After some brief basketball talk the guys get to talking about the ramifications of Jayden Gibson suffering a small setback in his recovery from his knee injury (1:50). Javonnie Gibson has a lot of people talking early in spring practice. Is this real (16:00)? We're all rooting for Jaren Kanak to be a good tight end (21:20). Who knows what's going to happen with the running back room (28:15)? Grant's excited about what he's heard about Troy Everett. Lee wants to know if it's okay to be positive about the offensive line again (32:50)? Let's talk about David Stone and what the defensive line could look like, but we must remind everybody that OU's secondary is a problem. And Grant wants to talk about Taylor Heim (41:15). Breaking down John Mateer's performance against Hawaii in Week 8 of the 2024 season. The stats were terrific (47:50). We give some love to the OU men's basketball team who looks to be on their way to the NCAA Tournament (57:45). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

Welcome to the Program Guyz Podcast! On Episode 161, the Guyz break down the hires of Nate Dreiling and Wes Goodwin, notably as linebackers coaches instead of as defensive coordinator. After that, they discuss the much-rumored move to offense for Jaren Kanak. Where there's smoke, there may be fire; where there is fire, there's a hot take about this Kanak move coming. Jaren Kanak joins the show.
We have quickly jumped into the true offseason of college football with the spring behind us. OU got some good news this past week with a couple of players committing out of the transfer portal at two positions of need (2:50). TCU's Damonic Williams still has not made his decision. Looks like there's a few other DT targets that OU could look at aside from Williams. Plus Grant thinks Lee's crazy for comparing Rondell Bothroyd's play last season to Reggie Grimes' play from 2022 (16:50). Jasiah Wagoner is off to Cal. Lee is surprised Jovantae Barnes is not in the portal (33:00). The guys defend Jaren Kanak and Lee struggles to find the Deion Burks TD pass that was the catalyst for all the recent criticism (38:40). Three OU players were selected in the NFL Draft. We also take a look at potential OU draft picks for 2025 (46:30). Caleb Williams is the No. 1 pick to the Bears. The Bears have never had a good QB, so Lee is excited for what could be with Williams. Skip this part if you don't care about how the Bears are set up for the Caleb Williams era. Also Grant loves Brock Bowers (55:25). Caleb Williams recently talked about competing with Spencer Rattler in 2021 and how he thought he was the better player, but did not win the job (1:06:15). For the first time (we think) we hear Caleb's account of the time he took the ball from Kennedy Brooks on 4th down against Kansas in 2021 (1:20:00). Spencer Rattler is a 5th Round pick to the Saints. Grant's been watching old OU games, specifically from the 2008 season (1:32:45). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Grant was bored by the spring game while Lee explains why the spring game was pretty interesting to him (1:25). We get into the breakdown beginning with Jackson Arnold and his play (8:30). Lee wants to talk about Michael Hawkins because there was a spring narrative about him looking really good, yet we didn't see much evidence of that in the spring game (23:15). The offensive line with Jackson Arnold played really well. Overall we're encouraged by what we saw from the OL (25:35). Deion Burks was terrific, but no other pass catchers really stood out (33:20). Sawchuk, Hicks, and Franklin all looked good at running back. The room looks to be in better shape than last season. Have we seen the last of Jovantae Barnes in an OU uniform (43:30)? We switch over to the defense and begin with the defensive line. Lee liked a good amount of what he saw, while Grant is very skeptical of the interior part of the line. Can the Sooners pick up some of these big D-linemen in the portal (56:45)? Not much to say about the linebackers aside from Kobie McKinzie looked good. Grant is still high on Jaren Kanak. Was he at fault for the second Burks TD? Lee could not figure out what coverage OU was in on the two long TDs (1:08:00). Thoughts on the OU secondary. Lee thinks Dez Malone may be a starter at corner. Grant liked what he saw from RSJ, but overall the secondary was slightly disappointing (1:13:50). We read your "3 Word Reviews" from the WoE Facebook page (1:19:10). Final thoughts on who stood out on offense. Grant wants RPOs to be eliminated (1:23:15). Final thoughts on defensive standouts (1:29:50). The kicking game will continue to be a massive question mark. Are you interested in the Miami (OH) kicker in the portal? Plus we go over other final disappointing thoughts from the scrimmage (1:31:50). Shane Whitter and Justin Harrington recently entered the transfer portal (1:39:40). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

Can Sooners break their losing skid & is there merit to rumors about Sooners' commits looking around?| Big visit weekend| New unis| VIP member Q&A questions answered| MUCH MORE 00:00 - Podcast intro 02:00 - Rumors, rumors, rumors about Sooners' commits. Five-star QB commit Jackson Arnold, four-star DE/EDGE Colton Vasek, and others have rumors swirling, and Brandon and Parker discuss that and more on the recruiting front. Things like a big visit weekend with four-star DL commit Derrick Leblanc, four-star EDGE/LB Tausili Akaka, and four-star DL Kayden McDonald on their official visits. 09:00 - Sooners' commit Erik McCarty impresses Parker he talks about how good he thinks he will be and is right now. And can this 2023 be the program-changing class they are expected to be? 15:00 - Do we expect one of the visitors this week to be in the Sooners' class by NSD? If so, who? What will it take to make that happen? How big will this class be, and will the turnover be like this off-season with Oklahoma? Brandon and Parker talk about "the purge" and how BV is telling people he will help them leave if they don't want to be bought in. 30:00 - How naive were we to not see this coming after last years internal issues on the team and those same players being around still? How could we not see this coming? Brandon and Parker admit their naiveness in all of this, too. 38:00 - If the Sooners lose, can they win another game this year or will they end up 3-9? 41:00 - What young guys do we expect to play a ton this week? Jaren Kanak? Gentry Williams? R Mason Thomas? Who else? Do we expect Kobie Mckinzie or Kip Lewis to redshirt this year still? What other youngsters do we expect to play? 44:00 - On top of youngsters playing, what rumors about players are true and is there anything going on with Theo Wease? 48:00 - We talk OU/KU. Why chose our prediction and more! 51:00 - Answering VIP member questions in our "Air your grievances out" thread where they were allowed to ask whatever and we responded in the thread and tried to answer them on multiple platforms. When will the embarrassment stop for Sooners after Texas STOMPS Oklahoma 49-0|Can it be fixed in 2022 season?| Three things that need fixed for OU to win| Recruiting fallout?| MORE Topic Timestamps: 00:00 - Podcast intro before Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune go scorched earth on the Sooners' play vs Texas and where this program is right now! 04:00 - How much worse can it get? Has Brent Venables' team quit already because Parker says it seems to be that way from the field view? No excuses, even without two main key players like Dillon Gabriel and Billy Bowman out. The program had so many bad "first times" in Texas's beating of Oklahoma. 09:00 - Talent (excluding backup QB, as we have seen with Davis Beville) is there, but is this a personnel problem? Is the Sooners' staff not playing the right guys in the right spots? Can this team gain the confidence to make a run? They looked dejected at the post-game podium. What's the issue with this team's football IQ? Examples of ineptness are talked about. 15:50 - Offense... W.T.F? WildWillie (Brayden Willis) and GrayCat (Eric Gray) worked so well between the '20s (20-yard line to 20-yard line), so why get away from it when you're in the red zone? And you lost all newness after halftime to surprise Texas, so why not have a wrinkle or two that isn't a STUPID jump pass? Why go back to Davis Beville? What can OU do offensively when Gabriel comes back? Brandon and Parker discuss how they need to feature Jalil Farooq, Brayden Willis, and Marvin Mims at ALL times they aren't running Gray, Marcus Major, or Jovantae Barnes. Get them out and space, and let those guys go to work! 26:00 - Is this team worn out? Venables talks about it, and Brandon cites a well-placed source that said similar to him last week and went into detail on that. 28:30 - Brandon and Parker name three things on the offense and defense that need fixed NOW for Oklahoma to start getting back on track, if that is possible at all! Names like Jaren Kanak, Gentry Williams, Woodi Washington staying at safety, Kani Walker, CJ Coldon, four-man fronts, or being multiple IF YOU'RE GOING TO CLAIM BEING MULTIPLE! Also, finding a different backup QB like Nick Evers, General Booty? Micah Bowens? 40:00 - Are there some older guys still not buying in or giving their all for this squad? Brandon and Parker discuss. 45:00 - What is this team's identity? Do they have one? How do they get one in mid-season if they don't have one already? And how much of this is personnel on defense and the fact the players were recruited for a different type of defense? Players are talented but look nothing like the players BV had at Clemson. 51:00 - Recruiting fallout? Is there one? Brandon and Parker talk over/under on two decommits. Answer may shock some and may shock others, but they break it down. The Colton Vasek rumors discussed. 56:40 - Will there be a change in how things are done? Could OU change some things up on the defensive side? Will BV take over full control of the defense? If there is a "fall guy," who will that be? 1:06:24 - Podcast over To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. In the opening take, Lee talks about how it's been many years since those who follow OU football have exercised a specific muscle. Then, Lee talks about how he's surprised OU-Texas has a betting line with Dillon Gabriel's status in doubt. Grant chimes in to talk about why he's not excited for this upcoming game, it doesn't seem like OU can win, and we talk more about previous OU games that are similar to OU's loss to TCU (6:15). Will Dillon Gabriel play vs. Texas (12:25)? Anything can happen in rivalry games, right? We talk about the 2009 OU-Texas game, which was the last time Texas was favored to beat OU (16:35). How does OU win this game if Dillon Gabriel doesn't play? The backup QB situation at OU is so terrible and we just figured out that Davis Beville was Pitt's 3rd string QB last season (22:00). How many points would it take for you to bet OU if you knew Beville was starting (29:00)? Lee thinks OU's defense can play better against Texas, but he's afraid it may not matter based on the QB situation. Grant is trying to figure out why OU's defense has looked this bad the last 2 games. It doesn't make sense (30:55). Texas has a bunch of really good skill players plus one of the best offensive playcallers in football. Super. Does it matter who plays QB for Texas (35:25)? We don't know who will be playing against Texas because there's so many unknown OU injuries (40:30). What's the deal with the major busts in OU's secondary (43:55)? We share our "gut feelings" on how OU-Texas will play out. Lee has a positive note about Davis Beville and it would be fun if Jaren Kanak played QB at times against Texas (47:20). Once again, there's some interesting matchups in the Big 12 this week (54:50). Time to make our picks, which were pretty good last week. Tennessee-LSU/TCU-Kansas/Utah-UCLA/Washington State-USC/Florida State-NC State (59:10). Grab bag topics at the end include Baker Mayfield playing bad football, Jalen Hurts looking great, and Tua's concussion (1:14:25). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9
PostGame: TCU takes Sooners to woodshed 55-24, so how does Venables and his staff fix this problem? TimeStamps: 00:00 - The podcast starts and Brandon and Parker go off right from the get-go. 03:00 - Dillon Gabriel and Damond Harmon injury updates 05:00 - Brandon and Parker are at a loss for words when it comes to talking about what they witnessed vs TCU. 07:00 - Should OU look to a four-man front instead of a three-man front? Brandon discusses personnel with Isaiah Coe, Jalen Redmond, Kelvin Gilliam, and others playing the interior defensive line. And he asks when they start playing Jaren Kanak more. When will they start to give players like Robert Spears-Jennings a look at safety? What about the younger players in general and giving them a look to see what they can bring to the table on Saturdays? 11:00 - Injuries, injuries, injuries... 13:00 - Parker calls his shot and says this about OU performance the rest of the year (listen to hear his prediction)... How can you recruit so many four and five-star players and struggle like this? And the question is asked if the Sooners lack of intricate defense under Grinch causes the in-depth playbook of Venables' defense to be too vast for some? 18:00 - Dillon Gabriel looked to be pressing and his passes looked high and too far on multiple occasions, so did a certain sect of fans going after him (unjustly vs Kstate, according to Brandon and Parker) cause him to have some added pressure that he put upon himself. Or, did the moment put pressure on him? Either way, that was rough to watch before he was cheapshot with the targeting hit. 23:30 - TCU followed Kstate blueprint vs OU with a lot of six man lines on offense ( leaving TE in). How can OU combat that moving forward, because if they don't, it's going to be a long year. And can playing the younger guys help in multiple facets? R Mason Thomas return make a difference? Gracen Haltom? Jaren Kanak? Robert Spear-Jennings good enough yet? Something has to give and soon! 34:00 - Recruiting aftermath with the losses? Does the 2023 class feel that BV will fix things when they arrive? Before? What have we heard so far? What about five-star QB Jackson Arnold? Four-star DE Colton Vasek? Others? 41:00 - Does the residual effect of previous defensive regime's cause the defense to have some PTSD type reaction when things start to go bad? Big play given up and then say, "here we go again." And then things just continue to avalanche? 46:00 - Brandon starts to name where all of the starters were ranked coming out of high school. It's impressive, but also very concerning that OU has this much trouble with this much talent, no matter who the DC is or who is running the defense. Mike Stoops. Alex Grinch. And last two games, Brent Venables. 51:00 - Off the cuff final record predictions from Brandon and Parker. They don't feel it's set in stone, but it's plausible. 55:00 - Final thoughts from Brandon and Parker. 1:03:29 - The podcast ends To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. One team shot themselves in the foot, and one didn't. Parker brings up KState OC Collin Klein. The former Wildcat QB beat OU in 2012. Brandon acknowledges that a similar game plan was used to beat the Sooners a decade ago in Norman. 16:00 - 3rd and 16.... Adrian Martinez... What happened? Parker explains. Anything yet? Brandon and Parker discuss that and ask why everyone thinks Nebraska is all of the sudden so bad when their last 13 losses were by single-digits? Why haven't other programs dominated them like OU did on Saturday? 8:30 - Did the Sooners response to 7-0 lead by Nebraska show anything? 10:00 - Defense is becoming quite good. How good can they be? In the opening take, Lee congratulates the OU fans for doing their part at Saturday's spring game. Then Grant joins to discuss everything surrounding Baker Mayfield's Heisman statue dedication (4:05). All the elements of the spring game involving the former players worked really well (22:10). Turning our attention to the game -- the weather wasn't all that bad, but it still may have had some impact on the passing game. We each give our thoughts on Dillon Gabriel's performance (30:10). Let's talk running backs. Jovantae Barnes and Tawee Walker dominated the carries (36:15). Grant's excited about OU's wide receivers (43:50). There's not much to take away from the offensive line (48:15). Marcus Stripling and Reggie Grimes stood out to Lee. The secondary played pretty well, and it was interesting to see freshman Jaren Kanak playing the Nickel/Sam role (51:50). Assessing the defensive line play and Lee got the feeling that DaShaun White and David Ugwoegbu looked more comfortable than ever. Will the defense tackle better now that Brent Venables is here? And Lee points out some creativity he saw from the defense (59:20). Back to the offense -- what did you think about the tempo? We provde ome final spring game thoughts (1:07:30). USC got a record crowd at its spring game as well. It was bizarre watching Riley on the field in USC gear and Caleb Williams playing QB for a different team (1:14:30). In the opening take, Lee explains why he hopes a decision about Caleb Williams' future comes soon. Then Grant joins to briefly talk about Grant's favorite NFL team the Indianapolis Colts. Since nobody cares about that, we move on to looking back at the OU-Oregon onside kick debacle. We've never talked in depth about this on the show. It's incredible looking back how bad this was (7:40). It's fascinating that the TV broadcast did not think to ask "who recovered the football"? Lee goes back and watches the onside kick and comments on the refs in real time. Grant provides more perspective on what was going through Sooners' fans minds back in 2006 (15:15). Replay review later missed another call that went against OU. Lee rips the officials 15 years later (25:30). What does it say about the Alamo Bowl that the Oregon stuff is the most interesting storyline (28:05)? What's the deal with Caleb Williams? Lee's heard that he still has not made up his mind (34:00). What would Caleb Williams try to accomplish if he transferred? Ohio State and Alabama wouldn't make sense. Sure, he could still go to USC. What about Georgia (37:30)? Grant thinks Williams has to be leaning in some direction at this point. Is Williams holding the team hostage (48:40)? Both OU and Oregon have multiples players out for the Alamo Bowl. We're both pretty comfortable with OU's roster, despite the opt outs and transfers. We're both interested to see how Brian Odom calls the defense and how Cale Gundy calls the offense (59:25). Lee thinks Oregon's interim head coach could be distracted. Meanwhile Bob Stoops is here to win a football game (1:08:30). We share our gut feelings about the Alamo Bowl result (1:16:00). It appears that Jaren Kanak is enrolled at OU. Plus we go over some other possible players who've been rumored to be OU targets (1:18:55). Finally, the guys spotted a WR out of Texas who has zero stars and zero D1 offers. And they don't get it at all. Please someone explain recruiting to us (1:26:05). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9
