Ross sits down with Jess Joyce, SEO consultant at Inbound Scope, to talk about why the term "blog" is outdated—and how systems thinking, revenue-led SEO, and diagram-driven storytelling are creating smarter strategies for SaaS brands.Jess unpacks her visual-first approach to social content, explains the shortcomings of traditional keyword research, and breaks down how AI tools like Gong and Granola are unlocking insight directly from sales calls. They also explore the growing irrelevance of traffic as a core metric and why internal linking, customer pain points, and first-link architecture matter more than ever.Plus: why technical SEO isn't dead, how to build smarter weekly systems with your team, and a hopeful rant about killing the word “blog” once and for all.Show Notes00:00 – Intro: Why Jess's Diagrams Stand Out01:00 – Visualizing Content for Clients (And Prospects)03:30 – Why Revenue-Led SEO > Traffic-Led Metrics06:00 – What Google & AI Are Doing to Top-of-Funnel09:00 – Segmenting Content by Intent, Not Format12:00 – Sales Conversations as the New Keyword Research15:00 – Using Granola and Gong to Extract Real Pain Points17:00 – Are Keywords Dying in a Zero-Click World?20:00 – Technical SEO Still Matters (Despite the Hype)24:00 – First Links, Internal Linking & Breadcrumbs27:00 – Systems Thinking: Weekly Sprints & Triangulated Ops30:00 – Why "Blog" Is the Wrong Word for Modern Content33:00 – Enterprise Content Silos & the WordPress Problem34:30 – Where to Follow Jess & Final ThoughtsShow LinksJess's Work: https://jessjoyce.com/Inbound Scope: https://inboundscope.com/Granola AI: https://www.granola.ai/Gong.io: https://www.gong.io/Ross's Studio Recording: https://riverside.fm/dashboard/studios/ross-hudgenss-studio/recordings/29fbaa7c-9c87-41a0-82b0-e46416b9401d?share-token=ad8195daf09f9375064a&content-shared=recordingJess on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jessjoyce_heres-how-i-would-create-an-roi-generating-activity-7295472607041138690-v4L0?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAOzg8UB65a5t0zuiVlWCkdHaLrjxPPAwS8 Subscribe today for weekly tips: https://bit.ly/3dBM61f Listen on iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/content-and-conversation-seo-tips-from-siege-media/id1289467174 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1kiaFGXO5UcT2qXVRuXjsM Listen on Google: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5zaW1wbGVjYXN0LmNvbS9jT3NjUkdLeA Follow Siege on Twitter: http://twitter.com/siegemedia Follow Ross on Twitter: http://twitter.com/rosshudgens Directed by Cara Brown: https://twitter.com/cararbrown Email Ross: ross@siegemedia.com #seo | #contentmarketing

In this episode of Monique on the Mic, we explore the surprising benefits of recording your singing. Join me, Monique B. Thomas, as I share how self-recording can bridge the gap between perception and reality in your vocal technique. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced singer, recording allows for immediate feedback and insight into areas needing improvement. Learn from my experiences with artists like Damien, who transitioned from songwriter to singer through diligent practice and recording. Plus, I'll cover essential tips for setting up a home studio and using DAWs like GarageBand and Audacity. Don't miss this chance to elevate your vocal game!RESOURCES:Low cost studio set up : The idea is just to get started. This will not give you studio quality, but it will allow you to get used to recording your voice quickly. Don't forget to use garage band (Mac) or Audacity (pc). There are other DAW's as well. 1 Shure SM58 mic - roughly 110€xlr cable - roughly 20€Scarlett Focusrite solo Audio Interface - This connects your mic to your computer - roughly 90€ - 120€headphone, you can use any pair you have that plugs in via mini jack or get a better one for around 100€.If need be, you can use a cheaper mic. Just keep in mind the idea is to get used to recording quickly. Obviously, the better the equipment the better you will sound. The cheapest version and also the lowest quality will be using your phone. Don't over think this. Start where you are and buy better equipment little by little and on a need basis, unless money is not an issue. For a more upscale home studio version or just different options , you'll find plenty of videos on Youtube. Just type, "Home Studio setup". I hope this is helpful. It's a brave thing to share the outtakes from a tracking session. All the blemishes are right there. But Martine Powers and Rennie Svirnovsky from the audio team at The Washington Post have graciously done just that. They invited Sound School's Rob Rosenthal into their studio to witness Martine at work voicing an episode of The Empty Grave of Comrade Bishop, with assistance from Rennie. Hearing how they work as tracking partners is a real gift for anyone who wants to perform better in the mic booth.Today on Sound Judgment, we're excited to share this instructive, hilarious episode of Sound School. If you've spent much time behind a mic yourself, you know that tracking an episode – that is, narrating it – takes time, coaching, practice, a good ear, humility, a good sense of humor— and a great producer.*Update! Frank Salazar is the creative mind and talent behind a project called Spigots. He is a long-time friend and former bandmate from my days in Dallas-Fort Worth. The friendship is still going strong, despite my many relocations. He's been playing guitar for at least as long as I've been playing drums (forever). Frank has worked as a full-time gigging musician, studio engineer, and sound designer. His current gig is as a technology manager for Reel FX Animation Studios, which has created animation for every major studio plus originals. Frank's son Ian Salazar was the featured guest in episode 77 of this podcast. Frank has a new single out called "Save Yourself," which he records under the moniker of Spigots (spelled with an exclamation point). He is working his way up to a full-length album, release date TBD. In this conversation, we talk about his forthcoming concept album, the evolution of Frank's creativity, his problem with not being a singer, his studio recording hardware and software toolkit, and why he still makes music. Find the music of Spigots on Bandcamp at spigots.bandcamp.com. If you need more Frank, you can also find him on Instagram @EdmundBurgundy. Please enjoy my conversation with Frank Salazar. One of the tools every great musician should have in their toolkit is knowledge and experience of studio production. If you use a professional engineer in your projects, you'll be able to understand the process and communicate better. Often, you may be doing a DIY recording project, and want to get the best final product that you can. This is a huge topic, and this episode is limited to just a few basics: choosing the right microphone, microphone placement, minimal gear requirements, planning a production session (even when it's just you involved), and a few finishing touches. Our guest, Liz May, is a professional audio engineer with a pianist background, is very active as a live sound engineer and also owns a recording studio called Soundlizzard Productions. Welcome to Roadcase!! We're simply delighted to have Jesse Harris on the show for this week's episode. Jesse is the famed songwriter responsible for the global sensation "Don't Know Why," sung by Nora Jones, which won multiple Grammys back in 2003. Jesse is a prolific songwriter and composer, and his most recent album, Silver Balloon, which he wrote with his songwriting partner of over 30 years, Kenny Wolleson, is undeniably one of the best works of his storied career. But despite his early songwriting mega-success, Jesse is a tireless and methodical worker who lives by the motto "the only ritual I have is the act of working on something." His winning attitude, rooted in daily life-affirming habits and the belief that one can successfully battle the negative voices in one's head that scream "you cannot do that," by positive action and shouting back "Yes, I Can!!" This chat with Jesse is equal parts informative and enlightening. So climb aboard the Roadcase bus for this special interview with songwriter and producer Jesse Harris. It's gonna be a great ride!! We've all watched TV before - it's become one of life's simple pleasures and laziest pastimes. And whether you're sitting down to watch the newest episode of your favorite show, or tuning into the most recent breaking news, you've probably wondered what it's like behind the scenes. Well they may not be 100% accurate, but 30 Rock and Great News are both here to give you a little comedic glimpse into the lives of the writers and producers of TV. Great News (02:52) - Behind every great news network, is a great news anchor. And behind every great news anchor, is a great news producer. And then behind that news producer, is her mom who came out of retirement to work as a news intern. Not only does Katie have to deal with an eccentric, egotist news anchor and a somewhat terse and unforgiving boss, now she has to deal with her mom working by her side every day. 30 Rock (30:44) - It's your favorite day of the week and you've gotten all excited to watch your favorite live comedy sketch show - The Girlie Show! But when it comes to live sketch comedy, there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than you may think. With a new network exec to impress, and a new unhinged co-star on her show, head writer, Liz Lemon, has a lot on her plate. But she's not one to back down from a challenge. Amy and Jay Fisher discuss the restoration and operation of a 1950s-1960s high fidelity analog recording studio. Corrections are presented about previous discussion of LED light firing circuits in the audio studio. Listener input is encouraged. Curious and humorous voice sounds, inflection, timbre, and habits are discussed, and the role of voice in podcasting and studio recording. The importance of voice projection and affectations are revealed as well as the sound of one's own voice in public speaking, recording, and renditions. Topics include microphone frequency and tone as well as the psychological effect of voice, particularly in analog recordings. Related subjects are sound effects on podcast shows, up-talkers, down-talkers, growlers, questioning tones, uncertainty in voice, he-reads-she-reads narratives, great art in narration and readers, voice nuance and control in audio books. We discuss intimacy and the personal nature of podcasting via close-contact ear buds, headphones and in vehicles. There is limited understanding in text messaging, and an inherent inability to communicate emotions. Related topics are telephone banks and walls, and Library of Congress submissions. Studio updates include wiring and patch cables, adapters for equipment, patch bays in studio and control rooms, amplifier rack mounting and interference with high fidelity high frequency response. The link to the photos of the studio, history, and rebuild is on the Fisher Audio Science web page at jayfisher.com.Published in October, Jay shares a spooky and disturbing story of strange screams in the forest of New Mexico.Engineered by Amy Fisher

Our third episode is an eclectic mix of everything that makes Eurovision that joyful cocktail we love so much. There's a Finnish diva in a tablecloth, a short Turkish man bursting out of a golden cocoon, and a group of Moldovan men with the most memorable leg action in the history of the contest. Although this episode has no specific theme Andy and Ryan agree that most of these songs sound better as recorded tracks than they did live. Also, many of them, with the obvious exception of the one that came second in the final, didn't fare as well in the contest as they should have done including Tik-Tok famous Getter Jaani and UK darlings Bardo who very nearly topped the UK charts back in '82. Also, let it be known that Keiino superfan Ryan has waited until episode 3 before playing any music by his favourite group. Such admirable restraint! The pandemic made a huge impact on different business industries. Some had bad outcomes, but some had good ones. For our guest today, it made it more popular than ever. The pandemic helped boost Kevin Williams' business, Sessionwire.com. Our guest was introduced to music because his associates, friends, and other musicians are playing in bands. This led Kevin around studios more often, making him evolve more in the music industry. Eventually, he and his partner had the vision to start a platform that enables people to record and work on anything virtually in a recording studio. This platform is Sessionwire. Listen and find out more about Sessionwire and how Kevin manages the ever-changing demand from technology and music!
