"I mean, I didn't mean for 15 years to go by, but a lot of things in life came up in the last 15 years. But I did know it was definitely a thought in the forefront of my mind that when it was time to make this record, it couldn't be a sleeper. It needed to be... it needed to get people's attention."We ask Mike to dive deeper into the musicality on Born To Kill and what he was going for this time around."With every record you want to try and reinvent yourself," he replied, pausing to reflect. "But for me it was as simple as just going back to the late 70s and the music I was listening to, just to inspire me. Admiralty Head Lighthouse here on Whidbey Island served as a critical navigational guide back in the day of sailing ships traveling from the Pacific Ocean through the treacherous Strait of San Juan de Fuca. Sixteen miles from Admiralty Inlet ship captains could see the white light in the darkness warning them to steer a hard right to starboard, avoid the cliffs, and continue safely south through Puget Sound and on to Seattle. How did the captain know he was seeing Admiralty Head Lighthouse? Each lighthouse - no matter where in the world - has its very own distinctive light pattern, or signature, like an address on a house. Lighthouses mark points of navigation, warn about dangerous coastlines, and guide ships into safe harbor. But harbors are not created equal. Different harbors for different boats. A lighthouse stationed at a harbor entrance doesn't run up and down the coast beckoning all boats to its harbor. It serves a particular sized boat. Lighthouses don't chase boats; why do you chase clients? Question: What is it only you have to offer? Who needs and wants it? Who is meant to be drawn to your harbor? Identities like the fixer, caretaker, achiever, victim, or “spiritual one” are costumes built for safety, and their unraveling can feel like joy or friction (loss, endings, illness, financial shifts). Either way, nothing real is being taken—you're being relieved of what's heavy. I ask White Light a question about the concept of PAFA, (presence, awareness, focus and attention) they describe it as simply allowing: staying in the moment, welcoming what comes next, and finding power in the tiny space between what happens and how we respond. They say that this state is inseparable from nervous-system coherence—calm, stillness, breath, and trust—because resistance creates friction in every connection, including the connection to your inner self.

I talked about this a few months back. Researchers in North Carolina are looking at changing the traffic lights we encounter every day. For as long as I've been driving, the overwhelming majority of traffic signals have had red, yellow, and green lights. But these researchers are working on adding a fourth light to the mix, a white light. No reason for this extra light is to trigger autonomous vehicles. I always thought my routine made me productive, but it turns out, it's quite limiting. About two years ago, White Light asked me to break up my routine and I did. This led to a big shift in my perspective. We also did a Dead Talk right after for our Unimaginable Life podcast and they also talked about how a routine becomes blinding.
