After the storm, getting the generator going early and setting up the hand pump for the well made all the difference. A quick project with leftover well pump wire turned into a solid clothesline—an unexpected but handy addition that Carla LOVED. Through it all, AT&T held strong, and Starlink was exceptional. If you're interested, see below for a link featuring a free month for both you and me. It felt like living a real-life episode of "Prep Comms." The ZBM2 Industries antennas are outta sight—thanks, Deric! While the local 2m repeater was down, it didn't hold us back; we had the gear ready, so radio wasn't top of my mind. That's one big lesson: when you've prepared well, the need for comms isn't a distraction, freeing you to focus on other tasks. The WLN KDC1 handheld radios continue to be incredibly reliable and cost-effective, with GMRS as our go-to system for family comms. It's a perfect service that doesn't require any testing, making it ideal for family use. Though I used my ham radios sparingly, they came in handy for checking in on 40m HF (JS8Call) and daily Winlink check-ins over VHF Packet. Just North of us the Mt. Mitchell Ham Repeater was a true lifeline, saving lives daily. Be sure to watch KM4ACK Jason's video, linked below, about the welfare nets on this repeater. Locally, our phones worked well, so ham radio took a backseat for us, though just 45 minutes away, it was a crucial lifesaver. Brother-to-brother comms on CB were also reliable, showing that there's a role for every communication method. And while I stayed busy with work, the family stepped up; we learned countless lessons that we'll carry forward. Although some coax-internet is still down, Verizon failed most while ham radio absolutely shined across North Carolina. The BTech 6x2Pro proved essential for both farm and fire department communications. This experience underscored the value of preparedness and inspired us to add an ECOFLOW 2700W solar generator to back up our primary generator. No matter where you're starting from, take that first step toward readiness. Don't be discouraged—I'm here to help! That Simple Pump from Scott Hunt (Practical Preppers) was a true lifesaver, keeping water flowing through it all. Men, husbands, dads—let's get you started! Plan C Solutions and The Family Radio Guy are coming soon to help you and your family prepare for the upcoming unknown. Pat Schlapper is a Bassmaster Elite Series Pro hailing from the land of Wisconsin. If you didn't know him prior to the Elite Series, you're probably not from the Midwest, because I don't know if there's a human being who's had more dominance at the local/regional level (amassing an estimated 100-150 WINs) over his career. Pat Schlapper is one of few anglers to double qualify for the Bassmaster Elite Series. In 2020, he punched his ticket through Bass Nation with a championship win on Pickwick, and the Bassmaster Opens in the same season (the state of WI cried tears of joy when this happened). Now going on his 4th season on the Bassmaster Elite Series, Pat Schlapper is poised for success, and is knocking on the door of Elite Series stardom. For this episode, we have two key members of the Waseca Bass Mafia. In fact, we happen to have the old bull AND the young calf. Honored to have Sergeant Big Fish Tim Schroeder (Godfather of WB Mob), a wizard/master of the Jigworm, and Century Belt holder on Lake Minnetonka, who brings an intergalactic amount of tournament success. Tim has a unique story; being in law enforcement for 26 years, being a powerful force on the bass tournament trail, being a mentor and high school fishing coach are just a few highlights. One of his apprentices joins us as well, who just won a Classic Bass Champions tour event this past season on the Alexandria Chain (at only 19 years old), beating his high school fishing coach and mentor (Tim Schroeder took 2nd that event). If you don't know by now, I'm talking about the young Walker Krampitz (SkyWalker), who has proven his abilities as an angler against the best in the Midwest. Walker is a dangerous member & the heir of the Waseca Bass Mafia. Thanks for making the trip out gentlemen. (And thank you for the new sign!) 'Twas a reeel nice time. We've got the legend himself, Juicy Jay Carlson, who's got more tournament experience and success than the rest of us combined. Jay has won more boats than most would buy over their lifetime, and he never holds back the goods. Along with Juicy J, we've got the owner and founder himself, Ross Kellermeier, who's turned dreams into reality over the past year with his new bass fishing wonderland: Waypoint Angler Supply, the new Mecca for bass fishing addicts like you and me. The Pal's X Graham Scott Fleming Episode 222 While beginning to craft his unique sound in the country genre, Graham found an incredible career in Broadway, landing the lead role of Charlie in “Kinky Boots,” and working directly with Cindy Lauper. He soon moved to NYC to fully emerge himself in his broadway career, which led to an international tour with “Hair” and performing at the Tony Awards. Growing up in Elmvale, ON, Graham would have no idea when he won a local singing contest in high school that music and performance would become such an internal part of his life. Following his Broadway run, Graham returned home in 2020 and continued to pursue a solo career in the genre that raised him. After earning a Top 40 single at country radio as an independent artist with the release of “Better Man,” he signed a record deal with Open Road Recordings and RGK Entertainment in 2022. Newfoundland's Jason Benoit is gearing up to release his EP ‘Time Traveller Side B' in early 2023 building off the success of the critically acclaimed ‘Time Traveller Side A' which has achieved almost two million global streams to date. Jason, who co-wrote and co-produced the lead single ‘Time Traveller', which was released on October 7th, reflects on the journey that brought him to telling this story. Jason goes on to say, “I've always been a sucker for a song that has a double meaning and I thought it would be a challenge to write a song called "Time Traveller" because Sci-fi and country music rarely fit together. So, me and my good buddy Gerry Foote took on that challenge head on and sat down with a couple beers on a sunny summer afternoon and wrote it and we are really proud of what we created.” Running with the momentum of a year full of shows including Canadian Music Week in Toronto, CCMA Songwriters Unplugged, supporting Tenille Townes and numerous festivals across the country ‘Time Traveller' has already landed on editorial playlists on major digital streaming platforms including Spotify's New Music Friday Country and Live Country and Amazon Music's Just North of Nashville, Brand New Music, Fresh Country and more. Benoit's previous single, ‘Shootin' Me Down' is currently #48 on the Billboard Canada Country Chart. Recently nominated for 5 MusicNL Awards, including Indigenous Artist of the Year, Country Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Solo Artist of the Year and Fan's Choice Entertainer of the Year, Jason Benoit appreciates the support that he gets from his home province.

Parade of Homes - HBACNM's Twice-a-year event for builders (Transcript Snippet): "Tego: Okay. Tego: Let's see. Parade of homes, Tracy, Tego: Big weekend for the home builders twice a year, the New Mexico, central New Mexico home. What is it? Home builders association, HBA is just what I always call them. They do their big parade of homes where they, they put homes out for open they're open houses to show off the, the latest products and what the builders are. Tracy: Yep. And it's Friday, Saturday, Sunday. So yesterday, today, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and next Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 11 to 5. There's 21 homes in the spring parade of homes. The the featured builder this year is Pulte homes at inspiration, which is in the petroglyph area. Just North of I-40 and West West of the river inspiration, the homes, the lots, there can be just some phenomenal views because it's sort of below the petroglyphs. And if you haven't been out that way and you're thinking of new construction, give us a call. We'd love to show you that neighborhood as well as the others that are available, but that neighborhood is quick to everywhere. There's some new cluster schools over there. There's some new, big fields. Like if your kids play soccer, you probably know that part of town. But it's, it's a great neighborhood, but in addition, lots of other homes to tour to go, do you happen to know how people are touring them in the days of COVID? Tego: Well, I don't, Tracy: I was thinking I didn't find that out either because Eddie said that we'll tell you how to get inside of them. There's the safety protocol. So the homes vary right from Corales to the West side I'm sure there's a map. So if you go to just Google homes of enchantment, but it's the websites, homes of enchantment parade.com and it's Home Builders Association of Central New Mexico. And it's all the information is right there, but you can tour if you're thinking of building anytime in the future or remodeling, this is the way to go, right? Go hit up these homes. https://welcomehomeabq.com Tracy & Tego Venturi Venturi Realty Group Keller Williams 1119 Alameda Blvd NW Albuquerque, NM 87114 (505) 448-8888 info@welcomehomeabq.com

You're going to want to watch this episode on YouTube, because you can see our brand new studio! In addition to our joy of having a studio space to call home, here's what we talked about this week:We each enjoyed the first fruits of fall - which is almost here, we guess? - a can of Oktoberfest Beer from Revolution Brewing. Let us know if you think it's too soon for Oktoberfest beer, and what your favorite one is!Bridget rather enjoyed this cheeky ad from Durex encouraging people to cover up for safety! It's great to see finally a little humor at coronavirus' expense! As detailed on last week's episode, Nick's football club (soccer team to Americans), won a trophy and he's ecstatic. Since the club couldn't celebrate with the traditional open top bus parade for the supporters (fans), Arsenal brought the trophy to a few specially chosen people. If you're in Lake Geneva, and love coffee, Bridget recommends you check out Inspired Coffee Shop, which not only serves coffee, but also provides employment opportunities to adults with disabilities. It's Immaterial special with John Campbell in conversation talking about life in music. It's Immaterial were formed by three former members of Yachts - Mancunian John Campbell vocals, Martin Dempsey guitar, and Henry Priestman keyboards - in addition to Paul Barlow, drums. By 1984, the band had been reduced to a duo - Campbell and Jarvis Whitehead, guitar and keyboards, who joined in 1982. On 11 November 1981, around the time of the release of the band’s third single, It's Immaterial recorded the first of four sessions for John Peel at BBC Radio 1. The track listing was "A Gigantic Raft (in the Philippines)", "Imitate The Worm", "White Man's Hut", and "Rake". "A Gigantic Raft" was featured on the soundtrack of Jonathan Demme's 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate. In April 1985, the band recorded their fourth and final John Peel session (track listing: "Rope", "Hang On Sleepy Town", "Space", and "Festival Time"). In the same month, the band's Fish Waltz EP reached number 30 in the UK Indie Chart. Less than a year later the band had a hit single with "Driving Away From Home (Jim's Tune)". ('John Campbell puts his foot down on the pedal – ever so gently – to cruise out along the M62. A Mini-Midwestern road movie transported to Liverpool'. This song was their biggest hit and has since featured widely on television advertisements and on 1980s based compilation albums.[citation needed] Another minor hit followed, "Ed's Funky Diner (Friday Night, Saturday Morning)", with accompanying video, before the release of the band's debut album, Life's Hard and Then You Die, in September 1986. In 1990 they released their second album Song. As before, the music was of a subdued, understated nature, with wry wit in the manner of an indie Pet Shop Boys. The album was a commercial flop, despite receiving positive reviews in the music press. The album was produced by Calum Malcolm, best known for his work with The Blue Nile. In the same year as Song, former It's Immaterial keyboard player, Henry Priestman, had a UK number one album The Christians with the band of the same name. Since 2010 some unreleased songs from the album have appeared on different internet music channels. (Track listing (in order of their appearing): "Just North of Here", "New Moon", "Is it Alright (Between us)", "House for Sale" and "How Can I Tell You") A deluxe edition of their album Life's Hard and Then You Die" was released on 1 July 2016. The double CD issue contains the original album remastered plus bonus tracks of single versions, B sides, remixes and one of the group's John Peel sessions. On 23 September 2016 the group launched the campaign to produce and release their "lost and found" album House For Sale via Pledge Music. The pledge target was reached, although an initial tentative release date of Spring 2017 was later postponed to early 2018.

On a stormy morning we paddle West out of Mountain lake to a steep portage heading south. We encounter some heavy rain and lightening as thunder rolls across the the lakes. We hunker down at a campsite waiting for the storm to subside and then continue on our way to Pine Lake. Just North of Pine Lake we come across a cow moose and her calf. The two are standing at the edge of a lake with a picturesque woodland backdrop. It was great to see our first moose in the BWCAW.
