Jesus came up from the dead out of the abyss! (Romans 10:7) As we have stated repeatedly, Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth. (Ephesians 4:9) This speaks of the heart of the earth as in Matthew 12:40, and the abyss in several passages in the New Testament. One such passage is Revelation 9:1-3, where the abyss or the bottomless pit is referred to as the place of demons, a furnace of smoke, and evil. That all means that Hades, the abyss, the bottomless pit, the lower parts of the earth, and the center of the earth are all synonymous terms in the New Testament, and we prove it in this podcast. Jesus was our substitute in the hell of flames and torment that the wicked rich man went to in Luke 16:23-24! The sacrifice of Jesus in Hades was a part of the first message Peter preached on the day of Pentecost after the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in other tongues. (Acts 2:24-31) That was in the first Pentecostal message ever preached! So, Jesus going into hell for us is a Pentecostal, Holy Spirit and fire, message! Jesus died the deaths and went to the hell of torment, agony, and fire in our place, so that all who will receive His sacrifice and live for Him will be delivered from that awful eternity. I am a believer and follower of Jesus, so when I die, I will miss hell and gain heaven! The same can be said of ALL that will trust in Jesus and in His awesome sacrifice. I hope you are one of His! If not, you can be one of His right now. How? First acknowledge your sinful condition: “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Then repent: “Repent {change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah} and be baptized, each of you, in the Name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins.” (Acts 2:34 Amplified) Then believe that God raised Jesus from the dead to justify YOU, and confess with your mouth (out loud), from your heart, that He is your Lord and Savior: “Because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord {recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God}, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes {in Christ as Savior} resulting in his justification {that is being made righteous- being freed from guilt of sin and made acceptable to God}, resulting in and confirming {his} salvation.” (Romans 10:9, 10 Amp.) I’ll leave the importance of baptism in water and consistent instruction for living in God to a good local church and pastor. By “good” I mean an anointed, Word-abiding, Spirit- filled, tongue-talking and praying, healing-ministering, faith-filled church. Don’t waste your time going to a dead, weak, spineless, and gutless church that preaches people out of their inheritance in Christ! Find a powerhouse in Christ Jesus! I would NEVER go to a church that does not believe in winning people to the Lord Jesus, that does not pray for the sick for healing, that does not cast out demons, that does not minister to people the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the manifestation of speaking in other tongues, and that preaches sermonettes instead of the unadulterated Word of the living God! Gossip Kills the Church: Secret Attacks Secret Attacks These could look much like the above practices but with the intention of making problems or sin known to others. Secret attacks against another sibling in Christ is actually an attack on Jesus directly. It is birthed from a desire to make sure everyone “knows” about the sinner among us, or worse, that there is someone that is not living as they “say” they are living. It only takes a few days for this type of thing to get out of control and cause serious damage to the unity of the church. Not only is it demonic, it is intended to do damage. This is often seen in the local church when someone doesn’t feel right about something and begins to keep tabs, make judgments, and then spread such things. For example, they see a sister always coming in late to service, leaving quickly afterward and not engaging. They will begin to watch this person intently, each week, and make notes of her actions. Then they will assume that the sister is in sin because she is not setting the example of timeliness and in their judgment have decided that such should be dealt with, after all, this person teaches a bible study on Thursdays. So they begin to call, talk, pray for and make it known that this teacher should be called out for her lack of holiness. What the person doesn’t know, is that the devil has snared them. How? First, the devil has made them notice this, not God the Spirit. Second, their judgment is evidence of their heart: they have a problem, not a solution. Third, they intention is not even for the joy of their sister, but for her pain and correction. Fourth, they fail to know that their judgment is bearing false witness because they don’t even know the truth of this person’s medical condition, schedule, or the fact that she prays with the leaders before and after church. And quite frankly, it is none of their business. Busybodies are also murderers in the church. That’s another post. "Gossip is murder and it comes in many forms. Do you have fabulous senior-level credentials, but you're not getting the job offer? Join career expert and award-winning author Andrew LaCivita as he discusses executive job interview tips: 3 keys to getting a senior role! This puts you at zero… What's happening when you're job interviewing? You exchange information. You need to have the right responses to the employer’s questions. You need to ask good questions. You need the right background. You need to impress. When you're a junior- or mid-level resource, that’s typically good enough to get hired. When you're at the senior level, it’s not. The 3 big keys… It’s about their future, not your past. You need to get the interviewers, the most senior interviewers, thinking into the future. If you can't get them to imagine what their life will be like and what their company will look like with you there, you'll never get hired. You can have a great background. You could have been there, done that. That's great. But, if you can't shift their mindset from thinking you’re serviceable to thinking how you’ll catapult them forward, you’re not going to get hired. How? One of the easiest ways to shift their thinking is to shift the discussion from your background and your credentials to their goals. Boom. Where do they see the company going? What exactly do they want to accomplish? Once you know this, articulate exactly how you will take them there—step by step. Here’s what I would do first. Here’s what I would do second. Leaders are inclusive and inspiring. You need to be the high tide that lifts all the boats. Leaders build more leaders. They don't build more followers. You need to show them you're great at inspiring and inclusive. You're great at building teams. They're probably going to ask you how you’ll build your team. That’s fine. But, I'm talking about giving them that deep, great feeling that having you there will inspire everyone and you're a great person to work with. How? First, think about your job interviewing process. Most of these senior-level interviewing processes start with senior people up front (because they don't want to waste anybody's time). Then you have a middle part, which includes several other people. You’ll interview with colleagues, internal customers, some staff, and so on. Toward the end, you’ll revisit (or visit for the first time) with a number of the senior folks. Along the way, you'll be gathering a lot of information as you speak to lots of people. One of the easiest and most effective ways to show you’re inclusive is to make several references to the other people and the insight they shared! For example, “Hey, Mary Jane said something about this... It really struck me. I love that idea. Mr. Executive Man, I'd love to get your perspective on that especially as it relates to [insert something else here which better be a more grand something else for a deeper level of insight].” If you can include a number of references to other people in the organization and the great conversations you've had with them, the senior interviewers will start to see you as part of the team (already). It’s like you’re already working there! This also reinforces key number one and gets them to look into the future regarding how you’ll be to work with. Stay away from one-and-done questions because then you’ll be done. You’ll obviously be given a chance throughout the process to ask lots of questions. In addition to asking great questions, you need to avoid asking questions—however awesome they are—that lead to dead ends. If you ask dead end questions, you’ll be a dead end. Specifically, I mean asking a great question, then receiving their response, and then moving on to the next question. That's the big mistake! The message you're sending to them is that you are a puddle skipper. You are not somebody who's digging deep to get information and collecting it all. You're not well researched. You’re not digging deep enough to get the information you need to make a good decision. Ouch. Now, they're starting to imagine how you would be as a leader there. Working with the people in your group or other units and not digging deep enough. How? If you have follow-up questions and drill down in your line of questioning, you send the message you are well researched, thoughtful, and making sure you're getting all the information you need to make a good decision. It sends them the message when you're working with your staff, you will make sure you're getting all the information to make good decisions. That is something they’ll want so when they give you the autonomy to run your unit or run your division they have confidence you'll be a great researcher, you’ll get all the information, and make well-educated decisions. If you don’t do this, they’ll think you’re someone who skims the surface and oftentimes makes great mistakes or bad choices because you didn't have all the information. Want more help getting hired? I have a good friend who grew up in East Germany in the bad old days. The East German authorities suspected that her family would try to immigrate to the West (which they did), so they naturally told the Stasi–the East German secret service–to watch them (which they did). After the fall of the Wall, the Stasi files were opened and my friend requested to see her dossier. I have to say, it was disappointing. For some reason (perhaps having to do with John le Carre), I thought the Stasi was a ruthlessly efficient, super-clandestine, surveillance-repression machine. But I couldn’t find that machine in my friend’s file. It was boring. She did this, did that, she did the other thing. Why would anyone care? Read Gary Bruce‘s wonderful The Firm: The Inside Story of the Stasi (OUP, 2010) and you can find out why. But don’t expect it to make any sense, because the picture Gary paints is of a kind of Bizarro World. Like their handlers in the Soviet Union, the East German communist party was mindlessly paranoid. They saw–or at least claimed to see–“enemies” under every rock. This (mis)perception was the pretext for the creation of the Stasi: it would protect the revolution from said “enemies.” (It would also prevent East Germans from fleeing to the West, but that was just an added bonus.) How? First, they needed agents. These weren’t hard to get in the post-war years. There were lots of idealistic communists who were quite willing to go to work for the cause. One of the revelations of Gary’s work is that many (most?) Stasi agents believed in what they were doing. Those that didn’t recognized that the pay was good. Next, you needed your trusty agents to recruit “co-workers,” that is, informants. This was not as easy. Gary’s subjects worried a lot about meeting their recruitment quotas; really good informants were hard to find. But generally they found them (or made them up). Finally, you had to have your agents work their informants, that is, meet with them regularly and pump them for valuable information. This was the hardest job of all. Gary’s work makes clear that most Stasi agents viewed the regular meeting (again, they had quotas) as a hassle. More than that, they were generally seen as completely unproductive. We now know what the Stasi agents could doubtlessly have told us long ago: there were no “enemies.” With the singular exception of Poland, no Eastern Bloc state ever hosted anything like an organized “opposition” to communism or anything else. A lot of folks were unhappy with, for example, Party hypocrisy, the price of sausage, or the inability to travel abroad. But there was no “underground” to go into to fight for, well, whatever one might fight for. This being so, the vast majority of Stasi agents worked for decades without ever turning up anything beyond the occasional extra-marital affair–hardly the kind of thing that would endanger the “republic.” What they did accomplish, and perhaps what the Stasi itself was meant to accomplish, was to frighten the populace. You don’t need to watch everyone to give the impression that everyone is being watched and, if “seen,” being punished. Gary’s work makes clear that most Stasi agents viewed the regular meeting (again, they had quotas) as a hassle. More than that, they were generally seen as completely unproductive. We now know what the Stasi agents could doubtlessly have told us long ago: there were no “enemies.” With the singular exception of Poland, no Eastern Bloc state ever hosted anything like an organized “opposition” to communism or anything else. A lot of folks were unhappy with, for example, Party hypocrisy, the price of sausage, or the inability to travel abroad. But there was no “underground” to go into to fight for, well, whatever one might fight for. This being so, the vast majority of Stasi agents worked for decades without ever turning up anything beyond the occasional extra-marital affair–hardly the kind of thing that would endanger the “republic.” What they did accomplish, and perhaps what the Stasi itself was meant to accomplish, was to frighten the populace. You don’t need to watch everyone to give the impression that everyone is being watched and, if “seen,” being punished. I have a good friend who grew up in East Germany in the bad old days. The East German authorities suspected that her family would try to immigrate to the West (which they did), so they naturally told the Stasi–the East German secret service–to watch them (which they did). After the fall of the Wall, the Stasi files were opened and my friend requested to see her dossier. I have to say, it was disappointing. For some reason (perhaps having to do with John le Carre), I thought the Stasi was a ruthlessly efficient, super-clandestine, surveillance-repression machine. But I couldn’t find that machine in my friend’s file. It was boring. She did this, did that, she did the other thing. Why would anyone care? Read Gary Bruce‘s wonderful The Firm: The Inside Story of the Stasi (OUP, 2010) and you can find out why. But don’t expect it to make any sense, because the picture Gary paints is of a kind of Bizarro World. Like their handlers in the Soviet Union, the East German communist party was mindlessly paranoid. They saw–or at least claimed to see–“enemies” under every rock. This (mis)perception was the pretext for the creation of the Stasi: it would protect the revolution from said “enemies.” (It would also prevent East Germans from fleeing to the West, but that was just an added bonus.)
