Today's episode we talk about two men who chose death by committing suicide over being accused and possibly charged for multiple murders. The first case involves Joe Ball. A veteran of WWI who became a bootlegger during the Prohibition. After the act was ratified, he opened a saloon in Texas and brought in six alligators to draw in more patrons. Soon his barmaids began disappearing and suspicions rose when the authorities finally had solid evidence, he committed suicide. The second case involves Dallen Bounds, a 28-year-old born in Ashland, Oregon. He eventually moved to South Carolina. In 1999, he murdered at least four people. Two days before Christmas, murdered two people and his actions launched an extensive manhunt. While the authorities were searching for him, he broke into the house of an elderly woman, taking her and her adult daughter hostage for several hours. When the authorities were closing in on him, he committed suicide. Did these two men kill themselves to avoid being charged? Did they regret what they had done and couldn't live with themselves any longer? Listen in as we discuss this and more. Hey friends! We are back this week with a brief review over the 1978 horror/slasher film "Eaten Alive" and the story that inspired the movie. The story of Joseph Douglas Ball. Joe Ball is believed to be an American serial killer who killed between 3 and 14+ women in the 1930's in Elmendorf, Bexen County, Texas. He was also known as the Butcher of Elmendorf or the Alligator Man or Bluebeard of South Texas. We say believed, and we will let you decide for yourself at the end of this episode. Be sure to pair this episode with the cocktail the "Spicy Alligator" which you can find on our Instagram @CrimesandCocktails or our Patreon. Greetings, dear listeners. We have got an interesting bit of scumnuttery for you today. Joe Ball's life didn't quite go in the direction I expected, but The Alligator Man certainly made a name for himself. And once again, we are confronted by police incompetence. Boy, what a fun trend to notice. Also, this episode has my new favorite phrase ever in it. Just ignore all the horrific bits of history attached to it, and it's a lot of fun. Enjoy!
