As the year draws to a close, we look back at some of the seismic stories shaping the year including how Labour's landslide victory has turned into a landslide in their polling numbers with dissatisfaction with the government at a lofty 70%, and unhappiness with the PM at a remarkable 61%. Plus, a hard year for the Royal Family, as King Charles fights his way back to full health. Oasis reforms, Taylor Swift returns, and the country riots. Episode 087: Look Back in Anger by John Osborne Host: Douglas Schatz Guests: Dan Rebellato and Atri Banerjee Welcome to The Play Podcast where we explore the greatest new and classic plays. Each episode we choose a single play to talk about in depth with our expert guest. We'll discuss the play's origins, its themes, characters, structure and impact. For us the play is the thing. John Osborne's Look Back in Anger is one of the landmark plays of twentieth century British theatre. It's raging protagonist, Jimmy Porter, represented a generation of disaffected youth, and its proletarian setting heralded a new style of ‘kitchen sink drama'. But how well has Jimmy's abusive anger aged? I'm delighted to welcome two experts to help us address this question, and many more: Dan Rebellato, the author of 1956 and All That: The Making of Modern British Drama, and, Atri Banerjee, the director of the first revival of the play in London for 25 years, currently running at the Almeida Theatre.
Tom returns from his trip to Hawaii; Tom sounds off on the presidential election and where it all went wrong for Democrats; Tom embraces the incoming Trump administration when it comes to a looming EPA mandate for Hammond, Indiana; guest Nashville artist Kaitlyn Croker performs her song “You're the Hero”.
In this episode Ben and Alex talk about Dynamic Pricing. From pumpkins to flights, how it works? Is it fair? And why you may need to consider it in an exam answer.

Oasis, the Manchester band led by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, conquered the charts in the 1990s with rock anthems like "Wonderwall." This month, they did something no one saw coming: Announced a reunion. In 2025, the band will play 19 dates in five cities across the UK and Ireland, their first shows with both brothers in the lineup since breaking up in 2009 due to long-simmering tensions between them. Formed in 1991 with Noel as chief songwriter and guitarist and Liam as lead vocalist, the band helped define the sound of Britpop alongside peers like Blur, Suede, and Pulp. Noel's and Liam's feuding made it seem like the band would never reunite, so this upcoming tour has generated a minor frenzy, resulting in insane ticket prices, the band's songs surging in popularity on streaming services, and countless diehard fans zipping up their parkas in anticipation. As two casual listeners to the band, we want to understand the hype behind this long-awaited reunion, so we went through the band's catalog to uncover what makes this working-class Mancunian outfit so beloved, and see whether we can learn to love Oasis. Songs Discussed Oasis - Wonderwall, Supersonic, Shakermaker, Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, All Around The World, Go Let It Out, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Little By Little, The Turning The New Seekers - I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony) John Lennon - Gimme Some Truth, #9 Dream Sheryl Crow - If It Makes You Happy Learn more about your ad choices. It's hard to overstate just how big a global phenomenon Oasis were at their peak in the mid '90s, but it wasn't just the music that made them compelling — it was the rock star antics and dramatic love-hate relationship between Liam and Noel Gallagher, the brothers who fronted the band and wrote the songs, respectively. After years of mini-breakups and potshots at each other in the press (and fistfights in real life), they disbanded seemingly for good in 2009. But now, after 15 years, they've announced they're getting back together for a run of shows in the U.K. and Ireland.Steven Hyden — culture writer at Uproxx and Oasis superfan — and Paolo Hewitt — music journalist and author of two books on the band, "Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis," and "Forever the People: Six Months on the Road With Oasis" — join guest host Jonathan Montpetit to explain why, when nostalgia reunion tours are a dime a dozen, this particular one is such a big deal. For transcripts of Front Burner, please visit: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/frontburner/transcripts

Welcome back to the madness that is What HPND 2US. Sam lets the duo of Nate and Huw run the ship, which only ends up in circles and down rabbit holes. The big drop from the week was the recent announcement from Oasis. We take that and go into the idea of gatekeeping. Let's be honest we're going on a weird ride this week in conversation and this might be a residual effect from a couple of weeks back. Stay safe out there folks and talk to you next week.

Before our July Summer vacation, a really great talk with author Daniel Rachel (Like Some Forgotten Dream, Don't Look Back In Anger, Walls Come Tumbling Down) to discuss his latest book, Too Much Too Young: The 2-Tone Records Story! The music of Ska was the next big thing in London, and in Coventry, where many of the bands percolated in a vacuum. They were less effected by outside trends, and created their own thing. It's about the way Ska music, back to the early artists of Jamaica, makes you feel! The way it moves you! Daniel and the guys delve into that and what fueled the black & white-checkered trend of the Brits who adopted this music as their own! The Americans got into the act, too, as both Ray and Markus indicate in this episode. If you don't know much about Ska, dig in and start to learn right here! When Noel tells a journalist he's leaving Oasis, Liam feels like he's losing control. If the band is going down, he wants to be the one to call time on it. But in reality neither brother has control over the future of Oasis. Because their bandmates have had enough of the feuding.
