Are you ready to separate small-sample noise from actual long-horizon dynasty value? We are cutting through the hype to break down the crucial contender-versus-rebuilder forks that will define your season across Fantrax, Sleeper, and NFBC leagues. We dive deep into the underlying metrics of major market movers, debated players, and rising pipeline talent. As we noted during the show regarding the current landscape: "Unless the return is so overwhelming that you don't have to quote-unquote 'ask the experts,' just keep Judge. It ain't that complicated."The Kyle Tucker Reality Check: Despite landing a massive $240M contract with the Dodgers, his xwOBA is stuck in the 64th percentile. Are they getting their money's worth, or should dynasty managers view this as a mundane plateau? The Justin Wrobleski "Ocean's 11" Warning: Do not get fooled by an ERA starting with a two and a handful of wins on a powerhouse Dodgers team. His horrific 4.85 xFIP and a baseline 4.8 K/9 are a major red flag. Our advice? Run and hide. Move him now before the floor drops. The Colt Emerson Shiny New Toy Trap: Don't get blinded by a 20-year-old reaching the big leagues. His production mirrors Cole Young and J.P. Crawford—elite for real-life Seattle defense, but a fantasy profile that fields better than it hits.Gavin Sheets is on a Heater: He's crushing the ball with 7 homers over three weeks for San Diego, but his underlying bat speed and EV metrics are identical to his last five seasons. Enjoy the run, but do not chase it as a long-term investment asset.Kyle Tucker & Aaron Judge: Roster building windows and why you shouldn't Galaxy Brain yourself into trading away cornerstone bats for pennies on the dollar.Eury Pérez: Why his 117 Stuff+ on a newly adopted 2-seamer sinker makes him an elite buy-low target for rebuilders despite ugly surface numbers.Michael Soroka & Ryne Nelson: How to leverage their dominant May stats to acquire cheap, highly productive depth for a championship run.Mason Miller: The absolute necessity of trading away volatile elite closers if your roster is in a full rebuild window. The Long Game Prospect Stashes: Deep-dive evaluations on under-the-radar targets breaking the models, including Kane Kepley (Cubs), Yasser Mercedes (Twins), Nick Becker (Mariners), and Nolan Perry (Blue Jays). Griffin Warner talks betting for Thursday. Griffin Warner returns for Episode 33 of What I Bet with a full Thursday betting card breakdown across Major League Baseball and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The show opens with a quick look back at a winning Chicago Cubs underdog pick before moving into a busy MLB slate led by Detroit at Atlanta, where Framber Valdez as a plus money underdog against Bryce Elder immediately catches Griffin's attention. The Braves have been dangerous offensively, with Ronald Acuña Jr. heating up and the bullpen holding together better than expected after Raisel Iglesias went on the injured list, but Detroit's matchup still creates value because Griffin likes backing Framber Valdez in underdog roles. From there, the card shifts to St. Louis at Pittsburgh, where Hunter Dobbins faces Paul Skenes and the under becomes the main question if Dobbins can do enough to support the low total. Houston at Baltimore brings Peter Lambert against Chris Bassitt, and Griffin points to Bassitt's struggles, Houston's strong hitting, and the Astros' pitching problems as reasons over nine could be live. Colorado at Cincinnati gives Andrew Abbott another important test against the Rockies, with Griffin noting that Cincinnati has not yet played in the kind of heat that can punish a fly ball pitcher. Washington at the New York Mets becomes a run line discussion, as Griffin is not eager to lay a big price with the Mets and instead finds Washington plus one and a half runs more interesting with Miles Mikolas facing Freddy Peralta. The strongest MLB position comes in Arizona at Milwaukee, where Michael Soroka faces Brandon Woodruff. Griffin likes the Brewers at minus 120, pointing to Woodruff's improved control, Soroka's durability concerns, and Arizona's early body clock spot. Kansas City against the Athletics in Sacramento brings interest in both the Royals and under nine and a half, with Griffin pushing back on the idea that the park should already be priced like peak summer conditions. Toronto at Minnesota closes the baseball portion, with Kevin Gausman against Bailey Ober and the under drawing some attention despite concerns about Minnesota's bullpen. The NHL playoff section begins with Dallas at Minnesota, where Griffin has a live viewing perspective after attending multiple games in the Stars and Wild series. He believes Minnesota has looked like the better team overall and is more drawn to the total than the Dallas side. Edmonton at Anaheim closes the betting breakdown, with the Oilers trying to stay alive and the Ducks holding a 3 to 2 series lead. Griffin expects strong Edmonton fan support in Anaheim, questions whether Connor McDavid is fully healthy, and says Anaheim plus money is tempting after a competitive series. The episode finishes with a Pregame promo code and the official What I Bet best bet, Milwaukee Brewers minus 120 behind Brandon Woodruff. Learn more about your ad choices. Michael Soroka is starting for Arizona. Soroka has four starts posting an ERA of 2.78 with WHIP of 1.06. The righty has an elite 30.1% K rate with 6.5% walks. Griffin Warner talks betting for Friday. Griffin Warner hosts the latest episode of What I Bet on the Pregame Network and Straight Outta Vegas AM feed, returning after a short break at 5-3-1 over his last nine and ready for a long summer of World Cup soccer and Major League Baseball content, opening with a Friday soccer card that covers Serie A, Ligue 1, and the Bundesliga before running through every game on the MLB slate and delivering the What I Bet best bet. In Serie A, Griffin leans Sassuolo plus one at home against Cesc Fàbregas's Como, a newly promoted side that scores goals and offers real value as a home underdog while Como faces tactical distraction from their Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter midweek, and he leans under three goals in Inter's home match against Cagliari citing possible rotation of Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram for the cup match. In Ligue 1, he waits for Toulouse at plus one and a quarter or better against RC Lens in a game where the visiting side tends to perform above expectations in difficult road environments. In the Bundesliga, St. Pauli host FC Köln in a relegation six-pointer where Griffin expects St. Pauli to control possession and grind out a low-scoring physical game, leaning under two and a quarter to two and a half. On the MLB side he runs every game on the Friday board including Kodai Senga and the Mets at plus 124 against Edward Cabrera and the Cubs, Cleveland minus 135 with Tanner Bibee against Chris Bassitt and the Orioles, Tampa Bay over Pittsburgh in the Rays-Pirates game, Michael Wacha at plus 162 for Kansas City against Cam Schlittler and the Yankees, the Blue Jays-Diamondbacks over nine at plus money with Eric Lauer facing Michael Soroka given bullpen concerns for both clubs, Jacob deGrom against Logan Gilbert in the pitching matchup of the night where he wants a seven to play the under, and José Soriano continuing one of the best starts to a season in the American League while the Angels lean makes sense at a reasonable price against Matt Waldron and the Padres. The official best bet is the Braves at Phillies over nine and a half, with Taijuan Walker finding barrels consistently and Martín Pérez generating soft contact but enough traffic for runs to cross the plate on both sides. They break down how the Canadian roster matches up, what a successful start from Michael Soroka would look like, and James Paxton's impressive return from retirement. The nightmarish home stand continued on Tuesday night in the Nats 10th consecutive defeat. Mark & Al are dumbfounded after the 10-6 loss where Colorado hit five homers in a span of eight hitters in the late innings. Will a major change happen soon in the clubhouse?(16:00) Cole Henry was the main culprit for the Rockies avalanche in the top of the 7th as he allowed four runs without a recording a single out. Jackson Rutledge also struggled in that frame as he ceded back to back homers.(20:05) Michael Soroka lasted six innings, but did issue three "hit by pitch". Soroka gave up a pair of homers and has given up ten in just nine starts this season.(24:00) The offense totaled six runs, but most of that came later after already trailing 10-1. Brady House had a pair of hits and his first career RBI while Nathaniel Lowe & Luis Garcia Jr. each homered in the final frames.(28:10) When is the last time the home crowd booed the Nationals?(31:00) Josh Whetzel, Voice of the Rochester Red Wings, provides his weekly update from AAA. Hear the latest on Drew Millas, Cade Cavalli, Nasim Nuñez, and more.

The Nats lost their 5th straight on Thursday afternoon to get swept by the first place Mets. Al & Tim gather after the Nationals scored all their runs in the top of the 9th in the 4-3 defeat, but stranded two runners after Keibert Ruiz grounded into the final out.(13:00) New York starter Kodai Senga exited early after getting injured while fielding a play at 1B. After the game he was placed on the 15-day IL due to a hamstring issue. Senga is having an excellent season and is sporting a 1.47 ERA.(16:15) Michael Soroka gave up a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 1st to Jeff McNeil. Soroka only ceded three hits, but two of them went over the fence.(24:30) Wilson Ramos will officially retire as a National on Sunday afternoon. Ramos played in Washington from 2010-2016 and was a big part of multiple division titles.(28:45) The Nats begin a seven game homestand on Friday night against a pair of last place teams. This weekend they host Miami and then the Rockies come to Navy Yard on Monday for a four game series.
The Nats blanked the visiting Rangers 2-0 on Friday night in the quickest game in stadium history. Mark & Al begin with a familiar name as Patrick Corbin returned to D.C. and only allowed a pair of runs in eight innings of work. Corbin needed just 89 pitches and the last time he tossed eight innings was May 4th, 2022 in Colorado.(4:15) The official scorer determined the game length as 1 hour, 50 minutes and Mark feels that it should be one minute shorter. The official start time was 6:45PM and Mark says the final out came at 8:34PM. The official time ties the fastest game in franchise history as opposed to it being the stand-alone record.(14:35) Jacob Young singled in his return to the lineup and Daylen Lile was sent back to AAA to make roster space. Lile hit .194 in 31 at-bats in his brief stint in Washington.(18:20) Michael Soroka ended his outing well unlike previous ones as he struck out seven Rangers in six scoreless innings of work.(22:45) Brad Lord tossed another scoreless inning in a high leverage spot in the top of the 7th. Kyle Finnegan notched his 18th save of the season; which is tied for the 2nd most in all of MLB.(25:40) An update on Josiah Gray, who had surgery last summer. Gray only made two starts season and his last appearance on the mound came on April 4th, 2024.(31:00) Arizona Ace Corbin Burnes will need "Tommy John" surgery after injuring his elbow last weekend vs. the Nats. Burnes is in his first year of a six year/ $210 Million contract.
Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner talk MLB betting for Friday. Best bets as always. Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner preview the MLB Friday slate on RJ Bell's Dream Preview. They open by discussing the Orioles' recent 9-2 stretch despite being 11 games under .500, and Minnesota's past long winning streak. Griffin reflects on Moneyball's low ranking on his movie list and praises Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Cubs. In the Phillies vs. Pirates matchup, Joe Ross starts for Philly as an opener while Bailey Falter, performing solidly for Pittsburgh, starts for the Pirates. Both agree under 9 runs is the best angle due to limited offensive firepower from Pittsburgh and Ross's limited innings. Next, Texas faces Washington with Patrick Corbin vs. Michael Soroka. Corbin has stabilized while Soroka battles recurring injuries. Griffin likes Nationals ML and over 9.5, noting Nationals' young talent and the weather boosting offense. Munaf supports first 5 over and Nationals' team total over, citing Texas' poor 9-20 road record. In Red Sox vs. Yankees, Walker Buehler faces Will Warren. Boston's bats have struggled, while Warren allowed 7 ER in his last outing. Both predict an over 9 outcome, expecting Rafael Devers to homer and citing both teams' bullpen issues. The Diamondbacks visit Cincinnati with Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Nick Lodolo. Rodriguez has allowed 13 ER over his last 3 starts with control issues. Lodolo's 4-4 record and 3.10 ERA give Griffin confidence in the Reds. Munaf favors Reds ML and sees plenty of scoring. Astros travel to Cleveland with Colton Gordon vs. Logan Allen. Allen's lefty matchup gives the right-handed Astros lineup an edge, but Munaf remains cautious due to Houston's late travel. Griffin would take Astros at plus money, considering Cleveland's competitiveness. Kansas City faces the White Sox with Seth Lugo vs. Davis Martin. Lugo has dominated the White Sox historically, allowing just 3 ER over 29.1 IP. Munaf strongly supports Royals RL, citing Lugo's recent success against Chicago, while Griffin leans over 8. The Padres visit Milwaukee with Randy Vasquez vs. Chad Patrick. Vasquez's control issues and HR susceptibility concern both hosts. Griffin makes Brewers ML -142 his best bet, citing Milwaukee's base-stealing prowess and San Diego's fatigue after extra-inning games. Munaf adds Brewers first 5 team total over. Dodgers face Cardinals with Justin Robleski vs. Sonny Gray. Injuries to Betts and Freeman concern both. Griffin trusts Gray as a home underdog, noting St. Louis' bullpen depth. Munaf supports Over 8.5, expecting offensive production from both sides. The Mets visit Colorado with Kodai Senga vs. Antonio Senzatela. Senzatela enters 1-10 with a 7.14 ERA and 1.98 WHIP. Munaf makes Mets team total Over 6.5 his best bet, expecting New York's offense to dominate at Coors Field. Griffin acknowledges Rockies' rare 3-game win streak but avoids backing them. Seattle travels to Anaheim with Bryce Miller facing Kyle Hendricks. Miller's bone spur has altered his delivery, making Griffin favor the Angels ML, citing their hot bats and rest advantage. Munaf agrees, backing the Angels and runs scored. In San Francisco, Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach faces Giants' Hayden Birdsong. Schwellenbach has 22 Ks in his last two starts, but Griffin trusts Birdsong and Giants' bullpen, backing the under 7.5 and Giants ML. Munaf echoes this, emphasizing both pitchers' strong form. They close with Griffin taking Brewers ML as his best bet and Munaf locking in Mets team total Over 6.5. They promote pregame.com with a STRIKE20 discount code for picks packages. The Nats dropped Thursday's rubber match 7-1 to the visiting Cubs as Ian Happ knocked in four runs. Al & Mark sort through the sloppy affair, another example of poor defense & base running in defeat.(04:30) James Wood has a hard luck 0 for 4 evening despite every ball he hit having an exit velocity over 97 MPH.(09:20) Why is Davey Martinez not bothered by base running miscues?(12:45) Jake Irvin allowed three runs in five innings of work. Irvin immediately gave up a 2-run homer to Pete Crow-Armstrong; emblematic that he too has 1st inning struggles like some of his teammates.(17:35) Jackson Rutledge gave up a 2-run Happ HR in the top of the 6th and his season has gone sideways a bit recently.(25:00) A familiar face will take the mound on Friday night when Patrick Corbin gets the start for Texas vs. Michael Soroka. Corbin is pitching better for the Rangers than he did last year in Washington, but the hosts explain why a regression to the mean might be around the corner for the veteran lefty.
The Nats won their fourth straight on Saturday night by defeating Arizona 11-7. Mark (From Phoenix) & Al marvel over the team's 10-run opening inning that set a tone for the entire evening. No homers were hit and the first 11 batters safely reached base.(9:40) James Wood's biggest impact came defensively as he nailed a runner out at the plate to stymie a Dbacks rally in the bottom of the 8th.(11:30) Are the Nationals a good offensive team?(15:45) Jackson Rutledge really struggled as the first pitcher to relieve Michael Soroka. Rutledge gave up three runs in the bottom of the 6th that cut the lead to four runs.(19:00) Jorge Lopez was DFA'd prior to the game and is the third veteran reliever that was signed in the off-season to have already been let go. Davey Martinez said before the game that Washington "was not the right fit" for Lopez.(28:05) A shoutout that leads to an extended conversation about the future contractual situations of young stars like James Wood.
The Nats fell 3-2 on Sunday afternoon to the visiting Giants. Al begins with the sluggish offensive performance, that was punctuated by the curious decision to pinch-hit Josh Bell for Amed Rosario in the bottom of the 9th. James Wood had a RBI double, but the bats only collected five hits in total.(07:30) Alex Call and Robert Hassell III each had disappointing outfield defense in the pivotal top of the 3rd. Most notably, Call lost a fly ball in the sun at the wall that turned into a Sam Huff homer instead of an out.(12:15) Michael Soroka had a solid outing, but still was tagged with the loss. His six innings of work is the most he has pitched in five starts this season.(15:00) Al answers a listener email. Feel free to send your thoughts to natschatpodcast@gmail.com.
The Nats continued to hammer Orioles pitching in their 10-4 win on Sunday afternoon. Mark (From Camden Yards) & Al discuss the Nationals first series sweep since mid July last season. Washington also dominated the Battle of the Beltways this year by winning five of the six meetings.(03:30) The offense combined for five homers on Sunday and the team now has 50 home runs in 48 games this season. CJ Abrams went deep in both the 1st & 2nd innings to lift his OPS this season to an impressive .942.(08:00) The other homers came from Dylan Crews, Luis Garcia Jr., and Josh Bell. The team's increase in power this season leads to the hosts evaluating the hitting coach Darnell Coles, who is in the 4th season with the organization.(14:05) Michael Soroka earned the win after 5.2 IP and allowing three runs in the process. It is Soroka's first recorded victory since July 21st, 2023 while pitching for the Braves.(19:10) Brad Lord only lasted an inning in relief of Soroka despite inheriting a big lead. Al points out that not only is Lord a reliever instead of a starter right now, he isn't being utilized that often for long relief.(26:15) Washington has a well deserved day off on Monday before opening a three game series in Navy Yard vs. the Braves on Tuesday. Thursday is a pitching matchup worth circling as Chris Sale takes on fellow lefty MacKenzie Gore.
The Nats lost 5-2 in Atlanta on Tuesday night for their 7th consecutive defeat. Al & Tim run through the rotten state of affairs and wonder if any big changes are on the horizon as Washington is now nine games below .500 (17-26) through 43 games.(09:30) CJ Abrams homered on the first pitch of the game, his 5th of the season, and his OPS is up to .880.(10:45) Dylan Crews struck out to end the game on a questionable call. Crews' struggles at the plate are continuing as his batting average currently sits at .181.(17:30) Michael Soroka only lasted four innings on 81 pitches. Brad Lord relieved him and didn't do well as he allowed the Braves to take the lead for good, but also did not get much help from the defense behind him.(22:05) Cole Henry tossed a scoreless inning and has not given up a run in the month of May. Henry only has one bad outing this season, when he gave up 5 runs in the series finale vs. the Mets in late April.(28:00) Pete Rose was removed from MLB's Permanently Ineligible list by Commissioner Rob Manfred and this could lead to him eventually getting into Cooperstown.(34:00) The weekly AAA report from Josh Whetzel, the voice of the Rochester Red Wings.
The Nats rallied in the top of the 9th, but couldn't make it to extras in Monday night's 4-3 loss in Atlanta. Mark & Al dig into the decision to not use Kyle Finnegan in the bottom of the 9th, where it was tied 3-3. Jackson Rutledge initially stayed in the game, but then was relieved by Andrew Chafin as opposed to Finnegan. The All-Star closer has not pitched since Game 1 of last Tuesday's doubleheader.(15:30) Jake Irvin gave up three runs off of seven hits in six innings of work. Al points out the troubling trend regarding Irvin's strikeouts, as he only had one on Monday night.(20:35) James Wood chopped his 1th homer of the season, but it was another quiet day at the plate for his teammates. Washington went 0 for 7 with RISP and struggled against Braves starter Grant Holmes.(27:10) The six game losing streak is now the longest in MLB and it seems that they are playing form behind every game. Michael Soroka takes the mound against his original team on Tuesday night.
