What a delight to have Morgana as today's guest. Morgana is a singer songwriter who you may know as being one half of Saint Sister. Now, she's focused on her solo project, of which I am a giant fan. We discuss life as an artist, age, sexism, the music industry, aiming big and being deluded, and I really hope you enjoy it. Get tickets for Morgana's tour here. In March 2025, IMRO hosted an in-person panel discussion moderated by music journalist Zara Hedderman – featuring Bekah Molony (Celaviedmai, Negro Impacto), Conor Cusack (Morgana, Saint Sister), and Gavin Elsted (Silverbacks). In an ever-changing industry, artist managers continue to provide a vital role in developing emerging artists and helping them sustain their career. This talk shed light on the relationship between artists and management, uncovering how the two work together. What do managers look for in an emerging artist? How do they build a career strategy for the artists they represent? How do they protect the best interest of their artists? This talk presented vital information for artists considering working with a manager and how to develop their career in the music industry.Bekah Molony is the head of D07 Artists, a Dublin based artist management, bookings and live event agency that represents and works with some of Ireland's most exciting talent. She is also the founder of Mo Cultivation, a community that focuses on ‘creating, connecting and celebrating' urban culture and Irish artists through events, content and community initiatives. With an undergrad in Event Management, a Masters in Emerging Media and as a Keychange alumni, Bekah's successful music industry career also includes programming exciting projects for brands and sharing knowledge as an industry speaker as she continues to create opportunities for the current and future creatives of Ireland. With over 15 years of experience working in the music industry, Conor Cusack has held a variety of roles across the independent sectors in Dublin, Berlin, and London. He brings his experience in music retail, recorded music, live, event production, product management, charity, and arts consultancy to his long standing career as an artist manager. Conor has managed artists professionally for over 10 years, both independently and as part of London based management firm ie:music. In 2023, he set up his own business, No Bother, a boutique Artist Management & Music Consultancy business. No Bother was set up to oversee the careers of a small number of highly progressive, and forward-thinking artists (Morgana, Saint Sister) and work closely with a small number of consultancy clients to help them achieve their creative and commercial goals. In his spare time he makes techno and plays in an Indie band called DIVIL.Gavin Elsted is an artist manager, label owner and DJ from Newbridge. He manages Choice Prize-nominated Silverbacks and oversees day to day operations at their Central Tones record label. He is a member of Dublin clubbing institution Lumo Club and is a partner in Kildare-based electronic label 045 Recordings.

This episode of the podcast is a little bit different. It's intended to shed light on some of the incredible creativity and art that is coming out of Ireland at the moment.I am most definitely not an expert in the realm of creativity, even less so to highlight what's good or bad about a certain song or book or whatever. But, I'm already way out of my depth with this podcast, so I said, why not make things worse for myself and try to add a new little series of episodes in order to keep things varied and to keep things interesting. From an even more selfish point of view, I decided to ask a good friend of mine to join in me in the series so that we now have a good excuse to keep in touch with each other on a more regular basis. Eoin, as you'll hear in this episode, comes from Cork but lives in Copenhagen in Denmark.Every week we're going to have a bit of a chat about an artist or piece of work by an artist that we think deserves discussion. This week, we talk about a band called Saint Sister. Link to the band below.open.spotify.com/artist/7ufZdjYTNe1vzA9Z6Fek14?si=FTTMVsQOSf6-2F1tw4UZdQ Hosted on Acast. Ace music journo and our very own super sub Zara Hedderman joins a returning Craig Fitzpatrick for an episode that's big on breaking news… and big on Bob. ACT ONE: How Craig helplessly listened last week, unable to come to an anguished Dave's aid, a Hedderman catch-up, and a taste of a Saint Sister chat to come. ACT TWO (8:50): Subterranean Homesick… News? We tease out a developing story as Mumford & Sons lose a banjo player so he can save us from Antifa, or something. We also discuss Britney Spears' heartbreaking new statement, T Pain's bizarre (and heartbreaking) plane encounter with Usher, a ridiculously cringeworthy case of accidental plagiarism, a visit to Kiss Korner and much, much more. ACT THREE (49:20): Ditching new album talk this week for a deep dive into the wonderful world of Bob Dylan. As the icon hits a milestone birthday, Zara is tasked with picking her Top 5 Dylan songs of all time… while Craig has been digging around in the absolute dregs of his back catalogue. Morgan McIntyre from Belfast and Gemma Doherty from Derry met as students at Trinity College, Dublin, and formed the duo ‘Saint Sister'. Their debut album, The Shape of Silence, was nominated for both the Choice Music Prize and the Northern Irish Music Prize in 2018. That year, in the run-up to the referendum to repeal Ireland's constitutional ban on abortion, they wrote a song called ‘Manchester Air', which explores a young couple's journey across the Irish Sea after an unexpected pregnancy. For decades, tens of thousands of women had been forced to make such costly and traumatic journeys to access reproductive healthcare. While 2018's momentous vote has finally seen the introduction of safe and legal abortion services in the Republic, women seeking such services in the North of Ireland are still being forced to travel abroad.‘Manchester Air' which was written on the island Inisheer off the west coast of Ireland was released on May 25th this year, the third anniversary of the referendum, and is featured on Saint Sister's new album, ‘Where I Should End', which comes out this month.Molly King, Head of Development at Other Voices, spoke to Saint Sister about music, memories, and the story behind ‘Manchester Air'. After Eight Show - Music That You Just Don't Hear Anywhere Else!
The After Eight Show goes out on 15 different radio stations in 5 countries. This week, as always, we had masses of #NewMusic in our playlist! An eclectic mix of original, intelligent, melodic, grown-up songs - #electronic, #rnb, #jazz, #blues and #acoustic. And mostly from artists who you have not heard of - yet! Our Luvva Cover, this week, is a stripped down, delicate and vulnerable version of a massively well known hit by Tears for Fears which makes it sound almost like a different song. It's by Jens Kuross and was included on his EP 'Art! At the Expense of Mental Health, Vol. 2'. It's such an interesting interpretation - give it a listen and see for yourself!
