Hoy estrenamos 'Quiero y Quiero', tercera carta de presentación de 'Trazos', el nuevo disco en solitario de Shuarma. Tara speaks with Oyindamola Animashaun, a freelance fashion stylist, costume designer and budding film photographer. You may recognise her work with Irish musicians like Soule, Aimee, Super Silly, Jafaris and Zali to name but a few! In this episode Tara picks Oyinza’s brain about how she approaches styling, charity and vintage shopping.
Oyindamola aka oyinza aka zeda is a freelance stylist, costume designer, shoot and event producer, director and budding film photographer. A lot of roles, yes but in her industry, you really have to become a jack of all trades. Now 23, she started her path in fashion at 17 working on fashions shows for charities, brands and college societies. Over her young career, she has been lucky to work with organisations such as Nigerian Carnival Ireland and Dublin City Council where she was able to style and produce big-scale shows attended by diverse audiences. She has also been tapped for styling by artists such as Aimée, Super Silly, Jafaris, Soulé and Zali amongst others for shows and shoots. Apart from her work, her whole schtick is all about being authentically YOU every chance you get, in the way you speak, the way you dress and the way you exist. At the end of this podcast we literally lose our mind. You have been warned. Thank you DEPOP for being the best sponsor imaginable. Oyin chose the shop of the week this week and I do not understand how I didn't know about this page before @darkparadisevintage for curated Trailer Trash Chic.
She has been compared to Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill and it's easy to see why. With her her striking looks and even more striking sublime vocal style, Joy Crookes is one to watch for 2020. A Bengali Mother and an Irish father and living in London, Joy has taken musical inspiration from many culturally rich places. She joined The Fergal D'Arcy Show to perform her brand new single 'Early' with one of Ireland's most exciting current artists Jafaris. She is THE 'Leoness' There's a wave of incredible black RnB artists in Ireland right now. Soulé, Jafaris, Rejjie Snow to name a few and thankfully it doesn't look like crashing any time soon. Surfing on this welcome sea of amazing new music is Erica Cody. Muireann didn't touch her hair! ;-) The Dubliner has supported En Vogue and Jessie J and speaks to Muireann about how she found writing songs was a real therapy (her Mother had cancer when she was ten), her plans and D.T.MH. ! Erica's debut EP 'Leoness' is out today and features 'Where U Really From' . The song is inspired by growing up in Ireland as a mixed race female where she gets asked that question almost on a daily basis. "Where are you from?" "Dublin" "No, but really!?" It can get pretty tiring Erica wants people to own their identity, being it gender, race or sexuality. “I’m black. I’m Irish. I am me.” Listen to her perform 'Where U Really From' live on The Muireann O'Connell show: [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2019/04/12133907/ERICA-CODY-WHERE-YOU-REALY-FROM.mp3"][/audio] Listen to her perform one of her heroes. Welcome to the 4th installment of the #Mabcast where Nik and Dylan give their thoughts on the latest tracks, detail Jafaris album launch party and discuss the Northern Irish hip hop scene. Lock in !
Welcome, players, to NO ENCORE #154. Jafaris drops in with just days to go until his debut album hits the world, an old friend makes his mark, and the gang try to solve the conundrum that is Andrew Hozier-Byrne. ACT ONE: Icelandic awkwardness, Massive Attack-soundtracked weirdness, and Academy Award-uselessness - it's the preamble. ACT TWO: The boys cop what a mess they've made of this week's news section much too late, so hopefully that top 10 saves the day. ACT THREE: Jafaris is on the rise. Debut album Stride is imminent. He opens up on his faith, his drive, his artistry, realising potential, and why Los Angeles provides its own unique inspiration. ACT FOUR: Time to enter the Wasteland, Baby! as lapsed fans and sceptics unite to hurl themselves headfirst into Hozier's sophomore long form offering. ACT FIVE: SOTW w/ Big Thief, Kojaque, P!nk, Hatchie, and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. EXIT MUSIC: King Pallas | 'The Dead'
Jafaris is one of the most exciting Irish acts. His debut EP 'Velvet Cake' clearly signposted his inevitable rise to stardom, with an impressive aptitude for introspective songwriting, paired with a keen ear for quality production and catchy melodies. Jafaris continued to prove his talents onstage as a performer, channeling his love for dance, with an impressive festival run during the summer. From acting in Sing Street, to performing onstage with RTE's orchestra, it's hard to predict what Jafaris might do next. With this in mind, we sat down to discuss his plans for the debut album 'Stride', which releases on March 8th. Known primarily for his music, my good friend Jafaris is a hugely talented and multifaceted individual (as you’ll get to see during the interview). Edith Bowman was in town yesterday to help launch the new Three Ireland #MadeByMusic initiative, featuring amazing Irish artists and enabling these artists to create deadly music videos. Check out the amazing video by Jafaris here. More to come from Saint Sister and Kormac soon. Edith called into Today FM and became Ed Smith's first ever interview. How cool is that? Edith is a broadcasting legend have a listen above to her hilarious chat with Ed about music, films, nail files and more.
