We've got a special guest host for this week's episode: Jonny Craig, husband to Kayla, who was out sick during our time of recording (real life, right?). You're invited to pray with us about self-doubt, which so many parents experience. Let's ask the God of tender compassion for help in being gentle with ourselves and our children. Kayla has a new book coming this September! Every Season Sacred is an invitation to ask big questions, embrace faithful rhythms, and experience God's mysterious, loving presence together. You don't have to have all the answers—and if we're honest, many answers aren't ours to have. This is the beauty of faith. To learn more and preorder your copy, visit kaylacraig.com/newbook. Walter Brueggemann is the premier Old Testament scholar of the last 50 years in the United States. If you haven't heard of him, use Google, then YouTube... and eventually come back here to listen to the conversation my associate pastor, Jonny Craig, and I had with him a mere five years ago.His words are prescient and more applicable today than they were then! This will be the only time I've ever shared this conversation since we first released it in 2017.Are you ready to be challenged, and maybe even get mad? Are you ready to listen to what Brueggemann terms "the call of the pastor", and "our job"? This is a really, really helpful conversation. The book he references is the one he had just finished, Money and Possessions in the Bible.Enjoy!Support the showFor more great content and conversations for pastors, check out the over 400 episodes of the 200churches Podcast!

Jonny Craig and I recorded with Ken Shigematsu, the author of God In My Everything - How An Ancient Rhythm Helps Busy People Enjoy God. As pastors, we are often harried and busy, and serving out of our scarcity of time and energy and passion.Ken talks with us about time he has spent in monasteries, learning from the monks the ancient rhythms of life, and how he has established his own "rule of life" that guides him in his pursuit of spiritual intimacy and growth with God. Ken is a contemplative, reflective pastor, and he has some wonderful inspiration for us in this conversation. Enjoy! Kurt Travis' time in Dance Gavin Dance is profoundly unique amidst the folklore and history of a band that is already described as profoundly unique. Travis joined the band in 2007 after the removal of Jonny Craig. His time in the band between then and 2010 was a period which saw Dance Gavin Dance at its most unstable, but also its most experimental. The band released two records with Travis at the helm, 2008s Self-Titled (also known as Death Star) and 2009s Happiness. The two records were released within a year of each other but were starkly different. Greetings, Congregation! This week doesn't need much introduction. After a few years of trying, Jonny Craig comes on the show! Jonny is known for his incredible vocal talent that he lent to bands like Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa, Slaves, Isles & Glaciers, and an extensive solo career. Jonny is probably equally well-known for his public episodes of addiction. I wanted to hear from the man himself what it was like for him all those years, and how he has gotten to the place he is at today: sober.

Downtown Battle Mountain is an expertly crafted vision of chaos and beauty. The R&B-influenced cleans of vocalist Jonny Craig both soar and soothe while screaming vocalist Jon Mess starkly contrasts his namesake and counterpart with a screaming style that is dwarfed by the absurdity of his lyricism. Despite present day success, the band failed to capitalise on the following they were building as vocalist Jonny Craig was kicked out before this version of the band could truly bloom. In 2010, Craig would return to the band to record and release Downtown Battle Mountain II. DBM2 would ultimately showcase the more laid-back side of Jonny Craig, along with the more experimental Dance Gavin Dance that had emerged on their previous record, Happiness. DBM2 would feature rap verses from guitarist Will Swan and complete departures from genre in songs like Blue Dream. 200churches Podcast: Ministry Encouragement for Pastors of Small Churches
Jeff and Jonny return LIVE for the first time in 8 months! We catch up on Jonny's digital ministry, talk Carey Neiuwhof's future series, small church resources 9 years ago and today, and also talk about Jonny's wife Kayla, and how she published her first book - To Light Their Way - Prayers and Liturgies for Parents. This was a fun breaking back into podcasting episode for us!
Emarosa from Lexington, Kentucky released their debut full length 'Relativity' in 2008. A masterstroke of post-hardcore and a complete departure from their early Metalcore sound, the record is the band at it's peak. Powerful and intricate guitars, pounding drums, and ambient keys paired with the beautiful high vocals of infamous ex-Dance Gavin Dance frontman, Jonny Craig. Emarosa's “scene” period, their most important period of influence is long in the rearview and though sandwiched by two distinctly different versions of the band, the potential and talent the band showcased on Relativity and Self-Titled cannot be taken for granted. Sadly, like many projects Jonny Craig has been involved in, success was not sustainable. We're going to keep this short and sweet. If you've heard of (or should I say about) Jonny Craig, then simply forget what you've heard, read, or seen—you know like the Men In Black memory eraser thing, use that. If you have no idea who or what I am talking about, then perfect that is exactly what I want to hear. If you would also please refrain from using google and typing this gentleman's name into the search bar, that would also be greatly appreciated. Just simply hit up your favorite streaming service, type in the album's name (which is ungodly long), and start listening. Wow, you're done already? Awesome, now listen again. Man, twice in one hour? You're a champ, and third times a charm—just kidding, kind of. Really though, you can stop now. Now, feel free to google away. Most of what you're going to read is true (and unfortunate), I just didn't want it to take away from your listening experience. So what happens when you take a talented singer/songwriter from Canada, mix in a pretty severe drug habit, and an ego the size of Mt. Everest? Well, you get Jonny Craig. You might have also read that he has been kicked out of a handful of bands (some of which he was the founding member), this is also true. But in my honest opinion, his solo work far outweighs the stuff he did with those bands—but per usual, I am just the intern (unpaid) and I really have no clue what I am talking about. When all is said and done, we all have our own opinions of Jonny, especially those of us that have met him in person. But at the end of the day, there is a reason why so many of us keep coming back to this album. What's the reason you ask? Hey, how about you listen and find out. It's season 4, episode 13 of Jonny's future ex-bandmate's favorite music podcast. LET'S GO!!! Keep up with all of the music we talk about in each episode by listening to the Infectious Groove Podcast Companion Songs playlist, exclusively on Spotify. We hope you enjoy! Also on the episode, we discuss new and classic records from artists like Hawthorne Heights, Hot Milk, Jonny Craig, Sincere Engineer, Mark Knopfler, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and John Frusciante. #Thrice #HawthorneHeights #HotMilk #JonnyCraig #SincereEngineer #MarkKnopfler #RedHotChiliPeppers #JohnFrusciante Find us on social media: https://discord.gg/2jv87Wypvw https://www.twitter.com/TheSkinnyPod theskinnywithmikeandadam@gmail.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theskinnywithmikeandadam/support
Originally inspired by various mathcore and swancore acts from the 2010s, Galleons have built upon their sound over the last 5 years by introducing many elements found in more contemporary genres such as pop, trap, hip hop, and low-fi, while also infusing songs with hints of jazz, soul and blues music, most notably heard in their 2020 album, Metropolis. Their frontman Tom Byrne’s powerful vocal style, reminiscent of Jonny Craig’s, provides a perfect match for the band’s heavy, groovy, and intricate instrumentation. Tom is also the vocalist for the project Valiant Hearts. Thank you for listening! Isles & Glaciers- The Hearts of Lonely People was released March 9, 2010. This album is amazing because it was a collaboration by some of the most talented musicians of the early 2000's emo music scene. It is unique because it is fronted by three of the scene's most iconic frontmen: Craig Owens, Jonny Craig, and Vic Fuentes. Looking back at this album, ten years later, I can honestly say "records aren't made like they used to be." Drew Roulette, artist and bassist of Dredg, created this iconic album cover. If you are a first time listener this is a great one to start with! Chris was an amazing and hilarious dude. We talked about what it was like touring with the DGD lads, writing for Jonny Craig, and working in the studio with DGD's favorite producer Kris Crummett. Chris tells us about the late 00's and early 10's high note arms race, his approach to writing music, explains the relationship between bands and the people on the production side of an album, and.... Oh yeah! They are working on a NEW ALBUM. If you haven't listened to Closure in Moscow yet I guarantee you will love them. First Temple is one of Rob's favorite Albums and Pink Lemonade is one of Shane's all time favorites @ us and let us know your favorite. Sobriety is the theme of this week's podcast. It can be difficult to avoid the "drugs" part of "sex, drugs, and rock and roll," and I wanted to chat with someone who has watched someone in this scene escape the drugs and fight for their sobriety and their life. Eric Flores manages merchandise for the band Slaves, who is fronted by Jonny Craig, one of the most talented vocalists of our time, in my opinion, and Jonny has a past riddled with demons and stories. Over the past few years, Jonny has made an incredible change in his life, and his crew has been there along the ride with him, through the good, the bad, and the in between. Here's a little insight into getting sober on tour. Hope this helps someone out there. Where To Start Podcasting – PTC 046 I recently had lunch with the guys from the “200churches” podcast. Jeff Keady and Jonny Craig are pastors at a 200church in Northwest, Iowa. They want to encourage and support other pastors of “smaller” churches. As we were having lunch, Jeff was telling me about their start in podcasting. They had all of the equipment and were ready to roll. As they were about to record their very first episode, Jeff said he didn't know where to start. What was the first thing he was supposed to say? Where to begin is a natural problem. You know what you want to say. You simply don't know where to start it all. How far back to the beginning of your message should you go? You have all the equipment. You have set up the technical details of the podcast. How does the show content begin? Whether you are a brand new podcaster, or someone with hundreds of episodes under your belt, this episode will help you with your content. If you are just beginning, this will help you create your framework. We will walk through content preparation as you lay out the show. If you are an “old pro”, this content will be a great refresher to help you step back and evaluate your progress. When we have done something for a long time, assumptions begin to creep into the content. We sometimes take small details for granted as if our listener has been with the show from the beginning. There are six steps to defining your content and preparing your podcast. 1. What do you hope to accomplish? This includes both the topic and the show overall. Set a goal for each topic, the episode and your podcast in general. 2. What are the interesting topics you hope to address on this particular episode? As you determine your topics, look for a theme to develop. 3. How will you treat each specific topic you hope to address? What will you do with the content? You could answer the question, demonstrate the answer, play some audio, show charts to support your answer, or use some other treatment. Find a way to make it your own. Your approach should be unique to you. 4. Create an outline for the flow of the show topics. This is important for the show introduction. Bullet points should suffice. Do not script the show content. 5. What supporting information will you need for the show? Organize and highlight for easy access during the show. This will help you sound prepared as you begin to build credibility with your audience. 6. Write your introduction. Write your conclusion. Include your call to action.
