Remember Jake the Alligator Man? Turns out his bizarre backstory might be tangled up with one of San Francisco's most mysterious landmarks — The Cliff House. In this episode, we dig into the cursed history of this seaside icon: from explosive shipwrecks and devastating fires to ghostly apparitions, secret tunnels, and maybe even a mummy curse (?!).We'll explore how The Cliff House rose, burned, rose again (multiple times) and how the Land's End area had everything from seedy roadhouses to Victorian castles, extravagant bathhouses, amusement parks, taxidermied sea lions, forgotten cemeteries, and yes — Egyptian artifacts. We dive into the tale of Adolph Sutro, his cliffside empire, the ruins of Sutro Baths, and the eerie hauntings that still chill this foggy coastline. Is the area cursed by misplaced relics? Haunted by forgotten souls? Or just steeped in really bad luck? If you love lost history, ghost stories, and a healthy dose of weird… this one's for you.Visit our website! Hey friends! We are back this week with a brief review over the 1978 horror/slasher film "Eaten Alive" and the story that inspired the movie. The story of Joseph Douglas Ball. Joe Ball is believed to be an American serial killer who killed between 3 and 14+ women in the 1930's in Elmendorf, Bexen County, Texas. He was also known as the Butcher of Elmendorf or the Alligator Man or Bluebeard of South Texas. We say believed, and we will let you decide for yourself at the end of this episode. Be sure to pair this episode with the cocktail the "Spicy Alligator" which you can find on our Instagram @CrimesandCocktails or our Patreon. Greetings, dear listeners. We have got an interesting bit of scumnuttery for you today. Joe Ball's life didn't quite go in the direction I expected, but The Alligator Man certainly made a name for himself. And once again, we are confronted by police incompetence. Boy, what a fun trend to notice. Also, this episode has my new favorite phrase ever in it. Just ignore all the horrific bits of history attached to it, and it's a lot of fun. Enjoy!

In the 1930s, Joe Ball was the owner of a tavern called the Sociable Inn located on Highway 181 near Elmendorf, Texas. The tavern was always busy – business was boomin' – but Joe had a problem… He had a hard time keeping waitresses employed because they all seemed to find work elsewhere and disappear into the night. He had another problem – neighbours were complaining about the smell coming from his gator pit. That's right. While the Sociable Inn was known for many things, like its fine brewskis and even finer waitresses, its most memorable feature was the alligator pit behind the tavern. Join us as we discuss "The Alligator Man", Joe Ball, and the wild case that surrounds him, his tavern, and of course, his gators.
Fading SunsFading Suns on The Gauntlet. Lowell Francis trying out the system, and you can tell he's down his prep. I'm playing an Ur-Ukar witch with TK-like abilities. We've taken up a mission from a noble to be his escort and eyes and ears in a hostile system. Fading Suns has pulled at me for some years now; I'm hoping to jump-start my future runs of it by playing it first. At its core, it is a Skill + ability roll under system. This was our session one, and we got a small, easy skirmish under our belt so far.Into the OddIn Dragonslayers, using Into the Odd, I play a reluctant tailor pressed into military service against the dragon empire. The dragons have won, and we're left in the aftermath of many battles. This was mostly session zero, making characters and setting up things. Our first act next session is to free our captured griffin riders and griffins!!Judd also runs games out on StartPlaying.games, and I paid to play his Spelljammer + Into the odd game: Rock of Braal. (I'll have more to say very soon about paying to play and GM-for-hire) I played a warden, one of two survivors off a gith vessel. The other was an Illithid captive. We both took on a bounty from a ghost pirate to recover his stolen goods. Into the Odd is a great system for getting folks in fast and keeping them hooked through the session. I forget I much I LOVE combat mechanics where there is a free & clear declaration step, followed by the dice then reading the outcomes!Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes - Session 01Centered in the apocalypse of Florida, I play an ex-Imagineer, (ex-jackboot in Outlaw parlance) trying to escape my former employer. With the help of an Abe Lincoln animatronic, an Alligator-Man hybrid, and a gothic biker with electricity powers. We flee into the swamp -bogs of Florida chased by Imagineer security on hoverboards!Big thanks to Michael Addison of Nerdy Pup Games for running his new game on Actual Play!Champions Now - Lifted. The KC Defenders get stomped by Protheseus agents during a simple recon of the downtown train yard. The rail house was, in fact, not abandoned or empty.
