In the opening take, Lee talks about something very serious that impacts everybody who listens to this show. Please listen to this critical message. Then Grant joins to talk about getting after it a little too much bending the elbow and how to combat a hangover (4:30). Grant gives his thoughts on the OU-Maine game. Jovantae Barnes and Xavier Robinson are discussed. Jackson Arnold's play and the defense as a whole (7:30). Will Jalil Farooq and/or Deion Burks play against Missouri? Grant's got the SEC Availability report hot off the press. Jovantae Barnes is questionable. The O-Line is back to being injured (20:15). What's the most intriguing storyline for OU-Missouri? Missouri may start a backup QB in the game, which should be a chance for OU's defense to have a good time. Are both fanbases not expecting their team to win (32:10)? Is it a problem that people are asking if this is the most important game for Brent Venables since he's been at OU (44:10)? The CFP Rankings are out. Let's assess the projected matchups (53:15). Looking at the SEC slate. If Florida's QB was healthy, it may be interesting vs. Texas. SC-Vandy is a tough handicap, and would Josh Heupel run it up on Jeff Lebby (59:00)? We make our picks coming off a good week for Grant. The games are Georgia-Ole Miss/ISU-Kansas/Michigan-Indiana/Colorado-Texas Tech/Alabama-LSU (1:05:30). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Oklahoma picked up its 5th win of the season beating Maine 59-14 Saturday. Definitely a tale of two halves in Oxford this weekend. OU went into halftime enjoying a 14-10 lead over one of the better teams in college football, but the Sooners came back down to earth in the final 30 minutes. What went right? What went wrong? Jovantae Barnes had his best game as a Sooner. Jackson Arnold played solid and does seem to have a lot of potential. This OU's best game running the ball this season. The offensive line can't pass block, but somehow they were able to run block pretty well. As always we read your "3-Word Reviews". | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Chase Robinson and Chris Lee predict the outcome of Tennessee's road trip to Oklahoma. Topics include: Tennessee's Nico Iamaleava leads what's been an unstoppable offensive machine that averages nearly 64 points per game. The Vols' Dylan Sampson has been one of the country's best running backs for a team that tries to run 59% of the time. - The Vols have innumerable targets like Squirrel White, Bru McCoy, Dont'e Thornton, Chris Brazzell II and others. But the Vols haven't seen a defense like Oklahoma's ball-hawking bunch. The Sooners feature first-team All-Americans Billy Bowman and Danny Stutsman as well as other talented players like Gracen Halton, Woodi Washington, Kendel Dolby and others. The Sooners' offense got a bit more on track last week thanks to dual-threat quarterback Jackson Arnold, who led the Sooners to victory over Tulane. Oklahoma's rushing attack hasn't been what we expected with Gavin Sawchuk, but Jovantae Barnes picked things up with a nice game vs. Tulane. Tennessee's defense allows just 4.3 points per game, and a front led by James Pearce Jr., Omar Norman-Lott, Omari Thomas, Keenan Pili and others. Watch the injuries for Oklahoma. The Sooners were without Dolby last week, and also have tons of injures on offense including WR Nic Anderson, WR Jaril Farooq (out), OL Geirean Hatchett (out), Branson Hickman (questionable) and others. Lee previews what is coming up on the show, followed by us thanking listeners for submitting new ratings/reviews for Apple and Spotify. Then the guys jump into the news that Jayden Gibson suffered a knee injury at practice. It does not sound good. What does this mean for the wide receiver room? Is it possible to replace what Gibson brings to OU's offense (6:20)? The Jovantae Barnes hype train continued into the second week of fall practice. We play some sound from Jackson Arnold and Barnes. We lay out the possible scenarios that could play out surrounding Barnes this season (23:40). We slide over to the OU defense. Lee plays some sound he liked from Gentry Williams. P.J. Adebawore looked bigger in some recent photos, but Grant wants him to gain even more weight (38:00). Kip Lewis is up to 225 and he's not sure which LB position he will play mostly this fall (49:30). OU will wear throwback uniforms Sept. 7 against Houston (51:25). We finish up with some random topics that include an OU bowl projection, the release of the Coaches poll, and Lee thinking Ohio State is boring (55:45). Grant talks briefly about the Olympics, much to Lee's chagrin. But then Lee gets excited talking about Caleb Williams playing in his preseason debut with the Bears (1:04:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

In the opening take, Lee is excited that it's the time of year to hear about how awesome OU will be in the upcoming season. Then Grant joins as we veer off into a discussion about Colin Cowherd and shows like "First Take" (4:00). Grant has started to talk himself into OU being one of the best teams in college football in 2024. But he's not a fan of other SEC teams being given the benefit of the doubt, while OU is not. We also have a broader conversation about OU entering the SEC and Lee warns that there's a chance we may learn that the Big 12 was actually a big benefit for the Sooners (9:20). Brent Venables provided an injury update on Andrel Anthony this week. Does this change Grant's mind about Anthony in 2024 (22:30)? Jalil Farooq seems to be fine as he recovers from his foot injury. And we learned Dasan McCullough has a minor toe injury (35:55). Jovantae Barnes is apparently looking good. We'll believe it when we see it (40:50). A little offensive line talk leads to talking about Tennessee being given the benefit of the doubt (58:00). Some takeaways from what Damonic Williams, Branson Hickman, and Peyton Bowen said this week (1:06:30). KFORD put out their weekly "watchability rankings" for the 2024 season and this is a pretty cool tool (1:19:15). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

We have quickly jumped into the true offseason of college football with the spring behind us. OU got some good news this past week with a couple of players committing out of the transfer portal at two positions of need (2:50). TCU's Damonic Williams still has not made his decision. Looks like there's a few other DT targets that OU could look at aside from Williams. Plus Grant thinks Lee's crazy for comparing Rondell Bothroyd's play last season to Reggie Grimes' play from 2022 (16:50). Jasiah Wagoner is off to Cal. Lee is surprised Jovantae Barnes is not in the portal (33:00). The guys defend Jaren Kanak and Lee struggles to find the Deion Burks TD pass that was the catalyst for all the recent criticism (38:40). Three OU players were selected in the NFL Draft. We also take a look at potential OU draft picks for 2025 (46:30). Caleb Williams is the No. 1 pick to the Bears. The Bears have never had a good QB, so Lee is excited for what could be with Williams. Skip this part if you don't care about how the Bears are set up for the Caleb Williams era. Also Grant loves Brock Bowers (55:25). Caleb Williams recently talked about competing with Spencer Rattler in 2021 and how he thought he was the better player, but did not win the job (1:06:15). For the first time (we think) we hear Caleb's account of the time he took the ball from Kennedy Brooks on 4th down against Kansas in 2021 (1:20:00). Spencer Rattler is a 5th Round pick to the Saints. Grant's been watching old OU games, specifically from the 2008 season (1:32:45). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Grant was bored by the spring game while Lee explains why the spring game was pretty interesting to him (1:25). We get into the breakdown beginning with Jackson Arnold and his play (8:30). Lee wants to talk about Michael Hawkins because there was a spring narrative about him looking really good, yet we didn't see much evidence of that in the spring game (23:15). The offensive line with Jackson Arnold played really well. Overall we're encouraged by what we saw from the OL (25:35). Deion Burks was terrific, but no other pass catchers really stood out (33:20). Sawchuk, Hicks, and Franklin all looked good at running back. The room looks to be in better shape than last season. Have we seen the last of Jovantae Barnes in an OU uniform (43:30)? We switch over to the defense and begin with the defensive line. Lee liked a good amount of what he saw, while Grant is very skeptical of the interior part of the line. Can the Sooners pick up some of these big D-linemen in the portal (56:45)? Not much to say about the linebackers aside from Kobie McKinzie looked good. Grant is still high on Jaren Kanak. Was he at fault for the second Burks TD? Lee could not figure out what coverage OU was in on the two long TDs (1:08:00). Thoughts on the OU secondary. Lee thinks Dez Malone may be a starter at corner. Grant liked what he saw from RSJ, but overall the secondary was slightly disappointing (1:13:50). We read your "3 Word Reviews" from the WoE Facebook page (1:19:10). Final thoughts on who stood out on offense. Grant wants RPOs to be eliminated (1:23:15). Final thoughts on defensive standouts (1:29:50). The kicking game will continue to be a massive question mark. Are you interested in the Miami (OH) kicker in the portal? Plus we go over other final disappointing thoughts from the scrimmage (1:31:50). Shane Whitter and Justin Harrington recently entered the transfer portal (1:39:40). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
The guys open the show talking about OU's season opener vs. Temple being moved up to Friday, August 30. We also go over some of the other matchups on Labor Day weekend, as well as even more premiere matchups in Week 2 (1:10). Jumping into the Spring Game preview. We're still waiting on a format for the game. Lee wants Jackson Arnold to look really good, but Grant reminds people that sometimes the starting QB doesn't look good in this game. We also talk about the possibility of Arnold throwing a bunch of picks this upcoming season (19:15). We'll be watching for Jovantae Barnes, Kalib Hicks, and Sam Franklin this Saturday. Lee reads into some comments about Franklin (32:00). Grant says Bill Bedenbaugh is tinkering on the offensive line right now. Lee doesn't trust many people's takes on offensive line play in general. Who knows what we will learn from the Spring Game (36:00)? Which WRs will be available for the Spring Game? Everybody will be wanting to see Deion Burks. Bauer Sharp sounds like he is the starting TE. Jake Roberts' brother just committed to Ohio State. Lee has a glass hall full theory about why that happened (45:30). We flip over to the defense and begin with the interior of the defensive line (56:10). Lee wants to talk about P.J. Adebawore's weight and his diet moving forward. Would be cool if R Mason Thomas can stay healthy (59:45). We don't have much on the LBs or the secondary players. We know a lot already about both position groups (1:05:40). Which players do we *not want to see enter the transfer portal* after the Spring Game? Who do we expect to enter the portal (1:09:00)? A listener wants to know the last time OU's offensive line consisted of more high school recruits than transfer players? This leads to more general talk about the offensive line (1:24:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Brent Venables opened up practice for quite a long time to the media this week. Plus many players conducted interviews, including Jovantae Barnes. We begin the show by jumping into Barnes and what the heck is going on with his foot and his potential availability for the 2024 season. Lee goes through the timeline of his foot injury dating back to last spring and we try to figure out if he's ever going to be healthy--or maybe Barnes just simply isn't very good (3:00). Grant points out that the two players atop the RB depth chart are injury prone, so potentially all RBs have a chance to get some run this year. We relitigate the final quarter of the Kansas game and ask why Barnes was in the game and not Gavin Sawchuk? We also continue to question DeMarco Murray's management of that room (17:20). We move over to Jackson Arnold and what he's working on this spring. Is he really off of social media? Grant is expecting a big season from Arnold, but Lee can't help but think of the worst case scenario. What if Jackson Arnold plays as well as Spencer Rattler played in his RS-Freshman year? Would we take that (30:15)? I think we continue to get evidence the TE room is much better than it was a season ago. Thoughts on Davon Mitchell and Kaden Helms (40:45). David Stone and Jayden Jackson are making really good first impressions (47:40). I think we learned a lot from Dasan McCullough's availability this week. Grant's afraid he does not have a true position anymore, while Lee is hoping that maybe Will LB is a spot that can allow McCullough to contribute and make plays (53:40). Woodi Washington is repping at basically every secondary position. Lee's not sure this is a good thing for Woodi. Grant wants to remind everybody that while OU's secondary looks to have a lot of depth, the pass defense was still bad in 2023 (1:00:30). All we're getting is good vibes from Zac Alley and it sounds like he's simplifying the defene for everybody. Does that sound too much like Alex Grinch's Speed D (1:12:00)? Thoughts on Justin Harrington and his recovery from injury. Grant wants to make sure he brings up Deion Burks and the rave reviews he's been getting. Plus there were reports that Troy Everett suffered some sort of an injury this week (1:17:00). Lastly, Lee doesn't care at all to hear about Casey Thompson right now. Grant defends Casey (1:24:50). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Oklahoma Football held a practice open to the media. Among the takeaways, Jaden Gibson, Deion Burks and Jalil Farooq work with the 1's at WR. Jovantae Barnes dishes on why he didn't play in 2023. In the opening take, Grant piles on to this OU team as we're still reeling from the Sooners recent loss to Kansas. Grant says this is the biggest game in Brent Venables' short tenure, while Lee has his sights set on Dillon Gabriel and his left arm (6:05). Lee thinks OU's offense should be better vs. OSU based on OSU's defensive scheme (10:50). Does OU's coaching staff understand the moment? Lee thinks Alan Bowman is playing his best football of his career (13:00). OU's defense is banged up. We both don't expect to see much from Danny Stutsman this week (19:00). Lee says OU's offense should have plenty of opportunities to gain a lot of yards against OSU's secondary (22:30). Grant brings up Gabe Ikard and Teddy Lehman being ultra critical of OU on one of their recent podcasts. We talk about the running game and the OL (25:00). Tawee Walker's injured. Will he play? Grant rants about Jovantae Barnes getting carries late vs. Kansas (31:00). Then Lee rants about OU's personnel on what was the final snap vs. Kansas. Get some tall guys out there (35:40)! OSU's got some good receivers and their RB is better than OU's running backs (39:00). Let's defend Tawee Walker and ask again why he hasnt played more (42:10). Collin Oliver stands out for OSU. The LBs are okay, and Lee reiterates that he thinks the DBs are not good. Grant's more confident in OU's defense and you never want to be a coach who loses a game where you had a high win exptectancy (44:30). We go around the Big 12 and give our thoughts on the weekend slate (53:30). We make our weekly picks. Games include K-State-Texas/Missouri-Georgia/Kansas-Iowa State/Washington-USC/LSU-Alabama (1:02:40). Grant loves the Michigan sign stealing story. Lee doesn't really care (1:15:00). Lee is interested in the Iowa-Minnesota "invalid fair catch" story, so for some reason they finish the show talking about Iowa (1:19:10). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
In the opening take, Lee talks about a recent social media post that caught his eye. Then Grant joins as they begin the show discussing the curious situation surrounding UCF QB John Rhys Plumlee (5:00). We get to what's a mostly positive OU injury update, will we see Jovantae Barnes again this season, and OU's gotta replace McKade Mettauer this weekend (17:00). We haven't gotten a chance yet to talk about Andrel Anthony being out for the year. Who's going to step up (28:00)? UCF's defense isn't good, especially it's run defense. Will the Sooners be able to run the ball much better Saturday (34:40)? How's UCF's backup QB? UCF's skill position players are super talented (37:45). Grant says this is a very interesting spot for UCF given how their season has gone, and could play out. That being said, we will learn a ton about OU this Saturday (43:40). Grant is in a good mood and loves how this season has played out almost perfectly for the Sooners (54:30). We take a look at the Big 12 slate this week beginning with Baylor-Cincinnati. The guys think this is a good spot for WVU against OSU. What will we learn about Texas playing at Houston? Lee likes BYU's spot hosting Texas Tech. What do we make of TCU-K-State (1:04:20)? We make our weekly picks beginning with both guys really liking Ohio State as it hosts Penn State. Plus we both aren't fans of James Franklin (1:11:10). The guys talk about this weird, limited Alabama offense and aren't sure the Crimson Tide can cover 9 against Tennessee (1:21:00). Lee hates Iowa football so much. Grant brings up an interesting point about Iowa's bad offense paired with it's great defense (1:24:30). We have our first crossfire as the guys discuss Duke-FSU. Plus some wishcasting about how the rest of the 2023 season could play out. And Grant rants about video quality that may or may not be our worst segment ever (1:30:40). Finally, the guys talk about USC as they pick the Utah-USC game. The ingredients are there for USC to absolutley crater to finish out the season (1:41:10). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
In the opening take, Lee goes to the WoE Facebook page and highlights a listener who's happy about what he's seen from the Sooners' defense so far. Then Grant joins the show as we give our thoughts on the Art Briles/Jeff Lebby situation (5:10). What's the injury situation surrounding Dasan McCullough and Justin Harrington? Who plays Cheetah if those guys are unable to play? Gentry Williams is available this week. Lee shares some impressive 3rd down defense stats (9:25). Tulsa's offense has been operating without its starting QB. This is a game where OU's defense can have some fun. Will they (21:50)? Jeff Lebby says they want to get Jovantae Barnes and Gavin Sawchuk going this week. We got an answer as to why Jaquaize Pettaway didn't do anything against SMU. Marcus Major is what he is. Does Jeff Lebby know what he wants this OU offense to be (25:30)? Is there any reason to be concerned with OU's offensive line? We read a listener comment about J. Barnes vs. M. Major, and one listener tells us he's going to the Cincinnati game (36:30). We look around the Big 12. Grant thinks Cincinnati may be good. Can BYU score against Arkansas? Lee got a bad number in the Texas-Wyoming game, Houston may be the worst team in the Big 12, and could Kansas be one of the best teams in the Big 12 by season end (45:45)? We each went 3-2 last week making picks. This week's slate includes Penn State-Illinois/K-State-Missouri/Minnesota-UNC/Washington-Michigan St./Tennessee-Florida (56:20). |Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

The guys are back at the mics to discuss OU's close Cheez-It Bowl loss to Florida State. They open the show by briefly discussing the road-like atmosphere for the Sooners in Orlando, while praising the bowl game for making a second-tier bowl feel pretty important (:40). OU should have won despite being 10-point underdogs. The game sure seemed to play out similar to a lot of other OU losses this season. Grant liked the way OU's offensive line played despite missing multiple starters (3:05). Let's talk about the game, beginning with C.J. Coldon's missed opportunity on the game's first series (12:00). Dillon Gabriel was terrific on OU's first offensive series that gave the Sooners an early 7-3 lead (14:30). Kudos to the OU defensive line stopping FSU on 3rd-1 and 4th-1 in the 1st Quarter. Grant says Jeffery Johnson had maybe his best game of the season. The defense played well for the majority of the game, even though FSU WR Johnny Wilson torched the Sooners (18:40). The guys were impressed with FSU QB Jordan Travis. Why didn't they run him more (23:40)? Danny Stutsman looked really good and fast when he chased down Travis for a sack (26:05). Back to discussing the game. OU's offense took a 14-3 after DG scored on a clever zone read design (28:20). We jump ahead to Marvin Mims' first awesome sideline catch, which was followed up by a Gavin Sawchuck TD run called back due to penalty. This was a huge sequence in the game (30:50). Grant's number 1 takeaway from the Cheez-It Bowl is that Sawchuck is a star in the making. Where has he been all year? Lee's not as high on Jovantae Barnes as everybody else (33:45)? Brent Venables told his team to not "play to the scoreboard" against FSU. Lee can't imagine saying that to a team as a coach, while Grant doesn't think it's a big deal (41:50). Grant says the difference in the bowl game was the Sawchuck fumble and the Savion Byrd holding penalty. Grant is ultimately encouraged by what he saw from OU vs. FSU (44:40). Lee's got more criticism for Venables. It was unacceptable to call timeout on defense in the 2nd half of a one-score game. OU cost itself :22 seconds at the end of the game. Poor game management yet again (46:45). Grant reminds us that the current coaching staff looks to be elite at recruiting and Grant doeesn't think people who thought OU would get blown out should be able to criticize Venables today (50:25). Lee lays out the two (maybe three) different types of OU fans that exist right now. Plus more Gavin Sawchuck and Jovantae Barnes talk (54:00). We cover a bunch extra Cheez-It Bowl topics and beyond as we check in on your "3-Word Reviews" from the WoE Facebook page and Twitter (59:20). One listener reminds us that Texas still sucks. Lee gives a brief update on what to expect from the show coming up in the offseason. Grant brings up Trace Ford transferring to OU (1:27:30). We wrap things up by talking about who we think will win the National Championship (1:32:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9
Lee opens the show by taking an unwarranted shot at Grant to cover up for his lack of show prep. They then dive into Billy Bowman's health and the amount of snaps he played vs. Iowa State. Lee thinks he'll be back starting and playing a bunch this week against Baylor (1:30). Jovantae Barnes is a game time decision this week. Eric Gray will once again be super important this week and it appears we have discovered that UCF transfer RB Bentavious Thompson is a non-factor on this team (10:05). Lee was really hard on Woodi Washington last episode. Well, Lee was wrong to be so critical and Grant was right (18:00). C.J. Coldon is still not playing very many snaps. Freshman Gentry Williams looked good in very limited playing time vs. ISU. It also seems like they've tightened up the DB rotations, and what happened to Justin Harrington and Kani Walker (24:05)? OU's a short favorite against Baylor, but the Bears may be a lot better than their record indicates. Lee likes what he's seen from Blake Shapen, even though he didn't want to like him. Grant says Shapen has been up & down this year. OU may be able to make some plays with special teams this Saturday (31:40). Jeff Grimes is a really good OC, but Baylor does have tendencies on offense that OU could possibly recognize and anticipate certain plays and pass routes. Grant says Alex Grinch's system was horrible against Grimes' system (42:20). Lee thinks the OU offense has an opportunity to steal some yards against Baylor. Grant wants the Sooners' offense to throw it around the yard on Baylor's secondary (49:05). Does anybody care about the first CFP rankings (58:20)? We take a look at the Big 12 slate, which includes an intriguing OSU-Kansas matchup from a betting perspective. And are oddsmakers telling us to hammer Iowa State against WVU? Grant shares a betting story about his time in the free state of Iowa last weekend (1:03:05)? We make our weekly picks. Games include Oregon St.-Washington/Tennessee-Georgia/Texas-Kansas St./Clemson-Notre Dame/Wake Forest-NC State (1:14:00). Dave Aranda has bounced back from a bad first year at Baylor. Does that give you hope for the future in case OU struggles the rest of the season (1:26:35)? | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9

Post-Game Podcast: Sooners beat 19th-ranked Jayhawks after Dillon Gabriel's return| Can the defense get back to early season success?| Offense was DOMINANT| Big recruiting visit weekend| Could OU lose a commit soon? 00:00 - Podcast intro 02:00 - Sooners QB Dillon Gabriel is BACK and he made his presence KNOWN with a HUGE day after missing the last 1.5 games! Brandon and Parker talk about how his return might prove he is the most valuable player in college football TO HIS TEAM! His return helped OU put 701-yards on a good defense and the 19th-ranked team in the nation. 10:00 - The defense showed improvement but has so, so much still left to improve upon. Still, big plays were made by CJ Coldon, Dashaun White, and a few others today. How much does getting DG back help the Sooners' defense? We know DG is an offensive guy, but his presence means so much to both sides of the ball. Also, the duo talks about how to take small victories in things after the last three weeks' performances on defense and names young players like Robert Spears-Jennings and R Mason Thomas making a case to be bigger roles. 17:30 - Sooners' offensive line has been good and physical in the OU run game, and Eric Gray and Jovantae Barnes have had some big-time success because of Andrew Raym, Anton Harrison, Wanya Morris, Chris Murray, and McKade Mettauer have been really good on the line of scrimmage. Texas knew all OU could do was run the ball, and still, in the wildcat, the Sooners were moving the ball on Texas some due to OL's physicality. With Gabriel back, it helped even more with the threat of the pass and the fact OU's offensive line has started to "mesh," according to Anton Harrison. Talk a bit about what next year's OL could look like, too. 31:00 - Defensive line has to continue to improve and get WAY better. R Mason Thomas was flashing and causing some problems for KU QB Jason Bean, but there was a lack of QB contain at times and no pass rush from others on the DL to give Bean all day at times. Can't have that and be successful on defense. Others that played well at times were Jalen Redmond, Marcus Stripling, and a few others. 35:00 - How did Brandon and Parker feel the linebackers and defensive backs play? Who and where could there be an improvement? Key Lawrence play adequate? Shuffling of personnel help some? No pass rush hinders the DB's and Brandon and Parker discuss that. 43:00 - Players and Brent Venables talked about resting the players more this past week. How much did that help both physically and mentally on the field today and improve things in the end? They talk about BV quotes on that from post-game presser and dive into how that balance of resting and preparing can co-exist! 49:00 - Brandon and Parker give grades to all positions and overall team grades after the Sooners' 52-42 win over 19th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. 1:00:00 - Big recruiting weekend with official visitors like four-star EDGE/DE Tausili Akana, four-star DL Kayden McDonald, and four-star DL commit Derrick Leblanc. Also, unofficial visitors like five-star QB commit Jackson Arnold with four-star LSU DB commit Ryan Yaites on campus Saturday. Also, they touch on 2023 four-star DE commit Colton Vasek visiting Texas. 1:14:40 - Podcast ends To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. When will the embarrassment stop for Sooners after Texas STOMPS Oklahoma 49-0|Can it be fixed in 2022 season?| Three things that need fixed for OU to win| Recruiting fallout?| MORE Topic Timestamps: 00:00 - Podcast intro before Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune go scorched earth on the Sooners' play vs Texas and where this program is right now! 04:00 - How much worse can it get? Has Brent Venables' team quit already because Parker says it seems to be that way from the field view? No excuses, even without two main key players like Dillon Gabriel and Billy Bowman out. The program had so many bad "first times" in Texas's beating of Oklahoma. 09:00 - Talent (excluding backup QB, as we have seen with Davis Beville) is there, but is this a personnel problem? Is the Sooners' staff not playing the right guys in the right spots? Can this team gain the confidence to make a run? They looked dejected at the post-game podium. What's the issue with this team's football IQ? Examples of ineptness are talked about. 15:50 - Offense... W.T.F? WildWillie (Brayden Willis) and GrayCat (Eric Gray) worked so well between the '20s (20-yard line to 20-yard line), so why get away from it when you're in the red zone? And you lost all newness after halftime to surprise Texas, so why not have a wrinkle or two that isn't a STUPID jump pass? Why go back to Davis Beville? What can OU do offensively when Gabriel comes back? Brandon and Parker discuss how they need to feature Jalil Farooq, Brayden Willis, and Marvin Mims at ALL times they aren't running Gray, Marcus Major, or Jovantae Barnes. Get them out and space, and let those guys go to work! 26:00 - Is this team worn out? Venables talks about it, and Brandon cites a well-placed source that said similar to him last week and went into detail on that. 28:30 - Brandon and Parker name three things on the offense and defense that need fixed NOW for Oklahoma to start getting back on track, if that is possible at all! Names like Jaren Kanak, Gentry Williams, Woodi Washington staying at safety, Kani Walker, CJ Coldon, four-man fronts, or being multiple IF YOU'RE GOING TO CLAIM BEING MULTIPLE! Also, finding a different backup QB like Nick Evers, General Booty? Micah Bowens? 40:00 - Are there some older guys still not buying in or giving their all for this squad? Brandon and Parker discuss. 45:00 - What is this team's identity? Do they have one? How do they get one in mid-season if they don't have one already? And how much of this is personnel on defense and the fact the players were recruited for a different type of defense? Players are talented but look nothing like the players BV had at Clemson. 51:00 - Recruiting fallout? Is there one? Brandon and Parker talk over/under on two decommits. Answer may shock some and may shock others, but they break it down. The Colton Vasek rumors discussed. 56:40 - Will there be a change in how things are done? Could OU change some things up on the defensive side? Will BV take over full control of the defense? If there is a "fall guy," who will that be? 1:06:24 - Podcast over To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. In the opening take, Lee congratulates the OU fans for doing their part at Saturday's spring game. Then Grant joins to discuss everything surrounding Baker Mayfield's Heisman statue dedication (4:05). All the elements of the spring game involving the former players worked really well (22:10). Turning our attention to the game -- the weather wasn't all that bad, but it still may have had some impact on the passing game. We each give our thoughts on Dillon Gabriel's performance (30:10). Let's talk running backs. Jovantae Barnes and Tawee Walker dominated the carries (36:15). Grant's excited about OU's wide receivers (43:50). There's not much to take away from the offensive line (48:15). Marcus Stripling and Reggie Grimes stood out to Lee. The secondary played pretty well, and it was interesting to see freshman Jaren Kanak playing the Nickel/Sam role (51:50). Assessing the defensive line play and Lee got the feeling that DaShaun White and David Ugwoegbu looked more comfortable than ever. Will the defense tackle better now that Brent Venables is here? And Lee points out some creativity he saw from the defense (59:20). Back to the offense -- what did you think about the tempo? We provde ome final spring game thoughts (1:07:30). USC got a record crowd at its spring game as well. It was bizarre watching Riley on the field in USC gear and Caleb Williams playing QB for a different team (1:14:30). No opening take. We begin the show by hearing from Bill Bedenbaugh and Lee tells you why he doesn't buy into PFF College very much anymore (1:30). It sounds like Andrew Raym will not be playing in the spring game. What, if anything, will we be watching for Saturday when it comes to the O-Line (6:55)? The weather forecast is not ideal for Saturday which could ruin everything (12:25). Grant really wants to see Dillon Gabriel throw it around Saturday. Lee is curious to see Theo Wease and and Jovantae Barnes in action (18:10). Grant's waiting to see all the freshmen pass catchers and is intrigued by the backup QBs (21:50). On defense, we'll be taking a long look at cornerback Kani Walker. What position will Clatyon Smith play? What about Marcus Stripling? Shane Whitter shed some light on the "Cheetah" position on defense and Grant has one last defensive player on his mind (24:05). Lee plays a soundbite from Brent Venables that sounded like he was talking directly to Grant (31:05). Grant explains why Baker Mayfield is arguably the most important player in the history of the OU football program (37:00). Lee's love of Baker has cooled in the past couple of years. Some of Mayfield's recent comments on that podcast were not ideal given what we know about Mayfield's background (45:30). Grant's convinced Mayfield's chance to be one of the top QBs in the NFL is over. The Browns are taking a risk by bringing in Watson -- what if karma is on Mayfield's side (51:10)? Finally we talk about Lincoln Riley's open letter (1:00:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9
