define what that means), but it will be led by the guests' needs/wants. -- Guests will notice you gave them the exact cut they wanted, but if they say it doesn't look the best on them and a stylist doesn't have the fundamentals, they won't be able to satisfy the client....

If you're the kind of person that doesn't give a whole lotta' "you know what's" about fine jewelry or diamonds, or where the prices come from, I'm here to tell you, that's okay.  In fact, I think it's perfectly normal. If diamonds, gemstones, precious metals and fine jewelry don't interest you…don't learn about them. I believe this is true for pretty much all things.  If something doesn't interest you, find someone who knows their stuff, and let them do the work for you. This is a common theme in pretty much every podcast I've done so far, mostly because it's almost always a fail safe way to get things done quickly, and easily. (With one important footnote that I'll mention at the end.) I think the idea of finding an expert to make your life easy, particularly in the jewelry department, makes sense and saves time because there is a lot to learn, and quite frankly a lot of people think it's boring. And that's perfectly okay, because there are people like us…professional jewelry experts…all over the world…who DO take an interest in it, and learn about it, and study it and then arrange for these valuable items, and powerful symbols to be at the ready, when YOU'RE ready to take the plunge. I know people want you to care more, but if you don't, you don't.  And there's no shame in that. What I've found over the years is that a lot of guys are cool with whatever they buy when they know just 2 things: How much does it cost? Is she going to love it? These are highly logical questions, and important ones. They may be the only 2 questions that need answering before you decide what to buy. This got me thinking. I used to know the late, great Chris Farley back in my college days at Marquette University, and that sometimes leads me to think of the movie Tommy Boy. (If you haven't seen it, you should. It's good old '90's humor, and Farley is a classic!) There is a scene the movie that illustrates my point about seeking out expert advice to make life easier as you get to your end game. It's near the beginning, and Tommy Boy's dad, "Big Tom," is talking “sales” at his wedding to a bunch of guys at and around his table, and he says, “Of course I could get a helluva' good look at a T-bone steak by sticking my head up a bulls ass…but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.” I love that line because it clearly illustrates what I'm talking about when I tell people to seek out experts, and let them do their work on your behalf. Like when you're hunting for the right piece of jewelry. If you're not interested in knowing more about what you're buying besides what it costs and if she'll like it or not...no worries. Take the butcher's word for it...and hit the "go" button. But here's the footnote I promised: this only holds true if you're dealing with a reputable place. And how do you find that place?  You ask around, read some reviews…use word-of-mouth…visit a website…or you could listen to Episode 36 called “Diamonds, Heroes, and A Simple Answer: The Best Advice for Making Jewelry Buying Easy” where I spell it out for you. Physically going to a jewelry store is a thousand times more effective than trying to purchase online, because you can actually talk to the butcher. (Of course I'm referring to a jewelry professional.) It's like having a human search engine standing right in front of you to answer your questions (if you have them) as they guide you to the perfect piece for your particular situation. To loosely quote Big Tom:  "They're going to help you get that jewelry…and you won't need to stick your head up a bulls ass to do it. In May of 2009, Seattle's Drea Mizer was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. She faced weeks of grueling cancer treatment, including 8 chemo treatments, 5 blood transfusions and 2 surgeries. But thanks to the fact that there was enough blood on hand - by December of that year, she was declared NED, No Evidence of Disease. Today, Drea is alive and part of our Savor Life Save a Life campaign thanks to a team of gifted surgeons and Bloodworks Northwest donors she'll never know.
